Does anyone know what the point is in the order for having Raven or Barrett come to town every day? Because...

They come every day already, and always have, not just in this RF4S file, but in both of my RF4 files on my 3DS. My friendship points with Barrett for some reason always soar past everyone else's...it's like he's one of my monsters, his FP goes up so quickly, just from talking to him once a day. Are they not supposed to be coming every day? I think I see Raven slightly less often, but Barrett is always in Selphia. His family must miss him!

I went through Idra cave yesterday and am chasing down the bad guys through Maya Road, next. My Fists of Earth (with sleep attack) and Twin Blades (with a poison attack) worked really well to switch between as I was going through Idra Cave. Also, I just realized that those little signs at the entrance to new areas have 'recommended levels' written on them. So I no longer have to wonder if I'm under-leveled. Turns out I wasn't. I was level 75 when I went through and the 'recommended level' is 45.

I don't know why it's my thing to always think I'm under-leveled in every game. Need more levels. More levels! Maybe this hearkens back to my early console gamer days when all combat was too difficult for me, and boss battles were scary, and I HAD to be high level or I couldn't win, lol. That feeling never really changes, though after all these years I'm probably average at combat and don't need to go to these extra lengths to win a boss battle, any more.

Except that I like to win easily, lol. I also like to have a reason why everyone makes so much of the protagonist (not just in RF4, but in all games). If they're super powerful, it feels more warranted, for people to be relying on them so much. Well, the gap is closing. Getting into Sechs Territory, the recommended level is 80 and I'm only about 86. (EDIT: I can normally ignore that Sechs is just a weird spelling of another common word, but when Vishnal yelled "Princess! Let me know if there's anything I can do to help. We have to stop the Sechs!" I may have snorted a little.

Well, after almost a week of no laptop I'm back with some more additions to my backlog. It was in the repair shop. I ended up getting a replacement screen for it because my original one broke.

I finally picked up TMS#FE Encore and my Archival Edition of Rune Factory 4 Special came in! I'm currently playing RF4S, and I finished Arc 1. The recipe bread RNG has not been kind to me really. I ended up going into several dungeons with not the best armor because the game kept giving me recipes for HATS. I don't need hats, game, I need actually armor and shield! So, I've died. A lot. More than I did in the 3DS version I think. Either they adjusted the balance, or my speedrunning through low-level style caught up with me. Still, I think I'm back on the level curve. Now to prepare thoroughly for Act 2 by getting my gear up to par.

However, prior to this, I was playing Dragon Quest XI S: Definitive Edition. I got like 5 out of 6 Orbs, which is near endgame of Part 1. I'll get back to it eventually, but I've just got so many things to do. xD

The recipe bread doesn't really work by RNG so much, afaik. Only in a very limited way. If you have several recipes that are at the same level that can be unlocked by the same type of bread, then RNG kicks in, as to which one (or ones, if Porco gives you a better grade of bread) you get first, but otherwise it seems to be based on level, as far as I can tell. I've always gotten them in order of their difficulty level. It's just that there are a lot more hats than other things. In armor, in the first 20 levels, you only have 5 choices. With shields, you have 6. But in headgear, you have 15. Triple! So it's going to have a lot more hats to unlock than the other two categories. The trend continues, too. There's loads of headgear. I'm at level 36 forging, right now, and I have 24 headgear recipes, but only 10 armour recipes, cuz there just aren't as many armour recipes.

So at least the RNG deities aren't just being mean to you. :) It simply doesn't have as many armour or shield recipes to give. You seem to have one hat recipe every other level, sometimes even on concurrent levels, but one armour or shield recipe once every 3 or 4 levels, particularly in the beginning. (I looked it up after this out of curiousity, and there are only 18 armor recipes in the whole game, but 28 headgear, so the gap closes a little later on. But to begin with you get a huge whack of headgear. I'm only level 36 forging and already have 24 of 28 possible recipes.) Fortunately I don't need to care about shields, as I always end up going for dual swords and/or fist weapons, with which a shield can't be used anyway. But more armor options would have been nice at certain points!

~

I'm taking my time getting through the Floating Fortress. I want to see more town events and I've been expanding my crafts a bit as well as finally getting my farms in order and using monsters to water now that I filled an entire field with grass. I don't want to water that myself! Dating Dylas, but not paying much attention to him, atm, as dates interfere with events, so I'm leaving that for now.

So, I haven't been able to play Rune Factory 4 Special the past few days because I was doing the new Pokemon Day event raids and getting a bit further in Piczle Lines DX. Also, I had Anime Club yesterday. I hope to get back to the game today.

I think I got a bit further in Pocket Card Jockey by getting a new client/owner that I've never seen before, but his horse is doing bad in races. LOL

Also, played my copy of NG for the first time at Anime Club and we finished the prologue together. Of course, it wasn't on my Switch, so I'll have to get through the prologue again later, but it was fun.

Also, decided in my copy of Animal Crossing New Leaf to finish paying off my house completely for the first time ever in any of the games. Just to say I did it.

Wow. I finished arc two, and arc three triggered around five or so days later! I really wonder if any of this stuff was tweaked in this new version. Mind you, in the other two times I've played, I didn't have to wait long for 'Memories' then, either. Not having any luck triggering Smile Practice, though! And it's such a short, easy little event, that could fit in anywhere. :P Oh well, I don't really have any reason to hurry and some reason to wait.

Still a very fun game with loads to do. I don't think anything else could have made me forget about Animal Crossing. I was all hyped up but this has totally distracted me and in the meanwhile, calmed me back down. I never did bother finishing the third arc in my previous plays. (Weirdly, since I was almost done RP on my second time.)

All my creating skills are level 40+ now but that's still kinda low...

EDIT: Unfortunately, the final day of the Memories event is on Xmas day in the game. It's blocking my ability to ask Dylas on a date that day. :/

Oh man, all this RF4 talk is making me want to pick up my 3DS copy again! :P Granted, I did say I still want to 100% crafting the armors and weapons, but I meant to clear up my Switch backlog before diving into it again.

Anyway, I've finished my first ending (Ophilia's) in Octopath Traveler. I also got my first game over with her Ch 4 boss lolol. I'm looking forward to see the finale of the other 7 heroes!

All I have left in FFXIV storywise is the 5.2 Eden trials, which I am told are going to absolutely kick my butt. I plan on getting through them tomorrow (it's 4 raids, so 4 intense boss battles) and then finally taking my break. I am very enthralled with the story right now though and I'm looking forward to when 5.3 eventually drops. I've found the more I think on the finale of 5.0, the more I realize how enjoyable Shadowbringers was. Full Fathom Five has become my favourite track in the entire game. Beautiful to listen to out of context - heartbreaking in context.

The NieR raid is both hilarious and stressful. You've got people who've been doing it since it dropped and new scrubs like me alike and it just becomes absolute chaos. My first run had me at 10+ deaths and my fellow healer refusing to res me anymore - the other teams white mages took pity on me instead. I felt it was kinda deserved... me dying every few min was probs really distracting. One of the pity WHMs came over and gave my Lalafell a pat on the head once we finished. Second go round I had I think 4 deaths, so lessons were learned. I've yet to run it again (I got all the outfits I wanted) but I plan to do it sometime soon because I want the Pod minion. Getting my FC mates to help out would probs be more fun than with randos though.

And speaking of my FC, I freaking love em'. I hadn't done the Ruby Weapon yet and everyone online at the time jumped into a party to help me out. I don't think I've laughed so hard in such a long time. Every time I thought I was understanding a mechanic, It got turned on it's head and I would die, then our other healer would die getting me up, then the redmages would die resing us, then the bards ran around like headless chickens while the tanks slowly accepted their fate. Everything was all in good fun and we all had a blast. Besides the story, this is why I like this game so much. If you can find a good group who just loves what they do, you're in for a great time regardless of how bad you are.

It's probs gonna be weird for the family not to see me in the living room for awhile once I retire to my Switch.

Do you guys remember when we were all playing MTaP and sooner or later, each person would mention how addictive it was? Somehow that game-play loop really sucked you in. Okay mom, in a minute, I just have to collect one more batch of carbon steel bars! It was even difficult to get to sleep if you played late, cuz your mind would be spinning with all of the stuff-to-do. Some things seem to be broadly experienced, rather than just what one person thinks.

Does Rune Factory 4 make any of the rest of you dream like crazy? I normally never dream (and I actually dislike dreaming, as when I wake up, I feel like my sleep was hectic and not restful) but this happened the first time I played RF4. I dreamed about it almost every night while I was playing, and it is happening again. I've done it at least two nights in a row...I've woken up with the crafting screen in my mind, with all my inventory displayed. Not just RF4, I'm dreaming a lot atm just in general, which is odd.

Is this one of those things that is just a personal weirdness, or is anyone else experiencing the same thing? Though I guess people who dream regularly might not even notice if it was happening...

~

I don't know if I just don't feel like playing today because I'm so tired, or if the game is wearing me out with how much I have to concentrate to remember all the things I need to do (get malm tiger claws for crafting, but don't use the fists of wind on Grimoire...harvest the shield flower but don't pick it, reap it with the scythe to get the leveled-up seeds...get the Yellow and Blue fairies and make sure not to take Green to the boss battle since she'll just heal him...don't forget your date with Dylas again...save and try to trigger Smile Practice next time an event pops up...get a crop to level 10, but first upgrade your scythe...) OR if it's the same problem as last time. I lose interest in the third arc. I'm afraid that if I actually let Frey get married, I'll have no interest at all in continuing, and I want to actually finish the third arc, this time, since I never bothered, before, even though I played long enough to both marry Leon and have the kid, and even get nearly to the end of Rune Prana.

But I loaded the game today, looked at the screen for a while, and shut it again. For whatever reason, even though I've been enjoying it so much, I'm just not feeling it any more. At least not right now. And today is even the Winter Harvest Festival. But I don't have any good winter crops as I was still concentrating on all my fall stuff...my best thing to enter would probably be my Giant Charm Blue, which may not be good enough. Also, Dylas is still mad at me for forgetting a date and he's sulking.

EDIT: Forgot to put my February backlog accounting up:
Spoiler:
February 2020

Games Purchased ~ 2
  • AI: The Somnium Files
  • Rune Factory 4 Special
Games Completed ~ 4
  • Star Ocean 5 (Integrity and Faithlessness)
  • AI: The Somnium Files
  • Commander Keen 3.5 (Keen Dreams)
  • Liar Princess and the Blind Prince
Currently Playing ~ 1
  • Rune Factory 4 Special
It's a long game, and I actually want to complete the epilogue this time, since I didn't bother the first two times. Kinda doubt I'll go for NG+, though. It's just not worth clearing Sharance Maze! Plus I'd kind of like to have a gap of time in March after RF4S, before Animal Crossing, so that I can try House Flipper. If the price is acceptable.

Which means my 'account' for 2020 so far is 2 games purchased and 8 games completed. With that done, I have 8 games left on my backlog, and 10 months left in which to complete them and have it entirely wiped out. Totally fresh game slate! Whee! (That doesn't count any NEW games, but I only buy 1 or 2 games per month on average, so it's quite manageable.)

So, I think I'm real close to paying off all my debt in Animal Crossing New Leaf. Yay. :)

Made a bit more progress in Piczle Lines DX's main story puzzles.

Also, made lots of progress in Rune Factory 4 Special. I woke up Dylas, beat third Dungeon, got Dolce, beat the tree thing (fourth dungeon?) and got the first Runey Stone. I just have to get Leon now, but I'm unsure of what level you have to be. I'm level 30 right now. Also, I know I've seen a runey stone (glowing blue stone) somewhere, I just don't remember where. Also, Arthur can go adventuring with me now.

I think the progress I've made in Rune Factory 4 Special is pretty good for someone who has never played this game before, and hasn't played a Rune Factory game in over a decade. Thank goodness for easy mode.

I made it to chapter 3 in Bravely Second this weekend! Certain parts of this game are very emotional and other parts are funny or ridiculous almost to the point of being excessive, so it's an interesting mix of tones. Of course the battle system in this, like the last game, is so good that I would enjoy it regardless, but good writing always makes it that much more enjoyable. :)

I also picked up Pokémon Sword again this weekend for some of the special raids and managed to do a few Mewtwo raids (with great difficulty - those are a real challenge!). I also EV trained my Zacian since I didn't have anything good for Mewtwo, which I'd been putting off for a while. Ended up playing this one a little more than I planned due to feeling a bit under the weather.

This month is going to be really busy for school so I'm trying not to start anything new - just Bravely Second and Pokémon Masters for me. But once April 10th comes (the due date of my term paper lol) I'm going to jump back into Persona 5, so there's light at the end of the tunnel!

I'm really glad everyone is enjoying RF4S, I'm thinking of picking that one up in the future! I have RF4 for 3DS but never played it, so I'm going to give it to my mom who doesn't have a Switch yet and buy myself the new one (at least that's how I'm justifying it to myself... ).

Make sure the content is safe for your mom to handle. I’m not joking. When my mom took an peek, she gotten scared of the dragon scene. I learned my lesson

I think my mom will be alright. She plays a lot of games (mostly farming but also some others). I could see her getting confused if she played this one alone due to complexity but if we play it at the same time I’ll be able to help her. Thanks for the heads up though! :)

Er...this isn't really backlog related and we're into off-topic territory, now, but I will probably never again have the chance to admit that my mom was very unnerved by the 12-year-old version of Sasuke Uchiha. It got even worse after I explained to her that Sasuke was the way he was because of what happened with Itachi when he was little. Her eyes welled up and it looked like she'd cry, so there's been no mention of Naruto characters ever since!
