Didn't see a thread about this so decided to make one for convenience. I was personally expecting them skipping the direct for this summer since they seemed to have reveal trailers for most of the probable titles that could be showcased here. Don't know what to expect honestly. A Mario remake? Maybe they might even sneak in some stuff such as the Pokemon DLC and not do Pokemon Direct. Lots of possibilities.

Fair warning, remember to spoiler any leaks and so on!

I saw a rumor/leak about this a day or two ago but I don't have Twitter any more, so I don't see official announcements unless I go looking for them. I always enjoy NDs, even if they don't have anything for me, so will definitely watch it. There've been heavy rumours about Nintendo not having anything new to release in later 2023 so it'll be interesting to see what's in this...if there's anything by Nintendo themselves, other than Pikmin 4, which we've long known about at this point. (I think it's coming out in July. July 7th or 27th or something?) I really liked Pikmin 3 but it the time limits were very stressy, so I'm not 100% on whether I'll get this or not. I have a voucher, but there are other eligible games that I want, that are less likely to stress me out, so...not sure, yet.

Anyway, it's nice that the rumour turned out to be true (does it being true mean it was a leak rather than a rumour?) since NDs are fun, and I'm curious where the Switch is heading later this year since it really has begun to feel like Nintendo is starting to wrap the console up to get ready for a new one.

I wonder if they’ll be any more info about Professor Layton and the New World of Steam 🤔

Also, hasn’t there been some kind of rumor about a Mario side-scrolling game?

Yes! I'm pretty sure there was a rumor about a 2D mario game. So the grand reveal at the end of the direct might just be that this time if it's an actual thing that is. My predictions are PIKMIN 4 and Mario Kart DLC most likely. Hopefully we see a farming sim or two as well. The direct with farming games back to back was honestly the best. If anything XSEED would most likely try to get SoS:AWL and RF3S a short cameo. Unrealistically, we could get information on the new Rune Factory but I doubt it since it had been just shown in the Marvelous showcase. Sandrock was in the Indie Direct so most likely not. Fae Farm and Winds of Anthos maybe.

Usually, I could predict so much stuff for a Direct but this time around, I've ran out of options. Like Kikki said, it truly does feel like we're nearing the end of Switch cycle.

My thoughts on the Direct:
Spoiler:
The only thing I was really interested in besides the Pokémon Scarlet/Violet update was the new Peach game! I’m gonna assume it’s not Super Princess Peach 2 since I didn’t see Perry, but I could be wrong. Other than that, it’s nice to see Daisy in a Super Mario Bros game :D

I feel like this Direct is cementing my already well-set feelings that the Switch is winding down. By this, I'd say Nintendo doesn't want to commit a lot of resources to new games for a system they have probably internally already moved on from.

I do remember seeing Palia before. I wasn't expecting to see it in this Direct, though. Free-to-play, huh? I'm not clear on if it's a 'cozy-life' MMO or not. I think is. Even looking at the website, though, I'm not 100% sure. Well, FTP means you can at least try it out.

Not personally all that interested in any of the games, but it was a decent spread. Will very likely try Palia, and am still interested in Fae Farm, but I don't think this showed us anything new, except that it's a console exclusive...though I'm confused about that since I know it's coming to PC. Does PC not count as a console?

Saw the direct. Really wish they held it a bit later. Living in California, I had to get up at 7 lol. Anyway, it was an okay direct. Nothing too amazing for me, but I did find some interest in some games. I think for people who love/like Pikmin, Mario, and Solid Snake will be really happy by what was shown. Sadly, for those who were really hoping for Fantasy Life, nothing was said. When reading the comments, it seems a lot of people really wanted to see more about it.

As for me, I'm a bit excited for Dragon Quest Monsters. Not only is it a monster collecting game, but I believe it is turn based unlike Dragon Quest Treasures. I likely will pick this up if it's good. Also, though I'm not super into Mario, I may try Mario RPG. It's turn based, has pretty decent graphics, so maybe it'll be fun. Also detective Pikachu looks kind of cool and the Star Ocean remake, but not sure about those. Outside of these, I have some small interest in some other announced things, but nothing that makes me super hyped.

So yeah, the direct was okay. Obviously the Dragon Quest Monster game is the most interesting for me. I really wished they had given some more info on certain things, but it was okay.

Had a gut feeling they would show stuff from Pokemon and most likely not do a Pokemon Direct. It was an okay direct. Silent Hope is the title that had me most confused. It takes place in the same world as Rune Factory but has animal models from Story of Seasons. Seems to be more action-RPG than a farm sim so far.

There was way too much Mario though. I guess that is to be expected post the movie's success but 5 games back to back in the same Direct is excessive. But I guess there really wasn't anything else to show either.

Pretty sure there was an accurate leak before that talked about how "Pokemon DLC 2" would be one of the last things Nintendo does for the Switch. As time goes by, the more believable it becomes. Truly does feel like an end of Switch's era honestly. While that personally excites me for the next gen-console, I'm pretty sure my wallet wouldn't appreciate it

Wow that was a loaded one. Mario fans are eating good today. I was pretty indifferent about most of the games personally, with the exception of the Mario RPG remake! MY CHILDHOOD!!!! Loved that game to death as a kid. When the intro started at first I was like, "Oh, yay! Did they finally decide to put that on NSO?" Then as it continued I started screaming at the screen for most of the segment, so much so the kids ran in from what they were doing to see what was up, and my husband called from the other room asking if everything was all right, lol! Totally unexpected. I can take or leave most of the Mario games, but I LOVE that one! I also squeed for the new Zelda amiibo, didn't care about the new Ganon one people are probably going to be weird about though.

I thought Palia sounded interesting, and I am pretty sure now Fae Farm is not for me. Nice to have a Pokemon update, though it wasn't much new other than the Detective Pikachu game. Oh, and the "Pokemon" Dragon Quest is interesting too. ( Still wishing for DQB3, but if SE is willing to let Nintendo remake SMRPG now, miracles could happen. :) )

You know what wasn't on my bingo card today? A Dragon Quest IV prequel starring the main villain as a teenager. This is wild for me - DQIV being one of my favorite games of all time. Sofia (the female MC) is even my favorite silent protagonist in any game I've ever played with the trope. While I'm not hugely into the Dragon Quest Monsters spinoff series (it's basically their hand at Pokemon / Shin Megami Tensei), I can't skip this title - my DQIV superfan spirit compels me to buy it day one.

A Dragon Quest prequel wasn't on my bingo card but I'm here for it as well. Other than that, I wanted a farm sim and I guess I got two. Palia and Fae Farm. I wasn't really interested in Palia before this but the Direct made me search it and there seems to be offline game content as well including the story and romance so I'm excited about it now. I'm glad it's coming out in the Holiday season, September is too saturated! I'm inclined more towards Palia at the moment because it does seem to offer the core elements that I prefer in my farming sim.

The Pokemon DLC looks good but I'm not really excited for this gen anymore. SV disappointed me badly honestly. Think I'm gonna wait for the next gen before throwing away more money. Detective Pikachu looks rather rough too. Game Freak has become the definition of quantity over quality lately and that's sad. Hopefully they get back on track for the next console cycle. Really haven't been able to enjoy any Pokemon game that's come out on Switch. They have the ideas but the execution has been so bad lately.

Lots of Mario, I'm excited for the SMRPG remake. Never expected it to ever be remade due to the SE stuff. The new 2D Mario game looks really good as well. Other than that, Pikmin 4 looks so good as well. It seems we've also gotten into the remasters era of the Switch cycle so you can say we're truly nearing the end of this console's cycle. I seriously don't know how Nintendo can manage to surpass Switch. The catalog for it has been amazing and there are still so many exciting titles to come out even though its less compared to the early years.

Spoiler:
Pokémon DLC was interesting. Palia looks great. Excited for all of the Pikmin stuff. Detective Pikachu makes me sad that I never got to snag the first one. New Mario stuff looks good, and honestly, most of the third party stuffed looked great, too.
I'd say that this is the best Direct [for me] in a long time.

It is a game made by Marvelous, so I guess they're making good use of the assets they already have. Though if that's the case, perhaps there's a little more we can learn about what the next SoS game is going to look like, through this? Probably not, but...maybe they're using the same engine to create the games. The characters are cute and the animation smooth so it'd be interesting to see SoS done in this style. It does have a similar misty look to the brief glimpse we got of the next SoS in development.

Marv is really pumping out the stuff! Was this Silent Hope also in that 'Marvelous Direct'? I don't remember it. It's coming out October 3, though...waaaaaaaay too close to the deluge of games in September, particularly September 26th, so I don't think I'll end up getting to it, as it looks like the type of game that if I'm not compelled to get it on release, I'll probably just let it moulder on my wishlist forever, never sure if I really want it or not.

EDIT: Also not sure why everyone has to call all video game presentations 'Directs' since that was Nintendo's thing, but somehow it became 'the name' for everything, even though it was never that great a name, except that Nintendo was cutting through all the middlemen at the time and presenting their games directly to the player. I like that Playstation calls their presentation State of Play. No 'Direct' for them! Wholesome Direct just sounds silly. That presentation should be...I don't know...Cozy Corner or something. Something with more of its own identity. (Cozy Corner just came to me suddenly because of my childhood favourite convenience store, where they always had not only great candy, but also rolls and rolls of stickers, called Kim's Korner. Corner is a weird name for a presentation, too, just...I like it better than 'Wholesome Direct'.)
