maybe at least that will be back, with the large amount of customization available in this game.
Official Japanese site has been updated. Specifically, there's a new page in the Farm tab, about some stuff like upgrading your house and finding chests in puddles and so on. And there's new content in the Town tab, too...though I couldn't see what they were. For some reason no images would load for me. I think there's new bits about customization, new resident info, and...I think info on your child. It's kind of looking like the child will look the same no matter what you or your spouse looks like, but I can't be sure. To me it looks like the child is modelled after the MC's default appearance.

Aaah, I really like both of their designs! Usually I go for the son, but I think this time it might be a little more difficult to choose this time. A bit disappointing that they aren't going to take after their other parent, especially considering there are no portraits, so this would have been the time to do it. Unfortunately I don't have hope for getting ToT/AP children anytime soon, but a girl can dream.

It actually looks like the child takes after both parents? The eye color of the baby in the in-game screenshot is different than the images of the grown up kids on the website. But then the hair color still matches the player’s hair color. Maybe the hair color that the player has when the kid is born is what they’ll have.
Edit: I double checked to see what eye color Linh had because I couldn’t remember but it doesn’t match the kid in the screenshot? In fact, it all matches more with Reina than anyone else. I’m done speculating on this topic, I’m too tired and confused lol

Both the infant and the child actually have the same hair and eye colour, as far as I can tell, though the older child's appear to be slightly lightened (maybe just because they're a bit bigger, I don't know.) The baby boy (and child boy) have light-medium brown hair and darker brown (or maybe black?) eyes, like the default male player character. The baby girl (and child girl) both have light-medium brown hair and greenish eyes, like the default female character. Actually, the baby's eyes look really indistinct to me in colour...maybe the baby is identical regardless of whether it is male or female, and it just gets a different eye colour when it becomes a child? Not enough pictures for me to be sure about what I'm seeing in that regard.
So if you marry, say, Iori or Jack, and customize your character to be a redhead with blue eyes, it's looking like neither of the children will look like either of you at all. They're really cute, though. I guess this is just a world where babies really are brought pre-packaged by the stork. No messy grab-bag baby created by any birds and bees in Olive Town.
Though of course, in the example they show, they actually used the default male, and Lin has pretty much the same colour eyes as the baby boy, but right now I'm thinking that's just coincidence and the baby won't change appearance regardless of who you marry. Guess we'll know if they ever show us a shot of a baby/child that looks totally different.

There is still a tiny chance that they only showed the default artwork for the promotion but still let the children take after your spouse. In Trio's case they showed only Wayne's child at first but had still varieties for the children. SoS's promo had Angela's children as a example. And even AP had official artworks for the children which look basically like the MC.
Yeah, as far as I can see, we've gotten one image of the baby facing forward, and one of it toddling from behind, toward Default Male and Lin. (Or is her name Rin? I can't remember what Xseed said, now.) We haven't seen any in-game image of them as older children, just the concept art. (Though sometimes pictures weren't loading for me on the official Japanese site, so...coulda missed one.) Kinda hard to tell at this point if it could change appearance in any way depending on your spouse. Or you, even, I guess? Since they only ever use the default-appearance characters in their videos/screenshots.
Wow, it looks like the Japanese site added a lot more of the regular villagers to their listed roster since the last time I looked. It's shaping up to be a pretty big cast. Looks like Rash? is the name of the younger rocker looking guy some folks were interested in (takes after his brother looks) and there's an adorable red-headed girl, Beth, that may be Jacob's sister since she's listed with the gal I believe is his mom? There were more younger-but-not-child characters listed than I remember. I am excited to see the character development and interaction for sure. Also, the mystery forest girl has her own spot!

Linh’s eye color is a light brownish red color, and the picture of the baby’s eyes are a dark grey color. I thought that maybe it was the lighting, but it really does just have no hue at all to it. Unfortunately the male character had his eyes closed during the next screenshot so no one can tell if they changed the default eye color, but they could have because I know that they’ve changed it sometimes for the female character as they’ve made her eyes brown sometimes instead of the light green in the official art.
I did think that maybe that maybe it was just grey until the baby aged up, but it’d be lame to not pay attention to that detail since we get a cutscene looking at them so up close. But like I said, I didn’t want to speculate too much since we know so little and we’ll probably get more info soon. : p I just wanted to give some people a little hope on a child that changes its appearance. It’s such a small detail that seems unimportant but makes people happier.
As for some of the new NPCs on that roster, I think this is the first time I’ve ever been upset that some of them aren’t actually marriage candidates.

Between the site's Google translate and that article I'm a little confused about some of the characters' relationships, but good to have more information nonetheless. The way they worded it, I wonder if Karina and Gene ( I think those are their names) are an item? If that's the case I wonder what other relationships/couples villagers are already in that keeps them off the candidates list?
