So I'm on my 3rd file, and the first Summer. I can't recall winning the festival before on my other two files. I really suck at it. But I was pretty certain you still get a musical note even if you lose, right? Thought so. And the guide here makes it sound that way.

So here's what happened: I participated, and hit all 4 buoys for sure. The circle above my head definitely lit up for each one. And I was first. Jamie finished immediately after me. Then when the others finished, the screen got stuck for a moment when doing that blackout circle thing (what's that called?). And who won? Dan. What?! You'd think it'd at least be Jamie. Where'd that come from?

So, I got no powers berry. And no note. I hadn't saved that day, so I just shut it off.

When I go back, I'll check my other two files to see if I have a note for that festival in each of them. Just wish I could remember for sure if I won that in them.

Anyone else's input on this might help.

I always thought you had to win in order to get the note, and Cher's guide confirms that you need to win in order to get the note.

No, actually, the guide says this exactly, "Besides getting a Music Note for participating, the winner of the game will receive one of the rare Power Berries." Music Note for participating. Power berry for winning.

Anyway, I checked my other files. The first one does not have that note despite being years into the game, but my second file dies even though I only played that one for a year. I don't remember winning, but I'm just going to hope I did and that both my memory and the guide is wrong on that.

But even with that solved, there's still the mystery of why Dan was the winner even though both Jamie and myself very clearly finished before him.
