I think I will get Aegis Rim myself, still. I actually think I'll like it, and I've heard that you can do battling at your own pace/on your own schedule rather than being rammed into it continually, so you can take breaks from combat if you're not enjoying it. But it's on the backburner until 2021, cuz I don't think I can squeeze any more into 2020 without some of it spilling into backlog for 2021, and I want to begin 2021 CLEAN, with absolutely NO backlog. Eventually in 2021, when there is a space, I'll look into FFVII and Aegis Rim. I'll probably look at HM: One World and Fenyx Rising then, too. And Torchlight III and Digimon Survive, if that ever actually comes out. I've got lots of interesting games piling up during this time when I'm not letting myself buy anything that I'm not certain I need.
Bluie wrote:@Kiki - While I don't know your tastes 100%, I think you'd like monsters like the Qurupeco, Pink Rathian, Kirin, and Great Poogie. They're the 'cutest' I can think of currently. The first two (and their variants) can be gotten in their respective areas, but the other two are post game iirc, especially the Great Poogie. It's literally a big, angrier version of all the little pigs you've been finding, and you NEED to find all of them in order to unlock it. Maybe look into them and see if they're you're sorta thing?
Thanks. :) I got 4 more new monsters and they're all okay. Not cute, but interesting. The Cephadrome is really cool, actually, looks like a dragon-fish-manta ray creature. I also got a regular Rathian (greenish/goldish), a Barroth, and an, um...what, now, how can I have forgotten already? Oh wait, yeah...a little thing that looks much like the velocidrome you begin the game with, except greenish instead of blue. I think it might start with a G. Unfortunately, not all of them are level 3 monsters...I'm still pulling a lot of 2s. I wish there were an accessory that gives you a higher chance of pulling a rarer egg (ie: higher level.) I wish I'd gotten the cephadrome at level 3.

I met a red (or pink?) rathian on my way to the city but it stomped me. I may go back now that I'm higher level and see if I can beat it and make it retreat to a den. :) I wonder when my kinship level will go up one more so that I can use my tigrex. I feel like I've been stuck at this level for a while. Mind you, I don't even know how high the levels go.

Spoiler:
Recently beat:

Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze (Switch)
Let's Learn Korean Hangeul (PC/Steam)

Backlog:

(3DS, Nintendo Switch, and PC) = A lot (over 136 games)

Currently playing:

Animal Crossing: New Horizons (Switch) (Halloween/Fall update)
Piofiore: Fated Memories (Switch)

Games I have pre-ordered:

Digimon Survive (2020/2021?)
New Pokemon Snap (2020/TBA)
Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury (February 12, 2021)
Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin (Switch) (November 10, 2020)
Balan Wonderworld (Switch) March 26, 2021)

Games I want:

Rune Factory 5 (Switch; 2021)
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Hou (Switch) (Japanese only)
Detective Pikachu 2 (Switch; release date unknown)
Yo-kai Watch 4 (Switch; confirmed for the West)
Rewrite+ (PC)

Games beat in 2020: 8

Games bought in 2020: A ton
So, yesterday I picked up my copy of the Robotics; Notes Double pack (Elite and Dash) Day One Edition. It came with a pin set. :)

I also pre-ordered Balan Wonderworld on the Switch. It's releasing March 26, 2021.

Today, I went and got a brand new copy of Snack World: The Dungeon Crawl Gold. It was even further on sale physically for just $27 new. I was really lucky to get one, because it's $50 digitally. I made sure to get one, since they say Level-5 may be halting their North American operations.

Last year, Yo-kai Watch 4 was confirmed to be on the track to localization but they've laid so many people off since last Fall that their barely running, only consisting of a "skeleton crew." I'm really hoping to support them further, in some way. I don't want all their future/current games to be Japan-only.

I would really like for Yo-kai Watch 4+ (Switch), the remake of Yo-kai Watch 1 (Switch), and the recent Yo-kai Watch Jam: Yo-kai Academy Y – Waiwai Gakuen Seikatsu (Switch) spin-off to all be released in the West.

So, if anybody could further support Level-5's North American branch in some way, that would be great.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Level-5_(company)
In October 2020 it was reported that the company's North American operations, including its subsidiary Level-5 Abby, had been shut down.
I'm not 100% sure if the North American division has been shut down or not.

Also, I might finish playing through Steins;Gate Elite on my Switch, Steins; Gate 0 (PC/Steam), 8-Bit Adventure Steins; Gate (Switch), Steins;Gate My Darling's Embrace (Switch), and finish playing Chaos;Child on Steam/PC in order to prepare for playing my new Robotics; Notes Double Pack (Elite and Dash) on the Switch. I have to finish playing 5 games just to prepare for playing 2.

I found a rare den with a Pink Rathian guarding the pile of eggs...but it again totally stomped me. I held up a little better than last time, but the problem is that so many of the pr's non-elemental attacks would one-shot me (the player character, not my monster) and the horrible thing almost always aimed them at me, rather than my monster, who could survive two shots.

Guess I need better armour? I dunno, but with it being in an area that is completely doable at about level 15, and I'm now 20+, and it's one-shotting me continually...kinda dispiriting. Maybe I should try to get another rare den to appear and use smokebombs rather than fighting.

^dw the pink rathian is supposed to be overpowered to you when you first encounter it. I can't remember exactly when I beat it but it was after I progressed and got better monsters/levels/armor/etc.

Also a little tip for nests. You don't have to fight the monsters to get the eggs. Just start the combat and successfully run away and the monster will be gone leaving you to loot the eggs as you please. The same with the monster that appears if you take too long.

I have 2 4-star monsters in my party now...I may be close to ready to get that darned pink dude. I *nearly* beat it once at lvl 20 with red khezu, but that may have been a bit of good luck.

I think I am about half way through the story, going by the scripted event that just happened. However, being ably to do this new thing makes me want to play Xenoblade Chronicles X. Again. Againagainagainagain. (I wish I owned infinite WiiUs, to make sure I can play that game forever.) I think MHS has some great mechanics and is nice and colourful and the story is decent (not exactly revolutionary, but decent, for what it is.) However, I don't enjoy it enough to go for completion on anything. If I finish the game and still feel like playing I can get all the poogies then, get every type of egg and all the best genes for every monster I want to use, do every quest...stuff like that. But right now, I only care about completing the main story.

I really like that switching monsters doesn't consume a turn, though. Always thought that was stupid about other monster-fighting games (ex: Pokemon). I consider it a pretty big perk over ones that use up a turn (and cause you to take more damage with no chance to protect yourself or do damage of your own) when switching.

*Eyes Monolith Soft* You know you guys wanna put Xenoblade Chronicles X on Switch~ ...pwease? I roughly remember them saying they have no plans to do it, but I didn't hear a no! The fact that almost all of the (worthwhile) WiiU titles have migrated over to Switch is a good sign that it might be next, especially with how well XCDE and XC2 did. Though I have a feeling a lot of them are tied up with helping BoTW 2's development, which is such a double edged sword cause I want BOTH of these games looool.

So, I bought myself a game that I'm not really going to be adding to my backlog, because it's a remaster of a game I've already finished several years ago. I played and beat Malicious Fallen's previous version, Malicious Rebirth on my Vita back in my college and I really good memories of it. It's literally an action game where you fight bosses in instanced areas, but it had a really interesting progression system. You could fight any boss in the game in any order, and in doing so it'd make really difficult bosses easy and the easy bosses harder. You could basically customize your play through and meticulously plan your course of action to get the best results. You could also put costumes on your playable character and I do so dig games that let you do that. Anyways, I have it now on PS4 and will play it when the nostalgia bug gets too hard to ignore. I kinda can't wait to read all the good lore in it again.

In other news, in an attempt to get my husband to end game content in FFXIV (mainly the relic weapons and related content that launched this week) I've been trying to run him through the raids associated that need to be completed in order to progress. Now, while alliance raids are my favorite thing in the game (24 people do a big dungeon together and fight 3-4 bosses within), my husband HATES them, and I really don't blame him at this point. All it takes is a handful in that 24 people party to royally screw everyone over - and it's OK most of the time, because people learn and adjust and we get it done ...but not yesterday we didn't. I usually give my husband some pointers to look out for in bosses (because I don't want to spoil everything, but give him a heads up) and he does fine, but yesterday I swear 90% of out party was sticking their fingers in their ears and were in the mood of 'you dont pay my sub so I don't have to listen to you'. The fight we we're doing is NOT DIFFICULT, you just need to, ya know, actually do the mechanics to NOT DIE. Myself and other veterans of the raid were painstakingly explaining everything multiple times, practically pleading for everyone to just LISTEN, but nope, we got ignored and continually wiped with all the newbies whining about how hard the boss it and how it's not fair! I had been a patient enough White Mage, continually raising them and taking blows for them when I shouldn't have had to, and decided it was a lost cause at that point. I understand raids can be confusing and difficult, but there's trying to understand and then there's being a dumbass. We abandoned the raid and I had go play Genshin Impact for several hours just to calm my frustrations down. If it was required content, i'd be MAYBE a little more patient, but it's optional content for the ready and willing, for those who want a challenge. If you don't, then get tf out, you're wasting everyone's time. I can only take so much.

Speaking of Genshin Impact, I finally got another boyo so I can have my full boyband team LOL. I pulled Bennett and I love his silly face. His "You want me on your team???" when I selected him had me like "Awww, he's lonely! What a cute patoot~". Welp, I now run a 3 sword 1 bow team and it works surprisingly well. The only thing that's a bother is mining, but eh, I'll worry about it later.

On XCX...they said it would be "too costly to remake", or not financially worthwhile.
Spoiler:
However that was about two years ago that they said that, and it felt like it meant 'we're not sure if we'll get enough money from a port of the underperforming X to be worthwhile', to me. Everyone else threw up their hands and wailed that oh no, that means we're never getting it! but frankly, I no more take game dev words, even direct ones, as absolute than I do a doctor's, lol. They change their mind all the time, and fudge the truth sometimes, too, to mislead or to hedge their bets or etc.

They barely need to change a thing about it. It worked with two screens on the Wii U, and they'd have to do something about that since you needed the gamepad screen all the time for transportation and so on...but the graphics don't need upgraded. It'd be wonderful if they gave the UI a tweak to have the BGM volume be adjustable (it played so loudly during cutscenes that you often couldn't hear the dialogue) and also have the UI/dialogue/text be adjustable in size, as it was ridiculously tiny. Even I, with perfect vision, occasionally had to squint at it. My friend couldn't read it at all and had to give the game up.

Anyway, those two are pretty minor changes. I really have no idea what they mean when they say it would be 'too expensive' to remake. I don't think those changes constitute a 'remake', so I never believed what they were saying...they were just saying they didn't think they'd make enough money on it, imo, and they had other things to do, so it wasn't worthwhile. If they come to see it as a good money-maker, I definitely think they'll do it.

Unless the next gen of Switch is intended to allow us to use the system like a Wii U, and have the option of letting the Switch screen work as a second screen, and Monosoft knows about it. If so, I think they'd leave it until the next gen and port it then. But it's not like I have any reason to think they'll be adding that as an option, even though I always wanted it.
Okay, back to MHS. I've hit a laggy point where I feel like I don't care what happens next, but I have to power through it. I should see about exploring areas I couldn't get to before I unlocked my new, Rathalos-given transportation option. I need to stock my party with level 4 monsties. At least one or two more. Then it'll take a while to raise their levels up, ugh. That part is less fun. I'll have to see if I can cook up some decent EXP foods. I also need to hunt more blue mushrooms...a big stock of them, to keep loads of potions and mega potions at the ready.

So I haven't exactly been playing anything in my backlog; nothing seems to jump out at me and when I attempt to start a game up it turns out that I didn't like playing it to begin with. To make sure I wasn't crazy, I booted up Stardew Valley. I got into the groove of things fairly quick and realized time was slipping away, so I guess I just need to find that one game I really want to play and play it.

Wizards 101, One Step From Eden, Graveyard Keeper, Overwatch (free week to play), Worms WMD, Wargroove, and Rocket League. I've tried all these games and I uninstalled all but Worms WMD, Wargroove, and Rocket League. At the very least I am eliminating them from my backlog.

I also tried the Kingdom Hearts rhythm demo out yesterday. Hooooo boy, there was too much on the screen and my fingers were flying over the controller trying to remember the right buttons at the time. So I'll be skipping this one for sure.

In the meantime, I'm rewatching a TV show, Grimm. It is spooky season.

It's honestly an assault on your eyes and hands imo. Had they just made it in a similar fashion to the Theathrhythm games, I'd be all over it regardless of my mixed feeling towards the series.

---

I bought myself Robotics;Notes Elite because it's on sale and I legit forgot this game was getting localized. It feels like it's been AGES since I played Steins;Gate and I was always interested in the rest of the series, but life happened and stuff. Apparently I 'need' to play Chaos;Head to get all of Robotics;Notes, but it's never been officially released in English sooooo *checks youtube*, yep, there's a translated playthrough there. It's 100+ videos, but I can at least adjust the speed of the video. Depending on how much I enjoy them, I might pick up the rest of the series too. Actually kinda jazzed to play/read some VNs again. It's been awhile.

That was my thought too. Maybe if the game didn't have canon stuff in it it could have been in the Theathrhythm style instead of using the Kingdom Hearts engine, but it also makes sense to use the KH engine.

And more games eliminated from the backlog. KOTOR 1 and 2, Saints Row 1 and 2, and the episodic King's Quest game from 2015.

I think the most disappointing romances were the ones off the ship. Reyes was the best because he had more interactions, but Avela and Keri, especially Keri, were just flings. I romanced both Avela and Vetra at the same time whereas Keri and Peebee were romanced together and I didn't get negative reprocautions for cheating. There's just not enough interaction with any of the three imo to have made them romance options.

While I enjoyed my first playthrough, imo, it's hard to replay the game. The twins have the same dialogue no matter who is pathfinder unless they're talking about themselves or you go into one of their unique romances. Not having any class restrictions works in theory, but ir also ruins replay value since you can carry over skills in NG+ if you want. These things put me off from a second playthrough for a while. I did manage to play through it 6 times, but only to see all the options and then get my canon playthrough down.
Spoiler:
I officially finished MEA. There were some tasks left but I thoroughly enjoy it. I'm not sure if I could romance Jaal though. He has become an awesome friend to be with and even though limiting, I love Reyes so much so Reyes is officially my canon BW romance. Been reading a lot of Reyes X Ryder's fic to fill up the hole. Their romance has so much potential. I would be very happy with emails from them in some points like the part when Archon took over Hyperion and SAM. What a loss of opportunity. Oh well... I really hope someday Bioware will make MEA 2 though. I really want to explore Andromeda more.

I'm really tempted to get the original ME trilogy but I have to wait for the remastered. Don't want to double dip too much. Currently I have a hard moving on now I'm finished with MEA. I really hate this feeling when you finished a game. T_T I tried playing Greedfall earlier but I feel so much slump right now. Maybe I should play DA Origins. XD On other news, I officially bought Cyberpunk 2077. I'm excited for the character creation, the story and the affect of our choices will make. I just hope my PC could run it though. My GPU is not exactly the minimum (GTX 1050 Ti) though CD Red didn't say if the 1080p Low setting is on 30FPS or 60FPS. Due to this, I'm currently researching for a new PC though I don't think I have the enough funds to buy it yet. I'm hoping for a Christmas bonus this year though and if Cyberpunk 2077 is literally unplayable, I might consider buying a new rig that is not prebuilt. So I might tone down on buying games this year and next year to get a new rig.

On video 64/191 with Chaos;Head playthrough. A lot of the videos are very short as they're showing the outcomes of different choices (the MC has 'delusions' on how situations play out before how they actually happen, and they're either him being a horndog or being paranoid), so I'm getting the full picture, but then some videos are over an hour long (no delusions to cut up gameplay). It's... ok so far? I guess? I'm intrigued by the mystery of it all, but the MC is bloody insufferable. I get that I'm still early into it and everything, but he is really hard to get a read on, and his constant sexualizing every female he meets (including his little sister) is real « Snuggly Bunny » tiring, even if he tells himself he's messed up after each of his delusions. I feel like I'm losing braincells every time I hear his VA do a 'pervert laugh'.

I pray it gets better and that it's connection to Robotics;Notes is more than just cameos. So far, as required reading, I'm not impressed. At least Okabe had redeeming qualities despite his idiocy.

Ew, that sounds awful. I couldn't even play Steins;Gate...the MC was too, TOO cringe, for me. I just can't deal with chuunibyous. I've been told I should stick with it, that it's a great VN, but I couldn't. Well, hopefully the rest falls into place better for you, though!

I tried a tounament in MHS, twice, and it did NOT go well. Why don't I get to use my own monstie? The tournaments seem like sheer luck, rock-paper-scizzors style. :( Also still can't quite beat the Pink Rathian (the 'Passion' one in the den you get a subquest for)...it always uses special attacks that I can't defend against. I can do enough damage to the thing, but I can't protect myself or my monstie from the damage it does to us. It's gotten to be so much of a hassle that I don't want to try any more.

I just want to follow the main story through to completion, at this point. Though...I'm actually not sure what the next story point is, except that it must be in the volcano. I think.

EDIT: Also got to say, every time I see this bad guy and his name, Dr. Manelger, I feel uncomfortable, thinking of the Nazi, Dr. Mangele, the unbelieviably putrid Angel of Death in Auschwitz.

^You can use you own monsters, you just have to set them as your battle party or whatever it's called at the tournament desk. It took me a bit to figure that out too since the game never mentions it. For the pink Rathian all I can say is I think I used regular Rathian armor against it and that if you've been doing side quests you should have a skill that boosts defense (tho I can't remember which quest gives it or if it's weapon specific). If you're stuck on where you have to go the marker will tell you. Buuut if you're where I think you are then use your new ability (the one with the rathalos) in the desert and follow the marker.

Ah, okay...thanks Katgirl, I'll try to find out how I can do that. It definitely didn't offer me the opportunity to form a battle party when I walked up to the tournament thingy...there must be an option somewhere that I didn't notice. That'll be really useful. I thought it'd just use my normal party automatically and was surprised when I got stuck with some random velocidrome.

EDIT: Okay, that was depressing. I was in a gold monster den in Darj snowfields, collecting some stuff, and a Bulldrome charged at me. I can one-shot almost everything in this region, now. But...the game FROZE, and shut down due to error. I lost the rare den, and three eggs I had collected, and a couple of quests I had done, and I'm now just feeling completely done with this game. I was barely having any fun, and when I started to feel like I was getting some things done, it destroyed all my progress. I just...don't want to, any more. I was getting something done, but now my 1-2 hours this morning feels completely wasted. The house is clean enough, but...I should have been baking banana bread or anything else than this, instead. Ugh.
