"Tune in on Thursday, March 27th, at 7 a.m. PT for a livestreamed Nintendo Direct, featuring around 30 minutes of upcoming games for Nintendo Switch. There will be no updates about Nintendo Switch 2 during this presentation. Information about #NintendoSwitch2 will be shared on April 2nd at 6 a.m. PT in the Nintendo Direct: Nintendo Switch 2 – 4.2.2025 presentation."

Yeah, this one's really surprising to me, especially this close to the Switch 2 Direct. It's only around 30 minutes this time and it is a general Direct so you can expect first party announcements here.

Personally expecting more information on Pokemon Legends ZA and Metroid Prime 4 followed by a surprise announcement of either a new game or a much requested remaster.

Last Nintendo Direct, Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma was formally announced. Could this Direct possibly bring us more news on the next Story of Seasons game? I honestly think it could happen.

Oh boy, I can't wait to get an update on Silksong and for the next Fire Emblem game to be teased! Oh and the Final Fantasy IX remake too!

Bwaha...REALLY not expecting that particular SoS trailer. I wasn't expecting another remake, but I guess I should have been. I'm surprisingly into it? Yeah, I think so. I have that game, actually, and played a little of it, but the, uh...can I call them market mechanics? Anyway I was confused and couldn't get into how to play. I felt overwhelmed and not interested enough to invest the effort to learn. I'm a different gamer now, though...and it's a different game, probably. At least somewhat.

The graphics aren't overly to my taste, but they're not bad, either. Though Animal Parade would have been my first choice for another remake.

And hey, that shadow drop...weird and cool. AND WITCHBROOK, c'mon, a lot of you guys have gotta be happy to see that in official capacity again, no? We even got a release window.

A very interesting Direct! Not a lot for me, but tons of new stuff, which was fun to watch, and I got one big YAY of my very own with No Sleep for Kaname Date. And I KNOW a bunch were looking forward to certain of those announcements, so...surely no one will be whining that this Direct was a big nothing-burger AGAIN.

Ha ha...

Honestly, though, I liked it, it was fun. Full of peculiar interesting stuff, though mostly not for me, it was good to watch.

Shopkeeping games of various types seem to be on the uptick. I noticed that before but this Direct really made it clearer. New trend in cozy?

Rhythm games seemed well represented here, too. (I hate those, lol. I have NO timing. Except bad timing, of course.)

And VIRTUAL GAMECARD. Wow. That may be the biggest deal of all. They're really trying to make physical games obsolete. I don't mind if they do that by making digital games capable of everything physical ones can do. That's awesome, actually.

The 'cozy game' boom is finally seeping fully into the AAA world and becoming more refined, bit by bit. That's what I'm seeing, I think. More non-cozy games are including cozy elements. I like it. I won't be buying more than usual, but more is catching my eye, at least.

I missed it, but am currently getting caught up. I might buy Raidou as I love the Taisho era, I'm still holding off on the Dragon Quest remakes until there's a triple pack for sale, Grand Bazaar is a day one purchase for sure (though I'd prefer it on PS5), Witchbrook is alive - cool beans, and we're finally getting another Tomodachi Life. I don't really care about anything else shown.

The Switch Reddit is « Baaaa *glomp* » about it being the 'worst direct ever' and I'm just over here rolling my eyes. Basically, there was more 'cozy' games than usual, but there was still plenty else. Two rhythm games, JRPGs, a sports game, indies, +more. Seriously, it's the end of the console's lifespan - what were they expecting? The WiiU Zeldas still being stuck on there is a bummer, but honestly, the WORST direct EVER? Give me a break.

I'm defs most excited for the Grand Bazaar remake. I loved the original and played it a ton when I was a freshmen in college. I'm neutral on some of the changes (full VA, for example) and it looks like they scrapped double jumping for gliding (I LOVED bouncing around in game), but I'm excited regardless. I hope there's some new marriage candidates, just because I'd like some and the last two remakes got them. This game is the origin for two fan favorites (Dirk and Amir) and I'm looking forward to reacquainting myself with the cast.

The only appropriate response.

EVERY Direct is always deemed 'the worst Direct ever'. That was a super varied Direct at the VERY END of the console's lifespan...it was pretty fantastic. I'm not interested in most of it but even the stuff I know I wouldn't like was worth watching. The variety was really cool, and the different ways they're sneaking 'cozy' in.

Meh, Reddit is rarely worth paying attention to. The voice of the masses in general is not worth listening to. The discontent will always be the loudest, shrieking at the top of their lungs while the happy ones are just speaking at a normal volume. Just the way of humans.

It was fun. I liked how original a lot of it looked.

Trust me, I'm not going to fall over myself to defend Reddit of all places, but it's probably the best place online now for smaller and quieter fandoms to gather. Especially stuff like canceled TV shows and lesser known indie games. It's also a decent place for crafters and artists to gather and get good feedback as fourms in general are a dying breed. Also-also; tech help when Youtube fails you. Like, for example, the Harvest Moon reddit is pretty chill, meanwhile the Switch Reddit is a bloody warzone filled with man children. I use Reddit and have it catered to my tastes only and it's fine as is. When I venture into the more volatile areas, well, I wish I hadn't. Anyways.

The Pokemon Z-A trailer was interesting. Not sure if I like the concept of night time being a kinda... battle royale, but eh, maybe I'll vibe with it more on release. I still don't think that footage being shown is base Switch, but I'd love to be proven wrong.

WOW there was a lot in that Direct for me. All of my friends have been messaging me asking if I hacked the Direct bc it was so much to my tastes.

I loved AITSF so it's great to see a third game announced! (That reminds me, I have to play the second game still.) New Story of Seasons remake, and of a game I haven't played? Super exciting!! And Rhythm Heaven and Tamagotchi Connection are both coming back??? WOW :o

But nothing beats the main course for me - TOMODACHI LIFE is back!!! The 3DS game was so formative for me, and I've been wanting another one forever. Literally one of my most-wished for games throughout the Switch's entire lifespan and we're finally getting it!

And then also... Raidou remake? I've always wanted to play that so that's sweet. Same with the Dragon Quest remakes, I played a bit of the original Dragon Warrior years ago now and would like to revisit the series properly. Patapon port? Oh man, that's awesome too.

Seriously one of the most memorable Directs for me after the infamous "farming game Direct". Made my day :)
My video game piano arrangements (including Harvest Moon, Story of Seasons, Rune Factory, and Stardew Valley!) :lala:

Well, I hate Reddit. I hate any place that 'votes' on comments.

I have to wonder what these people even thought would be in the Direct, that they're disappointed in it. It was stated right in the Direct announcement that no news on the S2 would be included, so it can't be that. What, did they think there'd be a new Mario game announced in what is probably the last ever Switch 1-dedicated Direct? They showed their precious Metroid. And they showed that we'll now be able to lend/share our digital games, as well as use our digital games freely between two Switch consoles, should we happen to own two (which many of us do). How can it be the 'worst Direct ever'? What criteria is being used to judge it? What would be the BEST Direct ever? Does it have to have 3 new Mario games in it, and a new mainline Pokemon, and a new Persona game, a new Animal Crossing, and a new Zelda?

I never get it when people say 'worst ever'. If it was literally just 30 minutes of test signal, I'd get it.

EDIT: Oh yeah. The new 'digital game card' stuff. I think Nintendo's being really smart. They're answering a major complaint about digital games...that you can't share them, nor can you even use your digital copy of a game you bought on any console but the specific one you bought it on, even if you own two (say a regular Switch and a Lite). Now you WILL be able to share, and you can move your games between two of your own switches, whenever you want.

Maybe someday they'll even make it possible to somehow sell or trade digital games, though I kind of doubt that.

Gamers are penny-pinching pretty hard, these days. The game industry is in hard times and people are turning to indies a lot for unique experiences and lower prices. Being able to squeeze more value out of your games by being able to share digital copies is probably going to do a lot of good, and make them more money at the same time. (I don't think Nintendo is just so sweet...I think they're doing this to make money. As they must. But still a good decision all round, I think.) Now parents won't have to buy multiple copies of the same game for themselves and their (potentially multiple) children.

When all is said and done, there was a lot in there considering they're likely holding back for next week's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct.

We already knew about the Dragon Quest I+II HD-2D Remasters, but nice to see some footage of it. I still need to play DQ III though and it's not high in my priority list.

I haven't played any Somnium Files game yet but I watched a friend play the first two. They're pretty neat. I wonder if they are looking forward to this new one.

The Raidou remastered is a pretty big deal. Atlus also posted a 22 minutes long video about it after the Direct. It's a remaster of Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha Vs the Soulless Army (aaaaand you can imagine why they shortened that title) from the PS2 era. However, they have upgraded it to make the gameplay closer to its sequel (Raidou Kuzunoha Vs King Abbadon) which had taken a lot of feedback from the first game and addressed it so having Soulless Army with the improvements of its sequel is great news. I have the original game, but I haven't played it yet. Looks like I might just want to wait for the remaster then. I kind of wish they just called it a remake at this point considering all the changes and the extra stuff added but the remaster/remake debate goes on.

Shadow Labyrinth remains a curious but interesting take on Pac-Man lore. It looks fun if you're into Metroidvania style games. I'll keep it in consideration but no promises since so many stuff seems to be coming on in June and July.

Patapon. Is. Free. From the PSP. I kept hearing about those games but I never really saw them in action. They look fun. They're not quite rhythm games but they do seem like you still need to have good timing (and memory if you want to remember the word sequences).

We're already discussing about Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar in other threads so I don't feel like I need to repeat myself here beside the fact that at the time of the Direct, I legitimately thought it was a new game since I didn't remember the original at all XD.

Metroid Prime 4 is getting closer. The new abilities is a bit out there for Metroid standards but I suppose it's not the first time they go out of the left field so we'll see. It looks good but I'm also not confident about Retro Studios delivering something new after all this time (their latest new game was basically Tropical Freeze) but as I said, we'll see. I am amused on how people were saying "why is this not at the final thing for this Direct instead of what we got!?" and I'm like "it's literally what they did last Direct. It won't work twice."

Disney Villains Cursed Cafe is... a thing. It's basically Disney trying to Disney-ify someone else's concept. Moving on.

I feel like I heard of Witchbrook before but I believe it's the first time we actually see it in action. It looks cool but not for me.

Eternal Life of Goldman seems to be a fun platformer. I'll keep it in mind. Same for Rift of the Necrodancer.

Gradius Origins is Konami's next Old IP Collection project. I'm not the biggest schmup player but I'll see how I feel about it when it comes out. The fact that they actually added a brand new sequel to Salamander in the pot is impressive though.

Getting more info on Pokemon Legends A-Z after the Pokemon Present we had a while ago is surprisingly, but they followed up on the tease we had at the end of the Pokemon Presents and I am interested in the Night Battle Life they are offering. It also confirms to me that Pokemon Legends games are games that are not direct sequels from eachother but try out non-standard gameplay that the mainline games wouldn't use or haven't done yet. I'm more interested in A-Z is proposing compared to what Arceus delivered. It wasn't a bad game by any means but this one speaks to me more.

NEW. RHYTHM. HEAVEN. GAME. YEAH!

The Virtual Game Card system they're proposing is interesting though I wouldn't mind more details about it. At first glance, it looks like it's better DRM control which only requires you to be online for inserting or ejecting a virtual card and then you don't need the online to verify if you own the game as long as it's in inserted state. That also means that whoever is playing on that Switch can also play the game without online checking if they own it. I know there was some rules about other users and digital games bought by a different account with primary and secondary systems but all of it is a blur to me. That being said, it seems very obvious to me that this is a new system that the big N is hoping to block piracy or "duplicating" (aka even though you own the game, they don't want you to play it on two systems at the same time) since I'm expecting all digital games will eventually be converted into virtual game cards meaning those installed via others mean will be easy to identify. I guess we'll see. The lending feature is neat, but it only works if you are physically present with Family Account members so it doesn't apply to me. This is likely a precaution to avoid abuse. There's already plenty of people who just bought Family accounts with their Internet friends to benefit of the advantages so they likely don't want people to do that to just buy 1 game for 8 people.

SaGa Frontier 2 is Square-Enix's latest "bringing back game from our back catalogue" so no real surprise from me but I appreciate their effort on that front.

I never heard of Monument Valley before but I guess it's a big deal since people have been talking about it.

I know friends who are super into Everybody's Golf so this new one likely got them fired up.

Marvel Cosmic Invasion is the latest beat em up from Dotemu and their track record so far has been good so I'll see what they can do with this one.

Tomodachi Life is a big deal, but it's not really my cup of tea. Still, happy for those who love the series.

Finally, the Nintendo Today app is an interesting thing to end with but from a marketing standpoint, I get it. One, they are about to open the floodgates about the Switch 2 next week so they want you to have the app in advance. Two, the state of social media in this day and age is basically a dumpster fire. I'm not surprised Nintendo would make an app to push their news so they can eventually dismiss social media altogether. Third, they literally make their point by dropping a big news on the app the very next day to make sure people understands that if they want more Nintendo news, they want the app. The app itself is neat. It also has trivia and official art and concept art here and there. Wouldn't say it's a must have, but since they also said they going to drop Switch 2 news on it after the Direct next week at a regular pace, maybe worth it. Only time will tell.

Yeah, overall, surprising Direct considering we have another one next week about the new console.

And in case you don't know, the news they dropped today was:
Spoiler:
The release date of The Legend of Zelda movie which is March 26th 2027.

I can vouch for those!

Basically, imagine the works of M. C. Escher turned into a puzzle game.

It has "physics" that is completely unlike how anything works in real life, but still follows a coherent internal logic that's fun to figure out. All set to some rather creative visuals that really feel like the developers were showing off.

No story to speak of, though, and kinda short if you just binge it. It was originally a mobile phone game (meant to be played in a quick break between activities), and the ports to other systems came later. No microtransactions or ad bombardments, though - it's one of the few mobile phone games that isn't evil.
