Well, I think we have our first real Switch 2 leak. (Not a rumour, an actual leak.) Game Freak got hacked, which they themselves also made an announcement about, so it's confirmed. Apparently either the person who did the hacking, or someone who managed to get the info the hacker took, got two notable things from it.

And that's it. As far as I can tell, that is the ONLY two things we found out from the leak. The person who has the full copy of the game isn't sharing it, so it seems like the only thing told is that it's going to be for Switch 2. *shrug* Why are people making such a stink over such boring news? Though that code name...I don't get it. Maybe it's so they could talk about the new console in front of others without anyone even noticing?

Um.
Hm.
What do I say? I feel like I have no context, lol. This doesn't feel real.
The faces look really different, and the way they carefully added that TINY bit that everyone speculated so much about, thinking it had to meant a sequel...
And I NEED MORE DETAILS! How is the online portion going to work? And...March 20th? That's sooner than I would have thought because I can't imagine they're putting this on original Switch, which is already taking its last gasps.
Does that mean Switch 2 is going to be out by March 20th? Or are they really stuffing X onto 8-year-old Switch? And how is it going to run on a single screen? The gamepad was essential to gameplay of X on Wii U. I MUST know more. I don't understand how this is a thing, if this is for current switch. And could the next one really be coming out THAT soon? I...don't think so? Did they fix the QoL issues? Mainly the (for many) illegible tiny text size, and the uneven sound, such as the supposed BACKGROUND music being so loud during cutscenes that you couldn't hear the dialogue. If they didn't fix the text size at least, people I know who quit for that reason (being unable to read any of the quest or UI info) won't have any reason to pick this version up, either.
It looks good, though the faces are weird, very different from the original (though still plenty recognizable.) There's a blur to the motion now that wasn't there before, which I don't know enough to even say what it is or if it's good or bad.
They didn't say a price, either. Or give a list of what makes this 'definitive'. I need so much more info lol. But...
...
Well, but most of all, thank goodness.
I want to play this all the time even now, but the post-game is ruined by the game now being offline. You can't get what you need for post game gear any more. The reward tickets you get from passive online play are essential to the game not being agonizingly grindy. And I'm SO GLAD that more people will be able to play!
And I would play this game over and over, just for the soundtrack. I crave going into Oblivia just to run around, enjoying the running and leaping animations, the gorgeous scenery with all its secret nooks and crannies, and that soundtrack. (I'd say running around Sylvalum, since that's my favourite track, but Sylvalum is insanely dangerous even at max level, lol, to just run around carelessly in.)
But...really? I feel like it's some kind of hoax, lol. That date, and the lack of more functional information, like how it's going to run with online features or the dual screens, etc.
I'm kind of stunned. Relieved that my video game home will continue to exist for years more, now, though, in whatever state it shall be.
EDIT: Found X on the Switch eshop. $80 pre-order. (CAD, of course.) Guess it really is releasing for the current Switch.

I think Nintendo intends to drag out the Switch for a little more period of time and this out of nowhere announcement adds to it. Most likely, I will be proven wrong, but here is why I believe so.
The new console will require minimum 6 months of mass production after the reveal happens, and with October coming to an end with no announcement on the horizon, a Q1 2025 debut appears quite unlikely. The concern was that the first half of 2025 would be empty with no games, which would be a bad look for Nintendo at their upcoming investor meeting on November 5th, so I think Nintendo most likely decided to fill this extra time (Q1 2025 and possibly Q2 2025) with the most requested ports.
As for why Nintendo would take this long to drop the next console, I genuinely would have no clue. I think the first internal delay rumors gave launch window games not being ready as a reason so maybe that is it? I guess Nintendo is a victim of extremely long dev times now as well now that we're entering a new era with much more power available for the system... I'm a little worried that the console will feel dated on arrival because I think the specs were rumored to be finalized way back in 2022.
If we go by the 6 months mass production rule and a reveal happening between January-March (because as someone pointed out here Nintendo will wait for the Black Friday sales to be over before announcing it), the release window gets narrowed down to between June and August. Maybe Nintendo can even push it further to Holiday 2025 but I feel like that'd be self sabotage at this point.
I... can wait that long, even though it'll suck that we'll have to deal with more ports from Nintendo until then and it'll take much longer for my favorite third party series to move onto Switch 2. As much as I love the Switch, I am more than ready for everyone to move on from this system already. I need to see the Switch 2 exclusive Pokemon games and SoS games made with Switch 2 in mind already!

I am thrilled to see XCX make its return. Also, in case the little bit at the end of the trailer was confusing for some people, this is likely a tease for an additional scenario (most likely happening after the main game). The Definitive Edition of Xenoblade Chronicles had something similar.
There's not much information around so I'll just wait for it to flow naturally. If there's any QoL improvements, I sure do hope that some of it is about party management because boy did running across the city to add a party member into the active roster just to check what level they're at was a lot of nonsense.
Some are still speculating that the next Nintendo console is already going through manufacture but they're ain't ready to launch it until they have secured a big enough supply (aka not get immediately sold out) and attempting to advertise it when so far away from their target date would cannibalize their current Switch game sales which, albeit likely not astronomical, is still relevant enough for their current fiscal year.
Personally with Mario & Luigi: Brothership, I'm basically all set for the rest of the year and XCX in March will be a nice thing. I got too many games to play through already.

Yeah I've been hearing for a while that the Switch 2 is already in production and that Nintendo is making double sure there is loads of stock so that the supply issues of the original Switch don't happen again and scalpers can't take over. I've heard the 'delay' (it was rumoured that S2 was meant to release in late 2024, initially) is because of that...that they're massing up stock to flood the market with so that the console will be easy to acquire and the bad guys won't have a market.
However, there's no sense in believing rumours either way. There's no actual 6-month-after-reveal rule, life just isn't that tidy. Companies arrange things differently all the time because circumstances continually change. We'll know when we actually know. (And we may never know for sure exactly how long Nintendo was manufacturing the console for or when they started it, before release or before announcement or whatever.)
~
I wish they hadn't added the bit at the end of the trailer, since it's only good for people who've played already and know what it means. Just announcing extra story would be enough. But I'm not hopeful, as I didn't like Future Connected at all, and Torna only made that wide world even wider, without going any deeper, so it was a disappointment, too. And XC3 went backward instead of forward, which was unsatisfying. So all in all, I don't think they do 'new added content' very well. Not for me, anyway. Even if it's fun, it's always disappointing in terms of what it reveals/how it expands the game universe. So I'm more nervous about XCX's added content than I am hopeful about it. I hope it doesn't do anything to my beloved game that ruins in for me. I already dislike the style shift, though I can overlook it since the world looks the same.

I've been really busy lately so I just happened to scroll across the Xenoblade X news and excitement this morning on Twitter and I decided to pop in here since I remembered it was Kikki's favorite. I've only played the DE version of the original, but I liked it ok, especially the beautiful world and snappy music. Haven't really planned to play 2 or 3, but I have heard multiple people praising Xenoblade X as way better, so I am very curious now that it would be accessible to try. The story is stand-alone right?

X is very DIFFERENT.greensara wrote: ↑Oct 30, 2024 4:04 am I've been really busy lately so I just happened to scroll across the Xenoblade X news and excitement this morning on Twitter and I decided to pop in here since I remembered it was Kikki's favorite. First of all...yes, it stands alone. If that's your only concern, then there's the short answer and the rest can be skipped, lol.
It is 100% unconnected, at least as things stand now. I suppose they could cook up some jiggery pokery in the future and force a connection, but nothing in X now is connected to the numbered Xenoblade games (1, 2, or 3.) The biggest connection is some silly references. For example, the character Lin. Her barrette is shaped like the Monado. That kind of thing is the only connection between the numbered games and X. And the Nopon exist in X as well, though they're a Xenoblade staple. Apparently nopon must be in every game.
X is also very sci-fi in comparison, where the other Xenoblades would be fantasy, especially to begin, gradually moving into science fantasy as you progress.
And most importantly I think is that you play an AVATAR character that you make for yourself, male or female, not a defined character that has a story written by the devs. So your character isn't exactly the MC, not the same way Shulk is, or Rex or Noah. I mean, they're there for everything and gradually regarded as a great fighter/etc, but they're a character you make up and name, so they don't receive much character development. They aren't part of a story, exactly. I think this really threw people after playing Shulk as the MC.
I think it works really well, as the story is about humanity as a whole. You're just a little part of it, doing your best, and you're unusually good...but even so, you're one tiny person and it needs every last existing human to do their best, to be able to survive in such overwhelming circumstances. You see the game through your character's eyes, but it's a very different kind of main character, and I think it really knocked people off balance, expecting something a lot more like the first Xenoblade game.
Mira (the world of X) is even more beautiful than the Bionis/Mechonis, and the music is, imo, also even better, though I do think that XC1 has the next most beautiful world and music. (The music was really toned down in 2 and 3.)
The overwhelming standout of X is the exploration. It's fantastic. The best game of exploration I've ever played, more than BotW (or TotK), for me, though I do also love those games. I love the probes and the scenic viewpoints and all the little hidden places you can find, and the things you can salvage. I like the MMO-style combat, too, and the general MMO feel of the gameplay. Think WoW or FFXIV, kind of, in gameplay feel, except without actual humans waiting their turn in your game.
But I certainly can't guarantee that lovers of the numbered Xenoblades will love X. It's got a different vibe. The combat is most similar to 1.

Not directly a video game, but related.
NGL, my biggest gripe about Spotify is the lack of full game OSTs. I can get all my other favorite genres, but it's a toss up when it comes to a video game. You need NSO to access this though, and hell if I can remember my password right now lol. Guess I'll reset it... again...

X's combat system is probably the deepest of all 4 games. It's pretty easy to do 'okay' with it and get through the story, but if you want to tackle anything 'extra', you have to understand it better.
But I'm betting they'll add an easy mode to this like they did to XCDE and all the others, so perhaps even that will become accessible in the remake, or whatever they're calling this. Definitive...remaster? I'm not sure.
I'm honestly extremely happy about this, but at the same time, I'm worried that they'll bugger it up by adding weird things. I don't want them to try to connect this game to the other three, at the very least. It really CAN'T be connected to the same universe. So I don't want them to try to warp it in that way. And I'm not sure what they'll do about QoL issues and other silly things. I'm thinking they'll make it easier all round with more options to turn on or off, to customize gameplay, because X really is the most difficult of all the games. By a fair shot, if you're looking at post game content.

Nintendo music, cool They've got some pretty nice stuff, so that might be worth checking out.

You're right actually, Kikki. It's actually impossible to know what's actually going behind the scenes with how Nintendo has been able to do stuff in secrecy more than ever before. For all we know, the mass production could have not even started or be half way done. If there's one thing we can take away from all the recent surprise announcements from Nintendo, it's that there is no set formula for how things will unfold; stuff related to a huge deal like Switch 2 won't be able to be predictable based on previous patterns such as Nintendo Directs and past console cycles that had different circumstances.
Once again, all I can say is that I can wait, quite easily actually. I still can't manage to find time to complete my backlog because Nintendo keeps throwing such good new games at me even when the Switch is at its last legs which is quite a feat for them especially as compared to the past. Even if Switch 2 is somehow a late 2025 release, XCXDE, Metroid Prime 4, RF: Guardians of Azuma, Legends ZA, and the next SoS will most likely release on Switch before that, and honestly, all these titles will keep me more than occupied that the wait for it won't feel like anything. For now, I'd like to focus on near future so I'm personally really excited to try out XCXDE for the first time ever.

I'm not in a hurry because I have no money, lol.
I'm sure the Switch 2 will be really fun, because even the Wii U was tons of fun for me. (Though the Wii was better...the Wii U wasn't really much of an improvement on it, except a graphic jump.) Nintendo makes fun games and interesting consoles. Really, the Wii U was cool...the gamepad feels like it paved the way for the Switch. I know I was always wishing I could detach it and keep playing on the gamepad while I went elsewhere.
I don't know much else, but I think it'll be fun and interesting, and I think since it seems very likely to be backwards compatible, that it will be successful from the start because it'll begin with a huge library. And I bet the most recent releases will all reveal upscaled versions for S2. (The "Ounce", lol.)
Didn't Fantasy Life i give a release date of April 2025? I dunno, gang. I think either the S2 is getting released early, or all the games already planned for 2025 are holding back upscaled versions of the Switch release that will be playable only on S2. Of course, if it's backwards compatible, all Switch games will be playable on it anyway, so probably no loss to release before S2 comes out.
Just my speculation, though. I sure don't need S2 in March. I don't think I can get enough money for it that soon.
Not that I'd wish it delayed just for my convenience, though, if it IS planned for then. Nintendo's managed to hold the details back so far. I'm not going to believe any rumours or speculation at this point, I'm just going to wait and see. I'm sure it'll be fun.
Hoping for a new Ring Fit Adventure with a bigger range of exercises and more exercise slots to put them in. I hate having to swap all the exercises out every time Allegra, Armando or Abdonis show up, and then swap them back in for a more balanced routine when they go.
I guess I'm actually glad XCX will play on current Switch, though I'm still surprised and very much wondering how it's going to work on one screen (though I always said they'd find a way to do it if they decided there was money in a re-release!) Being on original Switch means it won't have as much power, most likely, but at least I don't have to wait until I can afford a whole new console to play it.

It's funny, I had the opportunity to play X back in the day and didn't. My husband literally only bought a WiiU to play it - because my man is OBSESSED with giant robots (Transformers, Gundam, ect) so he naturally gravitates to media featuring them. I know for a fact that he loved it, but was more or less done once he completed the game. In comes me, freshly married to him and we're cleaning out out his childhood room to fit both our needs. I find the WiiU, question its existence as we both already have Switches and I get the explanation. At the time, I only liked Xenoblade 2, having tried the first game on 3DS and not enjoying it while its sequel scratched and itch I didn't know I had. I figured it'd be like that 'one' game out of a series I'd like and we both agreed to get rid of the WiiU.
Years later, Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive comes out and I've mellowed out. I buy it, play it, and enjoyed it. Xenoblade 3 then arrives and I played and enjoyed it too. Now I've been pinning for not only X to get released on Switch, but for the other adjacent games being held hostage to be remastered/remade as well (The Xenosaga games and Xenogears - owned by Bandai Namco and Square Enix respectfully). I've grown to love this series and universe as a whole and it's great that the four main Nintendo 'Xenos' are available on one platform. Crossing my fingers for Bamco and SE to get their thumbs out of their « Mr.Gourmet's shoes » next.

Warning to anyone who wants to play X just for the mech you can pilot and customize. (In X they call it a skell.)
You can't do so right away. (I don't know if anyone will think this spoils something so behind a cut it goes!)

But speaking of music, this announcement is for Asia, but it has English support. If you like Disney music and rhythm games, this might be for you. Disney Music Parade: Encore Mind you, I don't think it's actually a rhythm game. I'm not sure precisely what it is, since you can play it in multiplayer. But I have NO sense of timing, so it's not for me, I'm quite sure.
