A question

So, I ordered my 3ds online and it`s about to be delivered this week, and here comes my question if I played my physical cartridge games in it, will it create a new extra data on the sd card of my new 3ds? (Correct me if I`m wrong, but I think the extra data is for the DLC? And I haven`t bought any DLC yet...) Or will I just transfer my current 3ds` SD card on my new 3ds? Or will I system transfer (which I`m trying to avoid `cuz I want to reset my NNID)

Cartridges more often than not save their data in the cartridge itself. You should not lose your data in cartridge games if you switch consoles.

There's some exceptions, like super Mario maker, which has the save data tied to the console. As well as some games that allow you to save extra files on the 3ds, but those usually also carry slots in the cartridge.

Still, I'd recommend doing a system transfer if you have any dlc or digital content you wish to use in your new system.

Dlc in particular may cause certain save files to not load in the new system. For example, fire emblem warriors will not let you play a file that has used the dlc in a 3ds without it.

Really?
Oh, I apologize for giving false info then.

I vaguely recalled that when I had the original 3DS (before the XL even existed) and bought a “new one” (this was years ago), I didn’t do a system transfer and I had to start over on everything. Maybe that was only the original...or my games got corrupt somehow???

I don’t want to test that theory ^^’. Anyway I did full system transfers ever since then so that’s probably why I got confused.
Sorry again.
