Like the training of students give you a lot of potential for stuff and the fact they took away the weapon triangle just makes it a bit too...easy at times. At least compared to previous games. I've had to wind back (and restart only once) a few times but not nearly as much as I was expecting.

The hardest part is definitely just your limited resources, though. Limited moneyss. And that certain spells have a cap use per battle.
Haha yes, I feel like it took me the first couple of chapters to get into it, but now I got a groove of how to go around and make proper use of exploartion/seminars/battles, which has made chapters 5 and 6 a bit easier for me. I still restart once or twice if a character dies. I know I have it on casual, but when they die in the beginning or midway in the battle, I feel like they lost out on precious EXP.

I loved reading about your Golden Deer experience. It was honestly such a toss up between BG and GD for months before I saw the entire teams, so GD is my next house in my future play through. Claude is just an awesome character.

Honesty, I probably would've gone for BL first if Claude wasn't the #1 husbando on release for me.

Also, some general tips I'm gonna list for folks if you just got the game or are still ??? Cause while they do tell you, they kind of tell you all at once and it's hard to remember/gets overwhelming.
Spoiler:
1.) Reclassing does not reset your level. You are free to promote/reclass with no repercussions. At most it might just be a bit expensive if your on hard.

2.) However, mastering each class does give you an ability, so it is recommended to at stick around to mastering it if you can.

3.) But, because later tier classes give better growth rates, it's recommended to just promote asap and probably skip most of the beginner classes. However, if you want to go back to beginner class for whatever reason, I'm pretty sure your "skill progress" won't be lost nor will you lose anything in level or anything.

4.) Certifications for entry to certain classes is pretty much dependant on the mastery of various skills. That's what you're individually teaching the students. Once they hit the requirements, they're available for the examinations.

5.) You need the seals for the examinations, though, which is kind of story-locked for the higher ones. Basically you can't jump into the master class too soon.

6.) It's important to keep motivation for students high. You can see their motivation level with the "smiley icons." Things like asking out to tea, eating meals with them, and possibly cooking with them increase motivation and also support bonds. Higher motivation allows more individual instructing/training time that allows them to jumpstart in their progress on specific skills. They will naturely progress based on their goals + using it in battle, but instructing allows more of a jump start.

7.) Byleth's own expertise in skills also influences the rate of skill growth for the student, not to mention higher levels are the requirement for recruiting other-house students. So it's important to focus on your own character as well. Other professors can help Byleth with that.

8.) Making efforts to increase affection with characters from other houses (gifts, returning lost items, correct answers to stuff, eating meals with, asking out to tea, choir, and cooking with) can also reduce the level of requirements for poaching/recruiting. So while it's important to keep your own students motivations high and focus on them, that's also something you can do if you want to recruit specific characters.

9.) Fishing and gardening doesn't count as a "timed" activity. It is however, limited in how many times you can do it per month. Whenever bait is available, I'd fish. Plant/harvest whenever you can, etc. I believe those things are used specifically for cooking certain meals (and cooking in general), which gives stat boosts to your team for the next battle.

10.) Look out for blue/purple sparklies. That's opportunities to give gifts or return lost things for further affection boosts. It can also be opportunities to add extra EXP to your
"Professor" skill, which allows more stuff you can do in a "exploration" time period.
Hopefully this helps. Honestly the combat isn't hard, it's pretty streamlined. It's just the matter of micromanaging stuff.

I was really rooting for him to be m/m support :( I did have tea with him, and if that wasn't a scene that came straight out of a boys love manga, I don't know what is.

Great tips by the way for those getting into the game. I actually didn't know it be more conducive to promote a bit quicker than in past iterations of the games. Honestly, leveling up in this game isn't as bad either. I feel like one battle a month and the one mission has given me more than enough EXP for my team. (Except poor Caspar is trailing behind because he's a little squishy under my own personal tutelage.)

Also, the support scenes in this game are marvelous. They really took their time in making the characters on your team feel like they are a living part of this world.

Honestly, he or Dimitri could've been easily m/m options. Especially since Byleth is a silent protagonist. It's very frustrating.

Regarding the promotion, you probably don't have to, but it may get harder to manage if you over-maximize some of the lower classes for too long vs the higher ones if only because they have better growth rates and the beginning ones just (probably) won't cut.

And yeah, it's pretty easy all things considering. There was one time I accidentally picked a much higher training battle and was panicking cause of the steep lvl increase, but the actual chapter battle for that month was a lot lower, so...lol.

K, I've put a lot of time into my file so far, but i'm meticulous with FE games, so I haven't gotten to the timeskip yet. I'm just about to the ball, but it seems I can't have an event with Hanneman. His A rank seems to be locked right now, and i'm going to guess I can't continue it until the timeskip or a certain event happens.

I have shoved many owl feathers at him and had several tea times (plus having him teach me + getting support in battle) and yeah, nothing. Minorly frustrating, but I guess I can either skip the event of just go with Raphael for for « Cow Poopies » and giggles.

If any of you have been supporting Hanneman or have any info on my problem here, i'd appreciate any info!

All A and S supports are locked until post-skip. He isn't the only one, it's by design to make sure there is content for post-skip. So until then I'd just look at other supports.

How are you guys doing on character recruitment? I have kind of given up the dream of recruiting all of them, and will focus on the select few that I really want. I'm at Chapter 7 at this point, and I'm close to recruiting a couple of them. But raising their support levels and my levels while keeping my students motivated has been a challenge.

I'm ignoring the other house students my first playthrough. Now that I'm gaining the professors and knights into my ranks, I already have too many units to manage rn. Next playthrough I might nab one of my favourites from Golden Deer into my Blue Lions run, but eh, we'll see.

Makes sense. Honestly, there is so much character building with one's own students that it's hard to manage. I have a list of 7 of them I would like, but this first play through might also just be me figuring out the main mechanics of the game.
Spoiler:
I finished the Ingrid paralogue last night, and oh my lanta, I LOVE HER. She needs to be on my team.

I read over at reddit that B-supporting them will help you a lot with recruitment except with three students so far who has their B support is locked until after timeskip. Once they reached B rank, they will ask you themselves to join your class. Also, multiple students could ask you in a month so you don't need to sacrifice your time with seminars much.

I'm currently torn between recruiting them all versus recruiting a handful to be honest. The major reason why I want to recruit them all are even though I'm not going to use them all, I just don't want to face them after the timeskip and Blue Lions route is my main playthrough so I want it to be near my HC as possible.

I feel you on that, especially since the Black Eagle route is my main play through. However, it got a bit too stressful with recruiting all, so I'm just aiming for the some that I actually like. I'm on Chapter 8 now, and nearing the end of my time with 0 recruits. It's hard to get them to B level supports too since I'm spread thin trying to do other activities for my house and Byleth. Oh well. Maybe it is not meant to be for this play through.

Oh wow, and just like that, I recruited both Sylvian and Lysithea. I also got Ingrid to support level B, but apparently, she has to come and ask to join my house. All that's left is Mercedes, Ashe, and Ignatz. The rest of the characters I'm kind of meh on. Felix would have been cool though.

Also, I have been trying to keep cool over the lack of m/m supports, but the fact that Ashe, Ignatz, nor Claude are options is super infuriating.
