Games I want:

Kirby Star Allies (Switch)

Town of Light Deluxe Edition (Switch)
Little Dragons Cafe (Swich)
New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe (Switch)
Yo-kai Watch 3 (3DS)
Luigi's Mansion 3 (Switch)
Pokemon 2019 (Switch; will pre-order as soon as possible)

I also just bought Piczle Colors for my Nintendo Switch even though I haven't completed the other games in the Piczle Lines series. Edit: I'm too sleepy to play any video games tonight. I'll play them tomorrow.

On a side note, my relaxation time will have to be severely cut down starting in February, because I need to study Russian again. I'm taking Intermediate Russian I (one) in late April. I'll post here when I buy new games, or make any significant progress in, or complete, the games I'm playing. My Russian class is online only and lasts from April to July.

Letter Quest Remastered was super cheap (70% off) so I grabbed it. I remember watching my friend play it and it was super zen/fun. Sooo, my backlog for February is;

Labyrinth of Refrain
Fishing Star World Tour
Go Vacation
Letter Quest Remastered

I'm not gonna rush the last 3(because they're more for vegging out) but I do plan on finishing Labyrinth of Refrain before Caligula comes out on March 12th. I want one JRPG at a time, no more juggling.

Quick little update for anyone who uses the Switch primarily or exclusively handheld and is thinking of buying Farm Together. It's still a really fun game, great for filling in way more time than you actually meant to fill in, but...it seems to eat the battery faster than any other game I've played on the Switch, including BotW and XC2.

That could always be something weird about my Switch, I suppose, but I think my battery works normally. It could also be that FT just eats up more time than you think it will so the battery has the appearance of losing power really fast because you were actually playing longer than you think, but...I think it actually does eat power really fast.

EDIT: I've also got Tales of Hearts R arriving today, and will try it to see if it's gonna be chalked up as just a collectible from a favourite series (which is what will happen if it doesn't play smoothly or feels too old), or if it's going onto my backlog. I'm hoping it's going to go on my backlog. I even have a new grip on my horrible old Vita (sorry old guy, but your design is the pits. The only comfortable way to hold you without a grip often has my thumbs blocking the sound output) to make it nicer to play with. My last grip wasn't so good AND it broke.

EDIT 2: Got Tales of Hearts R! I love the beginning. All of this narrated fairytale poetry sounds so...epic mythology. I haven't gotten to the gameplay yet, though. At this point I like the graphics and so far think it's prettier than Vesperia Definitive. Though my goodness these characters have insanely, almost Sailor-Moon-esque looooong legs...

Yeah, I looked into the Farm Together port a little bit more, and it's not optimized very well it seems. I'll defs be sitting on it for awhile to see if it gets some needed patches. Off my wishlist for now!

I hope you enjoy Hearts R, Kiki. Story/Character wise, it's my least favourite in the series, but the battle system is insanely fun once you get the hang of it.

If people will mostly be playing Farm Together docked, it plays quite well already, but for handheld...well, I'm not sure how long you could actually play, but it always seemed like I had just started, and suddenly my battery was half depleted, so that might be a consideration for those who intend to play it mostly handheld.

So far I really like Hearts R...I like it more than I liked Vesperia. (I liked Vesperia, even quite a bit at points, but I'm enjoying Hearts R more.) I like the characters in particular, and the way things are proceding is interesting...very fast-paced compared to most others, imo. It launched into the weirdness of the story a little too fast, but that's been my only complaint. I've found a bunch of dialogue to be really funny. I like that we pretty much start straight into a major quest of having to get someone's separate emotions back...it's weird but interesting.

Anyway, it's definitely on the backlog, now...I was hoping it wouldn't just end up as a collectible, and it's not gonna. Xillia has always been my favourite, including the battle system, but Hearts is really similar in the battle system, and the graphics are actually quite nice...nicer than Xillia (not quite as spiffy as Xillia 2) and nicer than Vesperia Definitive's to me, too, so I'm quite happy with it at this point. Though no weakness system has yet been introduced and I haven't figured it out on my own and so the boss I've just met is actually rather difficult...I'm gonna have to level up to be able to beat it.

AND my new Vita grip is very comfortable :)

It's a shame we never got Innocence R. It's my favourite in the series and one of my favourite games of all time.

Ok, as for backlog stuff, I'm about halfway through Go Vacation's initial playthrough. It is more of a 'do whatever you want whenever you want' game, but there are stamp cards to fill up, a photo album to complete, and a big list of achievements (that i'm more or less ignoring). No rush at all, but it's very fun in few hour spurts. I really like snowmobiling around the slopes rn. Very fun!

I did take a break to play some of Fishing Star and WOW, this is THE fishing game for the Switch. It's colourful, fun, and has a lot of content! Combing lures and rods to try and get some of the more elusive fish is really satisfying. It ain't no Riverking, but it is a lot of fun for what it is.

When I 'finish' one of these, i'll go back to Labyrinth of Refrain, but no rush, I'm enjoying the chill.

Still really liking Hearts R! Love the characters so far, though I'm never crazy about the ojisans or the ojiisans they always add to these games (Rowen...bleh.) In this one, it's Gall. Love his hair, but I find him kind of annoying, otherwise...how all the other characters are always saying how cool he is when I don't find him cool at all. It's like it's trying to shove Gall's supposed coolness down my throat, when I'm actually capable of forming my own opinion of him without the game continually trying to tell me how I'm supposed to feel.

But that's just a blip. I don't hate Gall, he's just a Tales trope character I've never liked. Zestiria and Berseria did not have them, but most other Tales games has stuck one in my party, iirc. Rowen, Raven, Gall and Malik come to mind. Though Raven was definitely not presented as 'cool' in most ways, lol.

Playing Farm Together, I am struck by wistfulness. The farming is so good, and the graphics so nice...it would be so cool if this was a Bokumono game, or more like it, with a story and a social system and all that. My farm is currently level 19 and I have 6 property expansions, so I've got some nice stuff, now.

Just tried the Kirby demo on Switch (and I must again praise the existence of demos and wish that all games had them, regardless of practicality) and it's so cute, it'd just about give you sugar shock. I can never remember what the buttons do, though, lol, so I stink. Still...so nice to look at.

Oooh PS Vita is one of the few consoles I don't own. Always wanted to play Tales of Hearts but alas. :!:
Glad to hear you're enjoying it Kikki!
I don't usually enjoy the token old dude type of character either lol. But Raven was different, and ended up being one of my favs in Vesperia for sure. (I got so close to beating Vesperia but I never quite did. One of my greatest gaming shames.)

I'm aiming to complete an ambitious total of three games this month! Maybe, anyway, lol.
Kingdom Hearts 3, Yokai Watch 2, and Cattails. YW2 is almost complete anyways, as I stopped somewhere around 3/4ths into the story a while back. Cattails is questionable because I started a new file, and while I technically already beat the main plotline, there's a lot left I want to do before I can call it done. KH3 is also iffy because the button-mashy nature of the combat means me thumbs are killing me when I play for extended periods. But I'm really enjoying all three. They're all on different platforms, of course, which seems to be essential to me playing more than one game at a time. If I have to swap discs or cartridges it just isn't gonna happen.

I always considered myself a very casual KH fan which is why it's both very funny and surprising to me... I got ridiculously excited seeing a certain character again. Still crazy I'm finally playing a Kingdom Hearts game again.

You could play it now and erase that shame forever, no? :) But if you don't have a Vita, you must be missing out on quite a few of the better otoges... :( (Though they slowly seem to be all getting onto PC now, too.)

Yeah, Raven is...actually not a bad character. Blah-blah, why I don't like him, even though he's interesting and it's just a game...
Spoiler:
The thing is, his behaviour...all the general, continual flirtiness with young girls (not toddler young or anything, but still in the 15-19 age range when Raven himself is 35)..it's fine in a game, but it reminds me of some real life people, and that ends up making my skin absolutely crawl. Cuz those people make it sound jokey, but they're not really joking at all. If they could get away with something, they would. In a heartbeat. Only social pressure keeps them from doing something inappropriate. Raven reminded me of some people like that so even though he's got probably the most interesting backstory of all the characters in Vesperia, I just can't warm up to him. (I know he's only a game character and he's supposed to be taken as a joke, but when it calls real-life situations to mind, it's harder to do that.)

I think real life experiences are often what give people their strongest feelings about games, lol. I mean, it's great if you can just dismiss everything IRL and appreciate the game as the creators probably intended, but any time I take a strong dislike to a character, it's because of some RL thing. I don't like Miranda (Trio) because she's a gossip and RL experiences showed me how harmful gossiping is, that it's really not funny or cute at all. (Hated Frank's event in Trio because of that.) People can lose their jobs, end up having to move, etc...all because of gossip. And Gunther, a fat man scolding his slim wife (or even an actual fat wife, but his wife IS very slim) for starting to gain weight. Things like that. They were probably NOT written to offend me, lol...but I was very bothered and then had a poorer view of that character.
It's hard to keep real life from crossing over into your gaming at all, it seems. It is for me, anyway. Characters that put my back up right away without me even realizing it...there's always some real-life root. Raven's a kind of different case from Malik, Rowen and Gall. Them I dislike mostly because the game keeps having all the characters rave about how cooooool they are. Like, let me make up my OWN mind, game. If they're really that cool, I'll be able to form that opinion all by me onesie.

And this last spoiler is is just that I finally made a list on my laptop of all the games I know of that I'm anticipating, so I'm sticking it here, too. I think I finally got it completed and haven't forgotten any games, but...I certainly am not going to put any money on that.

I decided to dive back into Labyrinth of Refrain now that my schedule has been freed up a bit, and man, it's the game that never ends. I wanna finish it, especially before Caligula Overdose comes out, but if I reach a roadblock (I have it on the easiest difficulty because i'm just playing for the story at this point), i'm not going to waste my time grinding. I have enjoyed what i've played of it, but i'm one cheap boss away from dropping it. Don't hurt me, game! I only have so much patience.

Edit: Sweet mercy, I decided to look up this game's cutscenes for curiosity's sake, and i've done 4 hours out of 10. I... think i'm done, actually. I'd rather watch the rest of them here then slog for heck knows how much longer in this game. I'm tired, and my interest is waning already, so i'm considering this dropped.

---

Hey, Kiki, I see you're looking into maybe getting Go Vacation. It's a nice relaxing experience that can be multiplayer, but it's not an overly 'long' game unless you're aiming to complete all the challenges and unlock all the furniture for your villa. I'm taking a quick break from it as it's nice to fall back on after long JRPG sessions. Also, it's a bit hard to find in my area unless you want a digital copy. I had my fiance get me a copy from the states (for half the price because it was the floor copy) because it was NOWHERE.

Man... my attention span is horrid these days. If I don't LOVE a game, I drop it like a hot potato. Out of all the games i've played on my Switch, the ones i've been engrossed for hours upon hours are so little I can list them on one hand. Why must I be so pickyyyyy?!

Thanks, Bluie. :) It's available on Amazon.ca at a slightly inflated price, right now, but it's not something I'm in a hurry for, just one I'm considering. Funnily you can actually buy it cheaper by getting a UK import than buying from a more local source.

You're probably not excessively picky. I'd even say you're almost the opposite of that. It's not just that you seem to have wide tastes to begin with, but that even games you're not interested in at first can become appealing later on. I mean, I did notice that this year you've probably been dropping more games than you've been finishing, but even so...I remember back when I first saw Labyrinth of Refrain and thought it looked interesting, you said you were tired of seeing dungeon crawlers everywhere and the protagonist seemed like a "duck quacker", as FOGU puts it. But you got interested in it again sometime in the following half year, and ended up trying it after all. :) And I originally wanted it, but didn't get it. So...I think maybe it's more that you're interested in so MANY games, or want to try so many, that it's no wonder you end up liking less of what you try than someone like me, who rarely takes the chance.

Or maybe I'm off on that, and you just don't have the patience for anything less than great, right now. Life's too short...and too full of mediocrity you can't avoid...to waste time on games that aren't great anyway. :)

Yeah, that does sound about right. So much appeals to me that I just gotta try everything that mildly interests me. With the Switch it used to be that I had nothing to play. I used to scroll through the eShop looking for anything that I thought would be fun (with varying results), but now, there's SO MUCH good stuff. I'm defs both overwhelmed and intrigued by too much.

I think it'd be more proper to say that i'm 'training' myself to be more picky. Out of my ginormous 2019 wish list of confirmed games(that I haven't already paid for) I forced myself to choose 4 that I knew i'd 100% get into and finish. Atelier Lulua, Animal Crossing, Pokemon, and Fire Emblem Three Houses. Anything else is just an add-on or filler between them. There is a lot coming out this year that I want to play, that I want to love, but it's iffy with everything else that isn't those four titles (I would also include DQB2 and FFCC in here as well, but i'm willing to sit on them if I don't have the funds for day one purchasing).

It also doesn't help that so many indies are reasonably priced and so many of them appeal to me (for better or worse). Anyways, the positive thing to get out of this is i'm a good recommendation machine when it comes to Switch games. I can help you save some coin or find that game you're craving! >:3

Welp, since this is the backlog thread, I'll post this;

Go Vacation: 60%
Star World Tour: 10%

I also redownloaded Taiko Drum n' Fun cause it got some free DLC + it's a good distraction now and then.

With all of that above said, i'm still really looking forward to the 3 games i've already preordered/paid for (Remilore, Caligula, Nelke). I hope they all hook me and I don't drop them!

This thread is for talking about your backlog. The reasons why you buy and finish or don't finish games is very on topic, imo. :)

One of the major reasons I end up buying so few games (seems to average out to 1.5 games per month) compared to some is that I have trouble dropping games even when I don't like them. Even if I'm not enjoying it, I'll force myself to finish, unless I just can't stand it so much it's making me cranky enough that I'm walking around with a mad mood IRL, lol.

When you know you'll feel terrible if you don't finish a game, it tends to stop you from taking chances. I can't easily trade my games in as I have to drive two hours to get to the nearest place where that would be possible, so if I dislike a game it's just wasted money, and I consider that a failure or mistake. Not a good thing, really, but it does curb my buying of games I'm not sure of. Plus my tastes are quite narrow, and I dismiss quite a lot out of hand at this point. I tried more things and gave up on them years ago, lol. And I'm sure I'd still try more if I had access to a game shop where things could be traded in or credited in some way, so not liking something was less of a waste. (Or even if I had gamer friends irl that I could give or trade my games to if I don't like them.)

Speaking of which...I still have to finish Tokyo Twilight Ghost Hunters. (-__-) I like parts of it, but who on earth thought it was a good idea to include a character level system in a VN?! I'm stuck grinding for levels on that tedious ghost-hunting strategy game that plays like a board game. The rest of the game is a breeze and I could get through it easily, but the levelling is tiresome.

Right now I'd much rather be playing Hearts R or Farm Together, or even working on my replay of SoS1, so that's pretty much all I've done in February...been ignoring TTGH entirely. But I'll get back to it. *sigh* (At least I got it on a good sale!) Wintertide Miracles isn't coming on release day for me...I won't be getting it until about February 20th, according to Amazon.

Finished Kingdom Hearts 3. Gorgeous graphics and music, really fun gameplay, terrible story.

Plan is to FINALLY finish Vesperia this weekend, hopefully. Aksys was kind enough to send me a coupon for 10% off Wintertide Miracles plus free shipping, so I ordered from them instead of Amazon for a change. Apparently it will be arriving Monday according to the tracking number, which is nice getting it a few days early.

I think the rest of the games arriving soonish (in order) are Liar Princess and the Blind Prince, Trails of Cold Steel Decisive Edition, Yoshi, Our World is Ended and Zanki Zero. That takes me all the way to April.

I recently finished Alicemare and LiEat! That's two games off my backlog. LiEat was really adorable and wholesome. I'm a sucker for stories with cheery kids + aloof but kind guy [with a mysterious past] :3c

I am still playing ANB (still have to finish town plan 4 and 5) and have these games to beat:

SMT IV
SMT IV: Apocalypse
World's Dawn
1bitHeart
Locked
