Try looking into that Left Joycon thing a bit deeper. There has been a plethora or problems with people's Left Joycons and it could be fixable. It could also be a faulty Joycon, as there was a lot of those in the first batch of Switches.

I think I actually did the 20 days thing. It was a lot of rapid fire doing the quests and already knowing what to do. Still wasn't super easy... :P

Terra Incognita has a lot of extra stuff to build you don't have access to in the story mode, especially the Switch version which added a lot of throwback stuff with the reto blocks. Auuugh, I really wana play it again!

I'm still waiting for Night of Azure 2 and Pripara to come in the mail. If they don't come this week (especially Pripara), I might have to have a chat with someone. I'm pretty patient when it comes to waiting for my orders from overseas, but it's approaching over the business days allotted to ensure delivery, so yeah, a little worried.

In the meantime, I went back to Xenoblade 2 New Game+ and got the rest of the NG+ blades. I managed to get one of my driver's luck to 942 so the odds are slightly more in my favour. I'm still missing freaking KOS MOS and it's driving me batty. Grinding oodles of cores of every type and opening them all to never get her is really discouraging. But. I. Will. Get. Her. I want to finish up the Blade gallery before the DLC blades start releasing in May, so I'll go back to grinding more cores soon.

Might go back to Splatoon 2 again for awhile as i'm ALSO trying to buy all the gear before version 3.0 drops (as it's dropping 100+ more gear items) but it's probably not gonna happen. Earning money in the game is a (fun) tedious grind that can be 50/50 good/bad depending on who you're playing with. What I would give to have a dedicated Salmon Run team that doesn't get themselves killed stupidly.

Thanks, yeah...good advice. I always look into my hardware problems before taking action, to see if there is anything I can do on my own. I tried the one method immediately available to me and it didn't work. I will try the second after my pro-controller gets here. I also tried to open the joy con to see if it had that 'ribbon' issue others mentioned, but though I have some truly tiny screwdrivers of various types, these are special three-prong micro screws that I have nothing to use with. :/ If it's faulty hardware that could only be fixed by Nintendo, honestly the hassle is not worth it for me and I'd rather buy new. But I wanted more joy cons anyway, and I wanted the pro-controller, so for now I figured this was the push to go ahead and get one. These still work for 2-8 hours before conking out (the time they will last is weirdly random, though, it seems) so they'd be quite fine as a back-up second pair.

I haven't tried Terra Incognita yet. I'd like if they had marble blocks...beautiful white stuff with grey and black, or pale rose, or rusty veining. Or even the black or grey marble with white/pink veining. I love marble. :) And I'd like more furniture options, too. I love to have so many options that I can't even get through them all...I'm super greedy when it comes to customization options in all my gaming, wherever it comes up. :)

I hope your games come right away; I hate when things get delayed in the mail. Always makes me wonder if they're going to come at all. :(

EDIT: I'm not clear on some things about Terra Incognita. I know playing the whole story unlocks all 4 of the islands (kind of obvious on that count) and that completing the 5 challenges of each chapter unlocks special items, but other than that...is all this stuff that is not available in the story mode available right from the start in TI?

I hope your games show up soon Bluie! I've been there, waiting on shipments can be so frustrating and even nerve-wracking, depending. :(

Also glad you're enjoying DQB Kikki!
It's cool that your sister found a game she likes as well. My mom is kind of like that, she plays games but doesn't often find new ones she likes, but she saw me playing DQB and once she tried it, she was hooked.
For me personally, I enjoy games so much more when people around me and playing and enjoying them too. It's fun to talk about the secrets you've uncovered, and exchanging tips and tricks for boss fights and things.

Actually, I might just go play some DQB myself... It is still on my backlog. I made it to the last chapter but I have a bad habit of abandoning games right before beating them, and all this talk has really put me in the mood for it.

I believe in Terra Incognita, as long as you have the materials, you should be able to make it (providing you have the stuff unlocked). Might have to check that though.

So, this was a good day for my backlog. I got the final blade in Xenoblade 2 (I almost screamed when she popped up), thus making it a game where I'll only pick it up again when the DLC is released (I also went and killed the final boss again for funsies).

And then Nights of Azure 2 came in the mail! Gonna start it real soon! Thanks for the well wishes, guys! Your good vibes made it show up! XD

Woo! Thank goodness...two good things at once! :) You deserve it after being so very patient on both counts for so long.

I am holding myself back from trying Terra Incognita before I finish the actual story, because I want to finish this before Black Butterfly gets here and then knock that one out right away to keep April in good shape to lead into my busy outdoor season (it has rained ice for three days, snowed over a foot, and is snowing RIGHT NOW, but historically it really does have to end in the next few weeks) but I really want to make a flower/plant/tree enforested terraced town with loads of glass and water :)
Spoiler:
Yeah, I'm happy my sister likes it, though it means I have to share regularly :) Btw, do you think there are any other games she'd like? I'd like to get her a few more, if possible. She loved BotW and she really likes DQB now...she likes games where she can wander around and gather resources (seriously, she loves picking up stuff...she especially loved throwing different items into the cooking pot to see what kind of recipe she could get out of what she'd gathered) but she doesn't like complicated battle systems. I've been recommended Horizon Zero Dawn, but I tried a demo of that and I wasn't sure if it was right. She's a pretty casual gamer. I'm thinking about Little Dragon's Cafe when it's available, if it seems like her thing. And she might like Fantasy Life...I can't decide. She sort of liked Ever Oasis, but not enough to stick with it. She doesn't like the bokumono games...says they're too hectic and make her feel stressed. I just don't know of any other games in her category. She said Yonder was TOO aimless, lol. She doesn't like playing handheld as well as on the TV as she says it hurts her neck. Yep, she's even harder to please than I am! Well, honestly, she's not really a gamer...these games just happened to hit all of her soft spots. That's why I can't think of anything else she'd like.

Ugh, raining ice for you too, huh? I want it to stahp. I'd like to be able to walk a few inches without doing an involuntary boogie.

I'm trying to think of game your sister might enjoy. I never got into the 'open world' genre until recently and I've hardly played any games outside of BoTW and DQB that feature a big expansive world with resources to collect. Fantasy Life might be a good choice as you can complete the game being a complete pacifist if you want, therefore be one of the resource collecting jobs the whole playthrough.

I guess for now, keep Dragon Quest Builders 2 in the back of your mind (I'm gonna guess we get it early next year) and maybe The Snack World: TreJarers Gold (same creators and engine as Fantasy Life - probably also out late this year / early next year). I can't really think of anything else at the moment.

It sure isn't biking weather. Or gardening weather. Or anything but huddling indoors (except to run out and spread salt to keep siblings and mailpersons from breaking their necks) weather. And we're on the May side of April, now, grr.

Thank you :) I wasn't really holding out much hope that anyone could suggest anything. I mean, if I can't think of something for my own sister...but then, there are a lot of games out there that I'm not aware of, so I thought I'd ask.

I can't figure out what Snack World is about, yet. It looks mostly like a fighting game, cute-style...I haven't seen much of town life or anything but battle screenshots and some character customization shots. It's one I'm going to look into again after it's out and reviews and videos are going up. Anything by the Fantasy Life folks is worth checking out.

I hope they include nice blocks for building bridges in DQB2. Though honestly I just want more variety in blocks of every kind, lol.

And hey, what do you all think of buying games for someone else if they're going to be on your system (I share my Switch with my sister, so if I bought her a game on it...)? Do you have to add that to your backlog? I'm thinking if you have no intention of playing it but only buying it as a gift, you don't, but...

Have fun with your games Bluie!

I've had freezing rain over here in southeastern Ontario, with our power going out every hour/two hours. Such a pain, I was supposed to finally finish up Torment today >:(

Nope! If you don't intend to play it, it doesn't go on the backlog. If you end up playing it you can add but, but otherwise, don't bother!

Yooo, southeastern Ontarian represent! Power has been stable here, but it went out in the middle of work a few days back, making my shift hellacious. Trying to do tasks with one hand occupied by a flashlight was...interesting. I feel so bad for Toronto rn. I was taking care of my grandma today (and all she ever watches in the news) and there's flooding, falling ice chunks, and plenty of car accidents, Ho boi. That city just isn't equipped for ice storms. Kids are probably loving the time off school though. :p

And yeah, don't bother adding things to your backlog unless you're planning on playing them. Keeps things nice a tidy.

Alright, i'm off to play some Nights of Azure 2. I hope I like it~

I thought Kirie was in Montreal, for some reason. I don't think I count as southeastern Ontario, but definitely eastern...we must all be in the same weather system, anyway. Lots of Ontarians anyway, looks like.

Hope you have fun, Bluie :)

I figured it didn't make sense to add a game to your backlog that you didn't buy for yourself and never intended to play, but since it's on my machine and would stay with me even if my sister and I went separate ways since I'll probably buy digital, I wasn't sure.

Oh we moved from Montreal last year! Good memory :D

Yikes, I hadn't looked at the weather down in Toronto, that's awful. Reminds me of back when we lived in Seattle and snow/ice would hit and the city would just completely shut down lol.

Looking at my "to buy" list for the rest of the year, I'm getting kind of scared at how stacked it's getting. E3 is only going to add to that..gonna have to start being really picky on the games I buy so my backlog doesn't pick up again. x_x

*Nervous laughter*

My "to buy" list is pretty massive too. Double it was last year. If I take out all the yet-to-be-confirmed localizations and games i've kickstarted, that's at least 15 games for the rest of the year. I certainly won't be bored, but I gotta figure out how to pay for all of these. >w>;

Octopath Traveler (which has a new introduction movie out now!) will be the most expensive game this year. $90 AFTER TAXES, YAY CANADA. I'm honestly pretty happy that most of the games I want are in the $60-70 range this year, because if I was only wanting AAA games this year, rip wallet.

Who knows what E3 will bring this year, but hopefully Fire Emblem, because I don't care how expensive it is, I NEEEEEED IT.

Anyways, played an hour or so of Nights of Azure 2 and I like it well enough. It's very obviously a PS4 port (B button to confirm, A to cancel + choppy framerate when too many enemies on screen) but eh, I'm not picky and I'll get used to it. It'll be a good filler game for when I'm waiting on releases. Neo Atlas 1469 releases in 2 days and i'll be picking it up as i've been intrigued by it since it as first released on the Vita (and we never got it). $30 more expensive than it's PC version, but i'll bite the bullet, because I don't have a gaming PC and having the game portable is better for me anyhow.

@Kikki
Spoiler:
You brought up Fantasy Life and honestly from everything you said, I think it'd be a great fit for your sister!
There's a pretty big world to explore, resources to gather absolutely everywhere, quests, cooking, crafting, and a combat system that is simple and also pretty satisfying. There are also twelve different "lives" (jobs? classes?) to choose from, and you can juggle as many or as few as you want. You can be a chef, focusing on cooking quests and ingredient gathering, a miner, exploring caves for the rarest gemstones you can find, a blacksmith, a carpenter, woodcutter, paladin, archer... Or you can do all of them at once, so there's rarely a shortage of things to do.

Also if these are at all +'s in her book, there's a lot of character customization options, and you get a house that you can decorate. You can actually buy vacation homes in other towns, too. And there's pets. And companions who join your party and fight alongside you. :) I would say that though there is a lot to do, none of it gets crazy in-depth, which can be a negative thing for some people. A lot of the jobs share similarities in how they work, like the minigame for cooking works the same way as the carpenter minigame and the smithing minigame, so while there are obviously variations in your goals with these jobs and what you're making, I can't say that every job is 100% unique. Also there's a fair bit of reading involved in the main storyline, which didn't bother me but I have friends that were a bit put off by it. The story is also nothing amazing. It's cute and serves the furthering of the game, and I found it very endearing and enjoyable, but it's pretty straightforward.

Sorry for a bit of a ramble there. I personally adore Fantasy Life and put well over 100 hours into it, but as with any game, it's not for everyone. Hopefully this helps at least a little to give you a good idea of what it's about. :)
TL;DR though, I think your sister would like it!
I'll let you know if any other games come to mind as well.

Yeeeeeeah I am neck-deep in Dragon Quest Builders again. I actually wasn't as far in as I thought. I booted it up and was only a little ways into the third chapter, which I'm taking as a positive, because I'm really enjoying myself again and don't want it to end.
I've not made a lot of progress on my backlog this year, but I've certainly cut down on how many games I've bought. Not sure yet if that's a good thing, because I still plan on buying a LOT of games... I'm just putting it off for now.
I probably will pick up Lady Layton or Style Savvy within the month. I was planning on getting those back in January, lol.
Also I really, really, want to get Ni No Kuni 2, but I don't think I can handle another JRPG right now. I got Xenoblade Chronicles 2 for Christmas and still haven't started that.

Thanks Ehppy :) I actually own Fantasy Life and your review of it is pretty on-point, in my opinion. And I could lend it to her since I have a physical copy of it. But ever since she started playing on the Switch, she doesn't like handheld gaming much any more, lol. Still, once she starts to get bored again, I'll have her try Fantasy Life. I feel the same way about it, with the story being nothing of significance...almost rather childish...but the story doesn't really matter in a game like that. It's the living and doing in the game that make it worth playing. (I still haven't tackled that much of the Origin Island expansion I have for it, yet.)

Though actually it's been said here, now, that you can just do one or a few of the 'lifes' and not bother with the rest, and now I need to go back and check that, because I remember them being very interdependent. Like you couldn't get the materials you needed as a carpenter unless you were also a woodcutter and a miner. And you can't get very far as a chef unless you're also a fisher and a hunter. I'll have to go back and see if they were less inter-dependent than I thought.

Ni No Kuni II is not at all the beast that Xenoblade 2 (or ANY of the Xenos) is. In this thread we have 2 or 3 people that finished it within a couple of days...3 or 4 days, I think, including myself. It's true that you can continue working on your town after the actual story ends, if you want, since there are some residents you can't get until after endgame which means you can't max the town until then, too, and I haven't finished that since I wanted to keep moving on my backlog...but I do intend to go back!

Anyway, it's probably not a game that would take you all that long to finish to the point where you can cross it off your log, if you want it really badly but are hesitating because you think it's one of those giant games that take too long to finish.

EDIT: I have now started Chapter 4 of Dragon Quest Builders and I love throwing that holy water around :) I think I'll complete the story this month for sure.

Xenoblade 2 is a beast.
Image
That's my playtime after two playthroughs (the second being shorter as I was skipping 80% of the cutscenes). I did a lot of grinding so I could get all of the 30+ unique party members and then spent a lot of time doing each of their questlines. If you just wanted to do an easy mode story only run, you'd still be running around 90-100 hours as the game is really just that big. I went into it with no backlog so I was prepared for a long journey. And I bought the season pass so there's even more to be done once the DLC party members and storyline gets dropped.

I'd say if you want Ni No Kuni 2 then to go for it, as it seems to be a pretty short one. Unless you really wanna play Xenoblade 2 first.

So, I woke up this morning to find Neo Atlas had a worldwide midnight release.
Spoiler:
Image
Put a few hours into it already and I love it. It's like half visual novel half hidden object game. You get to mold the world to your liking and become rich while doing it. It's also literally 'prove all the flat earthers wrong' the game. My butler keeps wanting me to sail east to reach a certain part of the world because lol world ending waterfalls but NO, WE ARE GOING WEST, SHUT UP MIGUEL. Unfortunately, the only thing we've found in the west is krakens. RIP that ship I sent out.

Purify all the ground, Kiki! ALL OF IT (I'm kidding, don't, that would take an eternity).
