Went back into doing quests in Genshin last night, and thought I had finished the aranara quest, but apparently I hadn't. (Holy « Cow Poopoo » has there ever been a longer quest line in a video game?!) Last nights portion alone went on for close to 2 hours. That thing WAY out stays its welcome, as cute as the aranara are. I completely forgot who Rana was, and that she had any connection to the little buggers. Most of what they did was make me curious to poke around for whatever mythology they're based on. Because a lot of the names sounded familiar, I just don't have a lot of knowledge of Sumerian religions/mythos.

I WILL say I'm looking forward to the continuation of the desert quest next patch. That one was much better paced. Probably developed the same level of connection to the characters in half the time.

I have this issue with areas in Genshin of getting them to about 80% explored no problem, that last 20% is hell, though. Would rather spend my time in the game doing that than artifact farming or endless abyss runs.

Harvestella isn't completely through, yet. I did unlock 'life partner' status, but I haven't done anything with it yet because I haven't gone through all the questlines and I don't know if it'll lock anything up. I am fairly sure of who to pick, though. :shifty:

Yeahhhhhhhh. What's even more fun is that they have another long « Mr.Gourmet's hat » quest that involves finding all the Aranara scattered around the map. I'm still actively working on this one, but only in the sense that when I find one of the little buggers, I send them on their way. I still haven't done the Golden Slumber quest series yet, but I should get on that before the next giant chunk of the desert drops.

Is there a point to the aranara collection beyond just the rewards? I started the aranara stuff so long ago I convinced myself that finding them was tied to triggering the end of the main aranara story (whoops).

You've still got time for Golden Slumber, afaik you only have one long chain quest to do before the update drops, and iirc it's no more than a third as long as the aranara one. Doable, at least.

Finding them all eventually leads to a bunch of chests which may or may not count towards total exploration %. AFAIK, as long as you find the unique Aranara with their questlines and do them, you'll unlock the rest of the story and the last area in the forest. I just finished it all myself recently but it was over a long period of time so my memory is a little spotty.

I'll probably work on Golden Slumber today as I'm trying to get the treasure compass asap and every bit of extra rep counts. I wanna 100% Sumeru but it's hard for me without that compass pointing out all the hidden chests. Still haven't finished with pastel shark land yet, but I'm getting there.

The people of the three towns in Trio of Towns are a huge load of really nice people. I can see why some prefer older games where the characters were more quirky (some of them were lazy or genuinely mean or alcoholics or...etc) but though quirks do make characters interesting and memorable, this crew of sweeties is cozy to play with.

I was a bit taken aback that Wayne was handing out 'fortune cookies' that were filled with apple jam. Fortune cookies are filled with little scraps of paper and nothing else! Marco, honestly...what are you doing, filling fortune cookies with jam? Do you stuff the fortune into the gooey jam??

But then I realized afresh that natural flirt Wayne is genuinely a doll. He doesn't just compliment the twins on their alluring dance (which was no doubt well-meant, but in reality was inappropriate, which Ludus called out very mildly) he also gives Ludus cookies, specifically of a type he'd like, with a filling that isn't very sweet. He's a really nice guy, and not just to women. I did go through with marrying him in one file, just to try it out, but Wayne does remain my least favourite bachelor. I hate the cowboy style, and the constant winking is off-putting. But he's sweet anyway, and I'll buy the 'natural charmer' image the game wants me to have from him.

I'm anticipating a very difficult Monday through Thursday, so all I want to do is play this comforting, cozy, nicey-nice game. I don't know where I'm going with it...maybe nowhere. Am taking my time more than in previous plays, not attempting to get two cows until I can get the Jersey unlocked (so that I don't have to sell it) and trying NOT to reach C-lock on Westown until Fall, so that I don't have to filch sweet potatoes out of one of my older files.

Also seriously wondering if I should consider getting my achilles area injected with botox to reduce their non-stop tension that has half destroyed that entire kinetic chain. :? Well, I can at least ask the neuro's office about it next time. The gabapentin helps with the shooting, stabbing, burning nerve pain, but it doesn't stop any of the clenching, which perpetuates a lot of the problems.

I married Wayne on one of my play throughs and he was really sweet. Yeah, the wink is a bit much, but I ended up liking him despite it.

I hope things get better for you, Kikki. They've been playing around with my levothyroxin dose and I am struggling with fatigue, pain, coldness, thinning hair etc. I don't have a thryoid but my previous dose was getting too high so I was having AFib. They reduced it about 4 months ago, but now I feel it's too low. I'll get blood work done and I see the Dr Jan 24. It was supposed to be in May but I can't feel like this for 5 more months.

Edit: In fact I' m re-buying ToT. Thought I couldn't with Eshop down but went to Nintendo.com and there it was! With my old bugaboo PTSD a lot of it will be new to me again.

I was feeling very encouraged by the Skyward Sword victory, so I decided to try working on another game I stopped close to the end on, Dragon Quest 9. Turns out all the grinding in multiple professions paid off as I didn't have any problems getting through the last area with my team. The minstrel, priest, and mage were in the forties, and my gladiator was in the high thirties. I thought I would have trouble with the final boss battle too, as I saw many complaints about it online, but I actually got through on my first try, which really surprised me. So I rolled the credits and unlocked the post-game. Overall it was pretty fun, though a little grindy at times, though that was more my choice for wanting better stats, lol. Didn't get the completion celebration for this one like Skyward Sword, lol, but that makes 3 for 2023 now! Yay! Now I will probably have a big stretch of no completions knowing me, lol.

Thanks, K8sMum. I'd say I AM doing better, compared to August 4th.
Spoiler:
The improvements have been mild, but the gabapentin almost completely blocks the burning and stabbing pains, and though it doesn't help at all with clenching or tremors, I now at least know ever since that first intense attack of unrelenting pain, 12+ years ago, I've been having nerve malfunction, and not just in my leg(s) but also in my neck and even a little bit in my forearms. I've been trying so hard to keep exercising and stay fit and continually failing, but I finally know that I couldn't have done any better. (Not without knowing all of this first, at least!) All doctors repeatedly say to exercise, and I LOVE exercise, so of course I wanted to! Cycling was probably the major joy of my life for about 10 years. But pain shut it down. I didn't have pain because I wasn't exercising enough. I had pain because my nerves were malfunctioning and my brain was ordering my muscles to clench up all the time and making something as mild and simple as going for a half hour walk a painful task.

But I get it, now. All this time I've been blaming myself for not trying hard enough, or at least not trying the right thing, or the right way, but I know that the only way I can hope to exercise regularly again is to find a way to not involve certain parts of my body at all, or find a way to keep the muscles from clenching, via meds or something else. It's not a matter of effort. Not physical effort, anyway! I've always been a bit of a musclehead though, and it was too hard for me to accept that without knowing specifically why I couldn't just try harder and have it work out, somehow, lol.

I also know now that I have to get my prostaglandins looked into, as the clenching is VASTLY worse during the half of the month that centres around the first day of my period. Something else is outta whack, since even the gabapentin AND continual relaxants can't keep things under control then. There's multiple screw-ups going on in this complete whackjob of a body. Just knowing for sure that I wasn't the one screwing up by not trying hard enough, or whatever...that's a pretty big bit of progress, imo. Now maybe I can find something to try that has a chance of working.

That sounds great! Not that PTSD, of course, but getting to play Trio for the first time again (at least in parts.) Trio is the best Bokumono to replay and replay, ime. ANB was my favourite first-time playthrough ever...my very favourite specific playthrough. But for replay-value, Trio is the best. I think I could probably replay it every winter and not get bored of it. :)

The 3DS eshop should continue to allow purchases up until March 27th, as far as I know. After that, no more digital 3DS purchases ever again, because it's being shut down. (On 3DS and Wii U.)

I've been playing a lot of Dreamlight Valley. I've got seventy-five hours in. It's a very relaxing game honestly and has helped me through these past two weeks a bit as I've dealt with some real bad chronic pain. I wouldn't say I'm a hardcore fan and honestly, I do prefer Story of Seasons and Animal Crossing, but Dreamlight Valley is a fun game. I'm really hoping they won't mess it up once it's a free to play game. If they do, I'm not sure i can keep playing it. Still, it's been fun. Oddly enough, I haven't made a lot of progress in my seventy-five hour play time and this is likely because I'm enjoying the gardening, mining, and fishing so much. Maybe soon I can progress further with the quests.

Outside of that, I sadly haven't played much of anything. I've had a lot of chronic pain in my lower back for two weeks now. It seems (and hopefully is) getting better for now. However, this pain has made me have to stay in bed and sometimes it can be hard to play. Also, with me being so tired right now, I haven't had the energy to do a new game.

I honestly have no idea of what I'll play next. Having beat Pokemon Scarlet, I'm unsure of what to do next. It's been really hard to play things, especially starting something new. I've been switching between games and nothing has been clicking with me. Right now, I'm thinking of replaying games or going back to my DS/3DS. I guess I'll only play test some games and see what clicks.

Anyway, I'll make a small list for myself of things i want to finish. Only time will tell if I will. Hope I can.

Games I'd like to play and finish
Spoiler:
Final Fantasy 9 and 10
Chrono Cross
Digimon Cyberslueth
Yakuza Like a Dragon
Story pf Seasons Mineral Town
Xenoblade 1
Trails in the Sky FC and SC
Games I'd like to replay and finish
Spoiler:
Harvest Moon A New Beginning
Harvest Moon DS Cute
Harvest Moon Sunshine Island(maybe)
Story of Seasons Trio of Towns and Story of Seasons
Pokemon Leaf Green/Fire Red
Pokemon Black and White 1 and 2
Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald
I really want to replay a lot of the older Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons games. I was going to do Pioneer Town, but decided on beating the older ones first because I've never beaten them. Same with the Pokemon games. I really love the older ones, so I'm likely going to replay some of them. Not sure if I can finish the replays though, but I'll try over the next few months. It'll be fun playing on my DS/3DS again.

As for the top list, those are the games I really want to finish. I have others, like Rune Factory 4 and 5, and Pioneer Town, but I really want to finish some of the older games. As for the RPG's, it would be nice to finish the ones on the list this year. Maybe I can get in some more outside of the list, but these are the ones I really want to do and take priority when it comes to gaming.

Again though, I'm not sure if I can do it, but I hope I can. It's a decent list honestly and good RPG choices.

Finished Harvestella! Yeah, first game I've finished in probably over a year  It was super enjoyable though. I think I spent a good 60 to 80 hours playing it, but since the Switch can't tell you that, who really knows. I just know it was well worth my time. Still have post game to do - I didn't even make it through an entire game year before finishing the story, but I'm not too fussed about it.

I was given quite a few games for Christmas, although some are replays, like the Amnesia releases for Switch, but I also have Bayonetta 3, Trails From Zero, Paradigm Paradox, Cupid's Paradise and Piofiore Episode 1926 sitting in the pile, unopened.

Looking forward to Zelda, Persona 3/4 on Switch, FFXVI, FF Pixel Remasters on Switch and Theatrhythm FF. I'm sure there are others.

I've been studying for my nurse practitioner national certification exam right now, which at the moment is scheduled for 2/13, but I might take it sooner if I feel ready. Since it costs about $350 USD to take with no free retake options, I want to pass on my first try for sure. It's my last academic hurdle to overcome, then all that's left is getting a job I want!

I had to puppy sit today so I ended up having a reason to turn on my Switch. I almost forgot about the Splatfest but I went in and chose my team + got a level in so I can get some snails later. Puppy ended up napping most of the time so I booted Finding Paradise and I just finished it moments ago. While I don't actually remember how I emotionally reacted to To The Moon when I played it a few years back, I was pretty neutral on this one, until the literal final moment. I ended up sobbing through the credits. My eyes are still misty now. Literally went to 'oh, that's how it's gonna go, I see' to '....« Snuggly Bunny »'. I'm tempted to jump right into the 3rd game Imposter Factory, but I think I need to take a breather, honestly. Didn't think my first finished game this year would be such a gut punch.

Got to November in P5R, on the second entry in the Casino palace. I am definitely near the end of my interest/patience for this game (ESPECIALLY after getting hit with so many cutscenes after that awful boss fight), but I think I am near the actual end. I kinda suspect there'll be one more dungeon after the casino area and a final boss, though I know calendar-wise I've got a bit to go. I'm still amused by the confidants and itinerary-type days, but ugh, this is long. I'm guessing I've got at least 20 more hours to go, but the thing that worries me is that I'm only level 50.

---

I am obsessed with Even If Tempest. I will probably finish this week, or at least get to some sort of story end. I'm playing through the... 4th love interest route, though I am baffled by the perspective shift and all the absolutely raw things the game forced you to do in the Zenn route.

I... may put Diablo III into the cartridge slot of my Switch Lite tonight, and see if I want to play that or finish Even if Tempest more. Darkening of Tristram is open, so it may be that I play through that with a seasonal character and finish. Maybe I'll feel like playing more! Maybe I'll feel like playing that more than P5R, and never finish that game! I really don't need to play D3 again, but... Darkening of Tristram, plus a holiday event... ;_;

Hello! I'm a longtime lurker, deciding to join in now. I started working on my backlog many years ago (2015 I think?), when it was 400+ games long. It's much shorter now, but I still have a little ways to go! (I fell into the trap of Steam sales. I only have a PC and as of this past summer a Steam Deck, so all of my backlog comes from the PC.)

Do you have any gaming goals this year?
I'd really like to get my backlog down to 20 games this year. I'm trying to beat (or try and retire) two games a month, but that'll probably vary depending on how much time I have. (I'm working on a new degree and more of my free time at the moment is going to reading than to gaming.) I also used to stream a decent amount, but haven't held up a regular schedule in ages. I'd like to get back to that, because a good handful of the games I have left are ones I'd like to stream, and I've been kind of saving them for that.

What's in your backlog right now?
I have a total of 36 games in my backlog at the moment. 15 of them are hidden object games, which don't feel like official backlog games to me, although I will be counting them in my finished games total. (I enjoy playing them to relax, but they're mostly interchangeable, so each one doesn't feel like a new experience the way other types of games do. There's less reason for me to want to play through each specific one, if that makes sense.)

The 21 games in my "regular" backlog:
Spoiler:
CozyTyper
Dishonored: Death of the Outsider
Dragon Age II
Dragon Age Inquitision
Draugen
Eastshade
Katamari
Kena
Life is Strange 2
Magical Diary Wolf Hall
Mass Effect Andromeda
Matcha
Mutazione
Outer Wilds
Penko Park
Potion Craft
Re:Legend
Rune Factory 5
A Story Beside
Tangle Tower
Tell Me Why
My favorite types of games are farming games, but I tend to play them right away, which is why there are very few on the backlog.

Which new releases are you looking forward to this year?
There are so many, but so many come out in early access, that I don't actually know what all will be getting a full release this year. (I prefer not to play early access games. I'd rather wait for the full experience.) Coral Island, Slime Rancher 2, Little Witch in the Woods, and My Time at Sandrock will be at the top of my list once they get full releases, but I'm not assuming any of them will be this year. (Maybe Sandrock?)

Do you have a wishlist of existing games?
My Steam wishlist is currently 55 games long. Less than 20 of them are out though. (It's an easy way for me to keep track of upcoming games I'm interested in.) A lot of the games that are out are early access, so I'm waiting on them. I do really want to pick up FFVIIR, Crisis Core, Harvestella, Witchy Life Story, and Submerged Hidden Depths, but I don't really have the time for them right now, so I decided to wait until I do (and see if they get better sales in the meantime).

I did buy Aka at the beginning of the month (before the big sales ended) and finished it today, so that's one game down (or at least I'm back to neutral). It was a very pretty little game where you play a red panda trying to rebuild a peaceful life after a war. There is some farming, questing, and exploring. Reviews are not that great, but I had a really nice time with it. Controls (when watering your crops for example) are a bit fiddly, but it wasn't awful. (It just came out recently and the devs have been fixing early bugs, too, which is nice.)

Welcome to the Backlog thread, BerryBea. It's always nice to have fresh names popping up. The more regulars in this thread, the more info we tend to have to share and the more games we're exposed to. Sometimes that might increase our backlogs rather than shrinking them, lol, but it's fun.

~

Am currently being veeeeeeeeery careful, as I can't take any painkillers (Advil, etc) nor any relaxants for the next three days (unless the news I get tomorrow changes that. Not sure which to hope for, lol.) Numbness and clenching is spreading gradually; managing okay so far but probably due entirely to luck.

Trio is a fantastic anxiety-killer for me, as I'm so comfortable with it, but still find it interesting. Plus I already said I was limiting myself to the price of one AAA game per month as my gaming budget in 2023, so replays are my allies right now anyway. My progress is definitely slower this time as I'm trying to keep Westown from hitting C-lock before I reach fall, and Westown climbs like a bugger because the devs gave it the best shopping in terms of both groceries and building materials. Lulukoko climbs the slowest because they gave it practically nothing worth buying, outside of Ludus' building services, which you never get in bulk. I'm trying to buy everything I can elsewhere. Anywhere but Westown.

I also haven't employed ANY of the bulk-cooking methods for making money. I do want to raise my cooking level though, so when Westown hits C-lock I'll do as much as I can then to keep from speeding through their ranks too quickly. Anyway, the progress feels different, this time, which makes it interesting.

EDIT: Man, where has my brain been? We spoke of a potential Tears of the Kingdom Direct recently, and it only occurred to me just now: they'll probably reveal the existence of DLC (like a Season Pass) through something like that. I always forget DLC even exists, but BotW had it, so TotK likely will, too. But we don't even know enough about TotK to be getting info about DLC yet, do we? They haven't even officially revealed any gameplay yet, just brief shots that might be partly cutscenes. I can't remember how it worked with BotW. I don't remember news of the DLC being mixed in with pre-release news. A lot of BotW was shown at E3 2016 in terms of gameplay; feels like we'll know less about TotK when it releases than we did about BotW when it released.

The arugula on my windowsill is ready to start plucking leaves from! They are surprisingly peppery...even more so than grocery store stuff. I thought baby arugula would be milder but it's actually stronger. At least this stuff is! Must have an arugula wrap for lunch. In a few days I can have a baby greens salad from the merlot lettuce, too. :)

I mentioned Wayne giving Ludus a fortune cookie, which Ludus said was filled with apple jam, which I said was clearly not a fortune cookie. Never noticed this before, but the next day Stephanie was talking about Marco's fortune cookies and said something similar about how Marco didn't understand fortune cookies, but it didn't matter because he's so great he can't possibly make anything that tastes bad. It clearly connects to Ludus' dialogue, anyway, and I never noticed this one before. I've noticed the disappearing white things story and at least one other towns-wide dialogue train, but never noticed this fortune cookie one. Makes me wish I knew exactly where to go to find all other bits that might connect to it. I want some sort of aura/glow to envelop any character who is part of a current dialogue train.

Did a little chair bounce this morning on seeing that my animals both went up to 2 byproducts. Only unlocked chewy treats 4 days ago, and haven't unlocked the feed mill yet, and I'm doing PTJs like crazy so the shipping ones are going through lots of eggs and milk. I need the byproduct number to soar.

I can't remember how festivals work. I mean, if I win the animal festival with my cow 4 times on beginner, does that take their brand up each time? I assume you have to go up a level to increase the brand, but I can't remember for sure.

Quite sure I won't buy P4G this month...I'll leave it on my wishlist for a good sale. I'm going to have to keep a running total of game expenses this year if I'm to be able to keep track of no more than the price of one AAA game per month. It looks right now like January expenses will be $0, unless a big sale comes up on wishlist items on Switch, but I don't anticipate that since we just had holiday sales.

Haven't gone back to Kynseed yet to figure out my tin bucket (should that even need figuring out?) but I did get a USB-C extension cord so that I can comfortably play the Steamdeck connected to my TV even from my usual gaming spot, which happens to be about 10 feet from the TV. Why are all USB-C cords so crazy SHORT?
