Hi guys!

Lately I've been feeling a bit under the weather, but also antsy to play some video games. Do you guys have any good suggestions on games to play that are easy to play even when sick? I'd love to hear them! Thank you. :D

Other than avoiding complicated fighting games, I can't think of anything that makes a difference when you're sick, unless you go all the way down to either mobile games, or games that come installed on your PC, like Solitaire. I mean, when I had kidney stones (highly do not recommend them, btw...I've never had kids so I can't compare on that side, but they liken the pain to giving birth and even though I doubt that, there is a reason for it. They really, reeeeally hurt!) I played mahjong, because it was kind of meditative. All I had to do was gaze at the (quite pretty) screen full of tiles and click on ones that looked the same. It barely involved thought or movement at all and let me maintain a sort of daze, yet gave me just that little bit of distraction to sort of help disconnect my mind from what was going on.

If it's not persistent pain, though, I don't really change my gaming much. I have chronic fatigue due to MS as it is so I'm always pretty tired, but if I can't just sleep through the worst of it and need something to do, I usually have to go with reading. The most demanding games, to me, are ones with complicated battle systems but once you take them out, I don't really find any games beyond mobile games/solitaire/minesweeper/etc to be any simpler and easier to play than any others. But I assume they're not what you're looking for?

An established file in a bokumono game is probably very easy to play...one where you're already in year 3 (or etc) and have your almost all of your goals and so on done, so that there's not much left to remember/coordinate. Other than that, I can't think of anything. Not of things I actually play. Maybe a platformer? There are some cute indie or 'semi-indie' platformers on Switch and PS4 and Steam that are quite inexpensive, like Tori Toki 2. Or oh...maybe walking simulators or ones that combine with adventure/puzzle games. Something like Fe, perhaps, or The Last Day of June or Firewatch...things like that. Night in the Woods might be one to take a peek at. If I am too tired but still want to play games because I can't actually sleep, then I'd tend to go with something that doesn't require me to remember anything complicated. Battle Chef is pretty simple but actually fun, and Steamworld Dig fits for me, too. They're not mindless, but not complicated, either. That's what I'd be looking for, myself...fun without being complicated. Arcade style games would work, too, probably...games like Tetris or Match-3 types. Mario Party on 3DS probably has some good options. I also like Art of Balance (Wii U/PS4/3DS) and Colour Zen on Wii U/3DS for that sort of thing. Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker could work, too. It really depends on the individual and what they're looking for and capable of while they're not feeling well. Even a turn-based RPG would give you a big story game without having to be super alert to the fighting since time stops in the menus, so some of those might be okay even if the story is complicated. I just avoid things that make me tense or require me to remember an entire manual in order to play well.

I usually go for HM and tycoon games (Rollar Coaster, Zoo, sometimes Sim City). They're relaxing for me. Plus tycoons often come with a sandbox mode.

IDK what systems you own, but you have a 3DS, so i'd recommend some chill games like Animal Crossing, Any of the three Style Savvys, or something with low key combat like Ever Oasis.

If 3DS, then Fantasy Life can be played pretty calmly, too, but there's loads to do. You don't need the organizational or multi-tasking skills for that that you do for a Bokumono game, though. I think if you're sick or run down you need a game you can putter around in, not feel rushed or pressured by.

HM AP used to be one of my go-tos. Now it's pretty much Story of Seasons, Rune Factory 4, Stardew Valley, or the Sims. I had mono a few years back and I couldn't get out of bed. I basically binge played Rune Factory 4 while sick for a month and it was really helpful!

Katamari Damaci is also pretty great and relaxing if you just want to be in bed and play something mindless. Oh, and Animal Crossing!

This won't apply to most people, but because it applies very much to me (a lot of games make me nauseated...actually Ni No Kuni II did, too, until I altered the camera not to follow some of the motions during character movement any more) I will mention that you should be aware that Katamari Damacy is known for being particularly bad for inducing head-nausea if you are susceptible to it. So if you're feeling sick to your stomach, any sort of game known for causing a sort of pseudo motion-sickness should be looked into with care. (The beautiful and peaceful game 'Flower' made me so sick that I had a 3 hour nap and still had a raging nauseating headache for hours after I woke up after playing that for an hour.)

However, the people that this applies to... I don't know an actual number but it's definitely a minority. Both of my sisters and I have it, though, to varying degrees. (Baby worst, middle sister least, and me in between.) So I'm familiar with it and mentioning it just in case. :)

We have all decided to cancel our applications to become astronauts with NASA.

Thanks for the recommendations, everyone! I really appreciate it. :D

Gosh maybe I'm alone but Katamari, as much as I love it, stresses me out. Time limits tend to do that for me. ^^; I didn't even think of Ever Oasis or Fantasy Life, so those are definitely good ones.

Just for the record, adding my own to the list in case someone come to the forums looking for the same thing:
Kairosoft games (iOS/Android)
Recettear (Steam)
Adventure Bar Story (iOS/Android/3DS)
Weapon Shop Fantasy (Steam)

Usually time limits stress me out too, but for some reason the music/visuals in katamari override my "AHH I'M BEING TIMED" reflex, haha.

I have Recettear and haven't gotten around to it - thank you for recommending it! I'll make a point to play it when I need a low-key game ^_^

It's funny, these are all great suggestions to help veg out when you're feeling bleh, but then there's me. I was sick all last week and instead of picking up something nice and relaxing, I picked up Splatoon 2 and stressed myself tf out trying to learn all of it's mechanics and stop getting my « Mr.Gourmet's hat » handed to me every match.

It did help me get my mind off being sick and all, but I dropped so many fbombs on my poor little Switch. I didn't mean it bby, ILU. (I'm also actually decent at Splatoon 2 now, so there's that!)

yu-gi-oh! duel links is pretty much the only game i play when i'm not feeling well. it's a mobile game, so i can play it with one hand while lying down, it doesn't limit how many legendary or online duels you can do so i don't have to stop playing when i run out of stamina, and it's a simplified version of the actual game so it doesn't take too much brain power and it's easy to fall asleep playing it

I started playing Love Nikki - Dress Up Queen back in January, and I've really liked it a lot so far. There're a bunch of Easter-themed events currently going on, too.

Bandai just recently released their My Tamagotchi Forever app, and that's been fun. Although, my first Tamagotchi ended up taking what must have been the least-cute line and ended up as Mametchi, who you already have unlocked from the beginning...

Any of the Kirby games. They're cute, not too hard, and always help me feel better.

If you have a Switch, Mario Odyssey was my guardian angel when I had the flu for 3 weeks
