New and tentative game announcements
That's terrible about remasters and limited editions. It just means for me that I will be buying less games for day 1 release. We shop for A LOT of household type things and other things on Amazon, so for us, the Prime membership pays for itself with the free shipping alone since we probably place at least 10 orders a month. I also regularly use Prime Video. But being a gamer, that limitation on preorders really does hurt
I never place orders below $35 anyway so shipping is always free for me even without Prime. And it only takes about a day longer to get to me, most times, so the extra little bit of speed is not worthwhile either.
I can't justify it any more...I no longer get my money back in savings, let alone surpass it, as I used to. It costs $79 per year for me. The only savings I get from them now is 10% off of (some) pre-orders. I'd have to place $790.00 worth of eligible pre-orders to make my money back, and I don't even get very close to that. Back when it was 20% off not just pre-orders but also new releases, it was totally worth it. It's not remotely worth it for me, now.
If I come across a game that can still have a discount through Amazon Prime, I'll order it through my dad's account (I pay for it, of course, not him, lol.) as I have done for four or five games this year. Otherwise I'm buying my games elsewhere.
Playstation Network appears to be having a Mid-Year Sale right now, btw, up to 50% off, 60% if you have their gold membership or whatever it's called. I wish Nintendo had an eshop discount program. The My Nintendo Rewards are really lackluster.

Off topic: I will be using that prime discount after all. The yakisoba ramen they stopped selling in grocery stores can be bought in bulk on Amazon. *drool*
Back on topic: I'm interested in the new Mercenaries Saga game they're teasing. I really wanted to like the other games, but slow combat + no overworld map kinda killed it for me. If you're gonna make a FFT clone, make it a good one! If they fix those two problems, i'll buy it day one.

I like Dragalia Lost's Dragons, so far. Those designs are nice. I don't know what the game is, though. I mean, the platform is mobile/tablet, but...is it a full game or is it one of those awful free-in-name-but-you-have-to-pay-to-do-anything-really-fun games? I'm okay with fully paid games on mobile, though it's still not a liked platform for me.
But if it's high quality I'm sure I can't play it...I couldn't have Egglia as it required...I don't know, Eggplant 5.0 or Striped Pudding 5.0 or whatever silly thing they're calling Android OSes these days. Lollipop? Jellybean? Pineapple Upside-down Cake? I'd have to look up my specific tablet again to remember the edible-item name, but I know I had too low a number and I can't download upgrades to my OS. Bleh.
Also, Nintendo is dropping mean little promises of more game announcements for games to come out for the holidays...but no details!
NEXT DAY EDIT: Hmm, potentially a completely customizable difficulty mode for XC2? That's...kind of unusual.
And Taiko Drum Master is probably going to get a Western release.
EDIT 2: I can't let this one go by. So far it's only a Japanese title so it's not for me, yet, but the minute I saw 'town building title', I knew I had to at least make proper note of it
Also, Caligula Effect: Overdose was announced by NISA to be coming out in 2019. And hey, Valthirian Arc: Hero School Story sounds interesting. That's another one I'll keep an eye out for when it comes to Switch. A console management game is appealing and I like the colourful graphics but I'd like to see more...

@Bluie
Yessss I'm excited for Caligula especially since it's on the switch and they added a female protagonist! I've also been watching Princess Guide for a bit although idk if I'll actually get it.
Also Zanki Zero released today! It doesn't have an english release date yet but here the announcement video link

Yesss, female protag is such a bae. One of the things I really like about this remake (besides FeMC) is you can side with the villains for a different story. Heck, I'll probably do it first as I just finished the anime and I liked a lot of the villains for their designs and I like their weapons better.
As for Princess Guide, it's using the same engine as Penny Punching Princess, but it's no longer a frantic beat em' up. It looks more organized and more character driven as PPP was just silliness. I'll definitely be picking Monomaria as yellow is my favourite color and she looks the best. Man, the LE is just beautiful.
Also, Kiki, don't wana be a downer, but it's unlikely that the town building Sumikko Gurashi game is going to get localized. This is (I think) the 4th game for them (2 on 3DS one other on Switch) and besides their plushies showing up in Hot Topic (I have one of the bear) I don't think the creators really care about selling the Sumikko Gurashi franchise outside of Japan. HOWEVER, the Sumikko Gurashi are very simple and easy to feel your way through with little to no Japanese comprehension. If you really wanted it, you could use a translation app on a phone to help you if you get stuck.
Valthirian Arc: Hero School Story has certainly caught my eye as well. Reminds me a lot of the Crystal Chronicles DS and Wiiware games.

That's okay, though, I'm not too upset, for two reasons. One is that as soon as I saw it, I figured it wasn't the sort of game likely to get localized. It looks intensely niche. But the other is that the art style, while really cute, is actually not to my taste...it is overly simplistic and looks like it was intended to appeal primarily to grade-school kids. If I want cute, I'd rather have something like Ever Oasis or Ooblets or Animal Crossing...very cute, but a more sophisticated level of it, imo. If that makes sense. Not Dora the Explorer level of cute.
Though if it HAD been localized, just the fact that it has town-building in it would have made me take a serious look at it. Town-building games that have a story or sense of community are really rare. Most builders are like Sim City or mobile games like Township. They don't really have characters or a story any deeper than a piece of paper.
It's kind of cool that Valthirian Arc is by an Indonesian developer. The looks are pretty good (definitely colourful!) and it has some of the sim features I like along with what may be optional going out to battle...and there appears to be a story in there, too. Definitely keeping it on my list. And CEO (huh) has nice graphics and it sounds like it has interesting story options so I've been interested in it since I first discovered it existed (which was only a month or two ago and thanks to this thread, I believe.) Also staying on my list until I can make a firm decision after I've seen enough videos and so on.
Not a bad day for gaming news. I don't always get to add two new games to my watchlist, let alone near the top of it
I guess this is thanks to AX...NISA probably announced those in conjunction with that.
Dragon Marked For Death is to be out this winter on Switch. (Another announcement courtesy of AX.) I hate side-scrollers so that one's not for me but I can't remember if anyone else spoke of any interest in it. I've heard so much of dragons this year that I'm getting them confused at this point.

Since there are a lot of VN fans here, it might be worth mentioning that YU-NO: A Girl Who Chants Love at the Bound of this World is going to be localized/released for PS4 and PC. Weird title...time-consuming to write out. Not my thing, though, probably even without the 18+ rating. (Dunno if that's the rating for this version, but probably.)
And the Zero Escape people are doing a new game, announced at AX. AI: The Sominum Files...apparently a detective adventure. That I'm more interested in, as it sounds slightly more like Ace Attorney (which I love and wish they would hurry up and announce the next new one!) According to the article this is the same game that was teased at Game Developers Conference last year. It has great looks...I'm pretty interested. Unless it turns out to be rated beyond what I'm comfortable with. (Mind you, the Ace Attorney games are rated M and they're very tame and comfortable. But I read up on Zero Escape and found it kind of disturbing, so...)
I've never seen this many VNs come out at once as I've seen this past season or so. Maybe I just wasn't paying attention before.

Thanks for posting the more in-depth details at the link! I should have included it in my post above.
His games are violent and graphic, and if you're adverse to horror I'd say it's probably best to steer clear of the Zero Escape trilogy. No idea if this is going to follow suit, but considering it's about a serial killer, my bets are definitely yes.

So excited to hear about another series from Uchikoshi! And i absolutely second Ropes's advice to steer clear of of their games, Kikki. I am dead certain you would not like them. Definitely keep an eye on the new title if you wish on the off chance it's not like Zero Escape, but I would be surprised if it wasn't.
Nice new colours, Blue Rose...I've never seen anyone use that shade of red before
And...lol. I'm sorry, Kirie. You know, I didn't even notice you'd mentioned the game right before me, even though I did see your post. Read the first sentence properly, then saw Uchikoshi (999/VLR/ZTD and had no idea what that meant and thought it was the name of a game I'd never heard of, lol, and my brain seemed to skip the rest.
But thanks, guys...it's nice to know there are still people will tell me 'No no no...this is NOT the game for you, you won't like it.', lol. I used to have people around who'd flap their arms at me to shoo me away from things they knew I'd totally hate before I wasted my money or made myself sick, but that was a long time ago. It's kind of nice, being so predictable
I absolutely love the art of AI: Somnium Files, so I'll probably keep looking at whatever articles I see on it until it launches, but I also think that if it's by the Zero Escape guy, it won't suit me. I was attracted to Zero Escape because it got so much praise as a story, but when I looked into it, my response was BLECK! The story did sound interesting, but not to the point where it'd be worth feeling nauseated over, heh. I assume that this story will be quite different, but that they'll want to play to the market they've already built, so the overall experience will likely be similar.
I did see see an article by Gematsu though that contains a video where you can get a look at the other protagonist, Iris.
...
With all the news of Etrian Odyssey X going around, I see it's their last one for 3DS. Which I assume means they're aiming for Switch from then on...but I wonder how they'll handle the mapping with no second screen.
Also, there's another article about Nelke. It only contains a tiny bit of info I hadn't already seen...basically a picture of a bagel burger that doesn't look tasty at all...but I reeeeally want that game, so I'm looking at everything that comes up for it.

Nelke is so peppy and cute! I will be so salty if they decide to skip it over here.
So, another VN is getting localized, this one called Island. It has a currently airing anime that I was planning on eventually watching, but I might hold off on it now. More info on the game:

I love that the miko girl's hair is just this unkempt mini afro.
