Top 5 MOST-desired games

So, we've got loads of cool games coming this year, for various consoles. And a bunch of them are even sim/farming types of games, which is awesome. Switch seems to be coming out with new things the fastest, perhaps because Nintendo and other developers are going crazy with ports. Kind of a contentious topic...some people hate ports, especially if they own many consoles and have already played those games. Other people love them, probably especially if they never owned the console the game was on previously. But you can count ports in this if you want! You can also count games that have not yet got release dates or even official announcements, as long as they are as close to 100% certain of an eventual release.

I was going to say top game...just one choice...but that seemed too hard. So...what are your top 5 game-wishes in the next year? (So say from now until spring/summer 2019. Another LoZ game is already in development, for example, but there's no way that's gonna come out any time soon, so it doesn't count. It has to be a game with a timeline that is not torturous.) Mine are:

-Bokumono Switch (this comes in at #1 for one reason, and that is...I have GOT to see what art style they're going to go with now that they're moving to a new console! The anticipation burns...)
-Tales Of Switch...they've taken so long I now think it must be new, not a port. Though a remake of one I haven't played, like Vesperia, would be cool, too. But I would want a remake, not a port. I couldn't get into Symphonia because of the clunky old graphics, so it'd be a waste of time for me if it was a straight port. I thought there would be news about this already, but I really think there MUST be news at the Tales of Festival taking place in Japan at almost at the same time as E3 does in the US, this year.
-Animal Crossing Switch (I think we have a chance of getting this 2nd or 3rd quarter of 2019, with a very tiny chance of Holiday 2018.)
-Re: Legend. It looks like it'll be nice and polished. This could swap with the 5th place, depending on how it shapes up.
-My Time At Portia. They've added so much through updates, I have a good feeling about how involved I'll be able to get with this one.

Honorary mentions because I'm still trying to find out enough to determine my likelihood of falling for these games as hard as I like need to to make them top contenders, but when I do they could easily displace some of the above games:

-Ys VIII (Lacrimosa of Dana...Switch version) I know I want it, I just don't know if I'll end up loving it or not. This is one that I have more concerns that it may be a disappointment and molder on the backlog.
-The Lost Child I have for two decades been more interested in characters that appear to be in their twenties than ones that appear to be teens! Not sure about the gameplay, though. A little concerned as it reminds me of an SMT game, and I'm never able to get into those as they are just TOO battle-heavy, but I am very attracted to the characters, so far. Might show up at E3.
-Trails of Cold Steel III...that one would be on the list for sure if only I had any idea when it might come out. Been out in Japan for half a year so I'm hoping for a localization announcement any time, now. Might show up at E3.
-Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin It's in development and it's due out in Japan this year, and Xseed seems to be right on top of the localization, so...maybe a new peek at E3 2018? It has a little of the feel of RF4, which is great...I just don't know how much it can live up to that sort of vibe, yet.

Rune Factory
Fire Emblem Switch
Dragon Age 4
Pokemon Switch
Mass Effect game of some kind

At this point, I'm ready to make deals with demons to get the first two released, the last one will come but it's just a matter of praying EA doesn't « Snuggly Bunny » it over with EA shenanigans.

Well I'd say you're very likely going to get Fire Emblem and Pokemon Switch in the next year. :) Nintendo did go out of their way to say that they mean to have all of their major IPs have a game on each console (a policy they clearly flubbed with the Wii U and can't go messing up on with the Switch) and Pokemon Switch is already promised, just not outlined. I think we've got a pretty good chance of seeing it at E3 this year. Rune Factory...anybody's guess. Could be a lost cause by now, but Marvelous DOES know we want it, as Xseed has confirmed, and they did absorb most of the Neverland team, so it's not like it's impossible even now, though it obviously isn't a priority for them. :/

Can't comment on the other two because I know nothing about them at all.

I'll probably be 40 before another ME game comes out lmao. Ugh. It's also been almost 4 years since DAI, and with Laidlaw and Gaider having left Bioware, I'm super leery on DA4 whenever it comes out...but I'm still going to get hyped up because I'm hopeless lol

I'd give a kidney for another RF game, but I have a feeling it wouldn't/won't happen until after the new Bokumono switch happens :/

Man this is hard... so many games I'm looking forward to. Most of the games that are on the top of my list (Pillars of Eternity 2, etc) are coming out really soon so I won't list those. In no particular order:

Mineko's Night Market - Animal Crossing + Fantasy Life + Cats is my jam and I absolutely can't wait for the game to come out. One of the indies I'm most looking forward to by far in 2018.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night - I'm a huge Castlevania fan and I put a decent amount of money down when the Kickstarter happened. It's looking really good so far so I'm super excited to try out the next backer demo in June and get the official release date announced (fairly certain it'll be later this year or early 2019).

Ori and the Will of the Wisps - I absolutely adored Ori and the Blind Forest when I played it earlier this year, so I'm incredibly excited to see what the creators do with its sequel.

Dragon Quest XI - Last year I fell in love with DQ and ended up playing the majority of games in the series. This one looks so good, and even though we've had to wait for awhile for an announcement, I'm really happy it's coming later this year!

Ooblets - Looks so cheerful and fun and I've loved all of the previews I've seen of it. I love how many life simulation indies are doing really cool things.

In general it's harder for me to be excited about games that aren't officially announced/shown yet, so:
Animal Crossing Switch
Fire Emblem Switch
Bokumono Switch

are all in my runner up category, but I'm also very much excited for them.

Other runner ups:
Witchbrook - SDV meets Little Witch Academia, and I adore the pixel art. So excited for this, but the creators say it's a long way off.
Kynseed - Looks really amazing, and is by a bunch of former Fable developers so it has some great charm. It also has a very cool twist on life sims and generational plots. It should be hitting early access soon, so it'll probably be awhile before an actual full release.
Trails of Cold Steel III - Very much looking forward to it, but will get more hyped after the localization announcement happens.

I'm interested in Mineko's Night Market and Ooblets, too, but only if they end up coming to something other than PC/Mac. I know MNM is looking into consoles, but Ooblets may not be. I've seen loads of little shots and clips of Ooblets but it's one of those games I can't get a feel for, though the art style is kind of charming. It looks really aimless. Basically I keep seeing shots of the character dancing and that's about it, lol, other than occasionally walking around with little creatures in a queue, or possibly putting on a peculiar hat. I can't figure out what I'd be spending my time doing if I actually did get to play it. Basically I just can't quite figure out what the game is about.

I'll add it to my wishlist if it does ever come to one of my consoles, though.

Here's the description for it:

"Ooblets is a farming, town life, and creature collection game inspired by Pokémon, Harvest Moon, and Animal Crossing. Manage your farm, grow and train your ooblets, run a shop, explore strange lands, battle wild ooblets and other ooblet trainers, and unlock the mysteries of Oob."

It's basically a farming sim + pokemon

-Start life in a little rundown farm that you'll cultivate, improve, and customize
-Customize your character's clothing, hair style, and general look
-Battle wild ooblets and fellow ooblet trainers using a turn-based RPG battle system
-Explore a variety of locations across Oob, all with their own biomes, plants, characters, and unique ooblets
-Grow new friends by planting ooblet seeds that will blossom into baby ooblets
-Join an Ooblet Club that matches your personality
-Unlock new shops and buildings in town as you complete quests and explore
-Upgrade your house with new decor, furniture, and upgrades
-Run a shop selling the produce you've grown on your farm and any other junk you've scrounged up
-Level up your ooblets and unlock new moves through battles and feeding them crops you've grown on your farm
-Collect seeds, items, furniture, machinery, badges, and friends along the way

There are a slew of ports I want for the Switch, because i'm a greedy gus, buuuut I don't partake in port begging because it's annoying to devs + trying to get my hopes up for usually nothing. IE: I'd love Ooblets and Slime Rancher on my Switch, but both devs have stated there's no plans / they can't so ima' just let those lie and move on.

As for games that I know are coming out / could possibly exist one day, i'm looking forward to / hoping to see the following, the most.

Fire Emblem Switch

Lemme tell ya, as a fan of FE since it's early days of localization, it warms my heart to see it so popular now. The 'purists' of the series like to think Awakening and Fates have done the series a huge disservice, but heck, waifus or not, the games keep getting better and I looooove every new entry. FE is one of the few series that can make me squeal like a fangirl at reveal trailers, so i'm hoping E3 this year gives me something to make my voice crack lol.

Octopath Traveler

Ever since this game was revealed I've been clamouring to play it. I adore the whole retro yet new aesthetic going on with the graphics and the game mechanics. It tickles my nostalgia while balancing updated gameplay keeping me engaged. I also love that the job system is back, costume changes and all. It's been like, 26 years since FFV, and it's great to see this back in sprite form. Come soon July, I can't wait!

Dragon Quest XI - Switch Version

I have no idea what's going on with the Switch version of DQXI, but i'm willing to wait for it. Dragon Quest is very near and dear to me, and while I'll be green with envy when the PS4 and PC versions are out later this year, I can also be patient. There will be blood if I get spoiled tho, just sayin'.

Rune Factory 5

Marvelous, use the damn IP. The series was popular enough for six games and it's been 6 years since RF4. IDK what you're doing, but maybe stop putting so many damn resources into boob-ninja games for a minute. Or better yet, run Senran Kagura into the ground and kill it. I just want another freaking Rune Factory game, ugh. #bitter

The next Legend of Zelda

I'll be honest, i've never been a huge LoZ fan(despite playing most of its entries), but holy heck, Breath of the Wild was fantastic. I did everything in that game, and man, I want mooore. They've already confirmed development on a new title, and even though we probably won't see it until E3 2019, i'm pumped regardless.

Other than that, i'm lowkey excited for Dragon Quest Builders 2 (first one was fun) and whatever the next game GUST creates. They are waaay on the backburner though. Oh, I also want Snack World localized yesterday - it's toys, anime, and games, please. While we talking about localization, that Switch version of SaGa: Scarlet Grace better come West or I will riot.

Thanks Kirie :) It's funny how, no matter how many facts I know about Ooblets, I never feel like I really get a feel for it. I can't picture me moving a character around in that world and doing things there...don't know why.

I'm dying to know what is going to follow BotW, especially after hearing that the next game is already confirmed to be in development, but I didn't include it on my list because it could be five years (or even more, yikes) before we actually have it. I don't want to torture myself unduly so I only put up items that have a strong chance of being 'official' within the next year or close to that.

I wish they'd do something with Rune Factory again, too, but I don't have a lot of hope any more so I've stopped thinking about it.

I don't think I've ever played Dragon Quest. I've never liked the style of Toriyama when it comes to character art, so the look if it repelled me rather than drew me in...I think that's why I haven't played any of the games. My super narrow taste in art style always limits me even beyond my super narrow tastes in genres, lol.

I always mean to try a new FE game but I STILL haven't finished Awakening...even though I was actually really enjoying it and had just gotten to the stage where my characters were marrying each other. Strange game mechanic...hadn't seen it before. Really should finish it, some day.

I get the Toriyama art style thing. It's very much stuck in it's time, and it's very same-face. While I adore his art style (mainly because I grew up on his animes and games he designed characters for), I can always understand when people are off-put by it. The funny thing is, he really doesn't want to draw much anymore. He's old, he's tired. He gave the reigns of the Dragon Ball Super manga to Toyotarou (whom he's named his successor) and he gives Toei scripts for more material, but he only seems to draw anymore when Dragon Quest is involved - and the designs themselves can be very hit or miss.

They recently revealed the protagonist designs he did for Dragon Quest Builders 2, and they're kinda, well, bad. Especially compared to DB1's protag designs. I am his fan, and I do think he's got some good designs out there, but I think he's past trying sometimes. I'd say the DQXI designs are pretty 50/50 good-generic.

BUT, designs aside, Dragon Quest is THE classic RPG formula from days of yore, and there's hardly anything that hold a candle to it these days, consistently wise. I'm always happy to dive back into the series.

Noticed previously, btw, that you said 'Greedy Gus'. Which is a term I've never heard outside of my family before, lol, so it was cute. (I grew up listening to my mom use it. That and 'fiddlesticks!'...the closest my mom ever got to swearing...and 'heavens to murgatroid')

I watched Dragon Ball as well as DBZ as a teen (wow that dates me!) and I like the way he does big lumpy warriors well enough (I always liked Vegeta's design, and Goku is okay, too...most of the Z warriors were quite acceptable to me), but I don't like his style for anything else...women, children, animals, etc. Everyone's faces look sort of...squished vertically.

I haven't seen Dragon Quest Builders 2 style. I played the demo of the first game and intend to get it on the Switch eventually (the backlog blitz really is preventing me from buying anything I'm not hankering to play immediately), as probably the sequel eventually too, as long as my interest in the first game doesn't end up flagging once I actually own it. I actually think his style looks slightly better in 3D even though I don't normally like 3D much. The weird roundness of his style just sort of fits, with 3D, to me.

WHOOPS I meant the last statement towards DA4, not ME. Lord knows if we'll ever get a ME game again. @_@

Kynseed and Witchbrook look great.

I'm actually pretty nervous about DA4 as well. I do believe Patrick Weekes will do a great job with DA4, but with what little information we have on Anthem, EA getting a lot of bad publicity last year (MEA, Battlefront 2) and people just leaving left and right at BioWare I'm pretty nervous about DA4 and BioWare in total. I would love to have DA4 come to light, but it all seems to depend on Anthem's success, and BioWare has already said they feel SO much pressure on Anthem.

I would love a continuation of Mass Effect as well, but lord knows when we'll get it. Casey Hudson coming back is a good sign that it won't permanently die, but, again, it seems to depend on Anthem succeeding.

SORRY FOR THAT, MY LIST!

Re:Legend
My Time at Portia
Octopath Traveler
Vampyr
Banner Saga Trilogy on Switch

I find it a bit funny that four (technically six) of my most anticipated games coming this year are for the Switch. I would still love to have officially announcements for the following:

Dragon Age 4
Bokumono for Switch
Animal Crossing for Switch
Pokemon for Switch

Again, mostly Switch, lol. I would LOVE it if Dragon Age 4 came to the Switch! I doubt it would be able to handle it, but I just love the idea of taking my favorite game series on the go.

I hang around my grandparents too much. All of their saying and termanology are part of my vocab now! UwU

The graphics for DQB2 look more or less the same (from a tech demo last year) but the protag designs;
Spoiler:
Image
...Cowboy super saiyan? Somebody get a boy a comb! The girl is alright, but super basic. She looks like almost every other blond girl he's illustrated at the same time. The first game's designs we're a lot more thought out I feel, with the hood, goggles, and overall adventure looking garbs. Those kids looked like wayfaring adventures ready for anything. These kids looks like they're ready for nothing of the sort.

You're right...they look more like child models hired to wear 'western' clothing than they do people who actually belong in it. And the boy DOES look like he's on the verge of going Super Saiyan. :) Though it's nice to have the option to be a girl...I don't know if that option was available in the first game, because it wasn't in the demo (at least not that I found.)

I don't even know where 'Greedy Gus' came from originally, but this was my first time hearing someone younger than my parents saying it :) I suppose my parents might be nearly the same age as your grandparents. Generational thing, maybe? I think it's cute. Funny how none of them seemed to wear off on me. I never say Fiddlesticks or any of the things my mom says.

I hope E3 this year gives us at least little clips of a good portion of the games we're dying for confirmation of. Even if they don't FEATURE those games, I want to see something.
