Okay, here we go again!

Years 1-7 of this thread were created by Fogu member (and former mod) RopeMaidenKirie. She still stops by once in a while, but has moved onto other areas of life for the last few years. Lots of folks love filling this out, so I took up this thread in 2021...but I just copied and pasted her thread of past years and updated it where needed with new content. (I also added one question to the mix, which I put in red text to show that it wasn't Kirie's original text.) I've included the same poll she used, too...so this thread was really written almost entirely by Kirie. :) I may reformat slightly next year if Kirie has not returned to reclaim her thread, but for now I'm keeping it as it was! Including the poll.

I'll do what I did this time last year and put this in by quoting Kirie:
RopeMaidenKirie wrote:Answer my questions if you want, make up your own or just say whatever you'd like :D These questions aren't limited to ONLY games that came out in 2022, just what you played.. if you didn't finish them or are currently still playing that's fine too. Glad I caught this before work. Here we go again!

How many games did you finish this year? (doesn't have to be an exact amount, estimate!)

Twenty-one over all. Some of them technically either came in more than one part or had a conclusion I finished before getting more content. Regardless, 21 is the number I'm sticking with.

Favorite game/s that you played in 2022 (doesn't have to have necessarily came out this year)

This is kinda hard because nothing overly wowed me this year and kept my attention outside the initial run through. That being said, I did everything you could do in Legends Arceus and Umineko is arguably one of the best visual novels I've ever played - to the point that I'm still listening to it's OST daily months later.

Least favorite or game/s that let you down that you played in 2022:

Danganronpa V3s Switch port is absolute garbage and I'm still mad about it. I don't understand how they released it when it can't even run properly in it's most important parts.

Game/s that surprised you the most:

Probably Kirby and the Forgotten Land I don't know why I even bought this game because while I like Kirby as a character, I've never been a fan of the games all that much. I dropped it initially, but then came back a few months later and really enjoyed my time with it.

What consoles did you purchase in 2022 (if any)?

Pretty sure we got our PS5 this year? I think? Everything blends together after awhile aaaaa.

What games (if any) are you looking forward to in 2023?

Fire Emblem Engage
Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life
Final Fantasy XVI
Hollow Knight: Silksong
Octopath Traveler II
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
Theatrhythm: Final Bar Line

Games that you wanted but weren't able to purchase?

Honestly, a lot, but none of them were day one purchases so they're on the wishlist until sales. Live A Live is probably my one big regret.

Games that you wanted to play (that you own or borrowed) but just weren't able to get around to playing

I wanted to play Phantasy Star Online 2 more, but there's just no time for it currently. I also never got around to Monster Hunter Rise's Sunbreak expansion.

Favorite gaming song/s and/or OST?

Legendary Quartet - Pokemon Scarlet/Violet
Final Battle Theme - Pokemon Scarlet/Violet (SUPER SPOILERS AHEAD)
The Divine Damsel of Devastation - Genshin Impact
Scaramouche Boss Theme - Genshin Impact
Hustle and Bustle of Ormos - Genshin Impact
Calamari Inkantation 3MIX - Splatoon 3
Anarchy Rainbow - Splatoon 3

Which genre did you play the most of?

Visual Novels, dear lord. A total of eight and one of them took over 100 hours to finish. I am fatigued towards them to say the least.

Did you replay any older games this year? If so which ones?

I replayed Fire Emblem Three House's Crimson Flower Route. I really don't remember why, I just did. I also played Pokemon Ultra Moon which was basically a replay.

Favorite characters of the year?

Ingo - Legends Arceus
Larry - Pokemon Scarlet/Violet
Tighnari/Wanderer/Nilou - Genshin Impact
The cat from Stray (lol)

Favorite gaming announcements/news of the year?

Fire Emblem Engage's leak being REAL and watching the fandom lose their mind.

Disappointing gaming announcements/news of the year?

DokeV is officially in development hell. I literally wanted a PS5 for this game so this really sucks.

Anything other thoughts?

I came back to Genshin this year after quitting it last year. It was mostly due to China and it's dumb censorship bull, but the game remains fine over here so whatever. I also realized that Inazuma was by far the lowest point in the story and really appreciate Sumeru's release the more I think on it. It's nice to be back and I'm happy that I can enjoy this game again.

Personal or general gaming predictions for 2023?

Baizhu is releasing in 2023, I know he is. Just give him to me, Hoyo, I am ready. This two years of teasing has gone on long enough! Also, the next FFXIV expansion will be announced in 2023 at the very least, I hope.

How many games did you finish this year? (doesn't have to be an exact amount, estimate!)

As always, I write down every game I buy and complete, so I DO have an exact amount. I finished 26 games in 2022.

Favorite game/s that you played in 2022 (doesn't have to have necessarily came out this year)

I liked a bunch of games I played, but the only game I LOVED this year was probably XC3, and to an extent, FFXIV (because I love MMO-style format in gameplay, even though I've only played half the free trial at this point.) Not sure that I'll go on to actually buy FFXIV due to the multiplayer situation, though, so...only Xenoblade Chronicles 3 can be added to my list of 'favourite' games, I think.

Least favorite or game/s that let you down that you played in 2022:

To an extent, Rune Factory 5. I LIKED it, but it wasn't lovable, because it was just a clone of RF4. It was RF4, reskinned, imo, which left it without any sense of freshness. There were no new ideas to be impressed by, imo. It's NOT the worst game I played...it wasn't a bad game. But Rune Factory has things to live up to, for me, and it didn't. It was an acceptable comeback game when all thought the series was lost, but if you played RF4, then to me, RF5 was a very stale game. It did show that they're the real devs of Rune Factory, though, and that they understand the formula completely. So I have reason to be hopeful either for RF6, or this 'sequel that is NOT Rune Factory 6'. So I'm not upset about it. It was probably inevitable that RF5 turn out this way. It was still fun, just not fresh. It was like...leftovers, I guess.

Game/s that surprised you the most:

Jenny LeClue - Detectivu. I wouldn't have bought this game, but I got it for FREE. So I played it. And I really liked it and wanted a sequel! That hardly ever happens to me. I'm just not into point-and-click adventures any more. They're what I grew up on, but they feel like a part of my past that I can no longer go back to, anymore than I can go back to playing with Barbies. (I never actually played with barbies but I need a metaphor, here!) But Jenny LeClue, an INDIE, was fully voice-acted, and voice-acted WELL, and had a really interesting story and relatively fun puzzles, even though I don't especially LIKE puzzles. I went looking up a sequel as soon as I finished the game, as it ends on a cliff-hanger (at least in my opinion.) It's being worked on; hope it happens eventually.

What consoles did you purchase in 2022 (if any)?

Umm...I think I got my Steamdeck this year. That must have been this year, right? Once you have a console for a month or two, it feels like you've always had it...even though I have hardly played on it at ALL, so far. The games I have on my wishlist are still in Early Access and many already released games are not yet supported on the Deck.

What games (if any) are you looking forward to in 2023?

Legend of Zelda: TEARS OF THE KINGDOM! Of course! I'm hoping for more BotW, basically. I don't have any specific expectations of it other than that it have good exploration. Please have good exploration, BotW2!

I'm also looking forward to Legend of Heroes: Trails to Azure, but in a much more low-key way, since I already know the story.

2023 is perhaps the year that is beginning with the fewest things to look forward to in a long time, for me. By now I'd normally have half a dozen games to be getting excited about. Devs are also being a little more careful about not announcing release dates any more, though.

Games that you wanted but weren't able to purchase?

I'm never sure I really understand this question. Games releasing in 2022 (on my console of choice) that I passed by because I wasn't certain about them, or because they released too close to other games for budget or time reasons, would be:

-Pokemon Arceus
-Kena Bridge of Spirits
-Outer Wilds
-Astroneer
-Edge of Eternity
-Digimon Survive
-Potion Permit
-Amnesia: Memories Crowd + Later
-No Man's Sky
-Nier Automata
-Persona 5 Royal
-Star Ocean 6: The Divine Force
-Harvestella
-Pokemon Violet
-Crisis Core

Games that you wanted to play (that you own or borrowed) but just weren't able to get around to playing

Xenoblade Chronicles X. I always want to be playing that game, but it's on Wii U, and I'm afraid to use my rickety old Wii U. Plus I have a liiiiitle bit of hope that XCX may be remade or remastered for the Switch successor, in which case it'd be nice to leave a replay until then for best freshness.

And I wanted to finish Egglia Rebirth, just to get it out of the way, but it wasn't interesting enough to hold my attention so I dropped it several times and didn't end up completing it this year.

Favorite gaming song/s and/or OST? :

I just don't notice game soundtracks very much. They're almost always too placid/soothing for me. The only game music I tend to like is BOSS BATTLE music. Xenoblade 3's soundtrack was probably the best of the year, though like XC2, it was duller than I prefer...XC1 and XCX have vigorous, exciting music, and XC2 had super low-key music and XC3's was a bit better, I think, but still not up to the standard of the other two, for me. Good music, just...I'm always soothed. I'm always sleepy. I need ROUSING music, and most games don't deliver that...they make with the lullabyes to tinkle away sweetly in the background. I did like boss battle music in FFXIV a fair bit, though...mostly when I got to Trials.

Which genre did you play the most of?

I played a big mix this year, more than usual. Lots of indies, too, which normally isn't a 'me' thing since I must admit I enjoy games with high production values. STILL...looks like overall, I spent the most time as I always do...playing life-sims and JRPGs.

Did you replay any older games this year? If so which ones?

I completely replayed Ni No Kuni II, and did some of the DLC content that i never did the first time. I also FINALLY finished Skytree Village, which I got half way through years ago. I've been tinkering with an ANB replay, too, and My Time at Portia.

Favorite characters of the year?

The XC3 cast was very likeable, though I didn't have a particular favourite among them...they were a good ensemble cast. And I do love Randy Orlando, as he is in the Crossbell games (Zero and Azure). He's nowhere near as good moved to Erebonia to the Cold Steel games, but he's pretty cool in his own environment.

I'm also super interested in my avatar character in FFXIV. In other words, I'm quite interested in the Warrior or Light. I've got theories. Sure they'll be wrong, but I don't care...they still make me want to write very loose fanfiction :) That's how I know when I REALLY like a character...I start imagining other stories a character like that could be the centre of.

Favorite gaming announcements/news of the year?

Tears of the Kingdom. Though I was happy about P4G on Switch, too, and FFVIIR - Part 2, though with it saying it'll be winter 2023, it's pretty certain its release date will be in 2024.

Disappointing gaming announcements/news of the year?

Were there any special disappointments? I don't recall. Since I no longer hold out for good news from Marvelous, I think my expectations never get shaken much any more.

Anything other thoughts?

2022 may have been my dullest gaming year. But 2022 was an INSANE year for me, irl. INSANE. We had dementia, the death of my father, THREE house purchases, moving, closure and sale of the business and home that's been ours for 40 years, a new house and business being built, my body went to garbage with what appears to be permanent nerve pain, my mom went whole-hog into her/their religion and it's changing various family dynamics...it's the most unreasonable year ever. It's a wonder I played anything. I only remember any of it because I keep a list, lol, of all my purchases and completions!

I got the most games ever in 2022 I think, but it's because about a dozen of them were FREE, either via promotions or by being gifted to me. I got more games, yet probably spent less money on gaming in 2022 than most other years. It's made me think maybe I should try limiting my game budget to the cost equivalent to no more than 1 AAA game per month ($80 CAD, pre-tax.) I managed that in 2022 easily enough with almost every game I got being on good sales, plus all the free ones. But could I do it ON PURPOSE?

Personal or general gaming predictions for 2023?

I predict a quieter year than 2022, at least lol. Unless my mom is right and armageddon is really right around the corner (lol?) Well, that's on a personal level, that is...not so sure that 2023 will be all that calm for the world itself. Just let me have Tears of the Kingdom, 2023. I'm going into this year with the fewest games to look forward to, EVER. So I suspect it will be a busy announcement year...devs have been keeping their announcements close, for there to be so little already assigned to 2023's release calendar. I don't have any special predictions though. I don't think VR is going to suddenly take off or anything like that, and I don't think we'll see any new console announcements in 2023.

I've entered a new stage of life, it seems, with my family and with my health. I still play a lot and probably always will, because unless I'm just out enjoying nature, I tend to prefer existing in game and book worlds rather than the real one. But it's harder to get excited about things, now. I don't know if it's being jaded, or just being realistic via experience. I may replay more old favourites this year than buy new.

How many games did you finish this year? (doesn't have to be an exact amount, estimate!)

I'd guess somewhere between 10 and 15. I'm not sure how many of those were actually in 2021, somehow the years have blended together a bit for me.

Favorite game/s that you played in 2022 (doesn't have to have necessarily came out this year)

Xenoblade Chronicles 3, no question asked. It was really just a masterpiece to me and made me feel a lot of emotions. Next up, I'll give honorable mentions to Life is Strange: True Colors and Trails from Zero.

Least favorite or game/s that let you down that you played in 2022:

I wouldn't call it letdown, as I have not yet finished either, but both Fire Emblem and Rune Factory have disappointed my fan heart a little. Not because they were bad, but I expected more from series I really loved, and I guess after two really strong games (RF4 and FE 3 Houses respectively), their runner-ups RF5 and 3 Hopes can't quite measure up.

Game/s that surprised you the most:

Even if Tempest. While the game itself crashed quite frequently on me and made me feel a bit frustrated, I really got into the story. At some points it got dark enough that I was surprised this was actually happening. And while I don't feel like it was necessarily very good in the romance department, I did enjoy it for what it was.

What consoles did you purchase in 2022 (if any)?

None!

What games (if any) are you looking forward to in 2023?

- Persona 3 Portable
- Fire Emblem Engage
- Hogwarts Legacy
- Trails to Azure
- LoZ: Tears of the Kingdom
- JackJeanne
- Trails into Reverie
- Story of Seasons AWL
- Our Life 2
- Rune Factory 3 Special

Games that you wanted but weren't able to purchase?

Not really. I always have a wishlist, but I could have purchased them if I wanted to, just didn't want to spend so much money at one time. MH: Sunbreak would be on the top of that list, but mostly because I don't see a reason to get it if I haven't even come close to getting through the base game. :)

Games that you wanted to play (that you own or borrowed) but just weren't able to get around to playing

Pokémon Violet and Horizon Zero Dawn. I think I need more mental energy to get immersed in them than I currently have, so I've been putting them off until a better time where I can enjoy them more.

Favorite gaming song/s and/or OST?

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 - The Weight of Life

Which genre did you play the most of?

It's a wild mix of otome games and (J)RPGs. Those are my favourite genres, so it's not very surprising.

Did you replay any older games this year? If so which ones?

Trails of Cold Steel, and also Bustafellows - in anticipation for the 2nd game.

Favorite characters of the year?

Oof that's difficult. Lanz from Xenoblade and Lloyd from Trails from Zero, those are the ones I can think of from the top of my head rn, not including old favourites from games I replayed. I also really adored Claude's character in 3 Hopes, even though I listed the game as a bit of a letdown. Noritsune from Birushana was surprisingly cool, too, I didn't expect him to become my favourite of the game so quickly.

Favorite gaming announcements/news of the year?

Bustafellows getting a sequel (that hopefully will get localized).

Disappointing gaming announcements/news of the year?

None really, though I'm not that enthused about SOS: AWL, I guess I would've liked a remake of Animal Parade more - though of course it is the newer game, in comparison, so I'm not surprised they picked AWL.

Personal or general gaming predictions for 2023?

I think it will be a very packed year, and I hope it won't disappoint anyone. :)

How many games did you finish this year? (doesn't have to be an exact amount, estimate!)
According to my list, I've finished or accomplished major goals in 18 games this year. That's the most ever since I started keeping track in 2019! :)
Spoiler:
Mini Metro
Tricky Towers
Super Monkey Ball 2
Hades
Hamtaro: Ham-Hams Unite!
Hamtaro: Ham-Ham Heartbreak
Hamtaro: Ham-Ham Games
Baba Is You
Kingdoms and Castles
Rhythm Heaven
My Nintendo Zelda Picross
Fossil Corner
Sneezies
Tamagotchi Connection: Corner Shop 2
Pushmo
Learn Japanese To Survive: Hiragana Battle
Dinogotchi
OlliOlli
Favourite game/s that you played in 2022 (doesn't have to have necessarily came out this year)
My overall favourite has been Rune Factory 4S, which is the first Rune Factory game I've played, but that's not at all surprising considering that I love both farming sims and RPGs. I also played/replayed Hamtaro: Ham-Hams Unite!, Hamtaro: Ham-Ham Heartbreak, and Hamtaro: Ham-Ham Games at a bit of a rough point in the year and they were the perfect thing to pick me up and get me through that time.

Least favourite or game/s that let you down that you played in 2022:
Legends Arceus was a bit of a let-down for me, but I think it was partly circumstances that made it not click with me and I'm willing to give it another shot later. I also played a game called Dinogotchi which had a really interesting premise (Tamagotchi but with dinosaurs), but unfortunately the execution wasn't as good as I'd hoped. I got it really cheap so no big loss, and I still enjoyed the cuteness of it at least.

Game/s that surprised you the most:
I started Final Fantasy VII (the original) which I've never played before and I was blown away by how immersive and detailed it is. The soundtrack is also phenomenal. I've only played the first part of it so far but definitely looking forward to continuing that in the future. The Hamtaro games are also worth mentioning, as despite being licensed games for the GBC and GBA they're actually pretty solid games and were a lot of fun to play.

What consoles did you purchase in 2022 (if any)?
No consoles to speak of, but I did get my Switch Lite's analog sticks repaired which has breathed some new life into it. The repair process was overall a good experience, and it was much cheaper than replacing the whole console so I'm happy with that decision.

What games (if any) are you looking forward to in 2023?
Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life! I did play the original as a kid but never got very far into it, so I'm hoping to finally finish it. I'm loving most of the design choices I've seen as well, so can't wait to play it! Honourable mention to Rune Factory 3 Special, which I've never played but I enjoyed 4 Special a ton so looking forward to this one as well.

Games that you wanted but weren't able to purchase?
Phew I bought a lot of games this year, between the 3DS eShop announcement and visiting a lot of used game stores on a trip this summer. One game that I do really want that I wasn't able to get, however, is Hamtaro: Rainbow Rescue, but since it only released in Europe it's hard finding an affordable copy (or affordable shipping) here. I also want the one DS Hamtaro game that was released here, as well as the Japan-exclusive ones, but I haven't found any deals that are worth springing for yet.

Games that you wanted to play (that you own or borrowed) but just weren't able to get around to playing
There's a list a mile long, but one notable category is all the 3DS digital games I picked up after the eShop closure announcement. Some more specific examples (both digital and physical) would would be the Persona Q games, some SMT games, and some Etrian Odyssey games. There's also some monster catchers I wanted to play (the first Fossil Fighter game, Monster Hunter Stories, the second Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth game, and Monster Sanctuary) but it always felt too close to a Pokémon release to start those.

Favourite gaming song/s and/or OST?
Final Fantasy VII gets a lot of praise for its OST and after playing some I definitely agree that it's warranted. Rune Factory 4 Special also has some really nice music in it and I like that the soundfonts they used give it a classic RPG feel at times. If I had to pick one song from each to highlight, I would say Cosmo Canyon from FFVII and Sercerezo Hill from RF4S were two of my favourites. Shoutout also to the West Province theme from Pokémon Violet, which I first heard through the speakers of my brother's Switch and made him turn up so that I could listen better - I just love the almost medieval vibe it has going for it. Finally, I want to give an honourable mention to Chaos Carnival from Splatoon 3, which is a game I haven't played at all but I was shown this song and it's extremely interesting from a music theory perspective.

Which genre did you play the most of?
Probably life sims, RPGs, and puzzle games, which is par for the course for me.

Did you replay any older games this year? If so which ones?
I went back and played through Hamtaro: Ham-Hams Unite! which I had played a bit when I was younger, and enjoyed it so much I played the rest of the Hamtaro games I had as well. I also played another childhood game, Super Monkey Ball 2, which I started the year before but beat this year for the first time (those later levels were no joke!).

Favourite characters of the year?
I didn't play a ton of character-focused games this year but I still have a few answers. First is probably Leon from RF4S - if the game had gay marriage I'd marry him in a heartbeat. Another one is Sephiroth from FFVII - I already thought he was cool in Smash Bros, but learning more about him and his past with Cloud has me very intrigued.

Favourite gaming announcements/news of the year?
Definitely the SoS:AWL remake announcement! It's a game I'd really like to finish someday and having a portable version will make that so much easier. RF3S was also exciting since I don't own that one and cartridges have become really expensive. Shoutout also to the Persona 3 and 5 ports - even though I've played those already, I'm excited that those games are becoming more accessible to more people (including my siblings!).

Disappointing gaming announcements/news of the year?
The original Harvest Moon and HM64 being announced for the Switch online service as Japan exclusives. I know there's probably licensing issues stopping them from releasing them here, but I'd really like to be able to play those both on Switch. :(

Anything other thoughts?
I really only played FFVII in January this year but it's come up so many times while writing this that it seems like I've played it a lot more - maybe that's a sign I should get back to it!

Personal or general gaming predictions for 2023?
One of my disappointments of this year is that I had a really hard time starting new games (something that's already hard for me, but was made even harder due to circumstance). I'm hoping that things will be more stable next year and I can start more new games than I did this year, particularly some longer RPGs that have been sitting around for a while.
My video game piano arrangements (including Harvest Moon, Story of Seasons, Rune Factory, and Stardew Valley!) :lala:

How many games did you finish this year? (doesn't have to be an exact amount, estimate!)

12...that I counted. A third of those I forgot before going back over the Backlog thread. Not great, on my part.

Favorite game/s that you played in 2022 (doesn't have to have necessarily came out this year)

Elden Ring was by far the most unique, special gaming 'experience' I had this year. The best open world game I've ever played (imo upgraded the open world experience to the degree BotW did over the Ubisoft formula, just...again). And having never played a Soulsborne game, this was my first time experiencing that community from the inside. I only played solo, so I didn't get invaded by players, but the communal trolling and memes ("Fort night" "Dog") and finding things BECAUSE somebody helped me, finding my way out of a dungeon I was absolutely LOST in... because I deciphered a note somebody left... conquering a boss and finding a field of messages from people feeling the same relief and triumph. THAT was incredible. And something I don't think that can be found anywhere else in gaming.

The world was beautiful, surprises around every corner. The descent into Siofra River and walking into Leyndell for the first time were my favorites. Siofra happened on my first night, Leyndell probably 40 hours in. I just kinda sat still and marveled for a minute before moving on.

I'd still like to go back and play the other Soulsborne games...probably save for Sekiro (good game, just a little rich for my baby gamer blood ). The experience won't be exactly the same, but I have enough of a new appreciation for the genre now to tempt me.

Least favorite or game/s that let you down that you played in 2022:

If I have to pick... Ni no Kuni. Only game I dropped this year. As cute of a game as I expected, but far more antiquated than I expected. I think I put 25-30 hours in, about half of which were spent grinding. I am over level grinding in games. The only way I can stand it is if I can grind for levels while doing something else, dungeon runs for ingredients for things I need to make, grinding while questing, etc. But to just sit in an area and run through the same fights over and over just to get to a level that a boss doesn't slap you to death... nah. I'm not here for it. Very much a shame.

Game/s that surprised you the most:

Portal 2, probably. Biggest surprise was how little I was spoiled on the game, after this long. The puzzles in that game are SO GOOD. The story is very...personal, as to if you care for it, but in terms of gameplay, there may not be a better sequel.

What consoles did you purchase in 2022 (if any)?

None! Feels good. Hardware is still holding up, should be good for at least another year.

What games (if any) are you looking forward to in 2023?

No hype yet. When we're a little closer to the release of Silksong and BotW2, I'll get there.

Games that you wanted but weren't able to purchase?

Quite a few, all very intentional though. Pretty proud of myself that the only purchases I made when I was already busy with a game was for a charity bundle.

Games that you wanted to play (that you own or borrowed) but just weren't able to get around to playing

Stuff from the charity bundles, is all.

Favorite gaming song/s and/or OST?

Wind Waker - Molgera boss fight + Farewell Hyrule King are peak highlights
Genshin Impact - the whole Sumeru OST is great, Scaramouche boss fight being top of the pile
Harvestella has had a surprisingly good soundtrack. My favorite (aside from the theme for the dungeon I'm in now, which slaps) has been the arrangements for quest related conversations. It's the same song, but each town has their own arrangement of the song to match where you're at. Smart, and it helps the song not wear out its welcome over the course of a very long game.

Which genre did you play the most of?
Action/adventure by number of hours, puzzle by number of games. (I played way more puzzle games this year than I thought...)

Did you replay any older games this year? If so which ones?

A Dragon Quest Builders 2 replay got me through house construction, and later in the year I did a story-only playthrough of Wind Waker that got me big time into listening to video game OSTs.

Favorite characters of the year?

Aria - Harvestella
Hewg (Blacksmith) - Elden Ring

Favorite gaming announcements/news of the year?

I dunno, honestly. There's so much gaming news I can't even say for sure what got announced this year?

Disappointing gaming announcements/news of the year?
Microsoft acquisition of Activision Blizzard. Nothing has gotten better at Activision, Microsoft has done « Snuggly Bunny » all to make it better, they're just trying to stomp out competition. I feel ZERO pity after everything they've done. :x

Anything other thoughts?

This makes...two years now, I think, of my being a mostly PC gamer. I played/purchased one game on my Switch this year, that I could have gotten on PC and just decided to get on Switch for the portability. Kinda wish I'd gone laptop instead, now that I think of it.

It's a very weird transition. I grew up suctioned to Nintendo consoles, Harvest Moon being the first thing to tempt me off of the platform. And now Nintendo is having a very tough time selling their games to me. Strange times.

Personal or general gaming predictions for 2023?

I'm very curious how Mihoyo is going to navigate BotW2 "Tears of the Kingdom" with the release of their next area/story section. Considering how many people (myself included) picked up Genshin to fill in the void until the next Zelda game, they have to know how careful they have to be, releasing a huge chunk of content right around one of the biggest releases of the year... :|

How many games did you finish this year? (doesn't have to be an exact amount, estimate!)

I honestly don't think I finished any games... uh. Maybe Tales of Arise? Did that come out in 2022? Honestly this entire past year has been such a blur to me.

Favorite game/s that you played in 2022 (doesn't have to have necessarily came out this year)

Harvestella, but I honestly barely played anything this year besides FFXIV.

Least favorite or game/s that let you down that you played in 2022:

N/A

Game/s that surprised you the most:

Harvestella. I was expecting not a lot based on the demo, but figured as long as it wasn't a 10-15 hour length game I'd pick it up anyway, expecting 30 hours max to complete. Boy was I surprised at just how much content there is in that game!

What consoles did you purchase in 2022 (if any)?

Hmmm. Switch OLED I think was purchased this year.

What games (if any) are you looking forward to in 2023?

Zelda! And FFXVI! And Theatrhythm! And some others I can't think of right now, but to be honest, my list is pretty small.

Games that you wanted but weren't able to purchase?

Live a Live. I cannot justify that price. Nothing to do with being able to afford it so much as a $50 price tag slapped on a game that's actually fairly short.

Games that you wanted to play (that you own or borrowed) but just weren't able to get around to playing

There's always a lot. Bayonetta 3 is still waiting to be completed.

Favorite gaming song/s and/or OST?

I re-discovered the NieR OST's. Ethereal and amazing.

Which genre did you play the most of?

RPG.

Did you replay any older games this year? If so which ones?

I think FFXIV counts for this.

Favorite characters of the year?

N/A

Favorite gaming announcements/news of the year?

N/A

Disappointing gaming announcements/news of the year?

N/A

Anything other thoughts?

I hope now that grad school is finished I can do things like game and read books again regularly.

Personal or general gaming predictions for 2023?

Nah, I just like to take things as they come since getting myself all hyped up over nothing usually ends in disappointment.

How many games did you finish this year? (doesn't have to be an exact amount, estimate!)

About 12 that I finished for the first time, a couple more if you count replays.

Favorite game/s that you played in 2022 (doesn't have to have necessarily came out this year)

My favorites this year were probably Staxel, Arceus, Ni No Kuni 2, and Pokemon Violet.

Least favorite or game/s that let you down that you played in 2022:

Maybe Nexomon? I love the lampoon take on Pokemon, but the spike in difficulty as you progress is not fun, and it got to the point that I just hated battling period in it. It's a shame because I liked the story and writing. Part of the problem too may have been me getting the match ups confused since the types are slightly different than Pokemon. If I ever go back to it I would probably have to just restart and I don't know if I want to waste my time doing that or not.

Game/s that surprised you the most:

I think The Pokemon Trading Card Game GBC did that. It really got me to thinking and strategizing when the game was off too, leading up to a big "YES!" moment when I actually beat the story. I was surprised because I didn't really think cards were my thing, even though I have played them occasionally in the past. I always thought I was more into video games than tabletop or card games.

What games (if any) are you looking forward to in 2023?

Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
Snacko
Tales of Symphonia
The new Natsume Harvest Moon I can't remember the name of, lol.
Ys X and the other Ys game they are planning on porting to Switch, though I am not sure when they are coming out/ coming to the West.

Games that you wanted but weren't able to purchase?

I actually ended up getting most of the games I really wanted, though I always have a wishlist I sift through every so often. I would have included Harvestella here, but I actually bought it yesterday. I really wanted a physical copy, and I was starting to get concerned the physical version might get harder to find at a reasonable price. Since Walmart had it back in stock for $39, and I had some rewards coupons, I got it for about $5 less than that. It won't probably come for a few weeks, but I'm not in a rush.

Games that you wanted to play (that you own or borrowed) but just weren't able to get around to playing?

A lot of DS games, lol.

Favorite gaming song/s and/or OST?

Not sure about a favorite, but I quite liked the majority of the tracks in Xenoblade DE.

Which genre did you play the most of?

Kind of a mixed bag of life/farm sims, building, monster battling, and ARPGs.

Did you replay any older games this year? If so which ones?

I replayed SoS: FoMT, Cattails, and Arceus. I also revisited some others, but not to completion.

Favorite gaming announcements/news of the year?

I was highly entertained by the reaction to the "farming direct" lol.

Disappointing gaming announcements/news of the year?

I'm kind of disappointed that there hasn't been and maybe won't be any talk of Dragon Quest X coming to the West. The Japanese demo was really fun, but so wordy I had to give up after a while as I don't know Japanese and it was to hard to keep up with Google Translate.

How many games did you finish this year? (doesn't have to be an exact amount, estimate!)

Lol, not many. In total, I finished six games this year, four being indie games and two being major rpg's. It's a little depressing for me because I didn't beat much, but I did have a decent year of playing games I guess. Still, the ones I finished were fun games and I'm glad I supported indie devs more.

Favorite game/s that you played in 2022 (doesn't have to have necessarily came out this year)

Hands down Pokemon Legends Arceus. I didn't play much of this game when it came out last January and I admit I didn't like it much either. My main problem with the game was the lack of towns, the majority of the gameplay being catching Pokemon (I usually don't like this), and a lack of trainers. However, in November I decided to play the game and it ended up being an amazing game for me. I was so happy to finally enjoy a Pokemon switch game, and ended up loving it. I enjoyed it so much, I even restarted the game halfway through and beating it my second playthrough. I really liked the character in the game, the story was decent, and it was fun being around my Pokemon. I also liked the uniqued gameplay, especially with the boss battles. I also learned to not mind the catching mechanic and even grew to like this. This is because it fits with the story, and the developers did a good job with making it more immersive. I admit, the graphics aren't the best and I can understand why others may not like it, but I just really enjoyed the game. It also fueled my love for Eevee once again  .

I also loved Unpacking. It's a short, but relaxing game that I played and beat in July. Was fun and told it's narrative in an interesting way. My only gripe with the game is a random puzzle that was a bit confusing, but outside of that, it's a good game.

Least favorite or game/s that let you down that you played in 2022:

This game is not my least favorite, but it did let me down. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet was a game I really wanted to love, but sadly as the release date came closer, I realized I should get my hopes up. A part of me was right. The game was a disappointed for me in some areas. First off the graphics (no surprise.) The thing is, I tend to be very tolerant with graphics. I can get through mediocre or even glitchy graphics, but with these games it's hard. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet aren't indie games. They are part of a multi billon dollar franchise. These games should not have been released in the state they were in. While I can look past the graphic problems for myself, I cannot in me condone how these games are rushed and haven't really been fixed with updates. Another thing that was a major let down for me were the town. While most look pretty good, they were pointless. The only reason to do anything in a town are for the gyms, and making sandwiches, which I admit I didn't care much about. Also, outside of the main characters, npcs really are pointless and boring.

I really wish Game Freak had taken more time with these games because I do believe they could've been one of the best Pokemon games if they had done so. Still, despite my disappointment, these games also surprise me in a good ways. Please read below...

Game/s that surprised you the most:

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. These are weird games in that, despite my disappointment, I did enjoy them. I would/will replay them. It's just these games needed more care given to them and I understand those who don't like these games. Still, I loved the characters and story in these games, along with the exploration. While the exploration itself isn't the best, it was still fun. As for the characters and Story, I was really happy with how I cared about both. I also liked the school aspect. The Pokemon were good as well and I loved my party in Scarlet. So yeah, while this game was a bit of a disappointment for me, I didn't hate or dislike it. I just can't completely gloss over some major problems. Still, I will replay these games and do see wby people love them. I like them as well.

Also, Pokemon Legends Arceus. This game truly surprised me. I honestly didn't think I'd love it so much. In all honestly. Pokemon Scarlet has the better story and characters, and I was happy to play a more traditional Pokemon game, but I really grew to love Legends Arceus. This I will no doubt replay. I want to try different Pokemon.

What consoles did you purchase in 2022 (if any)?
Playstation 5(got it as a late Christmas present)
Steam Deck
(need to play one these both more)

What games (if any) are you looking forward to in 2023?

Story of Season A Wonderful Life
Hogwarts Legacy
Trails to Azure
Trails from Reverie

Games that you wanted but weren't able to purchase?

Dragon Quest Treasures

Games that you wanted to play (that you own or borrowed) but just weren't able to get around to playing

Yakuza Like a Dragon
Tokyo Mirage

Favorite gaming song/s and/or OST?

N/A

Which genre did you play the most of?

Simulation Games and Rpg's. This is not a surprise to me.

Did you replay any older games this year? If so which ones?

Pokemon Leafgreen and Firered
Digimon Cyberslueth
Animal Crossing Game Cube
Final Fantasy 9
Blue Reflection 2

Favorite characters of the year?
Direct Clavell(Pokemon Scarlet and Violet)
Professor Laventon (Pokémon Legends: Arceus)
Arata(Pokemon Cyberslueth)
Vivi(Final Fantasy 9)
Ichiban(Yakuza Like a Dragon)
Ao(Blue Reflection 2)

Favorite gaming announcements/news of the year?
None really. Kind of Story of Seasons A Wonderful Life. Not much gaming news that I know about honestly.

Disappointing gaming announcements/news of the year?
Not much because I haven't really been with the news, but a few things. First being anything with Square Enix and nft related. Second, Activision and how Microsoft likely won't do anything or much of making them take responsibility for the things they've done. And last, Blue Reflection mobile game. I won't get into it, but it's obviously going to be a cash grab game and ruins a unique franchise...Can't think of anything else right now.

Anything other thoughts?

I hope 2023 will be a decent year, that we all get through it, and that I can game a bit more. I also hope that I can make the needed changes for my life. I also hope some more games come out that I'm interested in. I also really want to finish more games and maybe even complete my own.

Personal or general gaming predictions for 2023?
N/A

Anyway, I hope everyone has a good new year and are with loved ones. Here's hoping that 2023 will be an okay year.

I've been gone for a bit, but I didn't want to miss this board!

How many games did you finish this year? (doesn't have to be an exact amount, estimate!)

17! + 2 more I started but didn't finish.

Favorite game/s that you played in 2022 (doesn't have to have necessarily came out this year)

Kirby: Forgotten Lands and Pokemon Legends Arceus, for sure. Kirby was absolutely solid, a delight to 100%. Everything felt so polished, it didn't overstay it's welcome... and that last, true final boss was So Much Fun to defeat.

I ended up playing through PLA twice - once when it came out, and a second time months later. It gave me the pokemon world/concept (which I love, and is the reason I kept buying games) without the usual pokemon gameplay loop (which is the reason I never finished the games).

Least favorite or game/s that let you down that you played in 2022:

FE Warriors: Three Hopes. It just felt... incomplete. Every route ended with a little text blurb that explained how the war actually ended, and they really didn't do as much with the Agarthans as I expected going in.

Game/s that surprised you the most:

Some of the indie games I picked up on a whim!

Toem was just. An absolutely blast start to finish. It's a short little photography/exploration game that I really love.

Lunistice was a 3d platformer I got for only $5, and it was astonishingly polished. Again, short, but absolutely worth it.

What consoles did you purchase in 2022 (if any)?
-

What games (if any) are you looking forward to in 2023?

LoZ: Tears of the Kingdom, along with what seems like half the planet. But also SoS:AWL and Pikmin 4 (assuming it doesn't get postponed).

Games that you wanted but weren't able to purchase?

Mmmm... I suppose you could say Eldin Ring? I'd like to play it, but I don't trust my laptop to run it reliably so I'm waiting till I have a steam deck. And that has to wait until several months into 2023, for budget reasons.

Games that you wanted to play (that you own or borrowed) but just weren't able to get around to playing
-

Favorite gaming song/s and/or OST?

You know... nothing stands out to me, this year? Not that the music wasn't good in anything I played (I played a Kingdom Hearts game this year, and the Kirby music is wonderfully cheerful) it's just that there's nothing that really made me pause.

Which genre did you play the most of?

Hm... the best way to describe it would be various types of Adventure game, I think.

Did you replay any older games this year? If so which ones?

Depends what you mean by "old", but I replayed quite a few. A Short Hike, KH2, Wind Waker, and DQXI. Hollow Knight as well, though I didn't actually finish it.

Favorite characters of the year?

The cast from Xenoblade Chronicle 3 was really good. I had a blast with Eunie and Taion's dynamic, especially.

Favorite gaming announcements/news of the year?

Probably the Pikmin 4 announcement! Don't get me wrong, the Tears of the Kingdom trailer was great, but I did not expect Pikmin 4 at all (and then he also faked us out by talking about Pikmin Bloom for a while first...). I don't particularly trust that "2023" release date, but good to know it's really coming!

Disappointing gaming announcements/news of the year?

I guess Pokemon S/V going back to a battle-based gameplay loop? Like, I knew they would do that, that's what the series is built on, but... As someone who's not huge on the battle system, Arceus was so nice because something other than battling was your main goal in the game. :(

Ah, well. Here's hoping we'll get another Legends game, eventually.

Anything other thoughts?

I'm mostly a Switch player, with some PC thrown in, and it really feels like Nintendo's ecosystem is slowing down. I've never been too worried about the so-called "switch pro", but I'm starting to hope we'll get news on the next system some time in the next 2 years, as that usually comes with around of games from the major IPs.

Personal or general gaming predictions for 2023?

Hm... as it stands right now, I think I'll be working through the backlog of games I've been interested in in the past, when it comes to purchases. There's always the chance the first Nintendo Direct of the year will have some suprise big announcements, but... Zelda, Story of Seasons, and Pikmin are the only things I'm aware of for the next year.

How many games did you finish this year? (doesn't have to be an exact amount, estimate!)
Six if I remember correctly.

Favorite game/s that you played in 2022 (doesn't have to have necessarily come out this year)
Mass Effect Legendary Edition with mods (Really great experience with Qol mods installed)
Samurai of Hyuga Book 5 (one of my favorite books of the series so far!)
Arcadie Second Born (Love how the characters are written!)
Coral Island (Although EA, it has a lot of potentials and I'm looking forward to the 1.0 update)
Fallen Hero Rebirth

Least favorite or game/s that let you down that you played in 2022:
Errant Kingdom. The last-minute announcement for the delay and the change of release format again after waiting for a year has disappointed me a lot. I hope they will be able to deliver their promise and hopefully, Call Me Under will have better project management than Errant Kingdom.

Game/s that surprised you the most:
Arcadie Second Born. I didn't follow the WIP but it was recommended to me the IF forum I frequent. Didn't disappoint me that's for sure.

What consoles did you purchase in 2022 (if any)?
None.

What games (if any) are you looking forward to in 2023?
Hogwart's Legacy
Story of Season A Wonderful Life
Wayhaven Chronicles Book 3
Fallen Hero Retribution
Persona 3 Portable
Baldur's Gate 3
Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty Expansion.

Games that you wanted but weren't able to purchase?
Marvel's Midnight Sun. Although I am hyped to create an MC and interact with Marvel's heroes, I was unsure if I will like it though so I will wait for a sale.

Games that you wanted to play (that you own or borrowed) but just weren't able to get around to playing
Judgement series.

Favorite gaming song/s and/or OST?
N/A

Which genre did you play the most of?
RPGs as usual.

Did you replay any older games this year? If so which ones?
Mass Effect series and the Dragon Age series.
Fallen Hero Rebirth (Creating a save for my Book 2 run)

Favorite characters of the year?
It's hard to choose to be honest.

Favorite gaming announcements/news of the year?
Story of Season A Wonderful Life

Disappointing gaming announcements/news of the year?
N/A

Anything other thoughts?
I am excited for 2023!

Personal or general gaming predictions for 2023?
Most likely I will finish the majority of my games bought in the 1st Quarter. Hopefully...

Reading these is so much fun!

How many games did you finish this year?
32, I think? Counting... three VNs on PC, Pokemon Picross, and 28 I finished on Switch.

Favorite game/s that you played in 2022
Persona 5 Royal, which I am trying to finish up. It was just as good as I'd hoped, and I'm so happy it finally came out on Switch! I also really enjoyed Pokemon Scarlet, and I really really loved Chronicles of Tal'Dun: The Remainder.

Least favorite or game/s that let you down that you played in 2022
Hmm... probably Moonlighter, which was fairly well-loved but just didn't click with me for a variety of reasons. I also didn't care for sweet pool or Novena Diabolos, both VNs on PC.

Game/s that surprised you the most
It was Chronicles of Tal'dun! I didn't expect to get sucked in as hard as I was. I still think about it all the time. I was also surprised how much I liked Bit Orchard, which is simple but addicting.

Honorable mention to Puzzle & Dragon, which I've played since it came out... last February? They switched to weekly event pulls in July, and I've done those events every week. The real crime is that I had to count this as beat for my own sanity after I completed all the multiplayer goals, because I don't think the main quest is beatable without a good gacha team. The gacha pulls are hideously expensive, so I've only used free pulls and just pulled a team good enough for story mode last week. I started advancing through story mode again, but... I don't actually like this that much? Having a weekly goal to come back to is kinda nice, though.

What consoles did you purchase in 2022 (if any)?
None! I'm in a pretty good spot for gaming right now.

What games (if any) are you looking forward to in 2023?
DIABLO 4! IT'S DIABLO 4!

Other than that, Theatrhythm and the other two Persona games... and probably a few farming sims, SoSAWL, RF3S, HM, Roots of Pacha, and the final version of Coral Island, though I'd be surprised to see it this year.

Games that you wanted but weren't able to purchase?
Not a ton here, as I usually splurge for the cartridges I want out of FOMO, and won't buy digital unless I'm going to play it immediately. There's a handful of games I wish I had more time to play though, stuff I'll probably get to next year - KOTOR, Disco Elysium, Digimon, the beekeeping simulator, etc.

Games that you wanted to play (that you own or borrowed) but just weren't able to get around to playing
Ugh, a lot of these. In addition to the big games above, probably Doraemon SoS2, CollarxMalice, and a handful of narrative games I've got stacks of.

Favorite gaming song/s and/or OST?
Right now, probably the Persona 5 Royal soundtrack. It's good! And makes me want to listen to the P3 soundtrack again.

Which genre did you play the most of?
Proooobably RPG this year. I played My Time at Portia, RF5, (kinda)Worth Life, and Bit Orchard for farming sims, but I probably played a lot more RPGs, or spent more time on them (including Worth Life and RF5).

Did you replay any older games this year? If so which ones?
Diablo 3, which I usually play in January. ^_^; I've played A LOT of that.

Favorite characters of the year?
Probably Joker? As much time as I spent in other RPGs this year, I wasn't as fond of the characters as I am in P5R. Also, Larry from Pokemon S/V, who my partner and I still talk about all the time.

Favorite gaming announcements/news of the year?
It was Diablo IV! I thought this was still two years out.

Disappointing gaming announcements/news of the year?
Nothing, really?

Personal or general gaming predictions/trends for 2023?
I feel like there's not a lot of new Nintendo games coming soon, maybe because they're in development for the Next Console, but I doubt we'll see or hear about it in 2023. Does make me wonder if there'll be some surprise ports or Nintendo announcements this year.

FINISHED is probably somewhere between 10-15 games.

Favorite game/s that you played in 2022 (doesn't have to have necessarily came out this year)
If I had to pick a top 3... I suppose it'd be Pokemon Legends Arceus, Rune Factory 5, and Kirby and the Forgotten Land. Kirby was like... the best a Kirby game has been in a long time because they finally changed the formula up a little bit and it's just so fun with great replayability. Rune Factory 5, while I understand the criticisms and DEFINITELY agree with some, captivated me for a long time once it was released. Which kinda surprised me because I am one of few people who doesn't really care as much for RF4, at least compared to RF3, Frontiers, etc. Legends Arceus was exactly where Pokemon needed to move to and it's just sooooo fun. I enjoyed Violet a lot too, but it felt like a missed opportunity making Violet so many steps back compared to Arceus.

Least favorite or game/s that let you down that you played in 2022:
I think my only 2022 disappointment was Bayonetta 3's TRAGIC story. Specifically the ending like... why. But story is probably the least important think in any Bayonetta game and everything else was handled extremely well (AMAZING controls, fun gameplay, great music, incredibly campy and OTT).

Game/s that surprised you the most:
Harvestella! I thought it was gonna be a fairly mediocre Squenix attempt at a farming sim/Rune Factory-like game, but it has a lot of charm and actually is a fairly solid farming sim mashed with a fairly solid RPG. I haven't beat it quite yet, but I'm already thinking that I'd love some sort of sequel!

What consoles did you purchase in 2022 (if any)?
I actually purchased an OLED Switch on December 30th lmao as a little gift to myself to upgrade my 2017 Switch. Loving it.

What games (if any) are you looking forward to in 2023?
These are the games I have on my radar and will more than likely pick up (only listing the ones with release dates or "confirmed" windows). All Switch games.

Tales of Symphonia Remaster (Feb17)
Kirby Remaster (Feb24)
Rune Factory 3 Special (Spring)
Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster (Spring)
Zelda (May12)
A Wonderful Life Remake (Summer)

Games that you wanted but weren't able to purchase?
Tunic is probably the main game I didn't get the chance to buy and play that I'm super interested in from 2022. But there are other games from 2022 that I added to my wish list that I don't mind waiting to play (Chrono Cross, Persona).

Games that you wanted to play (that you own or borrowed) but just weren't able to get around to playing
I wanted to do a Hades replay. Now that Hades 2 is announced (I expect it to be on EA this year and full release 2024, which I'd wait for full release) I'll probably do that this year instead.

Favorite gaming song/s and/or OST?
Hard to think of at the moment, but all of Bayonetta 3's soundtrack and the Area Zero songs from Pokemon Scarlet/Violet were the first to come to mind.

Which genre did you play the most of?
I guess RPGs now that I think about it. Even the two farming sims I played most of (RF5 and Harvestella) are basically also half RPGs.

Did you replay any older games this year? If so which ones?
I basically played every N64 game they put on the Nintendo Switch Online all the way through since they're pretty fast games. I specifically kinda went down a Zelda re-play rabbit hole so I played OOT, MM, and ended up buying SS HD (which I'd played on Wii before and is still probably my least favorite mainline Zelda title lmao). I also bought Bayo 1+2 on Switch in anticipation of 3 (I'd already played 1+2 on Wii U before).

Favorite characters of the year?
My new favorite marriage candidate ever, Murakumo
Bayonetta, duh
Volo / Cogita / Adaman / Gaeric (Pokemon Legends Arceus)
Arven / Saguaro / Larry (Pokemon Scarlet/Violet)

Favorite gaming announcements/news of the year?
Probably gonna agree with SOS A Wonderful Life.

Disappointing gaming announcements/news of the year?
Absolutely seconding HMSNES and HM64 on Nintendo Switch Online being Japan-only announcements for the time only, the latter especially. I have slight hopes of them coming to other regions (they did it for Wii U after the Marv-XSEED/Natsume split) after Natsume promised "additional celebrations for the Harvest Moon brand's anniversary this year" but... we'll see.

Anything other thoughts?
This was a good year for me gaming wise! I think better than 2021, or at least I feel like I enjoyed MUCH more games this year than last year.

Personal or general gaming predictions for 2023?
Tears of the Kingdom will win GOTY. New Mario game, gonna guess something like Bowser's Fury, partially as a Mario movie promotion and partially because it's been a while since new game. No new Nintendo console in 2023, potential announcement either at E3 or towards EOY. Metroid Prime on Switch but just the first one because Nintendo like to be foolish. Last guess is Gameboy and Gameboy Color on NSO but not GBA because Nintendo likes to be foolish [2].

How many games did you finish this year? (doesn't have to be an exact amount, estimate!)
Three, maybe four. Full time life gives little time for gaming like I would like.

Favorite game/s that you played in 2022 (doesn't have to have necessarily came out this year)
Conan Exiles. Just kind of picked it up when some online friends were playing it. Got caught up in it. Like the building aspect the most.

Pokémon Scarlet. Playing with/against my daughter.

Least favorite or game/s that let you down that you played in 2022:
Rune Factory 5. Wasn't the worse, but certainly the one that let me down the most. First RF game that I just could not finish.

Game/s that surprised you the most:
My expectations are generally low so nothing really surprised me.

What consoles did you purchase in 2022 (if any)?
None. Just play on PC and Switch.

What games (if any) are you looking forward to in 2023?
Fire Emblem Engage, Starfield, Balder's Gate III.

Games that you wanted but weren't able to purchase?
Money isn't the issue with games for me, just time. Never enough time to play all I would like to play.

Games that you wanted to play (that you own or borrowed) but just weren't able to get around to playing
Solasta: Crown of the Magister. Again recommended so I bought it. Haven't had time to even install it yet.

Favorite gaming song/s and/or OST?
Since nothing is really coming to mind I'll assume nothing was really outstanding to me this year.

Which genre did you play the most of?
RPG's, often those with building bases and such as a feature. Also the typical HM/RF game and those similar.

Did you replay any older games this year? If so which ones?
No, no time.

Favorite characters of the year?
Tarakwi, a Pict archer/sorceress character I created for myself in Conan Exiles.

Favorite gaming announcements/news of the year?
None really. Haven't time to follow much.

Disappointing gaming announcements/news of the year?
Starfield being delayed, though admittedly that's better than Bethesda Game Studios putting out another bug-ridden game.

Anything other thoughts?
Sworn off games released using Early Access and also those with long Road-Maps after released (which IMO means they intentionally released an incomplete game). I get that many indie studios need the funds to push forward and complete the game, and I'm glad others will fund it for them, but I now will wait until a game is actually finished before buying. This mainly due to me not having the time to play a game again after it's been completed.

Personal or general gaming predictions for 2023?
Starfield will be good, but not great. As usually many of the big gameplay improvements they make to the game will be countered by very poor game features added to other areas.
