Smash is cool, a lot of people have been clamouring for it, and the Spatoon expansion looks really cool.

lol @ the 3DS reel though. That was... pretty disappointing and I don't even own a 3DS anymore.

Boy howdy, lookit all that Mario and Splatoon! =D
Spoiler:

Massive disappointment over lack of FE (and bit of "brine" over all the Mario/Splatoon stuff, clearly, YMMV) there was some decent stuff in there for myself. Never got to finish Luigi's Mansion on the gamecube, so that'll be fun. I've already played Okami on the PS3, but I may give it a whirl on the Switch. Undertale, maybe, as I never got around to playing it. Never looked into Octopath, but my mind may have been changed on that (the popart book was adorable).

In short, pretty disappointing to me, but I feel it was a great direct for Mario/Splatoon/Smash fans so, different folks different strokes and all that.

The Octo Expansion looks great but I just don't like that it's DLC ?? I'd rather just buy it solo. I'm assuming they're just testing the waters for splatoon single player content, but like I don't play multiplayer stuff as much, and would only be interested in the DLC so buying the base game would be...silly.

The octolings are super cute, but the main gal kind of made me uncomfortable with how much they kept trying to make her look/act "sexy."

On the plus side, Nintendo checked off a bunch of boxes with this direct. Smash - check, major 3rd party ports - check, popular indie - check, and a WiiU port. I feel like they're getting them out of the way so they can focus on the heavy hitters this E3. Smash is probably an enhanced port if it's coming out this year.

But Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem are now gonna be in even higher demand. They're hiding something, I can feel it.

So, I think the nicest thing about this Direct was that they confirmed a lot of release dates. However, there was nothing in this Direct that I have any interest in owning excepting only Hyrule Warriors, which I already knew was coming this year. That's fine though, since I'd already thought there probably wouldn't be anything I was interested in, this time. (The Mini Direct just before this one actually had three things I was interested in, way more than I would have though, so I can't complain much!)

Funny thing is that for a while, I had convinced myself that Splatoon was going to be a feature of this Direct, since I've been seeing it crop up in their Twitter feed and etc for a while now. Then I gave my head a rattle, wondering why I even thought that, since it's a game that is already released. But there ya go...it's DLC. Doesn't concern me, but at least now I get why it seemed like they were promoting it.

Oh but, I love Splatoon amiibos. So stupid of me! I mean, I have NO interest in playing it, but all those squid girls are just so stylish, I want to have them all around. I have resisted, though...

I do think it's fairly likely we'll get something on AC at E3 (never really thought they'd feature it in a direct, jammed in with a dozen other announcements...I think they're going to make a big deal of it when it does hit the scene.)

For anyone who has no interest in watching the Direct or wading through articles, here are the games that were featured along with any release dates, if given:
Spoiler:
3DS:

Sushi Striker: The Way of Sushido (June 8th) (Also for Switch.)
WarioWare Gold (August 3)
Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story (2019)
Detective Pikachu (March 23 and amiibo then, too)
Luigi's Mansion 3DS Port (2018)

SWITCH:

Kirby Star Allies (March 28 for post-launch update)
Okami HD (Summer 2018)
Octopath Traveller (July 13)
Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes
Dark Souls Remastered + Amiibos (both May 25)
Mario Tennis Aces (June 22)
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker (July 13)
Undertale
Crash Bandicoot N'sane Trilogy (July 10)
Little Nightmares: Complete Edition(may 18)
South Park: The Fractured But Whole (April 24)
Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition (May 18)
Splatoon 2 Version 3.0 (2018, $20)
Super Smash Bros. Nintendo Switch (2018)

Yeah, with E3 there's tons of stuff we could potentially get news on: FE, AC, Metroid, Dragon Quest XI, Tales of Switch etc, and it's not very far away, so that's cool! More time for me to clear out my remaining few games from my backlog I guess :')

One thing I'm kind of surprised we got zero news on was Mario Odyssey DLC, but I guess they did just release that Luigi's balloon thing not too long ago.

I saw some of the direct on my break and read the rest of it. Overall, I thought it was decent. Glad there's a release date for Hyrule Warriors and Octopath Traveler! Not to mention the Splatoon 2 DLC! And Smash! I do want to know if this is a remake of 4 or a new title entirely. I'm thinking the latter due to BotW Link showing up in the trailer, but who knows.

I'm debating on the following titles:

Mario and Luigi Bowser's Inside Story Remake - I have the DS version and it looks like all this adds in is the Goomba style combat storyline that the first Mario and Luigi remake added in and I didn't like that.

Luigi's Mansion - I had the original, but sold it for reasons I cannot remember.

Okami HD - I have it for PS3, but this is on the go, so it might be worth it.

Captain Toad - I have it for Wii U, but this adds in multiplayer and new maps. I liked it, but not sure if I liked it enough to warrant getting it again.

WarioWare - I've only played one entry in the series and I sold it when I did everything in it, so...who knows.

I am a bit disappointed in no Animal Crossing or Pokemon announcement, but I guess that's where E3 will come to play.

I just realized they didn't show off the new Yoshi title at all.

Welp, guess that's one thing at E3 this year. Guess they wana give their other relaxing platformer a little breathing room. I didn't expected it to be a fall game, but this summer is stacked. Because of this direct, i'm going to skip out on my one convention this year. I don't have the money for cosplay + ticket and all the games I wanted last night on the direct (plus other 3rd party games that weren't shown!).

July 13th is painful. Octopath Traveler and Captain Toad on the same day. Why.

Also, Smash on Switch is being hinted at as a band new entry, and not a port, sooo RIP more E3 time.

Lol. Do you have to get them both on release day? You could leave one for later purchase. :) Since doing the backlog blitz I have completely stopped buying games that I don't want to play as soon as I get them (and I never play more than one game at once...but I can't remember if you were the type to play more than one at once or not, Bluie.) It's been quite useful in that way.

I'm glad this ND showed off stuff some people really want. I did like seeing definite release dates being shown, and hopefully this will stop the constant comments of 'Smash when?' and the like that are all a large number of people seem to leave on any Nintendo post lately. (As someone who couldn't give a flying fig about Smash if she was paid to try, that's all just clutter, to me.) That they call it 'Super Smash Bros (working title)' is...odd. No one seems certain whether it's a port or not, as far as I can tell.

What i'll probably end up doing is get Octopath Traveler locally and then order Captain Toad online so it comes a week or so later (fun fact: It's cheaper for me to order games on Play Asia than get them locally). Because i'm picky, I don't often have more than one game going at once, but sometimes a few games I want come out at the same time and I find it hard to ignore one over the other (because games that I want seem to be so spread out).

But, this year has been pretty good so far with spreading games out, releasing one or two a month, allowing my funds to replenish between releases. I just hope that Okami and Shining Resonance are August games, because they're both summer, and June/July are already have two titles I want.

Please, Nintendo, slow down.

It feels bad having a new SSB because I literally just bought SSB4U for Christmas. I waited like three years to buy it, expecting that the port rumours were fake, but now we're getting a sequel this year! I can't even play my SSB game because Splatoon ruined my right analog stick; 'gotta get a Gamepad or Gamecube port.

The only negative thing about this direct was Warioware... On the 3DS! I mean, come on! I waited four to six years for this and expected it to skip the 3DS, but now they're doing it? That's so cruel. We're gonna get a Switch title in 2020 at this point.

This Direct had so many good games, but luckily many were third party. With Nintendo games it doesn't matter whether you buy them on launch or 2 years later, 'cause they'll always be $60. But with something like Crash Bandicoot or South Park, you know they'll be down to $40-$25 by December. So it's worth waiting for those.

Oh, and that new X rank in Splatoon 2... Great. A new rank I won't get. Who here even got to S+?

I haven't even gotten past A+ in the first game. I dropped back down to C- due to internet connection issues, and now I'm stuck at B- to B.
