While nowadays, the Shining series is more geared towards action RPGS, the originals on the Megadrive/Genesis were great strategy RPGs. Basically they were SEGA's take on Fire Emblem. My favorite was the epic 3-part installment for the Sega Saturn


Recently, I started a playthrough of Shining Force 2 on the PS3's Megadrive Classics Collection. It's just as addictive as ever. My favorite character so far is May, the centaur archer.

So, anyone else fans of this series?

I had to look it up on Wikipedia, but it looks like you're talking about the game that was at the beginning of the series that eventually spawned Shining Resonance Refrain, the enhanced port of Shining Resonance, which is one of the most recent in the series. I'm quite interested in Shining Resonance Refrain and am keeping my on it as it comes up to release, but I actually don't know anything about the series. Though it looks like it has a LOT of games, and covers multiple genres. According to what I looked up, anyway, the series has dungeon crawlers, strategy-based games, and action RPGs.

Looking it up actually made me a little more confused, lol. It sounds like an unusual series. I only became aware of its existence quite recently, unfortunately.

I've only played a little bit of Shining Force: The Sword of Hajya when it came out on the 3DS eShop. I liked Chester, he was cool.

While not part of the tactical games, I am looking forward to Shining Resonance Refrain this year. The more JRPGs on the Switch, the better.

Loved the series. I think I played it on the GBA. Shining Force: Resurrection of the Dark Dragon.

Course now it's on STEAM I may have to get it again.

I swear the US only got one of the parts of Shining Force 3 though, iirc. That's been more yeas than I'd like to admit though.

That's right, only scenario 1 was officially translated and released in the west. One of the big disadvantages of being released at the end of the Saturn's lifespan. Which lead to it's protagonist Synbios being voiced by the biggest troll in the industry.

Although a fan translation patch is available, from what I've heard.
