Do I need to water trees in winter?

I'm at year 2 fall, I'm worried about having to plant the trees all over again

Trees are dormant during winter, but they keep accumulating sun/water points. Ideally, you don't want to water trees to ensure the plants do not receive an excessive amount of water during winter (e.g., snow adds +2 water points).
