I downloaded it and played maybe 10 minutes of the demo. I loved what I played and will absolutely buy it!
It's really unique, isn't it? I hope the whole thing lives up to the promise of the demo. I was taken with how different it feels, like something between an American-made big-screen animated motion picture from the 90s, and a Ghibli movie. I don't know this for *certain*, but I'm almost positive it's also on Steam and PS4, if anyone cares. But I don't know if it has a demo on those or not...I just know it has a demo on Switch.
I haven't played the whole demo yet as I really am burned out on gaming at the moment but I'm definitely going to complete it. And pay closer attention to my choices, next time.

It's currently downloading, so I'm very excited to play it. Mainly I was excited when presented with my first choice and there was a pop up that said, "This could have been different." And like that, I knew I wanted it. I'm also downloading Child of Light since I love the game even if it crashed on me back when I first got it for PS4.

I think while I wait for Smash, I'm going to platinum Night in the Woods on PS4, play Walking Dead Final Season Episode 2, and try and beat the final boss of Octopath Traveler.

Good luck with Octopath! I still haven't gone back to grind everyone's levels to be close to trying to beat the final boss.
I'm thinking of trading in my copy of Yomawari and a joycon I not longer use towards a copy of Ys8(if they have one in stock) or eShop cards to boost my funds. December is more or less a dead month for me after GRIS (and I don't expect it to last more than 10 hours, as that seems to be the inde game standard these days).
There are the Atelier re releases, and while I do love me some Atelier Totori, If it's over $40 (the price of the Vita version) I wont be biting. Either i'll get myself a copy of Ys8 or I'll use a bunch of eShop cards to go through my wishlist which is pretty much all indies. Said wishlist is:
Iconoclasts
Dust: An Elysian Tale
Moonlighter
Dungeon Village
Celeste
Forgotten Anne
SEGA AGES Phantasy Star
Marenian Tavern Story: Patty and the Hungry « Harvest Goddess »
Moon Hunters
I don't have anything else until Vesperia in January, and Bluie needs something to get her through winter. Last year I had 200+ hours Xenoblade 2 that kept me going for a long, long time. If either Ys8 or my wishlist can sustain me, then I think i'll be satisfied.

Was going through this (entire) thread to fish out my backlog progress for the whole year, and whoa...I normally never do New Year's Resolutions, but I think I may have to for 2019. MUST. WRITE. SHORTER. POSTS. They're so long I'm surprised any of you guys ever bother to read them, lol.
I don't remember where I was in Rune Factory: Tides of Destiny, nor do I remember how it plays, just that I mostly liked it. Not sure how to pick my existing file back up, but I don't want to restart. Well, that's a decision I'm putting off for a few more days anyway. No more gaming for the month. I actually need some real life to get a break from gaming! (I feel that that statement will backfire on me somehow. Feels foreboding...)
I hope you can finagle Ys VIII, Bluie. I really think you'll like it.

Only a month left to go for 2018's backlog, and for this thread! I'll start up a 2019 backlog thread within a few days of the end of December and ask Kirie to close this one on January 1, if possible

Definitely! I'll get around to the year end game survey thread here in a week or as well.
Beat both Slime Rancher and Yoku's Island Express! Both very cute games, and Slime Rancher definitely scratched that farming sim itch I've been having for awhile, so that was nice.
Also started Assassin's Creed Odyssey, and between that I should be finishing up Wuppo and Battle Chef Brigade fairly shortly.

So I managed to finally get through The Walking Dead Final Season Episode 2. Still REALLY hate the fight sequences. I know they were trying something different, but putting a walker behind me when I didn't even see one sneak up is annoying. Hopefully, Skybound won't do this too much, but who knows.
I also tried getting all those trophies for Night in the Woods and I don't think I'll be able to. I like the game, but some of those trophies are hard to get.
I did play Beyond Good and Evil on my PC and, while I do like it, my PC is too advance to play it. I'm downloading the HD version onto my Xbox One. I'll play that, Forgotten Anne, and Child of Light to distract myself until Smash comes out. They all seem like fairly short games. If I still have time before Smash comes out and these three games are beaten then I'll go back to Octopath.

Cattails unlocked >:D!!!
I love it. Very relaxing, very 'Stardew'. IDK how long it'll take to finish, I aint gonna rush it.
When I do finish it though, i'm going to give Hyper Light Drifter another chance. I think I tried playing it when I was too stressed out (middle of summer) and I want to try again. I dropped a lot of games this year and it is one of the few I kinda regret doing so.
I'll go for my hunt of Ys8 after my gums heal and I can speak again. I hope I find a copy!
Edit: nevermind, my local EB has a copy so i'm going to brave the pain and GO GET IT.

Oh yay!

In terms of length and layers of content, it has nothing on XC2, but still, I think it's way more of that 'big RPG' experience than anything else on the Switch, right now. It should be nice to have while feeling poorly, too, as it's an attention-grabber. Unless you prefer slower-paced, more easy-going stuff when you don't feel well.
Hopefully you'll really like it, anyway.
Also...thanks, Kirie

I'm looking forward to the GotY thread, too! Or the 'your gaming year in review' thread or whatever it's going to be called

Mission accomplished!
Not sure if i'm gonna get into it quite yet (I DO need more relaxing games atm), but it's now in the backlog. SO, as of now;
Cattails
YS VIII Lacrimosa of Dana
Hyper Light Drifter
GRIS
are my backlog (the WORK X WORK icon is a demo that i'm going to feel my way through eventually!).
I missed out on the Celeste sale, but i'm sure it'll go back down eventually. I feel like most of my wishlist indies never go on sale, but I'm a patient bean, I can (usually) wait. I predict Golden Week 2019 might cut a few of them down. The ones that are under $20 I might just buy anyways because eh, that's affordable, but nothing above that because I turn into a penny pincher once the taxes kick in.
I'm also really looking forward to the GOTY/Year Review thread! I've played some games that absolutely captivated me this year AND I JUST GOTTA SHARE.

I'm not making much progress in my backlog at all. November has been a busy month for me creatively, which also means my hands are getting a bit too much of a workout, so less gaming.
But Spyro Reignited Trilogy continues to be the love of my life... Maybe my favorite game I've played this year. Every level is so packed with gorgeous details, backgrounds, and models... I love it......
Also reading everyone else's posts keeps me motivated to chip away at the ol' backlog, so thank you all for sharing your gaming experiences!
@Bluie
Ahh, glad to hear you're enjoying cattails! I was wondering, how do the controls feel?
I've played it on PC and I kinda want to doubledip and get it on switch, but I'm very curious if it controls well on a console, and especially in handheld mode.
No need to answer if you don't want to, of course! I was just curious. Either way, glad to hear you're having fun. It is a really charming game.

Don't neglect to come gush about your favourite 2018 games once Kirie puts up her thread sometime in December

It'll be nice to have the year boiled down to everyone's favourites...this thread is so long that some games have gotten buried within it. But once we get to report our favourites, we'll see which games shone brightest of all...
Though this may lead to extra games added to our backlogs, lol. Spyro does look cute, though after seeing videos I'm still not entire clear on this. It's a platformer? Some of what I've seen didn't look that way, so I'm not sure.

Spyro is indeed a platformer. It was THE platformer on PSX back in the day. I don't recall if it was out before Crash Bandicoot, but it was one of the first on the system.
EDIT: I'm terrible at keeping track of my backlog. I returned 2 games (428 and RDR2), so I think I'm now at...
Death Mark
To the Moon
Finding Paradise
Steamworld Heist
Will
Sonic Mania
I'm not counting the Kingdom Hearts Collection that was recently released. I just like to waste money in an effort to keep all games in a series on the same console, apparently.

The controls feel great. Sneaking is handled by the ZL button while Attack/Pounce is ZR. You can scroll through your items with R instead of going into the menu. All menus can be navigated via buttons or touch screen(if you're playing handheld). It's a very good port.
