I Can’t Decide Who I Want to Marry!

I took a tiny break from Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney to begin playing Story of Seasons. I’m about to finish the fifth day of my first week, so I still have a long ways to go before I can marry anyone. Whenever I play a Harvest Moon game, I like to decide as soon as I can who I’m going to marry, but I’m having a really hard time deciding. I haven’t played Story of Seasons until now (I skipped from A New Beginning to The Lost Valley and unfortunately haven’t been able to play any of the newer Harvest Moon games since then), but when it first came out I decided that I’d totally marry Mistel if I ever got the game. He’s so cute ^^ When I started playing this game yesterday, I was still set on marrying Mistel, but I don’t know anymore. They’re ALL so cute (I decided to buy this game because I absolutely love the character artwork ) Does anyone have any suggestions for me?

Since you can't get married until year 2 in that one, you'll have plenty of time to prepare and decide. You can see several events with the character before you have to commit to dating to see the rest. Personally, I picked Kamil, the sweet and bashful, cat-loving florist. I thought Fritz, Reager, and Nadi were good options too, but I wasn't into that entry enough for so many playthroughs. I would recommend trying to trigger the events with the characters you are interested in, and their dialogue changes for friendship level and see which one you like best. Good luck!

It's impossible to suggest something like that for another person, unless you know them *really* well, since it's all a matter of personal preference. I mean, even if your mom or your best friend sets you up with a guy she thinks is perfect for you, it's pretty hit-or-miss if you'll like them or not. This is kind of the same, but even more uncertain, lol.

We can only say who WE liked, though there's no saying whether YOU would also like the same thing. I can't give any feedback on Mistel, as he was my second-from-last choice, and I only liked my first three choices enough to do a playthrough for them. I went for Raeger first, but got thoroughly bored with him as soon as I married him. He's a classic handsome fella with fairly smooth romantic lines, and I lost interest fast. I also did a Nadi file, and I LOVED Nadi post-marriage. He's a shy/embarrassed tsundere. Not the rude or arrogant type...the type who says things other than what he means because he's too shy/embarrassed to be direct with his words. (Like how he paces around in the evening and will EVENTUALLY admit, if you leave it long enough, that he's waiting for YOU to go to bed first so he can hold you, lol. Or hold your hand, can't remember which, but he doesn't want to go to bed without you already in there, anyway.)

I had a blast with Nadi because he made me feel like teasing him, and his responses made me laugh. Though once in a rare while, he comes right out with how he feels, without beating around the bush, and totally surprised me.

I'm actually in the middle of a replay late last year or early this year (delayed for quite some time now due to factors). I stopped somewhere in Winter Year 1. I was waiting on Kamil, this time, since his response to Valentine's really caught my attention by seeming so out-of-character, and it made me curious. I like his looks, so since I enjoy the game, I thought I'd have one more go at it with a Kamil file. But he doesn't get here until Spring Year 1, I believe it was, so I haven't gotten anywhere with the romance part of the file, yet.

You’re right; at the end of the day, it’s personal preference that matters. It would have been better for me to ask people who they chose to marry and why.

Instead of deciding on one person from the get-go, I’m going to raise every bachelor's friendship levels to the highest level before I decide—like I’m already doing in Harvest Moon DS. I know I have plenty of time to decide, and in the meanwhile I can enjoy farming and befriending everyone in town. Thank you commenting on my topic, Sara and Kikki!

That's okay; people do it all the time, actually. We have a rule against it since it comes up a fair bit, but we also know that people are, behind the question, looking for more information upon which to base their own choice, not really to be told 'you should choose ______" At least, usually. I suppose once in a while a person may come along and actually want others to make their choices for them, which is a bit ridiculous and rather hard to deal with.

I assume you're playing as the FeMC? If so, then: Nadi doesn't arrive until Winter 1 (or that is the earliest date you can trigger his arrival event, anyway...he won't show up in town until you go to the specified spot at the right time of day.) and Kamil doesn't arrive until Spring of Year 2, with the condition that you have at least 3 vendors opened up at the Depot. That's why Kamil didn't rank higher for me than third...I didn't want to wait an entire year just to meet him. I won't be able to give my final preference order until I complete this replay...I can't tell if I'll like him more or less than Raeger, but I'm pretty sure he won't beat Nadi. (I also have a preference for darker skin with white hair in characters, on top of my almost absurdly strong long-haired men preference. I don't know if Sanjay caused it, or if I always had it and simply didn't realize it until I played ANB.)

Dunno if you'll find it worthwhile to wait for Nadi and Kamil before making a choice, or not. I would find it pretty hard to wait on a first play-through since I'd be really into the game itself, then. But if you only intend to do one play, it's probably for the best! SoS takes a long time to complete if you're aiming to get the Depot *completely* developed, so at least you don't run out of things to do before you can get married. Or that was my experience, anyway.

If you do plan to wait to see all of them, Kamil at least has some very easy loved-level gifts to shoot his FP up quicker. Any version of herb tea, for example.

One more thing to try! Aside from events and friendship level dialogue there's a bunch of unique dialogue attached to different outfits in the game. That was what helped me decide in SoS, honestly! No matter which one of them is the tipping point I think you'll get there.

Me personally - I loooooved Klaus. He kinda complains about his age a lot (he doesn’t look that old though???), but he’s very romantic.

For the girls, I like Elise. You might despise her at first, but if you go through her heart events, she changes for the better.
