I relate so much lol I was cleaning my bookmarks yesterday and saw I had bookmarked An Octave Higher. I checked it out and saw it was on sale on Steam at $1.5 hah;;

I ended up buying Moonlighter instead of preordering YIIK, because I can't see Moonlighter dropping any further for awhile and I want to play it. YIIK comes out pretty close to Tales of Vesperia, so i'm probably fine on holding off for a bit. It'll be my next purchase regardless, unless something else in my wishlist magically goes on sale. Said wishlist is now:

Forgotten Anne
Celeste
Dust: An Elysian Tail
Iconoclasts

And it will only grow with the sheer amount of indies set for 2019 that I know i'll want. I hope we get a solid date for VA-11 HALL-A on Switch. I feel like i've been waiting since forever to play that game.

I'm in a somewhat similar position. The sale on Earthlock on Switch will be over today. I know I'm going to get it eventually, and it's 50% off right now, so it seems sensible to get it, wasteful if I don't. But I have no desire to play it right now, so at the same time it also seems wasteful to go ahead with the purchase. I'm actually okay even if I have to wait until this time next year for it to go on sale at this level again...it's not high on my priority list.

Guess we'll see by the end of today if I went through with the purchase or not, but atm I'm thinking I won't bother and will just wait until the next time it's on at 50% off since I'm not feeling any impulse to play now. As time goes by it may go on even steeper sales, I suppose.

These days I'm only willing to pay full price on games I really want to play right away. Though I may buy Cake Laboratory at full price as it is only $3.99. If I get it, it won't go onto my backlog, as it's the kind of game I'd only ever play casually, not with the intention of 'finishing'.

Not making any progress on Night in the Woods right now, but I may play today. I'm got the inspiration to write, though, which always has more priority when it strikes.

If it makes you feel better, Earthlock goes on sale pretty often. You and I both are on the same eShop, and i've seen it go down to its current price at least four times in 2018 (probably more). It's defs a very high sale candidate, so wouldn't doubt it being back in the sale list in a month or so. This the the first time Moonlighter has gone on sale so i'm snapping it up, because everything else in my wishlist never seems to go on sale in our region.

Thanks Bluie; yeah. I was pretty sure I had seen Earthlock on sale before this, though I didn't think it was 50% off. (Not gonna argue, though, as I didn't pay close enough attention to be confident.) I think it will go on a good sale again before a full year has passed, too.

I am currently considering scooping Ys SEVEN back outta the abandoned bucket. After hearing about the upcoming Ys IX (sounds awesome, I want it), and knowing that SEVEN is the next closest game in world chronology to VIII, and should be right before IX, AND it's the most story-driven of all Ys games prior to VIII...I'm thinking maybe I should make the effort to play it this year after all. I did like what I played, I just don't want to deal with my Vita any more than I need to, at this point. But I think I probably should go through with playing SEVEN after all.

Giving slight consideration to PC version of SEVEN since Xseed much improved the PC port, and even my computer can run it pretty well. Hrm. Tremendous dislike of using my laptop for gaming versus high preference for more attractive and smoother visuals and audio. Tough choice.

The backlog I'm bringing into 2019:
Spoiler:
PS4:
Dark Souls II
Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age
Final Fantasy XV
Persona 5 (I'm on the second to last palace, I really need to just power through this)
Pyre
Soma (likely to go unfinished since it's a PS Plus game and my subscription is running out pretty soon)
The Witcher 3

Switch:
LoZ: Breath of the Wild

PC:
Fallout 4
Subnautica
There are so many games I'd love to buy while they're on sale right now but I'm forcing myself to just wait it out and play what I already own and have barely touched... That said I still bought Red Dead Redemption 2, which I'm playing right now, and Fallout 4 for PC because the GOTY edition was like $16 USD and I couldn't help myself. Subnautica was free on the Epic Games launcher so I picked that up too, it genuinely terrifies me though so I'm not sure I'll be able to make any significant progress toward beating it lol.

There's not a ton of games coming out next year that I know I'm dying to play asap so I'd really like to finally finish at least some of these! Particularly Persona 5 and The Witcher 3, I've started and stopped both of them over and over.

Platinum trophy London Detective Mysteria! If anyone is interested in a quick common route save that will lead to each individual path easily, THIS GUIDE is extremely helpful.

Minor spoiler on route structure/unlocking content below.
Spoiler:
To get the grand ending, you need to do each destined and ill-fated ends for all 5 boys, both charmed ends and another ending that's referred to as Baker Street Boys ending. Missing that inherits common route save that sets you up to place yourself on a specific path saves a lot of time. It only took me about 3 hours to do ALL the other endings (I only completed the destined ends up to that point).

Urgh, I thought that might be the requirement for the 'True End'...finishing EVERY end including the bad ones. I just am not interested in the bad ends, so I'm gonna skip the True End. Read about it and it doesn't sound as fun as the individual path ends anyway.

It's been a while, Backlog Thread!
I didn't make as much progress as I might've liked in my backlog in 2018. I had a rough year in a lot of respects and ended up not playing games as much, in particular, the big long RPGs that are starting to really pile up.
But here's my stats!
Spoiler:
Completed:
Avalon Code (DS)
Dragon Ball Fusions (3DS)
Dragon Quest Builders (PS4)
Fire Emblem Fates: Revelations (3DS)
Mario Odyssey (Switch)
Miitopia (3DS)
Slime Rancher (PC)
Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns (3DS)
Splatoon 2 + Octo Expansion (Switch)
Style Savvy: Styling Star (3DS)

Total: 10

Some of these games have been waiting a long time for my to finish them. Avalon Code I never saw myself going back to, but picking it up again, the things that used to annoy me so badly from before, didn't seem as bad the second time around. Still a very flawed game, but I'm glad I went back to it, as it was also incredibly unique and colorful. :)

And I'm also glad to be done with FE Fates once and for all. Got burned out before and never finished that third route. The gameplay is still a blast, and I like most of the characters alright, but I hated the story. There were some moments that stand out to me as truly entertaining, and there was a lot of potential, but LORD did they waste it all somehow. Fingers crossed Three Houses is better in that department. I know some people think Awakening had a mess of a story but I actually loved it. I don't need a perfect story. Just... not « Harvest Goddess » awful.

Still on the Backlog:

Cattails (PC)
Fire Emblem Warriors (Switch)
Spyro Reignited Trilogy (PS4)
Summon Knight 6 (PS4) (Might have to bench this one though, not sure yet.)
Verdant Skies (PC) (Might bench this too, but I think I was close to done, so maybe I'll just finish it.)
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (Switch)
Dragon Age Inquisition (PS4)
Dragon Age Origins (PC)
Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Wii U)
Tales of Xillia (PS3)
Tales of Xillia 2 (PS3)
Tales of Graces (PS3)
Tales of Zestiria (PS4) (Miiiiight bench this one? I only played a few hours but didn't like it much. :<)
Tales of Berseria (PS4)
Trails in the Sky (PC)
Trails in the Sky SC (PC)
Seventh Dragon III Code VFD (3DS)
Battle Chef Brigade (Switch)
Digimon World: Next Order (PS4)
Etrian Odyssey 5 (3DS)
Etrian Odyssey Untold 2 (3DS)
Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Switch)
Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask (3DS)
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (3DS)
Mass Effect Andromeda (PS4)
Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon (3DS)
Telltale's Walking Dead: New Frontier (PC)
Xenoblade Chronicles (3DS)
Xenoblade Chronicles X (Wii U)
Yokai Watch 2: Bony Spirits (3DS)

Total: 30

There's also a mysterious game labeled "S". I think I must've deleted the title on accident at some point, so I don't know what this is referring to. P: Can't remember...
Well, as you can see, my backlog is still a bit of a monster. Man, having only gotten a PS3 recently, those Tales games I was never able to play before have now really piled up... Deep breaths.

On top of that, for Christmas, I got three new games!
Dragon Quest XI, Ni No Kuni 2, and Sushi Strikers!
The last of those shouldn't take me long. Just a fun and upbeat puzzle game to fiddle around with, which I think I'll enjoy a lot. Reminds me of Puzzle and Dragons, which I also really liked. The first two though... Oi. What was I thinking, putting them on my wishlist? So many lenghty RPGs. But I started Ni No Kuni today and I only played about an hour, but it's really sucking me in already. It's so beautiful. I love Studio Ghibli, so that's a no brainer... I'm really liking it. I hope I can get back to sitting down and really digging into these RPGs. It's been a while since I've been able to do that. Dunno why, either...
Whelp. I'm looking forward to another year of digging myself out of this wonderful pit of games I've fallen into, with all of you to chat with all the while.
Best of luck to everyone and their backlog endeavors in the new year!

Well, Moonlighter is very fun. I'm trying to understand why the Switch Reddit kept crapping all over the game every time it was brought up. Great for pick up and play, simple mechanics, and beautiful artstyle.

I'm gonna balance it along with Labyrinth of Refrain, as i'm putting Rain World aside for now (because it's very, very difficult - even on easy mode, and I don't have the patience rn). I'll get back to it, because I do want to play it.

I'm also still working away on Drum n' Fun. I have a bad habit of only wanting to play my favourite songs, so i've been using the 'random' button to kinda 'force' myself to play everything else. No rush, but still, it helps.

Picked up Asdivine Cross, Machine Knight, and Symphony of Eternity. I’ve got a soft-spot for genetic JRPGs. If I already know exactly what to expect going in, there’s no way for me to be disappointed!

Fair enough. I honestly felt the same way you did, but then I was bored, so I figured I would do some extra endings. Then once I had that common route save set up, it was going by so fast I just ended up going all the way lol.

I may still go for the Kobayashi end though, so thanks for the link :) (I stopped playing after getting all the 'destined' endings and Marple's ending once I realized I didn't actually care about the 'true' ending, so I hadn't gotten Kobayashi's.)

Luckily my backlog consists of one game!

Finally got around to starting Ni no Kuni II (thank you for mentioning that Ehppy, somehow it prods me on to hear somebody else is playing. A glass of wine with dinner was also good fuel). Kind of hoping I don't cave to any sales just yet...I'm still swamped between work and personal projects.

There is YIIK for January though - saw it on Twitter and I laughed out loud and so that's that. Doubt I'll finish Ni no Kuni before then but hey, that's still not bad. :)
