Backlog 2019

Since I managed to wrap up Last Day of June and Night in the Woods, I now have nothing to play until Jan 11 (or whenever my copy of Vesperia actually arrives...it's SUPPOSED to arrive on release day, but Amazon.ca is not all that reliable with promises of 'release day delivery'.) Nothing after it, either, unless one of my 'tentative early 2019' games comes out sooner than I thought (Portia or Mineko)...but I doubt that. So I don't have to rush Vesperia, anyway! I'm currently occupying my time by trying out the Wii version of Xenoblade Chronicles (the first one) and the graphics ARE a bit nicer and I like it on my TV screen, so having more fun than I'd have thought for a third or fourth replay.

Are we going to have a Vesperia thread? So many of us are getting it day one, iirc, that I just wondered. I know it's an old game, but I've never played it before or even had anything spoiled for me. I know some of the character's names and that's it! Is anyone else in that situation, or is this just a replay for the rest of you guys? (Cuz if it is, I assume we won't need a dedicated 'Tales of Vesperia' thread. Unless the new content will provoke enough discussion to warrant it, I guess.)

ToV: DE will be a total replay for me, but it will be refreshing since I imported the PS3 version and had my face stuck in a translation website roughly every 30 seconds I can't wait to spend time again with Yuri and Flynn!

EDIT: I just remembered Yuri got a new voice actor for the new content only. This makes me a bit irritated, but at least in what little footage is out there, Grant George at least sounds similar to Troy Baker...

Oxenfree was on sale for the holidays, so I got it for PS4 and have been playing it some. I'm liking it, though it's kind of raising my anxiety--not from the horror elements, but from the teen drama, lol.

I got married to Slip and I only need one more gem in Cattails! Slip also asked me if I wanted kittens and I said yes.

I also rebought Undertale and Dust: An Elysian Tail for Switch. My first SD card for Switch is officially full with 38 games installed. I'm going to need to bust out the 200GB one once Vesperia comes out.

Another one I won't be playing for awhile, but i'm glad it went on sale so I could pick it up at a good price. I'm going to skip picking up Dust tho, because after watching some gameplay, it really hurts my eyes. Not really sure why or if it's just my oversensitivity rn due to my cold, but it's just not something I'm planning on picking up anymore. With Celeste, I realized it's really not my type of game - even with the assist mode on, so i'll be skipping it unless someone drops it into my lap. So, my wishlist is pretty much Forgotten Anne and Legrand Legacy until the 2019 indie gravy train starts. No rush though, I have so much to play! As of right now:

-Moonlighter (20% done - gonna try to get it done before Tales of Vesperia)
-Labyrinth of Refrain (10% done, maybe? I'll be getting back to it after ToV)
-Captain Toad Treasure Tracker (Haven't started)
-Iconoclasts (Haven't started)

-Rain World (1% done because i'm so bad at it)

Probably not gonna include Drum n' Fun on my backlog anymore because I just kinda pick at it now and then.

All right, I finished Cattails! I have four kittens and I started customizing my colony, but I think I'm at a good place to just play a different game. Time to move on to Atelier Rorona: The Alchemist of Arland!

Holy crow, Shortybread...you just won the prize for having the highest number of really fun games to complete. That list looks like candy to me. Admittedly, you're winning this prize with me as the sole judge. I love Ace Attorney, Trio of Towns, RF4, BotW, and DQB, and really like FE: Awakening and Battle Chef Brigade. Normally when people show their backlogs, I barely know what half of the games *are*, lol, but yours is stuffed with things I've already played and was super into. Even the ones I haven't played are ones I have heard of and sound like cute, fun games.

Haha, well thank you! :'D My secret to finding really fun games is just waiting for everyone else to play them before me and having them tell me if they're good LOL. I haven't started Ace Attorney yet, but I'm having a great time with Trio of Towns so far!
And from what I've played of RF4, BotW, DQB, Battle Chef Brigade and FE:A I adore them all. <3 Just need to find the time to actually play them all, haha~
I can tell you've got good taste in games, though! ^^ I noticed you're also looking forward to the Tales of Vesperia : Definitive Edition, which is another game I loved but never got around to finishing, haha. I would have a handful of Tales games on my backlog too, but I always play them with my sister, and she's got quite a backlog as well so I'm not sure when I'll be able to tackle them. Always been a favorite series of mine, though!

Progressing nicely in Atelier L&S. Bought the swimsuit dlc because it was actually less ridiculous and easier on the eyes than what they were originally wearing. ._.

So far I'm enjoying Atelier Rorona; the game is making me laugh. The voice acting helps; their delivery with dialogue is spot on. So far, I'm at the start of Year 2, so I'm about 1/3 done with the game. I will definitely continue with this series.

So in my quest to buy new games when I really shouldn't and just play the games I just got, I bought Atelier Sophie ~The Alchemist of the Mysterious Book~ today at GameStop and I wishlisted the Dusk series and the other two Mysterious games on my PSN account. I also preordered Atelier Lulua ~The Scion of Arland~ and Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes. I meant to preorder One Piece World Seeker as well, but I forgot. I'll just do it when I pick up Tales of Vesperia Definitive Edition next week.

So I think I mentioned that in the absence of anything new to play (don't feel like working on old backlog games right now...but then, if I did feel like it, they wouldn't be backlogged, would they?) I'm replaying Xenoblade Chronicles (the original) for the 3rd or 4th time, particularly because I had never tried the Wii version of the game before. They made the original Wii version available on the Wii U after a while and I got it but never checked it out, but did so of boredom a few days ago.

I'm having way too much fun for a replay. I guess I just love this game that much. And it's SO beautiful, this world. But it's also reminded me that Nopon are crazy. They're content to let you, a relative stranger visiting their hometown, make massive life decisions for them! I'm talking choosing their career, their successor...the person they MARRY. Things like that. A few other people in the world ask your advice on who they should date, but nobody is as happy to hand over their entire life course to a casual acquaintance as the Nopon.

Having fun, anyway I've got to get back to trying to gather a bunch of somewhat rare milk teeth from Vangs (bats!) in a hard-to-reach cave with no immediate transport site. :/

@Kikki: I have the 3DS version in my backlog. I can't wait to start playing it after I've gone through so many other games first, lol.

I think I'm not halfway through Rorona, so I'm pretty confident I can beat it before Tales of Vesperia comes out.

Would Atelier Shallie have the closest progression system to Lydie & Suelle/Mana Khemia? In terms of story? ‘Cause I’ve really been loving it so far in L&S. It’s not that I dislike time limits, if there was a way for me to control when stuff moved forward more in the ones that had them, then I wouldn’t mind them there.

I dunno, I guess time limits with no way for me to move things forward on my own just give me SoS1 flashbacks.

Or if there are any others that would let me progress like that, if that makes sense?

Shallie's progress system is task based like Lydie & Suelle. Atelier Sophie also doesn't have a time limit (also task based - but it's just one story instead of having branching endings).

I'm kinda 50/50 with the time limits in Atelier, but if you want less of them, those are your options (from what you haven't played).

Next day edit: Also, it does my heart good seeing people here giving the Atelier series a chance. I won't by any means chalk it up to my (obsessive) influence, but I love that people are giving one of my favourite series a try.

I've been playing Kingdom Hearts 2 via the Story So Far collection on PS4. It's really hard to refresh your memory on a series storyline after there's a 10+ year gap between console releases (not counting handheld stuff). Major rant behind the cut.

I'm about halfway through KH2 and I must say... this series has THE MOST convoluted storyline I've ever had the displeasure of encountering! I don't know what the heck is going on even after reading summary after summary. It doesn't help that you can't get by on playing only the console releases either. If you skipped all the handheld games, you missed A LOT of story in terms of backstory AND important events that take place between console editions. And the real kicker? NOTHING MAKES ANY SENSE. I was so angry last night after I stopped playing. I might even cancel my KH3 preorder I set my controller down and was like WHO HECK COMES UP WITH THIS GARBAGE. The ultimate conflict is shaping up to be exceptionally stupid IMO. I'm also getting super sick of Square using Tetsuya Nomura as their primary character designer, and even though KH2 is old now, I've always hated his designs in particular for the KH series overall. I really hope the next release is the last. This series needs to die. I'm sure most of you think I should just cancel my preorder, but it I feel like I NEED to see this through to the end for absolutely no good reason.
