I posted similar issues I had with RF5 and its (lack of) hype a few pages back. Even now, less than 2 weeks from release, I still see threads on reddit in which the OP asks whether to buy RF4 or RF5, and multiple other redditors reply to definitely get RF4 and maybe RF5 later. That's not a complement. To repeat what I posted before, I really hope that RF5 isn't forgettable. It seems that most of the Japanese-speaking fans have already moved on from RF5, meanwhile people are still talking about RF4 10 years after its first release.
Most of what I've heard about the difficulty is that RF5 generally considered easier than RF4. As for the chapters/acs thing...
Spoiler:
They work the same as in RF4, but there's just 2 in RF5. RF4 had 3.
Another issue that separates RF4 and RF5 is stability. RF5 is less stable and more prone to error than RF4, even after a year of patches. RF5 is definitely better than it was at release, but it still struggles to run in some areas. RF4 is also cheaper than RF5, and they are both on the same console, which causes the two to directly compete with each other.
Anna_Lynn wrote:I think the final conclusion is that RF5 is less of a sequel to RF4, and more of a re-introduction to a once canceled franchise.
That would explain how safe RF5 seems to be. It seems very similar to RF4 in many aspects, a bit too similar at times to me.

They pretty much cloned RF4 into RF5 and changed names and skins, in my view. I don't mind that very much, since RF4 was great and the characters and events of RF5 are apparently great. I do really hope that RF6 will have it's own identity, though, the way 1, 2, 3, and 4 were all more distinct from each other. I'm willing to let this one coast by as a clone due to the bankruptcy and rescue of the series...it's okay to resurrect it as a clone, I think. The future progeny, though, needs to show a little more change/refreshing/innovation, at least for me.
I'm sure I'm going to like this, and if the characters and their events are GREAT, then I may like it as much as RF4. (Though the characters there were pretty darned good already.) But I don't feel that RF5 is an improvement on RF4, so maybe that's a reason why I'm not so hyped, even now that we're only 10 days away from release. I also was a bit let down by how ugly/overly simple some of the environments were, though I'm pleased the character art still looks good, and the town itself seems to have some charm.

Nostalgia holds a lot of weight for people, whether they realize it or not. Probably a lot of people don't realize just the extent of their nostalgia bias. So I think it's going to take RF5 coming out and more people getting their hands on it and getting attached to new characters to kind of...ease some of the hold 4 has. Once people start playing they'll start talking and making fanart and fanfics and so on.
We all love good characters. And that seems to be the best part of RF5.
I'm still in the "wait and see" camp. I'm sure I'll pick it up at some point, just not now. Got too many games to play already, to be honest. Maybe when its been out for a while and its on sale. I think a good sale would be enough to tempt me in.

I am really hyped! I have too much vacation time, so I wound up being able to take the week off after the release to play it, which I've never done before.
It is still pretty quiet for being so close to release! I've got my fingers crossed that it'll have a big launch. The Xseed store is apparently down at the moment, so I'm choosing to believe that all the folks looking for the physical edition of RF5 are crashing it. XD
Spoiler:
I'm curious about the shorter main story. I spent more time in RF4's third story arc than the first two combined, I think. But if the town and social elements are roughly the same, that will give me more time to farm and bum around town, which I'm kinda into.
I'm curious if that will lend itself more to replays, too. Restarting RF4S is so daunting that I can't bear to do it, though I love that game. But maybe if 5 is short, with a lot of similar town events, it might be fun to have a couple different files for marriage candidates.
Also, I hate the crafting system, and never quite figured out how to craft at Sharance Maze-level. Maybe if it's shorter, I'll be able to teach myself how to properly combine stuff this time, haha.

True, I usually can beat the main story for RF4 before Doug's birthday on Autumn 6. It's helpful for boosting his LP as soon as you're able though for marriage. I always considered the Venti Arc more of a post-game thing anyways. I do remember reading that apparently days are longer in RF5, so maybe that's why people are going so quickly?
I never really did Sharance Maze Crafting either honestly. My idea of crafting was planting some high level seed dungeons and running around them until they spawned chests with high quality weapons that I would use until I found something stronger. Oddly enough, it worked out rather well.

I hadn't heard about the longer days! That's interesting too. It'll be nice to have different routines.
I really love that there were multiple alternative ways to get decent weapons to beat those last areas of RF4 if you were bad at crafting. I did a ton of seed dungeons for equipment, but I finished the game with those sword and shield plants. I wound up getting a sword that devastated the last two areas of Rune Prana. The sword flowers and seed dungeons really helped keep farming alive later in the game for me, I'm hoping they or something like them returns.

Definite spoilers below related to the subject of dungeon seeds and Sharance Maze in RF5.
Spoiler:
There are no dungeon seeds in RF5, but the sword and shield plants are still around.
The Sharance Maze itself exists in RF5 as a labyrinth. The monsters within are lower leveled compared to the Sharance Maze of RF4, and bonus dungeon itself is has fewer floors. I have no idea about the new maze's item drops or how to unlock the maze.

That's interesting! Exciting, too. The Sharance Maze felt untouchably difficult in 4, I only ducked in a few times. If it's lower level, I wonder if it'll be more of a Rune Prana-style challenge. It's nice you can raise the difficulty too, as I liked the Sharance Maze challenge in theory.
Looking forward to that for sure! That was definitely more of the hype I needed.
I've seen a handful more conversations on Reddit, but most of it seems to be about the availability of alternate outfits. I can't remember where I saw it (maybe this thread), but I'm very surprised the Earthmate edition sold out before launch. Either they made a lot less of them, or it's been very popular!

Spoiler:
On the topic of Rune Prana, there were a few other Reddit posts (I think both of them were reviews of RF5) that coincidentally commented that the default difficulty of RF5's Sharance Maze was closer to RF4's Rune Prana than RF4's Sharanace Maze. You might be on to something, simside.

Spoiler:
Well I've never been looking for a harder RF game, so if RF just leaves it as challenging as RF4 or manageable I'm okay with that. If I was looking for over the top difficult combat I wouldn't be looking at RF games for that anyway.
I have noted in vids that the PC 'home' room seems very large and basically empty. Course this compared to the RF4 rooms that were a cluttered mess if you tried to add everything. But I get in a 3D game you need room to run around, turn around, etc., but it is noticeable empty feeling.

Spoiler:
I think that the player's room being like that is because furniture can't be moved around. I don't recall people moving furniture around, but I honestly can't say for sure. I think the furniture all have fixed locations. Things might be different in the... (end game spoilers below)
Spoiler:
villa that can be purchased after beating the main storyline, but I haven't seen any footage of how the villa works compared to the room. I also don't know what can be placed in the villa.
Edit - X-Seed released a 3rd localization blog (https://www.xseedgames.com/2022/03/15/rune-factory-5-localization-blog-3/). It mostly focuses on voice acting and recording it for the game. Apparently, programming the voice lines to show when they were supposed to was a huge hassle, even more so than in RF4, to the point that the game had to be reprogrammed with a new system solely to allow X-Seed to force certain lines to appear when appropriate. That's in line with RF5's extra glitchiness compared to RF4, I suppose.

Game has preloaded itself onto my Switch. I'm having very "Let me in, LET ME INNNNNN!" thoughts each time I look at the icon.

Am I the only one who wants to hear the mixed up voice lines-to-text? Lol obliviously I want to play the actual fixed version but to hear the most random voice lines to text for just like one day would be hilarious imo
