I was a much better gamer as a kid, I think. Also more persistent, probably because I had no responsibilities other than beating whatever game I was playing I say this because, way back when, I finished a lot of games without getting stuck like Super Ghouls n Ghosts and the old Zelda, Metroid and Castlevania games, but today the gamer I am can't deal with Hollow Knight
I really need a reliable source, all in one place if possible, of upcoming North American otome and visual novel releases. Anyone have anything like that they're currently using?
So I'm at the end of Spring Year 1 and I'm now waiting for Winter to get into Misty Bloom Cave in Rune Factory. I'm pretty sure I'm going to marry Tori. She's so cute!

Hah, I give up on Yomawari. I'm too much of a wuss + I don't like that everything is an instakill + the saves are limited. I'll pass on the extra anxiety, thanks.
10 days til Pokemon, my backlog is clear - just endless Taiko and Monster Hunter to keep me sane until then. Lots in my Switch wishlist i'd love to play, but i'm waiting for inevitable sales.
I'm thinking of playing Wandersong again though... because I liked it a lot.
^ Oohh I kinda want Yowamari but I too am a wuss.
Protect your sanity!!
I'm waffling on whether or not to include a game on my backlog. I got it for free, and I usually leave those off because I have a ton of free games and dunno if I'll ever play them, but this one really intrigues me so maybe I should if I'm gonna be spending a good amount of time with it.
It's called Diary of a Spaceport Janitor. Anyone ever heard of it?
The sheer amount of times I laughed in the first hour (purely out of how absurd everything was) would definitely be worth the price of entry for me... Even though I didn't pay for it, lol. But I would have! Thank you Chrono GG. (Neat site, if you like occasional free games.)
I don't even know if I want to describe it, because I'm personally very glad I knew nothing about it going in. And the "how to play" section in the game tells you right off the bat you can't die and nothing you do it wrong, so. Why not!
All that said I've only played an hour, so... I should probably get a bit farther in before recommending it.
I beat the story for Rune Factory! Now all I have to do to truly be done with it in my eyes is getting married, but I'm not sure who; I'm pretty sure it's Tori, but now that I beat it, Lynette is in the picture. It might be Lynette or Tori; I just need to get to know Lynette.
Tori is adorbs, but I have to give a +1 for Lynette. Something about the 'Heel–Face Turn' trope gets me. I never married either of them (I was a Bianca and Sharon kinda girl), but all the girls in RF1 are ~

Whoever you choose, it's the right choice! >:3
The main problem I have with the RF1 girls is that there aren't any marriage events/requests to get to know them better. Sure, I cured Felicity's illness, I searched for Rosetta's white stone, and I even made the Grimoire Sword for Sharron, but I don't really get to know them.
Edit: So I'm going for Lynette now; her changing dialogue is too great for me to ignore. I also have already met the requirement for her proposal (8FP with everyone), so I just need her at 10LP.
Isn't Rune Factory one of those games where you can save a file in multiple slots? Why not make a back up file and marry Tori in one file and Lynette in the other?
Early impressions after playing 1-2 hours of Atelier Lydie and Suelle...this game is cute. Kind of stupidly cute, really...too ridiculous to take seriously in the type of cuteness I'm seeing. The combat is very easy, the side quests are easy gathering quests (at least at this point) and the story goals are simple, right now. I'm sure more stuff is going to unlock, but as of now, it's very easy to follow. Seems like even if it were to get more complicated, the game would make it clear how to continue. If anyone is interested in trying an Atelier game for the first time, at this point I'd say this one makes it very easy.
I've laughed quite a bit while playing already. Mind you, I'm rolling my eyes as I do it, but even so...
EDIT: Also bought Typoman while it was on 30% off since my sister wanted it. Not sure I'll be adding it to my backlog because I'm not sure if I even want to play it or if it's just a purchase for my sister. If it's short I'll probably play it, but otherwise I'll leave it to her, I suspect.

Because that wasn't possible until RF3; RF1, RF2, and RFF made you save to one file and one file only. If I want to marry a different girl, I have to play the entire storyline again. Then again, Lynette is the only one where you have to beat the story to marry her. Then again again, I'm now at a point where I really like only having one super file and rarely have multiple files of stuff unless there's 1) Significant amount of replay value and/or 2) new game plus like how RF4, 3oT, or Mass Effect Andromeda do it (everything carries over)
Edit: I've married Lynette! I believe I did make the right choice for me; she's so adorable! Now I'm on to Rune Factory 2 until Pokemon comes out.
Man, Rune Factory 2 is super nostalgic for me. From the fun request system and characters to the bad framerate and hilariously bad voice acting. It introduced a lot I wish they'd kept in future games (Rival marriages + Children, playable 2nd generation, the school system) but it hasn't aged well and all the cut content seems to hint there was supposed to be so much more to it. It's still a pretty long game (that you can easily cheese at some points), so here's hoping you'll get a good chunk into it before Pokemon!
Speaking of Pokemon, I'm having a hard time enjoying anything I try to play rn. All I can think of it 'man I really wanna play Pokemon'. It's just 5 more days, but UGH. BLUIE WANTS THE EEVEE ON HER HEAD RIGHT NOW.
In the meantime, Owlboy playthrough #5, because it's keeping my slightly sane.
I gave up on 428 Shibuya Scramble for now. It's incredibly irritating. I'm in that middle of the 13:00 - 14:00 timeblock. I've read this game starts off super slow, but becomes really amazing if you stick it out. For anyone that's finished it, should I keep hanging in there?
In the meantime, for whatever reason, I've picked up Mystic Messenger, another game with another equally irritating gameplay mechanism. I only did so because I have a boatload of iTunes credit that was just sitting in my account, so I basically burned though a lot of it to unlock everything in the game lol. Thanks to that, I'm actually enjoying the game immensely. If I had to sit through 11 real time days of chat rooms and emails and whatnot for 7 different characters, well let's just say I never would have picked it up to begin with. I've completed 5 out of the 7 routes, but that's only because I've been off of work for a few days. I seriously don't recommend playing this game without a) unlocking days in advance, which requires $$$ and b) only when you have large chunks of time to play through a route all at once. Also, I'm glad I picked this up on my iPad and not my phone... I never would have been able to do all that reading on my phone.
So my current backlog still has 428, Red Dead Redemption 2 and Death Mark. I think the next games I actually care about aren't coming until December (Persona Dancing All Night Collection and Smash), so I have quite a bit of time.

On the other hand for me, I don't really have fond memories of RF2; from what I remember when I played it for the first time 8 years ago, it was my least favorite RF game (Tides of Destiny has since replaced it). The characters are definitely an improvement over RF1 probably because of the request system, but the combat isn't as good; Kyle moves so much slower than Raguna. Mining isn't as broken and things to buy at the store are so expensive.
I've narrowed down my choice to Cecilia, Rosalind, and Dorothy. Yue and Julia are a maybe for now. Alicia and Mana don't really do anything for me. I'm going to woo them all and complete their requests to see who is right for me. I originally did marry both Cecilia and Dorothy before, but my memory of their requests and dialogue is gone.
The story goes mostly from 10:00 to...hard to remember with so many branches, but around 20:00, I think. So you're a third of the way through the story if you're around or slightly after 13:00, as far as I can figure.
It's a good story. It starts out pretty silly and light but gets more and more serious the further in you go. But if you're not all that interested at this point, I don't think it gets so much better that you'll end up loving it. So if you're really irritated by playing, I'm not sure the improvements would be enough to make up for your dislike of the game mechanics. They actually get harder, too...I didn't get stuck at all in the earlier hours but was stuck for a good hour at two points at least in later hours because the jump was there, but locked, and every other branch was completed and it just took so long to figure out how to make the jump unlock when every other path appeared to have concluded neatly, leaving no open ends.
Mystic Messenger, ugh. I really didn't enjoy that game. I can't stand chat-format...it was doomed from the beginning. I also only liked...er I think one of the characters, lol. Maybe two? Hard to remember now. But I believe it was very popular with at least a portion of the FOGU otome fans. Maybe all of those who played it...I don't think I was taking part in the discussion back when it was current.
This month I feel very rushed. I believe I will finish:
Atelier Lydie and Suelle
Waku Waku Sweets
And I really SHOULD finish:
Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky
Rune Factory: Tides of Destiny
Valthirian Arc
But I'll be lucky if I get even one of the second set done. Actually...I could live with that, if I got even one of those three complete in November along with the first two. But I'm betting I won't finish ANY of the second set. Definitely not if Mysteria comes out this month, which it really should...though I haven't heard anything, so maybe they've delayed it beyond the 'fall 2018' period already.
Thanks for the input on 428, Kikki. I actually just set up to trade it in on Amazon, so I will get back almost half of what I paid. I really wanted to like the game, but I just don't almost SOLELY due to the slow text speed. I can't stand games that have a lot of text without an instant read all option that I can advance at my own pace. When I'm forced to read at a predetermined speed, it can really ruin an experience for me to the point that I won't even bother.
I can see how Mystic Messenger would be a total turn off for many, but it's probably because I more or less got it all unlocked for instant gratification practically for free (the credits were sitting there for over a year untouched in my account) that I am liking it as much as I do
