I also played a couple hours of Elden Ring today. Really enjoying it! Banged my head against Margit, who I presume is the first mandatory boss (at least, it's the only one I've seen thus far with a cutscene) for a while before I realized I should probably wander around and explore first, because my « Harvest Goddess » did he absolutely wreck me over and over. The delayed attacks are really tough to get down, especially for people who spam dodge rolls (aka me). I got close to beating it a few times, but I picked the mage class and sold my sword.... so when I run out of FP I'm literally useless. Selling that sword was not my smartest move lol.

I have off work tomorrow, so will be getting nice and cozy with Elden Ring all day. Going to do a lot of exploring and maybe get past Margit. I have to learn to get used to the fact that this game is open world and there are plenty of things for me to do if I'm not up for getting smacked around by a boss.

Hooooome!

Exhausted, and had grandma trying to break out of the house at 7AM this morning before anyone else was up, so I had to do some quick darting around to get her into her winter coat and let her out so she could convince herself that it was too cold to try to just walk off (it was -23C at that time. Not quite 'yikes!' cold, but pretty danged close.) Things were pretty okay the rest of the day, though to keep things calm, I do have to spend hours beside her. I find she'll wind herself up if I even leave for too long of a potty break.

But I'm home now, anyway. For three nights and two days, whee. :) And I find I can play a graphic novel without much trouble when I'm with her, though I do have to talk to her continually so it's a bit distractedly. I'm thinking of combing the eshop for non-otoge graphic novels before I return on Tuesday morning.

I still think Variable Barricade is quite good, though I'm in the common route. The gimmick for the story structure is cool, a little like what's in Psychedelica, but better.

I also got 3 stars in Wodewyrd today. All I did was nab a few of my former belongings from Gardenia (the ones I dumped in there from Windfall.) I smacked down two lighthouses and 40 pieces of fencing and boom, 3-stars. (This is making me want to play 3 Stars of Destiny! And maybe Millennium, while I'm at it.) Anyway, yeah...I guess this means I'll have my landscaping tomorrow! I have plans. Plus I think that's when Harvey opens his artists' co-op.

I should go back into the game and visit the clothing shop, but I'm too tired. Well, no hurry, I suppose.

When's RF5? March...22, was it? Hmm. I kind of doubt I'll be able to play it much at my parents place, so it may end up being a weekend thing.

Bought an absolutely disgusting number of Picross games from the 3DS eShop. On one hand, there are at least 5 very good Picross games on Switch I haven't played, but on the other, I didn't want to miss out on Jupiter picross. They're so good!

I started with the free Pokemon one, which I originally skipped due to the freemium model. I love the mechanics, but WOW it's really predatory. I wound up buying the 2 packs of currency for $5 total since the game is free, but it won't get another cent from me. I'm not sure you can beat it without buying more currency. The other odd thing is that I've run across a couple puzzles (in the mural section) that I don't think can be solved without guessing, which Jupiter picross usually doesn't do.

I got stuck in Puzzles & Dragons Switch, too, which is a bummer. I did clear the multiplayer event dungeon and one of the permanent ones, but I got stuck around level 10 (of 15?) of the campaign. I have 3 decent parties now, but none of my badge bonuses really compliment them, and none of them are ticking the weaknesses of the dungeon. You also have to be quite good at the puzzles to trigger bonuses. I'm getting better, but... ^_^;;; A couple more teams might help, but now that I'm hitting a level cap wall, I'm not sure how easily I'll get them, even with a new event. I'm currently level 54/55, and my next level reward is for one of the paid machines, but unless I get a good bonus badge, it won't help.

Elden Ring stuff.

Okay, so I fought a DIFFERENT "Watchdog" boss that looked a lot less like a cat than this one yesterday. Much faster, much more aggressive. Today, my summons mostly took care of the boss. I have 4 summons now, most of which appear to be entirely useless. I keep hearing that magic is overpowered in this game... Where is that stuff? Maybe the point is to make you work for the overpowered stuff. (I found one NPC that sells spells, but I have no wand...)

I did get TWO NPC invasions today too, both of which found me when I was out of healing. >:| Grrr.

And Margit was right where I expected from the sound of it. I fought them once, got them down by about 1/4 health, died, and continued my running around and farming.

Genshin is completely dead at this point, I think we're just waiting for the next event. I don't feel like doing any more hangouts.

Got home from work and helped the FiL through a Trial in FFXIV. I booted up Elden Ring and ran away from an overworld boss while exploring, falling off a cliff into a ravine. Now my Runes are stuck down there and I have no idea how to get down there. Feelsbadman. I'll probably try when I'm better rested and not exhausted from work. It is only 600 runes though, so I won't feel too badly if I die before gaining them back.

I'm probably going to go full Triangle Strategy mode once the 3rd rolls around. I expect multiple endings/routes like Three Houses and I intend to get them all. Found out the game has a 'very easy' mode and bless them for having the option. I just wanna relax and absorb the story and atmosphere first and foremost.

Spoiler:
Currently playing:

Art Academy: Lessons for Everyone (3DS)
The Expression Amrilato (Steam/PC) (for learning Esperanto)
Hatsune Miku connecting puzzle Tamagotori (Switch)
Puzzle and Dragons Nintendo Switch Edition (Switch)
Best Friend Forever (Switch)
Coromon Demo (Steam/PC)

Side projects:

Pokemon Shining Pearl (complete the Sinnoh Pokedex, so I can get the national pokedex and receive Shaymin)
Pokemon Legends Arceus (Complete post-game and new post-game content)

Recently beat:

Pokemon Legends Arceus (Switch)
The Land of Screens (Switch)
Letters - A Written Adventure (first playthrough) (Switch)

Games beat in 2022: 3

Upcoming games that I'm going to play:

Distant Memorajo (Steam) (for learning Esperanto; will play after The Expression Amrilato)
Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc (Switch)
Kirby Planet Robobot (3DS)

Demos I'm interested in playing:

Suhoshin demo (on Steam) (A Korean visual novel taking place during the Joseon Dynasty (1397-1897) where you investigate a string of mysterious murders.)
Two Leaves and a bud Tea Garden Simulator demo (on Steam)
Chinatown Detective Agency demo (on Steam)
Heart & Soul demo (on Steam)
I made some more progress in Best Friend Forever. I think I'm a little over halfway done with my first playthrough. :)

In the Coromon demo, I'm still 2-3 hours away from completing it due to idle time and doing some side quests.

In Puzzle and Dragons Nintendo Switch Edition, I'm 4/5 of the way to getting the 500-point achievement.

On the Nintendo 3DS, I bought Tappingo (Tappingo 1), since it was on sale for $2. Apparently, there was a Tappingo 2, but it seems like it was removed from the Nintendo 3DS e-shop. :?: It's a puzzle game, similar to Piczle Lines DX and Piczle Lines DX: 500 More Puzzles on the Nintendo Switch.

Also, in celebration of Pokemon Day, on the Pokemon Direct, there was new content released for Pokemon Brillant Diamond and Pokemon Shining Pearl, and Pokemon Legends Arceus. So, in addition to the current games I'm playing I have 2 new side projects. In Pokemon Shining Pearl, I have to complete the Sinnoh Pokedex so I can get Shaymin, and in Pokemon Legends Arceus, I have to complete the post-game and explore the new Post-game content added with the new, free update.
Spoiler:
Also, Generation 9, Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet were announced.

My gaming MO at the moment remains 'play anything that relaxes/does not stress'. Which means nothing that makes me feel rushed in the game (Portia unfortunately winds me up in that way...makes me feel in a perma-hurry. Which is fine when my life is normal, but not so good when I'm on-call non-stop for 5 days in a row. The 'weekend' is great for loosening the knots, but I have to maintain my 'no unnecessary tension' rule then, too, if I'm to reap the full benefit of being in my own quiet home.

I did a crazy amount of terraforming in Wodewyrd today. It looks great if you ignore the disarray of unfinished areas that need buildings juggled around and bridges/inclines added before they can be completed. Though it'll look MUCH better once I have the bushes and flowers to fill in the walkways. I need a LOT. We're talking about 200 camellias, lol. I'm thinking of changing the bushes every time their season is up. I really like hydrangeas best because of that blue, but they have such a short bloom time...only 50 days (compared to 61 for hibiscus and holly, 90 for camellia, and 112 for plumeria.) I don't want to have to dig up, store, and replant 200 bushes more often than I have to, so I haven't decided yet if I'll go with camellia, azalea, plumeria, olive, holly...or if I'll sacrifice an extra turn of work and stuff hydrangeas in, between azalea and and plumeria. It'd mean extra storage, too, blah. (Unless I rebuy them every time!)

Paid off Leif first, today, at the Artists' Co-Op, so at least I'll have him on hand all the time! I made a farm area, too, ready to fill in, though I have to move 3 houses before it'll be able to be completed.

Got so tired of terraforming that I was actually happy to quit and clean the house a bit. My sis is very nice, but she's a slob and a procrastinator, and she always throws things all over the entry stairs, coming in from the main door. I really hate that. It's the first thing you see when you open the door, and she dumps her shopping bags, the fliers, bags of driveway salt, and mail all over them...piles them up until it feels dangerous to try to traverse them while carrying even just your purse. *grr* It only took five minutes to stuff things away in the shed, her car, and the blue bin, but it's tidy, now. Why couldn't she just put those things away when she was done with them? I get why she doesn't clean the kitchen or even load the dishwasher...that's dirtier and takes longer...but don't just throw everything you're holding on the stairs we have to traverse every single time we go in and out of the house!

Variable Barricade is still fun, but I'm not in a hurry to get through it as it's the easiest thing to play in handheld while sitting with grandma. I haven't checked the eshop yet for other visual novel-types, yet. ACNH and VB will probably cover me until RF5, but I'm not sure I'll be able to play RF5. Will wait and see...might leave that game for later in the year, if necessary. Maybe I'll try paying RF4 again and see if that type of gameplay is helpful. Aiming for games that actually stabiliize me rather than merely fail make things worse. If it pulls me into my head, but releases me back into the real world quickly and easily, that's ideal...but hard to find! It's (distantly) possible that I'd get Pokemon Arceus or Snap rather than RF5, in April, even though I want RF5 a lot more. I'd rather play it when I can really sink in and enjoy it.

Hundred Days (the grape-growing and wine-making-and-selling sim) will be out tomorrow. Not sure where it fits in my order queue, atm.

If it helps, there’s card games on the switch. I like to play uno, it’s really easy and stress free. And there’s a option to play online.

Ah, yeah, thanks :) I tend to forget about super casual games like board, card, arcade, puzzle...stuff without any story, just pure gameplay. They are certainly very easy to set down or look away from continually, though, being only mildly absorbing and generally without a time limit. I once looked for good match-3 games on switch, but surprisingly, there aren't any high-quality ones, except maybe gems of war, which is pretty cool. Maybe I'll start a new Gems of War game under another profile. I was pushing my skill limit at the level I'd gotten to on my main profile. I want easy fun, not a challenge. Challenges are too absorbing.

EDIT: Finally got to the end of the common route of VB. It eventually became VERY clear who one of the side characters is, to the point where it feels like what is probably the 'secret' route won't be a surprise at all. I hope there are unusual twists in it to keep it from being predictable. Right now, though, the four main guys...I have no idea what is behind their strange personality traits. I don't like dogs much...I simply can't tolerate neediness or clinginess in people or animals...and I can't stand gluttons who eat other people's food even knowing that it's theirs and being told NOT to eat it (Dagwood comes to mind...you guys have no idea how passionately I have hated Dagwood Bumstead, lol. Dagwood Bumhead, I say!) so Nayuta does NOT appeal, not even to one atom of me, and I suspect I already know who/what he 'really' is/was. Ichiya is less cringy now, so he'll be okay, but it's Shion and Taiga that really interest me. I loved them in the common route, all the way through.

Anyway, as with food and everything else, I always save the best for last, and it really doesn't seem like order matters, so I'll be going with Nayuta, then Ichiya, and then I'm not sure whether it'll be Taiga then Shion, or the reverse. Then any other route that may crop up. (I guarantee it. Never seen an otoge that has only four candidates not turn out to have an alternate buried in there, and this one is pretty blatant, imo.)

Kiki - there's a puzzle/vn-type game called Murder by Numbers which is picross puzzles combined with a mystery-type story done by the creator of Hatoful Boyfriend (though I believe it's far less wacky than that one). I haven't played it to know how good the story is, etc. But it might be something to check out?

---

I (finally!) finished Cupid Parasite. Decided to try Shantae: Risky's Revenge next on my Switch Lite, partially because I wanted to use an action game to test the sticks for drift, but also because it was the last Shantae game I haven't played on Switch. I've beaten this one a lot, so I can clear it pretty fast! I'm doing 100% and taking my time, which will still only take 5-6 hours. Did the first third earlier today. I can't not use the d-pad to play though, so no drift testing for me. ^_^;

I also started Pokemon BD this weekend! Was really looking forward to playing this, and I'm enjoying it so far. It feels so good to play a new Pokemon game! I played through the initial/tutorial stuff and stopped just before the first gym. I feel bad about beating all those little kid trainers. ^_^; I got old since the last time I played Platinum, haha. It didn't bother me the last time I played Pokemon (some GBA hacks about a year ago), so maybe it was because this game feels more contemporary? No idea. Looking forward to that Shaymin!

Still playing long sessions of Portia on weekends too. Just opened the desert! It took me FOREVER to finish all the bridge pieces, good lord. Maybe two in-game weeks? And I didn't trigger other quests in the meantime, it was so slow. Mostly mined for ore. Thankfully, I somehow had enough tempering fluid to finish everything, though now I have nearly none and am only finding 1-2 per mine dive. Ugh. But I just triggered a metric ton of missions, so I'll be busy next time I play. I'm on day 2 of the snowball fight, and I think I'll pass Higgins after my next commerce commission! YES.

It feels like I have too many new games going, which is stressing me out... but I'm down to short sessions a couple times a day for Puzzle & Dragons and Pokemon Picross. I only need 1-2 more sittings to beat Risky's Revenge, and I only play Portia on weekends when I have time for long sessions. BD shouldn't take too long to beat either, so I think I'm okay for now!

Murder by Numbers? Okay, I'll have a look at it :) Anything that's interesting but very easy to set down quickly (no need to play further to get to a save point, or so absorbing that you lose track of time, etc.) is an option.

~

I just found out that shrubs count as trees in ACNH. :( I was a bit sad about that since it reduces the number you can have, but I'll look at it as an opportunity, instead. I don't like excess trees, so I'll use loads of shrubs and only place trees where they look and function best and chop every other one down.

Though I'm confused. A tree gives you 1 scenery point, and a shrub gives you 0.5. You can have 220 trees, but anything further will never grow, and if you pass 219, Isabelle will actually list it as a negative in your rating...that villagers are afraid they'll be lost in the woods.

But if shrubs only count for 0.5, does that mean you could have 440 shrubs before you'd get cautioned or before they stop growing? Or if you went half and half, then you could have 110 trees and 220 shrubs? I don't know! I already have 110 shrubs in town, but I haven't planted any fruit trees beyond my native peach and the sister pear, plus coconuts. (Though I have the other fruits...I just haven't gotten around to planting any of them.)

I need to start scanning in amiibo residents to replace this motley crew. It takes 3 days for each...that's an entire month before I'll have all the ones I want, with no time-travel, but I hadn't been thinking of it that way...I was taking my time. Will start scanning right away!

Finally began an actual route in VB but I keep having doubts. Are all these guys loser options, never meant to be taken seriously, with only one 'true' route? I think it's really good, but I hope that's not how it ends up feeling when it's all over. I hate when an otoge makes all your choices feel invalidated.

Oh, I can't recommend Murder by Numbers enough! If you enjoy picross puzzles and murder mysteries with some really fun characters, you're in for a good time! I really should go back and replay it from the beginning again; it's been long enough that I should have forgotten how to solve all the puzzles...

I really enjoyed the Daybreak Update for Pokemon Legends Arceus that came out yesterday; the new method of catching Pokemon is interesting. All the battling options they added for people seem enjoyable enough, but I honestly will stick to catching and shiny hunting. Eventually, I might start a new playthrough on a different Switch profile, but I'm content with this one for now.

Hello hello, saw this post and wanted to post my backlog. I pretty much started all these games but im so bad at actually finishing them. The few that i need to finish are:

- Hack//G.U
- Yakuza like a dragon
- Tale of Arise
- Astral Chain
- 13 Sentinels
- « Harvest Goddess » eater 3
- Disgaea 4
- Atelier Ryza

Anybody else got this problem of playing a game for a while and then moving on to another? lol

Welcome to the backlog thread! :) Any idea why you struggle to finish games? Most of those in your list are pretty long, so maybe it gets a little overwhelming?

I tend to get overwhelmed if I play too many games at once, so I try to stick to one or two. Probably also the best way to keep me from buying too many games. Its hard enough for me to keep different control schemes in my head, tbh. Remembering where I was in that many games would be too much.

--
As for my own game time, Genshin is still dead so it's all Elden Ring! I am doing next to no damage so I'm trying to level up enough to use a better weapon. And while doing that I've been exploring and questing.

Killed a few more bosses, all of them minor. Mostly just piddled with fighting Margit. I've considered turning online on and summoning but, the game's only going to get harder from here, and I am NOT used to not being able to animation cancel. I am a button masher, full stop. The games I usually play are very kind and let me change my mind in mid roll. Once I do more damage I think I'll be able to get it. With practice... and not panicking.

Done a surprising number of quests so far, honestly. People keep saying the world feels lonely, but I don't get that. I know it's a huge world, but there's got to be more friendly NPCs than any other Fromsoft game by a wide margin. All as interesting and important to the world as any other Miyazaki game. Finished a quest today that was PARTICULARLY odd. Spoilers in the tab.
Spoiler:
You go to a section of forest and happen to hear howling. Talking to a vendor at the start of the game, you tell him about the howling and he explains what to do about it, giving you a gesture to use in the spot to summon a big wolf man. Wolf man wants to take out an old friend/companion of his whose gone bad. You have to find where the friend is, summon wolf man to help you fight him, and you get the bad man's sword plus a small reward from wolf man! All without a quest log or NPCs repeating themselves.
Still doubtful I'll be able to beat this game, but I love it. GOTY, easy. Like, this is like the dream of what Breath of the Wild could have been on more powerful hardware. Remember seeing Akala Citadel and running up to it, thinking you could go inside and fight? You can do that here. A hundred times over. And if you play with friends, I don't even think the game's that difficult. Which is pretty cool.

It's day one of my month long vacation. I feel mildly overwhelmed having all this free time to do whatever I want instead of having to ration over my usual two days off. I plan on finishing a piece of art that's been sitting on my desktop since January, get my car's oil changed + get it inspected, and drag the husband to a few locales on his days off, but what about video games? Besides marathoning Triangle Strategy (and Rune Factory 5 later on in the month), I am probably going to try and finish one of the really big titles I'm sitting on. For now I'm feeling that I want to marathon Umineko, get the gigantic beast that it is done and off of my to-do list. In on video 64/150 with each video being 40 min - 2h+. I'm an insanely fast reader so I hike the video speed up to 2x to make it go a little faster. It's doable to get it finished, I'll just have to really commit to it for a good chunk of a week.

But now, as I'm two days away from one of my most anticipated games this year, I'm going to play through the update in Legends Arceus and go get Shaymin in Brilliant Diamond.
