So, during quarantine (March 20th thru end of June), I played 300 hours of Animal Crossing, and only afterwards did I count my backlog. Which was 43 story-driven games.
I have a nice mix of story and open-ended games, but I mostly end up playing open-ended (Animal Crossing, The Sims, Harvest Moon, which I could as open-ended simply because you can continue playing as long as possible), Stardew Valley.
I have still purchased a handful more... Including RPG Maker MV, another open-ended.
I don't know what I could do, I work 40 hours and also do full-time school, plus taking care of my disabled father, and child. Soooo yeah. Lol

It'll be there for you when you get back! The next minor patch is this coming Tuesday and the next major one is early December if you'd like a timeline of how it's going rn. I've also not been playing a lot due to general business, but I'm probs gonna be hopping back on Wed, because I wanna participate in what the new patch is bringing. When I have managed to get on lately, I have been trying to solo Eureka, but it's painfully slow and IDK what I'm doing half the time. I don't even WANT the dumb relic weapon, I just want to do the story related to the area, because it's legit the only side story content I haven't finished yet.Panda Parfait wrote:My life is pretty busy right now so I haven't been playing games much at all. Put FFXIV on hold for now, but I hope I can get back into it soon-ish. I miss it!

I've managed to watch 5 hours out of the 23 hour 13 Sentinels Aegis Rim 'Movie'. I do like it so far, but I'm glad I didn't buy it. I think it's story pacing would put me to sleep as a game rn and the battles are 100% not my cup of tea. I've legit fallen asleep watching it twice now, mainly due to my work schedule, but I do want to know what happens next and see all the threads come together. I'm tempted to make the video go double speed to just get things rolling a bit more.
I just beat Tokyo Mirage Sessions! What a fun game; playing it legit makes me happy and smile and lol in real life. and now that I finished it, I feel empty D: The backtracking in the dungeons started to get tedious around chapter 5, but I liked everything else!!
I'll be picking up SOSFOMT back up again and maybe move forward a bit with my Ace Attorney replay. I got a couple of games still in the backlog, but I don't think I should start a new one until the semester is finished ^^;

Spoiler:
So I beat Spiritfarer last night. I do want to return to it do to pretty much everything at some point, but for now, I'm crossing it off. Very beautiful game and it made me tear up a bit; would definitely recommend.
Once again I'm at a crossroads. No idea what to play and yet I have so much to do so.
I did remove Fallout 4 and Witcher 3 from my PC list because I realized it was a bit stupid to rebuy them on PC and to replay them when I had good files for them on PS4. I rebought them because I wanted to have my choices from Witcher 1 and 2 matter in 3, but I didn't like playing 1 and 2 so that point is invalid and for Fallout 4 they had mod support, which I didn't even use, so it's moot.
Anyway, lots of good games to choose from, but no idea where to start.

I think I mentioned that I got Monster Hunter Stories for 65% off a while ago? If I didn't mention it, oops. Cuz I did. Always intended to get it, though I expect the 3DS e-shop will be around for a fair while yet. I'm playing MHS, now. It's pretty fun, even though the combat is turn-based. It's Pokemon-esque, in that it operates on a rock-paper-scizzors style of strategy. I don't understand the bonuses, though. I did power-power-technical, and got a huge bonus (in damage) for doing attacks in that order, totally by accident. Why? I don't get it. But it's mildly entertaining, enough to make the turn-based combat bearable.
For now. Mainly I think that the reason I don't mind it is that it's interspersed with a lot of other things, like questing and exploring and hunting for eggs, so I'm not continually in battle, which would make it get tedious fast. Hunting for eggs doesn't have a lot of variety right now...I think I can only get 'very light' 'kinda light', and 'light' eggs (weight seems to indicate their rarity). Everything has been level 1 for me, excepting only two 2s. Which is probably just what you should expect in the starter area around your hometown, I bet.
Right now I like it, anyway, and if it stays like this, then I'll definitely get MHS2 on Switch next year. Though I am reminded that I hate having to deal with a battery. The 3DS is really nice to hold, but it's a drag to have to stop playing because it needs charged and you have no space to plug it in where you are. I actually meant to keep playing another hour or even two.
But anyway, as long as I don't grow to find the combat tedious, I should be able to finish this one
My love of eggs may contribute to my interest in this game. I cannot get enough eggs.

Yeah, I tried Monster Hunter a couple of times, but I absolutely can't get into it. No motivation at all to play. Just...go hunt monsters? WHY? 'Because you can' simply isn't compelling, for me, and the mechanics weren't intuitive, so I couldn't coast into it on ease of gameplay. I don't know. I tried, but I couldn't get into it. But Stories is actually really easy to get into. I like the various bits of gameplay. The characters aren't very compelling, so far, but there's enough story to carry you along as you try to get all the eggs. Cuz let's face it...it's all about the eggs. And if you get tired of it, you can do some side quests, forage for goodies, and upgrade your equipment bit by bit. I dunno, it's just working for me. Right now, anyway. I'm hopeful that it will continue as it began. I'm hoping to unlock more of the world after I beat up this annoying Dan guy in a monster battle, but I got distracted, hunting for more eggs.
First thing I need to do when I get back into the game is buy heart-restoring items. I hadn't even realized they existed until I went, woefully unprepared, into my tutorial rider+monster vs rider+monster battle.

Monster Hunter is 100% a game you either love or hate. I used to hate the games be still love the monster+armor designs. I just didn't get why my progress had to be tied to these overworld bosses instead of buying from shops and leveling up, but, in 2011, the 3DS play library has all but dried up for me and the only release that year that managed to captivate me was Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate. It was an oasis at the time and gave me something to do between college classes... and it helped me bond with bf (now husband).
It's a grindy game with style and substance, and that's really not for everyone. Looking cool and doing damage is first while story is always second. The co-op is also a big selling point too. It has all thing things in a game I usually shy away from these days, but now I'm duty bound to buy and play each entry via nostalgia, buuuut I also genuinely like the series for what it unapologetically is.
Monster Hunter Stories, on the other hand, is the opposite. It's a monster (egg) collecting JRPG with a full story that anyone can enjoy. I'm legit glad it's becoming a series because it's a wonderful way to introduce the non-hardcore audience to the world of Monster Hunter.
I know I knocked on the main series really not having a lot to do with their plot, BUT, the world itself is very rich with legends, lore, reoccurring characters+locales, +more, but you're too busy curbstomping monsters to be able to absorb a lot of it. MHS lets you take in the culture the main series has painstaking created and preserved from a different perspective, and I really heckin' dig it.
I hope you enjoy your time with MHS, Kiki. I'm anxiously awaiting the sequel next year!

I can't say I loved OR hated it. I more just...didn't get it. But MHS gives me eggs. That alone is enough motivation to play, lol, and the fragments are an extra bit of eggy awesomeness, though I don't know yet what they do. But they're eggs, and for some reason, I have always been obsessed with eggs. Mystery eggs all the more! I do want to get out of this starter area, though. I already have every 'monstie' you can get here and I want different/stronger ones.
EDIT: Looks like I just unlocked the ability to leave the starter area. Yay, more types of egg! Though now that I can, I should go back and open all the catavan spots, I think I missed a bunch.

In regards to what's in your spoiler tag, if the hunt is given by the village/guild, there's flavor text in the quests telling you why you're hunting this specific monster. It's usually 'it's endangering the environment' or 'it attacked x'. They're honestly usually interesting or just funny, but there is reasons to be taking down the monster besides harvesting their parts for new gear. Thing is, said text is almost never on the first page of the quest and you have to go to another, non required, page to read up on it.
Also, most of the titles have to stuck in one village or a caravan where you're essentially protecting your home. Hunt or be hunted, pretty much. It's still paper thin, but it's there. I can get why it's not your thing though.
BTW, I know your early on in MHS, but there's free DLC that can get you Epona from Legend of Zelda. You have to do a (rather easy) tournament to get her egg, but she's in the game if you want her!

I saw 'Epona' on the lists of quests, and went 'huh?', but I didn't know what it was about, and it is not available to me yet (greyed out.) I'm doing every single quest I come across, at least right now...all the ones I can pick up from NPCs as well as anything off of the board, both regular and DLC, but ALL of the DLC quests are greyed out. I must not be at the right story point, yet. Just got to the snowfield where me and all my monsters are freezing our buns off.
Currently I'm also finishing up finding the remaining catavan umbrella things (transport spots), and the...poogles? The piggies in underwear/diapers, anyway. It's taking me a while. There are more poog-things than I thought there would be in the starter areas.
Monster Hunter doesn't seem to be my thing, that's true. This year in particular, I can only do so much will-powering my way through uninteresting bits, so what I play this year has to appeal to me nearly effortlessly. It's gotta drag me in without me needing to search to find motivation to play, and I can't bring myself to struggle to learn new mechanics, either, not now. I need to open a game and see a ruined village in front of me, with an old lady crying that she has nowhere to sleep until some kind person finds her 10 pieces of lumber to repair her roof, with someone fretting nearby to her that the invasion trampled their garden and they're going to need 10 more bluebell seeds to get it going again. And then when I turn them over, I want to see the house get repaired and the garden rebloom in a whirl of sparkles, improving the village with every task.
Instant motivation and gratification following closely behind...that's the kind of game I need (and really waaaaaant!) right now.
Or just a massive, compelling story with great characters. But I've got Cold Steel IV coming up in 2-3 weeks for that. *crosses fingers* And Hyrule Warriors after that. *crosses toes*

Almost done with Mass Effect Andromeda run . I really did enjoy my time with my Ryder and her companions and looking forward to the ME Trilogy remaster next year.
I bought Baldur's Gate 3 because I can't resist trying out the CC screen, which was okay. I was hoping it will more in depth like choosing your own complexion and eyes. I plan on creating an East Asian half-elf with freckles but specific head presets are locked on the specific race you choose so that was a disappointment for me.
I will probably give my EA feedback and see if Larian will have at least all head presets unlocked for the other races. Other than that, I will use this EA to learn more about D&D since this will be my first one. I wonder how lucky I will be with my rolls.
On other news, I am planning to pre-order Cyberpunk 2077. Just waiting for my CC cut off date. According to game debate, I could play it at 1080p 62 fps low, 42 on medium and 33 fps on high. I don't mind playing it on 33 fps but I might tweak them. I wonder what the visual impact it will be on low settings?

I'm playing away at Monster Hunter Stories at a decent pace, though definitely not as fast as I could. My motivation is going down due to the extreme un-cuteness of the 'monsties'. They weren't cute in the starter area...and then they got even uglier in the next area. Which seems to have been a transition region, cuz there wasn't a lot to do (though I need to go back and get a few more catavan spots and poggles.) I am definitely a bit disheartened that not a single monster I've come across could qualify as cute, pretty, beautiful, strikingly fierce...they're not even in the so-ugly-it's-cute category. They're just flat out, alien monster ugly. :/ The 'khezu' things (may be the wrong name) are so hideous that when I get an egg from one, I wanna smash it like it's a thing of evil, lol. They look like things that would lay larvae in your stomach that would burst out and kill you later on.
I wonder if I am sufficiently conveying that I do not find them visually appealing...also, all the names are random gobbledegook, to me. Can't keep 'em straight.
I sure hope they get less ugly in other areas, or my motivation to collect eggs will continue to sink. Why aren't any of them good to look at???
Story remains 'okay', but the characters are still very two-dimensional and thus not interesting. But I think I have reached my first city.
EDIT: On my way to the city gates, I ran into an impressive beasty who looks like a very tough-scaled dragon. He's ugly, but in the strikingly fierce way I mentioned, so I don't hate him. The goofy plodding apnotooths (?) all around him are so weak that I can kill them before they have a chance to retaliate even once, but he's so tough that I don't stand a chance. I think I have to leave him be for now.
EDIT 2: On the opposite side of town, if you exit out the back...that area has some cool-looking monsters. I got a Tigrex (who is a level 4 and apparently too high quality for me to be allowed to put in my party!) and a...I don't know. A crystal spider thing. They're not PRETTY, but they do look cool/fierce, so that's acceptable. Plus...the really ugly khezu things may have hideous heads that just look like mouths stuck on the end of their necks, but they actually look pretty cute when you ride them...the back view is wiggly. And they make a noise at the end of a winning battle that is between a cat's purr and a dolphin's squeaky honking, and they give a little shake like a cat, too. Now they seem like they may qualify for 'so ugly it's cute'. (And they're relatively tough, compared to the monsters I had in the starter area.)

Well, I just finished the trip that was (watching)13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim. I'm not really sure how to feel about it, but again, I'm glad I didn't purchase it. I think I would've been disappointed if it had been the game I had waited SO LONG to finally play. It's not bad or anything, but just very not my thing and not a Vanillaware style I'm used to. I'm a Muramasa, Odins Sphere, and Dragon's Crown type of person, and while this was and interesting romp, I know I wouldn't have enjoyed consuming it other than watching.
Anyways, back to dabbling in everything I have on hand until Age of Calamity comes out. FFXIV just got a patch with some good content and Genshin Impact is always fun for a few hours.
@Kiki - While I don't know your tastes 100%, I think you'd like monsters like the Qurupeco, Pink Rathian, Kirin, and Great Poogie. They're the 'cutest' I can think of currently. The first two (and their variants) can be gotten in their respective areas, but the other two are post game iirc, especially the Great Poogie. It's literally a big, angrier version of all the little pigs you've been finding, and you NEED to find all of them in order to unlock it. Maybe look into them and see if they're you're sorta thing?
