ore stone smashing

I've got a full stack of ore stone, but every time I try to break them all (dropping the stick then hammering it) it always results in scrap metal. I've done this maybe 50 times, same result. Does anyone know if this is unavoidable, like a safeguard the devs put in to prevent abuse or is my luck just really bad? Thanks in advance.

Possibly. Have you tried smashing them individually? Scrap metal has the highest percentage to appear when smashing an Ore Stone.
