I might be able to get a laptop soon and stardew valley is on my game list for steam. Is there anything I should know about the game beforehand?

Shut up.

Shan, just play however you like. The one thing i'll mention is that you should always save at least one of every item. It's very tempting to just ship everything, but if you're planning on doing the community center route, I kicked myself several times for shipping items I needed for it. The Traveling Cart visits Fridays and Sunday and have a low % rate of carrying almost any item in the game, so it's good to check it when it's in town (it's below your farm and to the left).

Just have fun. It's a great experience.

Bundles are definitely the main thing that you might regret not saving items for, as finishing each section in the community centre tends to grant a pretty big bonus, mostly items if it's a single bundle, but larger things like opening new sections of the map, or etc when you complete an entire room of bundles (thereby rebuilding the room and making it spiffy again). If you want, you can see info on every bundle HERE. This page does tell you what bonus you'll get for completing individual bundles as well as what you'll get for finishing the whole room, so if you like to keep that secret (I didn't care, I wanted to know what to prioritize anyway) then don't check that link after all. :)

I'd recommend to befriend Shane. All he way to 8 hearts.

Be careful of your stamina bar, it runs out pretty quickly and time goes faster than you'd think.

Thanks guys I’ll keep these things in mind.

As for saving literally everything, lol, after what happened in ANB I’m a nerd when it comes to this.

Shane's storyline, even if you're not planning on marrying him, is good. Dark, but good. He's very unpleasant, but he gets better the more friendship you get with him.

I never bothered to befriend Shane. He does unlock a thing at 8 hearts, but it wasn't a thing I cared about since it wasn't necessary for anything, at least not in my books, so it kind of depends on you, how important you'll find it to be to befriend him.

Spoiler:
:) Yeah, some people really want access to those. But to me it was just a re-skin I didn't need. Possibly useful if for some reason you wanted to own a huge amount of chickens to just make it slightly easier to keep track of them, but that wasn't something I was interested in. And as a character, I didn't like him; I just never found the reward worth the effort. Especially since you can just apply a mod to have different colours of chickens. Heck, if you really want, you can even turn your chickens into parrots of a variety of colours.

Yeah, it's pretty relaxed for how you can play. I just wanted to say that I don't think befriending Shane is necessarily a thing you need to rush for, that it's more about preference than necessity. I mean, if I was told it was important to befriend Shane, or to get him to 8 hearts as soon as possible, I'd rush around to do so thinking it would cause me hassle later if I didn't...and then when I found out what getting to 8 hearts unlocks, I would be really disappointed and feel that that effort was a waste, since I don't care about it in the slightest...don't give a hoot if I ever unlock it.

I know there are others who are really keen on it and want it as soon as possible and for them hurrying to befriend Shane is worth it. But since you read the spoilers (lol), now you know exactly what that's about and can decide if you care enough to focus on Shane from the start or not. :)

Definitely check out some of the mods on the official forums. The fishing can be a PAIN, but there's a mod for that (I hate the fishing, it's evil. SO evil). But mostly just chill, have fun, and don't stress if it takes a while to figure some things out.

Well since the spoilers got spoiled,
Spoiler:
The blue chickens look nicer and give both kinds of eggs. So it's cool. And Shane is super easy to befriend if you stock up on his favorite crop.
