HDN games were on sale and I had $10 on my Vita, so I got HDNR(?) and Producing Perfection. I don’t really know anything about it except that it’s cute-looking from screenshots I’ve seen and Atelier fans and Neptunia fans don’t get along for some reason.

Huh, my list is incredibly short unlike you guys LOL! Honestly, I'm not even sure if I can even play since school is really keeping me away from a lot of my hobbies, so I won't pick up most of these until summer vacation. Saaaaad :/
Golden Sun series is a fave!! Have fuuunn <3
It's really too bad there hasn't been news for a fourth game. I loved the gameplay i.e. using psynergy outside of battle to get through the dungeons. I don't know of any other game, aside from Pokemon, who does the same :c
Also, welcome to the forum!

Heh, the age old rivalry. I honestly don't know fully myself where the Nepnep Vs Atelier stuff came from, but it's a thing (mostly on Reddit and Gamefaqs - which I used to frequent both a lot). I think it might kinda have to do with both series being kinda samey, though vastly different in tone. They both have the formula of 'watch a cutscene, do a thing, go to a dungeon, fight in turn based combat - rinse repeat'. The difference is that Neptunia is all about fanservice - from the games it's parodying to the skimpy outfits while Atelier is more focused on its overarching narrative. Both series are very character based - both of their narratives needing their colourful cast to carry their stories, but it's all down to taste at the end of the day.
I'm not a Neptunia fan, but I see why people like it despite my distaste for the series. I'm also a raging Atelier fan, and I understand that one of my favourite series isn't for everyone. The 'rivalry' is mostly just waifu wars when you get down to the core of it all, but you can't deny the series similarities either.
Anyways...
Look like I wont be getting Iconoclasts done before tomorrow. I tried, but i've been both sleeping more lately, and focusing on other hobbies. It's all good though, because I think I stopped at a good point that'll be easy to pick back up.

Thanks, I'm definitely having a ton of fun with! I've played Dark Dawn before but it's not as good as the GBA game now that I take a look at it, lol
Yeah, I know. The series is pretty much dead, and the gameplay was super unique. It's sad to see a series with great potential to die so soon.

There's still a part of me that hopes for a successful revival, just like what happened with Fire Emblem
Aside from the unique gameplay, the GS world was really fascinating. All those lore..!!
You're making me want to play it again =((

So, I've got Vesperia now. None of my complaints are overly serious, but I'm not comparing to the original because I've never played it. And what I AM playing feels like an old game. The controls are smooth but slow...no lightning-fast responses like I'm used to in games made in the past few years. The looks are nice, but don't feel old or new, exactly...not sure how to describe it.
Not even an hour in, yet, so I've no comment on the story or even the characters, except that Yuri is interesting in that he doesn't feel especially young (I doubt he's supposed to be a teenager, anyway) and so his jadedness doesn't read as immature but rather as experienced, which is not what I'm used to.

Ah, that explains it then. People get weird about their Waifus. Though, I might still harbor a not-so-secret crush on N from Pokemon, so I’m not really one to talk... >w>”

I think Vesperia is the last entry to use that style of cel shading, so while IMO it can make it so a game ages well in terms of looks (cartoons are cartoons, right?), it's not something we really see in current entries.
The battle system wasn't updated, so it's definitely gonna be stiff, unfortunately. Hopefully the story and characters grab you enough to make up for some of the flaws and pitfalls of playing a game that's a decade old. Yuri is by far my favorite lead in a Tales game, but I could totally understand if he ends up being a bit too dark/jaded/amoral for some.

So far I like him. I've managed to fit 4ish hours of game into today, but I keep having to stop and sleep, lol. This kept happening yesterday and the day before, too...I sleep hours during the day and then a full night and still feel ready to drop all day. (-__-) But yeah! So far, I think I like Yuri, though I don't have a good grip on why he is who he is. It seems to simple to say that he's jaded because he
I doubt that's all there is. It's also too early for me to even know if that's actually true.
Not crazy about the battle system at this point, as it feels rather clunky and boring, at least right now. It just doesn't have the flowing nature I'm used to from games Xillia onward. I feel like the story hasn't gotten into the point yet, so I don't have a firm opinion of anything.
And now I just have to find if there's a save point at this Hill place I've currently found, cuz I seriously need to take another nap.

I really hope you enjoy it as you continue playing! I just booted up my own copy and started over after 40 minutes with the Japanese voices lol. Anyway, I look forward to hear how your journey with Vesperia goes

Thanks

It has none of the issues that Graces had (the only Tales game I can say I basically did not like, of the ones I've tried) so I'm not worried I won't at least
like it. Though I do hope the battle system picks up, somehow. Gets more interesting.
I totally forgot that this Definitive version comes with a bunch of costumes! Took me a while to figure out that you don't equip them the way you do in other games, but I opened the game just long enough to check, and have him in an outfit that makes his body proportions look slightly less weird to me, lol. (Some of those outfits are
hilarious) But I do wish they hadn't given him such a bizarrely high waist. It really throws me off, lol.
Hopefully I'll be able to stay awake more than a few hours at once tomorrow and can get far enough into the story to get a better feel for it. For the rest of today I'll just be sleeping.

____________
NEXT DAY EDIT: I've been awake just an hour and am already ready to go back to bed, but...I just met a yellow-haired character that I think is a bit of a dingus. So concerned with black and white that the dingus can't see that there's more grey than anything else. He feels out of touch with reality, to me...I want him to get boffed on the nose a few times until some sense gets into him.
This game may take me longer than expected to play, though, not just because I don't like the combat system, but because I keep having to take naps every few hours! I can't play much more than an hour or so at once, even if I have the time free.

Hey, Kiki, if you want a better feel for Yuri and Flynn as characters (and Repede too), there's a prequel anime movie for Tales of Vesperia called 'The First Strike'. It's more of a supplement than a full on prequel, but it gives some good backstory (basically Yuri's time in the knights and why he left). The definitive version of the game will have you meeting some of the movie characters as well. You don't HAVE to watch it, as everyone gets ample development in-game, but it's there if you want it!
I'm and hour or so into ToV, and i'm reminded of it's slow burn opening, but I love the characters and their interactions (I watched a playthrough of this game on YT back when it was brand new). I can't wait to unlock Patty!

Thanks Bluie; if I can find it, I may watch it
The second yellow-haired character I've met is way more fun. It's love at first sight, is it? LOL. Cute. But this makes me curious about the Tales' series staple character Aifread. Now I'm gonna have to do some research.

I downloaded all the free ToV DLC and redeemed it, and made everyone stupidly op. OOPS. Oh well, turned the battles onto hard and decked out everyone in my favourite costumes/accessories. At least it'll be a more relaxing romp. I already know where the story goes, it's just been over 10 years since I consumed it.
I used to adore the Tales series, imported all the titles we never got and played through them (The Radiant Mythology Trilogy is so much fun), but I haven't played one since the Tales of the Abyss 3DS port. It feels really nice to be playing one again regardless.

Xillia is my favourite, and Xillia's battle system is my all-time favourite game combat system. Of ANY game, I mean, not just Tales' series. But though Xillia 2 (also very good) still looks pretty good, the first Xillia is looking decidedly dated, now. I hope they remaster it some day for a current (or future) system.
I do NOT like the stupid ring you have to use to get advantage encounters in Vesperia. Almost impossible to aim it just right, but even if you get it, usually running into the enemy while stunned does nothing and it thaws and attacks you. I MUCH prefer the 'attack from behind' method for getting an advantage.
OOOH SAVE POINT. Man I needed a save point. They're never anywhere near me when I need to quit, lol.
I had a bunch of stuff in my inventory from the beginning but I haven't actually dl-ed anything. I'll have to check and see if there is more. I WANT an easy ride, as I'm playing for the story and would rather breeze past battling as much as possible. I'll leave any level ups for later though.
