I've considered turning online on and summoning but, the game's only going to get harder from here, and I am NOT used to not being able to animation cancel. I am a button masher, full stop. The games I usually play are very kind and let me change my mind in mid roll. Once I do more damage I think I'll be able to get it. With practice... and not panicking.
Oh yeah, Elden Ring definitely punishes button mashing pretty hard. It has some of the most aggressive bosses in the series, imo. The long combos with very little openings are brutal. I'd suggest trying to get used to doing one poke if you see an opening. Just one press of the attack button. Even if it looks like you can do more, don't get greedy until you're more comfortable with it. A lot of the bosses don't even allow you to do much more without getting murdered.

Alternatively, you could look for dex based weapons as they tend to be much faster. I'm currently using Reduvia, which is really fast and encourages you to get a bit spammy because it triggers bleed. Bleed is big fat damage after you get a lot of hits in, might have seen it on yourself already because those imp things in the catacomb dungeons are the WORST.

I started a new character a few days ago because I just wasn't feeling sorcery. I'm sure there's some good spells in the later game, but I was only using the ones you start with because all the spells I was finding or buying were straight up worthless. Also, I feel like all the interesting stuff is under incantations in this game. I'm finding so many that sound cool as hell, and pyromancy has always been a favorite of mine. I'll probably dabble in that eventually, but for now I'm just going to be fast and stabby.

Elden Ring is, predictably, the only game I'm playing atm. I'm absolutely loving it, which is really nice since I've kind of bounced off every other game I've played recently. Not sure I'll be able to pull myself away from it by the time Rune Factory 5 comes out, but we'll see.

I've been doing well on buying fewer games; so far in 2022 I've purchased 2, not including Jenny LeClue, which was free. I think I only have two other purchase *planned* for the year...RF5 and Xenoblade 3. My parents have given me a gift certificate, so RF5 is free! It will not count in my purchases, though it will count on my backlog. It'll be a physical copy, so it probably won't arrive on release day, though that's fine since I'm already figuring it'll probably be too absorbing to play most of the time.

I'll try RF5 when I get it, to see if it's something I can get away with playing in free moments with grandma, but if it's NOT, then it may be a long time before another game comes up for me, and I may get Pokemon: Arceus, if that's the case. Other options I've been sorting through that might suit my circumstances are:
  • Wytchwood
  • The House in Fata Morgana
  • Egglia or Legend of Mana (Not both, since they almost seem to be the same game)
  • Unpacking
  • suzerain
  • Hundred Days
  • Astroneer
  • Murder by Numbers
  • Famicom Detective Club (either one)
Definitely going to play some more Gems of War in the afternoons (a battle match-3 game with a high-fantasy D&D type of story.) Replays of anything on 3ds are an option, too, since replays are always more easy-going, and the 3ds is very easy to click shut and carry around anywhere. But Bokumono is too demanding...I'm thinking maybe I'll continue those various Phoenix Wright replays, or that Fantasy Life replay I had already set up, come to think of it! Replays save money, too. I've been doing so much replaying this year, I haven't felt it as much even though there are very few games releasing for me in 2022.

Everyone seems in love with Elden Ring (here and elsewhere); that's great! :) Glad you guys are having fun. I continue to look it up again every once in a while, wondering if I'm not missing something, but another look always tells me: nah, not my thing. I'd rather replay BotW or XCX. Though in fact, I don't think I own anything I could play it on anyway. Unless it'll play on ps4, maybe. But it doesn't look like a Kikki type of game so that's fine. The rest of the world seems to have more than enough love for it without mine. :)

Getting all my villager houses in their final places bit by bit in Wodewyrd. The farm area will finally be complete on Thursday. I'm having Kabuki take care of it; he's not actually a professional kabuki actor, imo, just an afficionado. A farmer is what he'll have to be in his regular time.

Sorry, Kikki. D: I think it'll cool off in another week or two. I've been there pretty often myself, when there are things in a game that make it JUST close enough to what you might like to tempt you/make you curious. There are definitely Kikki game type things in this one, just not enough obviously. If it had an art style you liked and a little less obtuse of a story and a liiittle more accessible combat, you might really like it! Very helpful, I know.

There was actually a little discussion in a stream I watched last night about the idea of a Monolith Soft and Fromsoft (Elden Ring devs) collab game. Nobody could really think of what it would look like, but there's crossover in the fanbase, I know that much.

A bleed build sounds really fun. It's not exactly fun to fight AGAINST, but I like the fighting style of the invading NPC in the Roundtable Hold. I'll probably have better luck with a second file. Still piddle with this one for a while, maybe take a break from the game and come back knowing what I want to build for and where to find the spells/weapons I want! Unfortunately from what I'm aware the better spells do show up a LOT later in the game. Not entirely sure what that looks like though, since it seems like the vast majority of the world has a way into it that doesn't involve beating a boss.

For now I'm trying to build strength for a bit, since I really enjoy horseback combat. It's so unique and fun, and a lot of the overworld fights seem like they're built for it.

Oh gosh, no, Mikodesu, no problem; I'm so monstrously fussy/particular in my gaming preferences that I'm pretty used to being nagged by FOMO from games that tick a lot of my boxes, but that I know full well I wouldn't actually like. I like that it reminds me in part of World of Warcraft (which I honestly love...love the combat and the world and the graphics and the quests and even the stories. Way too addictive, though!) and it's open world and that exploration could be a focus, but it also has some of my top no-nos. (No-noes?)

~

Ichiya's route surprisingly never made me want to deck Ichiya. Unfortunately, it did make me want to deck Hibari. Like...a lot. And some of my hunches have been proven wrong in favour of lightning-flash first-suspicions that I immediately dismissed, lol. Well, I like that it's so far not predictable in the ways I thought it would be. And I see why many think Ichiya should be the final route, but...it really doesn't matter. His route ties in a bit more notable things, maybe, but even so, it doesn't feel like it impacts the other routes, so if anyone else plays this, I say throw out any recommended order and just go with whatever you WANT to do.

Though I find I really cant bring myself to aim for 100% on otoges, any more. I know I should go back into Cupid Parasite, for example, and do the alternate endings, as many of the 'good' or even some of the 'bad' endings sound more appealing than the 'true love' best endings, but...meh! I liked it, but I can't get into this type of game enough, any more, to go for any more than one route per guy...it's the 'best' route only, now

~

Everything was quite calm with grandma today, and rather cutely, I hear that while I was home, grandma told mom she was leaving (as she does most nights) to go to Kikki's house! I guess I'm leaving some kind of positive impression on grandma, hee. That's pretty cute. Though I am in buckets of pain atm. I really have to sneak back to the chiro after driving dad to chemo tomorrow. My right foot has even gone numb. It's making me want chocolate...and I can't have any. (Boo!)

I finished Alliance of the Golden Witch and I'm now officially halfway through Umineko. Finally out of the territory of the anime I watched when I was a teen, I'm expecting to enjoy the next arc as I legitimately don't know what's going to happen now. The slog that was the first arc, while still had great moments, was honestly a little hard to get through with the anime playing in the background of my head the whole time. It is a nice feeling being 50% done with the one of longest VNs of all time. While this isn't my first time tackling an intensely long VN (*eyes Clannad and Fate/Stay Night*), I can't help but feel exhausted rn. Last year I tackled the Code:Realize trilogy and it left me extremely tired afterwards too. I used to play so many of this genre, but I think continuous blocks of text make my brain short circuit now. I'll probably binge Umineko's second half once I finish Triangle Strategy so I can finally be free of it (not that I'm not enjoying it, but uughhhghhgh longgamelong).

Speaking of, I wonder if it'd unlock at midnight tonight? I'm sorely tempted to try but it's always a 50/50 chance, especially with non 1st party Nintendo games. The game has been getting good reviews so I'm pretty jazzed to play it as soon as possible, but sleep is also nice too.

p.s. - Caught Shaymin in Brilliant Diamond yesterday. I managed to get them in a Heal Ball for maximum cuteness factor.

Hey guys!

I've been on vacation the last week, so I haven't really done anything regarding my backlog. I played more Legends of Arceus because of the Daybreak update and now all my pastures are full. I even got to full star, so that's exciting. I also got Shaymin in Shining Pearl.

I'm sixteen hours into lunar now. I think I'll probably finish it up pretty soon, as long as I keep playing it. I like the game a lot and it'll be nice to finish something on my psp. I've got a lot of stuff is like to play on it and I'm really enjoying the stuff in playing now.

I have rune factory 5 and trails preordered, and I'm looking at xenoblade 3 (waiting to see about any possible limited editions, before I pre-order anything, though I'll be getting it either way) soul hackers 2 (will only pre-order if there's a good limited edition in the us, since there's no switch version. I'll be buying it as soon after release as I can, once the price has gone down if I don't.) And the new Pokemon games though I have no idea which version I'll pick up on release yet. I'm also looking at digimon survive if that releases this year. Hoping to pick up triangle strategy really soon but as it stands I can only grab it if it goes down to thirty or forty dollars so it might be awhile.

Grow is getting a BIG update again. I think it may already be live on steam, and is supposed to be hitting consoles as well, 'soon'. If anyone was waiting for more improvements before trying it out, then this may be your time :) (I didn't have any notable trouble with the game after the update that fixed the final story cave, though.)

VB proceeding well; I still love shion, and though you could view it in different ways, I personally feel that of the 3 I've done so far, Hibari falls for him the fastest and easiest, though she is an unforgivable dumbass even so. (I'm sure she scores sky-high in book-smarts, but her emotional intelligence is rock-bottom. Kasuga has nothing to be proud of...he raised a complete fool. I find her hard to read, at times. Though the guys are a lot of fun.)

I got Kabuki and Tangy into Wodewyrd. Only 8 more to go, lol. I think I only have one more house to move, though! At least until I decide on specific terraforming for the western half of the island. I have small ideas I want to incorporate but I don't know if I'll have to move houses to use any of those.

I'm still going over my game options carefully. I kind of forgot to account for the large range of prices in games. I'm trying to buy less, but I never thought about if that should mean that I weigh an indie game that cost $15 differently than an AAA game that costs $80. The 'buy less' thing is partly about money, which is a good reason to count them differently, but it's also about not wasting resources (including time) on games I don't like...being more selective. A good reason to count any game the same regardless of price! Anyway, can't decide. Will think about it some more.

EDIT: There's actually enough left on my GC from mom and dad to get another game, if I get one of the indies :) Now I just have to decide which!

I THINK there's something I still don't understand about summoning NPCs in Elden Ring, because I've done some quests and none of them want to return the favor and fight with me. Managed to take Margit down finally though, so that's good. And got ONE bonfire/grace thing inside the castle. I like the balance of dungeon vs outdoor gameplay because too much of the dungeon stresses me out... Very glad this was my first Souls game.

I do look forward to finding more NPCs to summon, though. Taking somebody with me to go dungeon crawling sounds very fun. There's GOT to be a few who show up more often...

Genshin's Mario Maker event is up... I play in the morning before events drop so I haven't tried it but it's supposedly pretty fun. Waaay too tedious on a controller though. Sort of like decorating the tea pot. :/

I need a snack. Boss time + dungeon time in Elden Ring is mentally taxing.

Bought Murder by Numbers with the remaining GC balance, and, because it was on sale, also managed to squeeze SteamWorld Dig 2 in there. The first game had a HORRIBLE final boss, but I really like the gameplay, so if the ridiculously cheaty and mean final boss is all that detracts, that's okay. It reminds me of miner.vga...even though that looked way worse and played a bit differently, the steamWorld Dig games give me nostalgic feelings. I knew I'd eventually get it, though it's been sitting on the wishlist for years already. Though that one I probably can't play while with grandma...monsters require actual attention.

ACNH is confounding me with a weird river situation I have going on. Not sure how I want to join the eastern river mouth up with the rest, with all the obstacles in the way. But it's raining today in my game and I feel like I could watch the rain patter down on Isabelle's window aaaaaaall day.

Lol, I'm an idiot. Triangle Strategy comes out tomorrow, not today. I booted up my Switch ready to get lost in it and realized I'm a day early. Oh well. In the meantime, I finished the DLC story in Legends Arceus. I don't plan on doing any of the solitude challenges because it's really not my thing, but its cool for those who want it.

I then decided to devote a good chunk of my day to Elden Ring. I haven't been fighting anything too extreme, but rather I'm running around unlocking all the campfires, finding all the map fragments, collecting all the flask upgrades, and starting quests with NPCs. Currently taking a small break from all the galivanting. Whee.

Edit: OH!!! I forgot! I finally finished the first story arc in NieR Reincarnation! It took a lot of grinding and a lot of freebies, but I managed to take down the boss that was a big roadblock for me. I'm gonna miss Fio and Levania, but the two new protags seem pretty OK. Big fan of Papa so far lmao.

Depending on where you are and if you got the game digitally, you can play the game at 9PM PST; Nintendo does unlock their digital games at the same time.

Well, I got up to the Rufus fight in FF7 only to be killed by random mobs right before I got Tifa. I don't feel like going through three bosses again, so I'm at a loss. I also needed to take a mental health day from work; I only just got back from vacation and being back home isn't doing so well for me right now.

Thanks for the heads us, Ronin! Unfortunately I crashed before 8 pm. I tried to stay up by playing some Persona 5 Royal and even secured the infiltration route in the second palace, but I just got too sleepy. Gonna get on Triangle Strategy a soon as I finish soaking up all the info from the FFXIV live letter that aired this morning.
