Translation isn't nearly as long of a process as Natsume makes it out to be... though it is fairly easy for one branch working on it to screw it up. Besides the actual text translation, a good deal of code related to the displaying of text has to be completely redone. Text boxes have to be expanded, new fonts have to be put into it, pointer tables have to be completely rewritten, etc.
they are probably doing this with the extra time: "h, there are not enough mistakes. i think we need to throw a few in. let me se... misspell that, mess up this..."
