greensara wrote: Nov 15, 2022 5:44 am Woo! My copy shows it's being shipped, so hopefully it will get here by release day! So excited! I have been spoiled a little bit, while trying to avoid story spoilers, I do like seeing the new Pokemon and mechanics. I hope it's at least as fun as Arceus was, though my husband isn't a big fan of the open world concept. It seems like multiplayer may be more important this time
Spoiler:
like the rumor about it being needed for some new evolutions
but unfortunately we only have one Switch. Guess I will have to play online with people for that, not unlike Animal Crossing. I suppose there are enough of us here I would be happy to invite some of you all to join up with me after I get a handle on it myself, lol.
I'll be honest and hope that those rumors are not true. It would really suck for people who prefer to play alone/single player and not deal with the online elements, be forced to do it in order to gain certain evolutions or miss a core gameplay mechanic. I get it though, people like multiplayer, but honestly it should not be something that alienates those who don't do multiplayer that much.

Oh good lord, one of my old faves has a new evolution and I am wheezing because it's quite literally nothing. I'm laughing and crying but I'm not sure if I'm lamenting or jubilant.

I cannot keep this straight, even after all these years. Nintendo releases on Fridays, but...is that midnight tonight, or tomorrow night? I was thinking it's tonight but I'm not at all confident. Anyway, you Pokemon fans should be about to have some fun! :)

Checked the tracking again and it looks like my copy is finally moving out of Florida and supposed to get here Monday. Guess they didn't want to risk early copies, lol. So I won't be playing for a few days, but better late than never.

It looks like overland shines, like in Arceus are going to be a thing again, that will be sooo nice. Also I guess if you use the auto battle feature your Pokemon won't auto battle shinies from the sound of it, which is good since I won't be able to tell what's shiny or not for the new stuff, at first anyway.

Daughter just picked up hers. She got the duel game pack. She just sent me a screenshot and a very ticked off post because there is nothing inside the box other than the carts. No manual, no map, no nothing.

Note she got it at GameStop which did give her 200 in-game pokeballs and lapel pins of the new legendaries.

I’m moving my post over to this thread because I misunderstood, sorry

Hiiiiiiii :D I bought my copy of Pokémon Violet from the e-shop yesterday afternoon, and I got to play it for a few minutes after I got home from work. I’m not very far in the game, but Pokémon Violet is a blaaaaaaaaaaast! My brother also has Violet, so I’m hoping that he’ll co-op with me very soon.
Spoiler:
I love what they’ve done with the player’s madre!
I chose Sprigatito as my starter, and I named her Spriggy. I also have a Lechonk named Lenny xD

I want to bring up the question of - Could pokemon from Shield or Shining Pearl be transferred to Scarlet or Violet?

Lady Retro wrote: Nov 19, 2022 6:18 pm I have questions that I will post here.

1. Is it possible to transfer a pokemon from Pokemon Shining Diamond, or Pokemon Shield to Pokemon Violet if you have downloaded both games on a switch lite?
2. Does Violet and Scarlet let players be the game's villian or Bad Guy if they choose?
3. Do the players get the option of becoming a gym leader?
Through Pokemon Home you can transfer your mons from Sw/Sh into S/V, but not until next year. There's also a list of Pokemon that will only be avaialbe via transferring: https://www.serebii.net/scarletviolet/t ... only.shtml

Therefore;

1. No, all Pokemon transfers are done through Pokemon Home which is a subscription service, and S/V are yet to be included as they're set for compatibility release in Spring 2023

2/3. You play as a student who tackles three different routes at once: Gym Battles, rounding up delinquents (Team Star), and searching for giant Pokemon. I am aware there's more story after completing all of them but I've yet to get there as it's only day 3 of release.

----------

I've been busy both playing and working so I've yet to come back to this thread until now. Internet is currently losing their minds per usual, but I can say with confidence that the gameplay is fun and solid. It feels like the smooshed Sw/Sh and Legend Arceus together. The game is choppy in areas and it could very much be improved with a patch update down the line (though it's not unusual for Pokemon launches to have some kinks to iron out). I'm not going to shill it and say it's the best game ever, but bottom line I'm having fun with it. I like zooming around the map and finding new Pokemon I've never seen before plus having the freedom to challenge who I want when I want. A lot of the new mons are great too, there's a lot of variety and I've warmed up to a lot of them quicker than the last few gens. So far I've done 4/8 badges, 3/5 giants, and 3/5 Team Star camps and I'm stopping to take a breather to do the classes at school because they're gonna lead into unlocking something so ima keep at it. If anyone else has any other questions, drop em here and I'll answer what I can.

I couldn't start until Saturday evening, and I've played about 10 hours. Both my partner and I are finding it hard to play "together," because we have to stop when one of us has to do something else. XD We both love it so far. GOOD LORD are there a lot of different types of wild pokemon, I am in pokedex heaven. This feels great after the limited roster in BDSP. Love the new guys too, though there are a lot of dogs. Not a bad thing! They are adorable (Fidough is my favorite so far  ). But it's a little odd.

Predictably, I did run into the Me Problem of hating the open-world design. I'm glad my partner is playing with me, because I am finding it really, really hard to navigate the overworld - not a lot of features to remember my place with. It's bugging me most, even playing with my partner, that I'm missing the trainer battles. I'm making up for it with tera raids, which are pretty cool. Also, technical stuff, blah blah blah, it's noticeable but I don't mind so much. I'm really sad that it seems to be the only thing most folks want to talk about, so I've been staying away from most discussions.

We haven't even played the first gym yet, though I'm hoping we can do that tonight. We're having too much fun battling the wild pokemon right now and letting each other know where the rare ones spawn. My partner was also weirdly into the player customization and shops in the main town area.

I've just made it to the city with the school in it. I got my copy on Saturday. (day after release)

I got my first shiny in the game, too.
Spoiler:
It's a red Tarountala.
I want to post a picture of it, but I don't know how to on the forums....

There’s a capture button on the switch. Use the square button on the left joycon. Once you have the pic, go to your album. Once there, you either can upload to twitter/facebook or you can send screenshot to your phone.

To post a photo on here, it’s a code

Code: Select all

[tweet]tweet number ID goes here[/tweet]

I can’t wait for my copy.

My daughter is playing V. She wanted me to play S so I went ahead and gave her $60 for it (she had bought the dual pack). So far I'm just collecting and have finished just one of the titan quests. Next I'll do a Starfall and a gym. Trying to do the three questlines evenly.

I like it so far but my daughter and I can't join in battles it seems. I did a crystal battle and said to do a group. It gave me code and she sat next to me and tried to get in. She used the code but it kept telling her nothing was available. My game just sat there waiting for others to join. After trying several times we finally gave up. She does have the N sub, but I do not, but we were playing local so I wouldn't think that would be the problem. Not sure what the problem is.

I DO like the fact that (it appears) we'll have one pokemon with all the HM moves built in. I hated always having to dedicate half my team to HM users. Now I can just make a team of the pokemon I want without thinking of HM's. Note it might have been like this in the last games, but the last I played was Shield.

Well, this will probably be the third entry in the 20+ year old franchise where I willingly complete the Pokedex. I never really had too much motivation to fully fill them as usually the rewards were an in-game certificate or the Shiny Charm, and I just didn't care enough. I did it in Sw&Sh because I wanted an excuse to keep playing (because I really liked it that much) and I was burning time until the DLC came out. I did it in Legends because it's literally part of the core gameplay and it was legitimately fun to do. With S&V, it feels extremely satisfying seeing that book flip and fill in the blank, insomuch I WANT to see it filled, and I will, mark my words. I also really like 90% of the new 'mons I've encountered. Maushold is a new big favorite, Flamigo is literally just a Flamingo and I can't help but love it. and Bellibolt has grown on me since I added one to the team. All of those are in my party plus my starter (weed kitty) and a Flareon. The Last spot is currently being held by a Ditto until I get to a leaked Pokemon I saw that I absolutely must have on my team.

I'm still taking my time with the game as I do really just like wandering and doing whatever I want. I have one Gym left, one giant Pokemon, and two more Team Star leaders. For now, just gonna make it rain Pokeballs everywhere.

I haven’t gotten very far into the game at all. I made it to the school but haven’t left yet. I’m loving the game, though I was disappointed to find out that we’re confined to a school uniform xD
