Splatoon 2 is gonna kill my backlog. I don't have it online right now but I know Splatoon 1 was SO addicting. I haven't even finished BoTW because I wanna play Ranked. Alas, Ranked doesn't wanna play with me. I went from a A- last year to a C- because my internet disconnects constantly.

Woomy on, my man. Ranked isn't my cup of tea but I get the frustrations of disconnects. I've pretty much shelved Splatoon 2 besides the occasional money grinding (for those sweet threads) and Splatfests (I always need more sea snails).
I have the DLC bought and i'm excited for it, but it releases on the same day as Octopath Traveler, which is my most anticipated title this year. Becoming an Octoling will just have to wait.

Okay...I finished DQB. I do have to go back to chapters 3 and 4 and finish any challenges whose rewards I want to unlock for Terra Incognita, but that's a side issue. So no problems with April's backlog at all...I've got a little bit of leeway going into my more demanding half of the year where there are just as many games to WANT to buy and play, but not as much time. So much good stuff this year...
Though I suppose I should still go back and look at that list I made a few weeks ago of my games that were a top priority to knock off the older backlog once and for all...

Just two more endings (Sacred Land and Silver Fish) and a power berry (Sacred Land) left and I'll have gotten the platinum for Save the Homeland!
I can already taste the start of a Suvi-mance file for Andromeda by maybe next week!

Rather than sit content with a (+2) for April I thought I'd try wrapping up I Am Setsuna as well, and have played another hour or so on it, but...oh man, it is so uninteresting to me. The story is just so cliche, so far, at least as I see it. I don't think I'm all that far in...about three hours maybe? Met Freyja and Nidr and entered the Frost Caves but that's as far as I've gotten. And I hate the super standard turn-based combat. I mostly dislike turn-based combat but can get into turn-based if they do something a little unique with it...I enjoyed combat in Trails of Cold Steel II, for example...but this doesn't seem to have any of that uniqueness so far. I love the graphics and the music is nice but I can't seem to get into it.
I might end up abandoning this one and archiving it. I'll try to pack in another hour or two on it, get to about 25% of the way through the game or so to see if things get more interesting around then, but it's proving to be a chore thus far.

Are you powering up your moves in battle with flux + momentum? They add a little more depth to battles (as you have to press the button at the right time for it to activate). The game gives you little to no tutorial on this, so if you don't know what i'm talking about:
Also, I agree that the game is slightly lax luster, but I do love it. The ending was really touching and the music is super. Other than that it's very basic.
Lost Sphear explained the mechanics a lot better (and made the battle system more fun by adding mechs).

Square? *looks down at Switch controller* Is that the same as Y? Honestly I don't even remember those things being mentioned in the game, but I guess I can try pressing Y when the little sound goes off and see if anything happens... Thanks

Yeah, it's Y on the Switch. They mention if for like, 3 seconds at the beginning of the game. Confession: I beat the entire game without once using the flux + momentum system, and some bosses were freaking brutal. Would have to loved to know about the system after dying so many time lol.

It does a LOT more damage, it seems, when you get momentum in with a hit. Then eventually you get to add a flux bonus feature or something like that, it looks like...I got one on Blunt Blow just now, though I don't entirely understand it yet, I went ahead and enabled it.
I am really not liking the saving at save points only feature, though. I get really irritated when I want to quit but can't find one. I don't even seem to find them inside towns...
I'm also finding the story painfully predictable. As soon as I walked into Floenia or whatever it is called, and talked to a few of the townspeople, I knew how the situation there was going to unfold. I've finished this section now and sure enough, the character in question is just what I suspected. I like to feel more surprised as the story goes on so I'm not having a lot of fun with this. But it seems to be pretty short...I might even be 35-40% done. I really should just wrap it up. (I'm going by the walkthrough I consulted to see how much more game there was left. It divides it into 10 sections and I am now entering the 5th section. But I'm not actually reading the walkthrough, just using it as a gauge for how far in I am, so I'm not certain.)

You should be able to save anywhere on the world map iirc, but save points themselves really only show up right before bosses. It is pretty short, but if you do end up shelving it and want to know the story at least, hit me up and i'll tell you. There are some interesting twists at the end, some in character quests (every party member has one - they're not mandatory though).

Thanks I really should try to finish it, to either give it further opportunity to endear itself to me, or to teach myself a lesson about buying games I simply like the look of even though nothing about else about them hits any of my particular likes. I have a terrible weakness for games I like looking at. I've gotten over that when it comes to platformers...I have never enjoyed myself while playing a platformer (or a shooter) except Commander Keen when I was a kid. But when it comes to RPGs, I'm still a sucker for a nice aesthetic. But I'm actually super fussy about my RPGs. I love them like crazy when I get drawn in by the story and characters, but if I don't, they're a complete wash.
I haven't run into any character quests but I've just been hurrying to get through it. Though I do talk to everyone I run in to so I assume I just haven't gotten to them yet. Gotta fight that huge castle-looking golem thing next.

Nah, I totally get that. I gave up on 90% of platformers a year or so ago as I found that I just don't enjoy them as much as I used to. Whether they're 3D, side scrolling, or a subgenre like metroidvania, I end up really only liking one out of the masses. Muramasa Rebirth is the last one I really enjoyed. I've tried multiple times to get into great games like Shovel Knight, but I just can't.
Both RPGs and Sidescrollers i've found are a heavily saturated genre these days, a lot of good ones, a lot of nice looking ones, but few that I end up really liking. When it comes to RPGs, I need them to not be too challenging these days. If there's an easy mode, i'll use it, no shame. If I end up adoring the game, i'll play it again and up the difficulty and continue to do so until i'm tired of it (I do this with every Fire Emblem game).
When I was a teenager, I had all the time (and money) in the world for video games, so I just played whatever whenever, but I don't have that luxury anymore. I, too, am attracted to pretty games, but if they're not too my liking, then I give up on them. I have found that I like a mix of classic JRPG (I am Setsuna) and experimental RPGs (Dragon Quest Builders) so i'm easily suckered into almost every game from Japan these days. I just went through my Wishlist yesterday and thought "which ones do I REALLY want?" and cleaned it out. E3 is still going to destroy me though, I know it.
ANYWAYS, backlog stuff. Uhhh, Neo Atlas is still fun!

Okay, I'm throwing in the towel for getting the platinum for Harvest Moon: Save the Homeland, at least for now. I'm at the part in the Fishy Story ending where I can catch the Silver Fish on full moon nights. Every time I get it hooked, it escapes. I've also had no luck trying to get either ending for the Sacred Land either, which means I can't grab the power berry trophy either. I'm sure I'll go back to it eventually, but, after going through six of the nine available endings, I'm ready to just move on.
So, with that being said, Suvi, here I come!

Finally finished Torment. Only Yakuza 0 and Trails 3rd left! I've got a little over 2 weeks to beat both before PoE2 is out on the 8th, and then a landslide of games hit x_x
A few hours into Trails 3rd and they weren't kidding when they said it was a very different format than the previous games. It's kinda refreshing!

Psychedelica of the Black Butterfly is out on the 27th. Gonna try that one later rather than right away?
