I saw HM64 in Nintendo Power and really wanted it. I couldn't find a copy for over a year (because the NP article came out well before it was localized), then I found it at a small game shop in town (Blockbuster has like 20 copies of DK64, but no HM64). Then my friend's dad (who owned a toy/hobby shop) told me that he had a used copy (which saved me like $25), so I bought it from him.

In Michigan, we had this video game store called Family Video (there’s a few left but mostly out of business now) they were a smaller chain and carried a lot of niche titles.. Anyway, I was like 6 maybe and was looking at the games, saw HM64 and my 6 year old brain was sold when it saw the puppy. Picked it up without even reading what it was about. Been in love with HM ever since. That was 20 years ago. Played every HM since.

Rented it by chance at Blockbuster, fell hopelessly in love, never looked back.
Squealed like a banshee when I found out that they were making More Friends of Mineral Town, because playing my gender, heck yeah. XD

About 12-13 years ago I was looking on Gamestop's website looking for games to ask for for Christmas. I saw A Wonderful Life SE and decided "why not?" It was one of about five games I got that year and I assumed that I wouldn't play it a whole lot - jokes on me, I ended up playing it the most. Looking up info online, I eventually stumbled across ushi, started posting, and have been pretty hooked into the series since.

This is a great thread!I found out about this series after finding a copy of FOMT in my sister's old room.My young self got so addicted to that game!I really loved the art style and how laid back the game
was.I seriously loved playing that game so much.I didn't even know what I was doing but I didn't care because it was fun to play.I eventually got better after playing it for a while and with the help of the internet.I found Ushi and other HM/SoS games by using the internet. That's when I really started falling in love with this series.I have lots of good memories of this series so it will always be special to me.

I’ve loved farms since I was a tiny itty-bitty thing. I would check out farm books from libraries, pretend it, and get excited whenever I saw any big ones. It was my mom’s intention to raise us on a farm, like she sorta kinda was, but it just didn’t happen. So I just got to hear her stories, and my own experience was just messing around on the small farm of someone a relative was with, or on the land my uncle still owned but never did anything with. Also we live surrounded by farms and it ticks me off a little cause they’re not mine. XD I’d still want to work on a farm.
So when I got Herdy Gerdy in PS2 (yeah, not Harvest Moon), I fell in love because it was the only video game I had that was even close to farming. I still make “doop” noises when I see chickens. I didn’t even notice how awful the lip syncing was. This was also the first that actually had me feeling fear from a video game. Those Gromps got my adrenaline going.
But then one amazing day (I can’t remember if it was my birthday or what), we had a bunch of family over and I got my GameCube along with 4 games, one of them being A Wonderful Life. And Herdy Gerdy has been neglected ever since. My mom did a very good thing in buying me that. AWL was the most amazing thing in the world to me. I was all writing stuff down on paper and talking about it all the time. I lived and breathed it. I cared way more about the farming than the marriage at first, but the fact that a game even let you marry people eventually got my brain wondering about it, so I made files for all 3 girls. Celia was my first wife cause she fit the farming thing well, but Muffy and Nami ended up tied as my favorites. I feel a little bad...
I was like, maybe 9 at the time that I got it? It wasn’t until I was in my teens that we got internet, unfortunately got rid of it, and then got phones with internet again in my very late teens. So I didn’t get to look anything up when I was younger, and it didn’t really even occur to me when I could’ve. I discovered the other games slowly during GameStop visits. I can’t even remember what order I bought them in. So, yeah, once I was a teenager/adult, I went nuts with making lists of the games and reading every little thing I could find on each one. And... I still do. I have over half of the main series, and when I add in the spin-offs, knockoffs, and whatever else, I still manage to have over half. I feel very satisfied when I look at my lists and my game shelves.
Oh, and I’m WAY more interested in the dating and marriage then I was back then. Before, I was able to pick favorites, but it wasn’t until ToTT that I got super crazy about the hot characters. It’s weird how my reasons for buying the games shifted more towards marriage than farming. I don’t really mind it though.

My dad took me and my brother to an electronics store and so the two of us were perusing the video games section. I saw the cover of AWL and it looked like it could be fun so I convinced my dad to buy it for me and now here I am. Not super interesting but I would have never guessed it would have unintentionally changed my life so much lol I couldn't really tell you WHY that game looked appealing to me since it wasn't really my style of games I normally played, but I'm glad I did anyways

I've always been interested in farms too. It's odd that I'm such an animal person when I've never been allowed around animals; I've never even pet a cat and have had little interaction with dogs. Having a farm was my dream as a kid... Then I learned about factory farms. Even lil' ol farms don't interest me much anymore, tbqh. I just want the animals as pets. Maybe a few sheep, a goat, a few cows, some horses, a pig, a flock of hens...
Harvest Moon got me really interested in farm animals. Without it, I'd probably never have gotten so into chickens or cows. It's a shame that until recently it's been the only farm sim around that isn't an honest-to-goodness farm sim. I like farming, but Farm Simulator is a bit too boring for me.
