Where and when does Van appear to buy items?

I've only got the HMDS, but I expect his schedule isn't changed.
In the morning, he walks slowly to the Inn, reaching it around 9 am stays for a while in the entrance room downstairs before going up to his cardboard box desk. He's open for business between 10 am to 6 pm. Afterwards he spends some more time downstairs. He walks up to Romana's villa in the evening, where he stays about 9 pm to 11pm, after which he walks out of the valley.
And no, the only way to sell things are Van, the shipping boxes (since there's one in every barn), and the canning machine. At least your game counts stuff as shipped if you sell it to Van (even if you change your mind at the last moment before selling). HMDS only counts the shipping boxes and the canning machines.
