I'm assuming Nightshade on Switch uses the same English translation as Nightshade on Steam, and there were no problems with it at all. :)

You're welcome! :)

Um...this is news, right? Ish? I'm actually not sure it's full-fledged news yet, tbh, that Squeenix has trademarked Collection of Mana in North America.

Your link confused me at first, Kikki, cause I was like uh, they already trademarked SoM, no? But clicking was a nice surprise, so thank you for sharing! I currently have the collection in Japanese on my Switch, but if it was localized, I would purchase it again in English in a heartbeat. It’s still ridiculous after all these years that SE localized the first two in the series (the first one was originally released as the FF Adventure on the Gameboy), but NEVER brought the third one over. I saved my PC file with the fan translation for YEARS now because it’s (to my knowledge) the only way to read the game in English at this time.

Oh sorry, that should have said 'Collection of Mana', not Secret of Mana. I'll correct it :)

Hopefully this is a trademark that actually bears fruit. I've really enjoyed the Mana series from what i've played (Sword, Legend, and Children), and i'd love to play some of the entries i've been unable to (especially the third game that was never localized that's included in the Switch collection).

Guess we'll wait for E3 and see what happens, eh?

I know several people here are intending to get AI: The Somnium Files, so here's a bit of news about the special edition of the game. I don't know that it's new, but I hadn't seen that trailer before, either. It actually looks really cute, if also kind of gross, lol.

Yes, it's very good :) It's my preference, though...more story-driven than romance-driven. I really liked the heroine, and it was often quite funny, particularly in the first half, between Emily and her butler. (Such a shame that Pendleton doesn't have his own route!) I didn't like Watson's route, but I really liked both Jack's and Lupin's, and everyone else's was interesting. Very high-quality localization that uses bits of accurate period dialogue.

Listening to Ai’s English voice cast is already grating on my ears (almost as bad as Barret’s English voice in the trailers for the FFVII remake... YUCK). Definitely going with the Japanese voice over for that one :(

Is Barret the one who sounded just like Mr. T? I pity da fool who has to listen to that for very long.

I didn't dislike all of the AI voices but I did think that Kaname (who looks handsome and intelligent) had a very 'hur-dur' sort of laugh. It was a bit of a strange trailer, though...the voice-over was...I'm not sure how to put it. It felt sort of forced, I guess. Did they say that Japanese voices would be an option? It's always nice to have a choice. :)

Yes, that was Barret. Although, I also listened to the Japanese trailer for the FFVII remake and the Japanese VA sounded just as exaggerated as well for him (in that super short clip anyway), so it might not be able to be helped in that case.

Ai’s English voice cast sounded too forced and bright for what I’m imagining the game’s setting will be like. Maybe it’s ME who is in the wrong, and that kind of exaggerated, forceful, almost cheerful voice work is what they want in the title... but anyway yes, I looked at the official website and it does list both English and Japanese as options, so yay!

Honestly, his laugh was my favorite part. It sounded like one of those ugly laughs that you don't expect and that's what made it hilarious and feels real, at least in that clip.

And honestly I thought the voice acting was great. The only voice I remember not liking was Iris' from a previous trailer.
Spoiler:
I think one thing that is a little jarring is that the game clips released switches between camp/humor/goofiness and serious/deadly plot stuff. The beginning literally has the protag yelling "forklift! Fork over that weapon!" The "enemy" is shown as a polar bear, who stabs a kid (who seems to have some kind of hero fantasy) and is trying to saw a girl in half.

Even at the very design level you have really solid/beautiful/serious character designs like Datr, Aiba, etc. And then you have comical/goofy looking characters like the kid and (I think) his mother. Iris herself looks like a weird mesh of two concepts, although I personally dislike her design.

Tl;dr - I believe it's meant to be jarring/surreal both on a superficial level and within some subtextual level.

Well, the game is made up of a lot of what are essentially dream/subconscious memory sequences that you have to sift the truth out of, so it's bound to get weird and even discordant at times. And it's a bit weird that Date's artificial eye has it's own artificial intelligence personality in it. The whole thing is coming across as goofy as it is gory, now. I'll be curious to hear people's impression of it after actually playing it.

EDIT: I normally wouldn't bother with announcements of otome games coming out in Japan, but because this batch of announcements includes games that have already been localized in English and are available on PC and/or Vita and are now going to be made available on Switch in Japan, I think it's a bit more likely that we may eventually get the ports, too. So here's some news on some Otomate games.
