I am super pumped about the Animal Crossing update! I haven't touched it in a long time, but this looks almost as good as when they added the DLC. The price for the Switch 2 upgrade isn't bad either (whenever I get enough saved up to get one). My daughter wanted me to stop my plans to play Pokémon yesterday so we could work on prepping for the new stuff, lol! It's coming in January girl, we got time.

Just saw some of the preorders for Monster Hunter Stories 3 are getting set up, and the physical Switch 2 version (I don't believe it is planned for regular Switch) is a key-card. :( Guess when I will wait to pick that up digitally on sale, though I have the physical of the other two.

It's unexpected, and it's cool...though I really don't think it'll last. Even the 2.0 update only brought people back for two or three months, and this is definitely smaller. There's a fair amount of new items, but you can tell by the slider that it's nowhere NEAR the amount of items they added in 2.0, not even if you count the different sections (since the Lego stuff, for example, is not in the Hotel. At least, I don't think it was included there.)

There's probably stuff that wasn't covered in video, but I still think that this willl, at best, have about half the content of 2.0. It's good stuff, but if you have the DLC, most if it isn't going to feel all that new, since we're already used to decorating.

I figure I'll be lucky to be drawn back for a month, by this. Not sure about other people, but that's my bet for me.

I still don't want this to be something intended to make us wait two extra years or something. Right now, my best guess is that we will see an announcement of a new (mainline) AC game in 2026, to be released sometime in 2027, and that what will happen is that it will end up delayed, so that it actually releases late mid-late 2027 or early-mid 2028.

That's 100% guesswork, but it's my best shot at something realistic that feels in tune with Nintendo and previous releases and current trends. But if this was meant to make us content to wait even longer, maybe they don't mean to release even as early as that, and that'd be very meh.

Oh well. I have a ton of other games to play, since all of the Switch 1 stuff can still be played on 2. I do hope they start getting more stuff built for S2 though, and soon. Stuff that won't run on S1 at all. The reason being that any game that is built to run on S1 simply isn't built to make full use of the S2. Otherwise all the games we'll get are higher resolution, higher FPS S1 games. Like, TotK had to have stuff like that awful fog all the time, and it also had to have fewer forageables and the blood moon and etc, because the S1 didn't have the processing power to handle all that extra data. I want them to be able to build games without crutches like that, more than I want high resolution and 60FPS.

I don't know about you guys, but my game didn't look pixelated like that when I zoomed in on picture mode. And otherwise, the game doesn't look any different to me. The QoL features are the important part of the upgrade, imo.

I don’t think they’ll stop making games for switch 1. Because they want people experience games on whatever system they have. I mean, sure they’ll stop eventually but as for right now they’ll keep making games

Of course they're not going to just STOP. I don't think that's EVER happened. (Not until an eshop goes offline, generally a few years after the console stops being manufactured.) It's going to be gradual, and decrease more and more as time goes by, especially as more and more people buy the S2. It's the same in every console generation. Nintendo and AAA companies will probably be the ones to move on first, since they tend to be making the biggest, most technically-demanding games. We already have a few games like that. Age of Imprisonment won't run on Switch 1. Some of the new features for ACNH won't run on Switch 1. Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bananza, Kirby Air Riders. And a couple of other fairly big-name games from other companies.

Personally, I'm tired of games being held back by the Switch's extremely low processing power, so I'd rather it happen sooner than later. Certainly for the AAA games. Not so much for the indies.

I don't think they give a hoot about people experiencing the games. Just buying them. They want people to buy games on whatever console they have. I expect the amount of games being released that are still compatible with S1 will correlate pretty well to how fast the S2 sells. It's doing better than I thought. I thought it'd be slower than the S1, but actually, S2 is selling even more than S1 did at it's launch. Not sure if that momentum is going to continue or not, though. I think it'll slow down. It's beating S1 because they made so many more S2s before release, whereas there was a shortage of S1s for the first...half year, I guess it was?

They will eventually phase the Switch 1 out just as the PS5 is doing with the PS4. As in, the PS4 doesn't get every big release any more, but still gets games regardless. We can't really expect each new release to have a copy for the lesser system that's on its way out. Like, I'm being deadass here; Pokemon Scarlet and Violet should have been Switch 2 launch titles instead of struggling on vanilla Switch. That game is too big for it and that's why it runs like garbage. Legends ZA is a smaller scope game, so it seems to be fine on both, but I highly, HIGHLY doubt we'll be seeing Generation 10 on Switch.

On the Animal Crossing update; I'm neutral on it. New Leaf had a 'last hurrah' update too (it was just before HHD iirc) so I'm viewing this around the same kinda thing. I accidentally deleted my island like an idiot, and the recovery option didn't work, so I haven't been back to it since. I had a 'perfect' island and was only missing a fish or two, so, IDK, I don't know if I want to do it all over again. Still, had a coworker come up to me excited yesterday that he can't wait to get back into the game, so, yeah, good for him and everyone else who's excited. I may -try-, the upgrade is only 5 bucks, so eh, we'll see how I feel in January.

I feel like Nintendo and other AAA devs will be making games for the Switch 2, and include a stripped-down version for Switch 1 when possible, as long as possible...but that Switch 2 is very soon going to become the primary focus for all new games. We're still at a point where a lot of devs aren't developing specifically for 2, yet, but that's going to change before too long, imo.

Plus we're probably going to get a ton of ports of high-end games from other consoles, now, that can finally be made to work on Switch (2). Like they did with Cyberpunk and uh...oh yeah. FFVII Remake. I figure we're gonna get a bunch more port announcements like that. Those will never work on 1, because they've failed to come to 1 already for all of its existence and only now that the Switch has more processing power are they able to try to make games like that work on Nintendo's console.

I figure that none of Nintendo's first-party game that are new entries into flagship series that are announced from now on...Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, Xenoblade, Animal Crossing, etc...are going to be playable on Switch 1. They'll be designing from the ground up for 2.

But indie devs will probably be making stuff for 1 for a long time. Maybe mid-level devs as well, like Marvelous. Cuz they're not really an AAA group, imo.

Ugh, saw a video about 'AC 3.0 Rumors'. And there isn't a single actual rumour in the video. Rumours, in gaming, are supposed OFFICIAL INFO that is not yet confirmed/proven to be true. But this video is just discussing fan theories about the content of the trailer. Differing options of whether the megaphone will come to Switch 1, for example, or if Capp'n's daughter will have a function or not.

Those aren't rumors, dammit. It's just fan theories and discussion.

The megaphone CAN'T come to Switch 1 as the same thing, because it relies on the microphone. It's voice-activated. So that's not remotely possible. BUT...I don't see why the megaphone couldn't still come to Switch 1, if Nintendo wanted. Because it doesn't HAVE to be voice activated. Instead of having the microphone take commands via the microphone...you could just press a button, then have a menu pop up with 'who do you want to call for?' and a list of villagers to select from. Then that villager could reply. Just...totally eliminate the need for a microphone on the original Switch.

Not that I'm saying I think it WILL come to Switch 1. I just don't see any reason why it can't, if Nintendo decides they can be bothered to make it work.

Anyway, that video bugged me. And all the other videos, identical to each other. "30 secrets you missed about ACNH 3.0!' or "20 details you missed about the new AC update!" or...etc. They all contain exactly the same stuff, that NO ONE ACTUALLY MISSED. We got all those the first time, you view hogs. And now I'm seeing videos about "6 things you NEED to do before 3.0!!" And a bunch of nearly identical videos with slightly differing titles.

I'm not WATCHING them, mind you, because I have no intention of 'prepping' anything in advance.

You don't NEED to do a single thing. What's the point of doing ANYTHING before the update hits? Why shorten the duration of fun you can get out of the update itself by trying to get stuff done in advance? The game doesn't need you to do anything at all for the update to happen, unless you've started a new island. If you have, you probably have to hit 3 stars with your island (unlocking whatshisface, sing-y dog whose music all sounds terrible.) because I know some progression is required, as with most other things, like unlocking Harv's Co-op and so forth.

I dunno. I think AC YouTubers are just trying to milk this desperately for views and follows. There's no actual content out there, right now. It's all just the trailer being bled dry, with nothing new coming out of it.

Bleck.

Aaaaand I got called in to work this afternoon. Yays. I'm still tired and clenched-up from yesterday. But hey, money. I'd rather have rest, but I probably NEED money.

I don’t think there’s nothing wrong with getting everything ready. Like I don’t have nook miles so I’m probably going work on that. I personally think it’s helpful but you have your options.

Yes, I do. And I think doing all this prep actually reduces the fun. And I hate these videos that claim you NEED to do this or that (exact quote from the last video I saw. Had NEED in the title, and in all-caps, too.) before the update. NO. YOU. DON'T. You can do it, if you want, but you certainly do not NEED to. And it may all be wasted effort, since we don't actually know how this is going to work, yet.

No one even knows if we're going to need Nook Miles. And I already have tens of thousands of them anyway. I think most people do, unless for some reason they're always trading them in on...what could you trade them for at this point? To trade for bells, or Nook Mile Tickets, I guess. But I don't do that, so they just accumulate endlessly once you have nothing left you need to redeem them for.

Whoever wants to do this or that in preparation for 3.0 can do so. But the claims of us NEEDING to do it are bugging the fudge outta me. And all based on speculation, to boot.

...Lord, if they get this game right, it is going to do so well. If Nintendo isn't giving us anything Animal Crossing after the 3.0 update, this is going to fill the hole for a lot of people.

I just dare Nintendo to try to sue Hoyoverse. Please, go on. Apparently they're not even winning against Pocketpair, right now. It seems to be their MO to try to tackle little guys who can't fight back, to set a legal precedent, to then be in a stronger position to tackle slightly bigger guys.

But it's not working for them at the moment, and hooray to that. Stop trying to own ideas, Nintendo. Specific designs, sure. But basic ideas...concepts...no. Especially in gaming, which is built so heavily on genres.

I don't actually like the looks of Petit Planet, myself. And it felt weird that the whole thing was set to the music of Baa Baa Black Sheep. I had "Yes sir, yes sir, three bags full!" going through my head the whole time. Being set to an improvised-around nursery rhyme really makes it feel like the game is for little kids. Like, really little ones.

Still, no reason to be unhappy if Nintendo has a serious competitor that they can't litigate into submission. (Though a lot of the designs in that are taken straight out of ACNH, like the house and the fences and etc. Mostly just colours or patterns were changed. Which...I'd like to see them do their OWN style of all those things, rather than just copy Nintendo.)

To be fair, their intention was for it to be 'Twinkle-Twinkle Little Star' lol. At least three kid's songs share the same tune (the other one being the ABC's song), but considering Petit Planet is themed around space/planets, that was their aim. You're not alone in those thoughts though, I've seen a lot of people slightly turned off by the choice of song. I think it's cute, but I get it lol.

I went through YT and found someone with a nice, simple and basic look at the beta.

And I'm pretty sure this isn't everything as most videos covering the beta are at least 3 hours long. Regardless, I like what I see and considering there's no gacha in the beta, this may be a free to play with optional purchases for cosmetics like Warframe. I can see that working with this type of game a lot more than gacha mechanics, but Hoyo is Hoyo, so we'll have to see.

All three are nursery rhymes, so for me it works out to the same thing even if they meant for it to be perceived as Twinkle, Twinkle.

It looks almost entirely based on ACNH, with some things so obviously copied that it's a little insulting, and definitely rather boringly unoriginal, and I don't care for that. I would rather they had taken just the basic idea and run more with their own ideas and designs after that.

I say that, but I hate their characters, lol, the one really original-looking thing. Not the player character...the animal characters. They are SO ugly. That big dog thing is okay, but the two girl characters, the pink rabbit and the orange fox thing...YUCK. If they're supposed to be cute, it's not a definition of cute I can agree with. They look overpainted, like animals wearing very heavy makeup and an entire tube of hair gel. Makes me think of an animal version of Jem and the Holograms. (1985. I hear there's some newer version but I'm unfamiliar with it.) The player character is really cute, wish they'd make the other characters more adorable, too.

Well, it'll probably be fun, in the same vein as ACNH. It probably has similar progression, with things unlocking. And I figure they'll update it tons and listen to feedback pretty well, so it'll probably end up being more addictive than ACNH, which itself is pretty addictive...until you run out of content.

I hate gacha with a fiery passion, so will be waiting to see about that, for sure. No way is Hoyoverse not gonna find a way to make lots and looooots of money.

EDIT: I think other videos are probably 3 hours long because they're unedited captures of livestreams, more than because there's so much content. Plus this video only covered the first day of the game and I think other ones cover multiple days. Probably?

Yup. Josh played it yesterday and he unlocked a few things
