Yeah so... I've been saving up for Fire Emblem Fates. (2 Physical Birthright and Conquest and the Digital Revelation) But, I think I'll buy Fire Emblem Echoes first, BUT I have a question... If I played Echoes first will it somehow affect my gameplay of Fates (Y'know just in case Echoes is very advanced or stuff?) Sorry for the grammar!

I haven't played much of echoes (I played a friend's copy), but from what I've played and heard it's harder than Birthright (which is supposed to be the easiest of the three routes) and easier than Conquest, so ultimately I don't think it will negatively impact your experience but I also played Fates before Echoes. I hope this helps, again I didn't play far into Echoes so I'm not sure how much more difficult it gets.

Tbh a lot of the gameplay is so old compared to Awakening/Fates (Fates' gameplay being essentially a fleshed out version of Awakening), that at times it is more like...the estanged cousin. Like, it's still 100% a FE game but a lot of it is just...different. More gimmicky than anything. Hard to explain. It's not BAD but not nearly as polished/smooth as Fates/Awakening is.

Echoes is still a really great game though. But it's strongest point imo is in it's presentation/story, not the gameplay itself (although it's not bad, just old. Certain added features are really fun/interesting tho).

So, basically, it is its own thing. The smoothest transition you can have is Awakening -> BR -> CQ -> RV -> Echoes, but Echoes is just so different that you can technically play it now and probably have no problem. Just the gameplay isn't the same as Awakening (same concept obv, just...differently implemented?), which Fates is really close to, so I would generally recommend to do Fates first simply because it's more familiar.

Personally, I never really struggled with Echoes too much. I've heard some folks frustrated with the mechanics of the game, but I think that's due to age, more than anything. Tbh Conquest is only hard due to lack of resources/grinding, which you can do in Echoes. More challenging maps, for sure, but it's the lack of grinding that ties down the challenge primarily. Which you can remedy with DLC if you need to.

Speaking of which, if I remember right, it SHOULD be cheaper to just buy one physical copy and get the other two routes on digital. I think. Don't they like reduce the price of the other non-revelations path (like through the main menu they'll give you the option)? I got the merged/special pre-order copy so I never dealt with that. I would definitely look into that cause it'd be easier to do that versus juggle between two copies.

tl;dr - Echoes is a remake of an older game, with some cool new stuff added in to freshen it up, but for the most part it's age is still pretty evident and Fates' gameplay is far more smoother/advanced/better than Echoes. Echoes is still a great game, just a lot different from Fates. For the smoothest transition in terms of familiarity and such; I would generally recommend Fates first, especially if you're new to the series, but tbh you can do either.

Yes I recommend only buying one physical copy of Fates and then expanding it via dlc. You even get some bonuses for doing that.

That is of course unless you absolutely MUST HAVE both cases of the game lying around.

In that case, be aware that any dlc, including Revelation, will not be shared between both games. So you'll either have to choose a path- erm I mean, pick a main game for the dlc, or buy it all twice.
