I’ll even set for a piece of paper with a year.
What are you hoping for?

I'm not praying for ANYTHING, because that's just a set-up for disappointment.
It'll be fun if I have no expectations. And I don't. It's too soon for an Animal Crossing announcement. (This was why Wood Hawker's deliberately-fake-leak was suspect from the beginning.) They always take forever to get an AC onto a new system, and 5 years isn't even that long a wait between AC games. THEY like to count their goofy add-ons and spin-offs as entries, but I sure don't.
The releases used to be closer together, but as time goes on, all game development takes longer and longer. The gap between New Leaf and New Horizons was 8 years. I figure it may be about the same this time. Would it be nice for my cynicism to be wrong? Yeah, of course. But no way am I pinning my hopes on AC, I'll just hate the Direct if I do that, when otherwise it could be fun.
I guess I kind of hope to see something spooky. Or what do the kids say? Spoofy? No, that ain't it, lol.
Spoopy? That probably isn't it either. Why would it have poop in? Anyway, the kind of spooky that is cute, not gory or gross.
Or just something with strong autumn vibes, doesn't have to be gothic or spookpfy. I want something that feels seasonal, that either shadow-drops, or drops quite soon after the announcement, like within a month.
I'd like to see at least ONE big name announcement that I at least somewhat care about.
Not that I expect to get either of those, but...they are my vague hopes to get a nice vibe from this Direct. I just want to see upward momentum for the Switch 2.

Yeah, but they never do that, Shan. They never give a game announcement with a date more than a year out. (Even if it ends up delayed later, they have to intend, at that time, to have it out within about a year.) They had even set some resolution a while back not to announce stuff more than 6 months out, but that really didn't last...doubt they were ever all that serious about it.
If they currently have plans to release a new Animal Crossing by or before holiday season 2026, we may see something. If they don't, then we won't. It's a system-seller, so they'd be giving themselves a boost in Switch 2 sales if they DO announce something.
But it's for the best, that they don't, imo, unless the release is close enough. Just look at how frustrated Metroid fans are, being tormented over the next release for YEARS and we still don't know when it's coming, except '2025', which...who knows. I don't want to hear that they're planning AC for 2027, and then in 2027, nothing, and then in 2028 a mention that it'll be out at the end of the year, and then at the end of 2028, another delay into a vague '2029'.
I'd rather they just tell us when the game is actually well into development with reduced risk of significant delay. I don't want to be strung along.
The AC team is also the Splatoon team. There's a Splatoon spin-off coming up (Splatoon Raiders) and I don't know if the AC team is tied up with that. So I honestly have no feel for if Animal Crossing is even being worked on right now, in any significant way.
Honestly, I don't really want to think about Animal Crossing until they've got something meaty for us.
That's me.

Okay, spoopy, then.
Though it'll be good as long as it gives the Switch 2 a good boost. Put some system-sellers on there, even if they're not for me.
~
I can only see Animal Crossing being announced if Nintendo FINALLY accepts just how many systems Animal Crossing can sell, and to people who are often unmoved by names like Metroid, Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Donkey Kong, or even Zelda. But they always seem to overlook the series. They always under-peddle it.
One thing I think is *possible* with AC is that they will come out with a Switch 2 version of New Horizons. Like they did for BotW and TotK...upgraded graphics and performance and added content (not a LOT, but interesting features and new scraps of...lore, I guess. That's what LoZ got. Not sure what AC would do.)

Eaaauuugh, saw a popular leaker did a predictions video and one of their predictions was a 'Fire Emblem Three Houses Deluxe'. Look, I like FE3H a lot, it's a fantastic Fire Emblem game and good game overall, but please lord no, we don't need to keep dwelling on 3H. Fandomwise, there's a joke that goes around every time something new in the Fire Emblem community comes around that goes 'and somehow, we'll still get 5 more years of Three Houses Discourse'. Sounds dumb, but it's true, in a sense. The leads in 3H are controversial, none of them are completely morally 'right', which really enhances the character writing and showing the consequences of one's actions (some more than others depending on the route, but you get it). But because of the 'waifu/husbando' nature of the fandom (because you can marry 95% of the cast, the remaining 5% is basically becoming BFFs with married men - no, I'm not kidding), it makes people take a side with their favorite war criminal, and sometimes it's funny, but most of the time it's just obnoxious. We've already had another FE game since 3H with Engage, but no matter what (it seems), we always devolve into more 3H « Baaaa *glomp* » and moaning. Like, for example, I recall last year the fandom was discussing Priam, Ike's successor from the Radiant Duology that shows up in Awakening with his signature sword and hair color. He was basically made as a nod to the character as Awakening was meant to be the series last hurrah, but ever since the series ramped up in popularity, his existence gets brought up often, because it's been believed (not confirmed) that Ike is gay or asexual due to his behaviors and lack of romantic coded supports outside of his tactician; Soren. And so, the debate goes; is Priam Ike's descendant at all? People will debate on if he's Ike's or Ike's sister's descendant, or if he's just a bum, and so on -BUT THEN IT TURNS INTO THREE HOUSES DISCORUSE, AGAIN, FOR NO REASON. MAKE IT STOOOPPPP.
*sigh* I guess what I'm saying is that we don't need more 3H, and I certainly don't want a 'deluxe' version UNLESS there's more routes (especially if they make all the scrapped characters who have battle animations + lines be playable) and an actual reason to play again. If it's just the game + DLC ...no, I already have that. If anything should get a 'deluxe' edition from the FE series, it should be a collection of the 3DS games (especially with Fates having it's DLC only route you can't access any more unless you have a very expensive SE cartridge or yarr harr, if you catch my drift). The GBA titles are on the Online app (minus one that never got officially translated) and Path of Radiance is on it's way (and Hopefully Radiant Dawn down the line too - Wii games seem like a no brainer), but the 3DS titles (and and DS duology) are physical or yarr harr only. They need a re-release. Shadows of Valentia is my favorite in the series and I would adore an HD remaster so I don't have to break out my 3DS every time I want to play it.

My other hope is a fire emblem game. It’s been too long since Engaged came out.

I guess that wasn't a BAD Direct, but I can't say it really had anything for me, either.
I was most excited about there being a demo for Donkey Kong, lol. I think ALL Nintendo games should have demos! Honestly, they can well afford to at least put demos for all their expensive, almost-never-even-on-modest-sales games.
I have it downloading. Maybe I'll even play it today. Now give me a demo for Mario Odyssey and Luigi's Mansion. No. EVERY NINTENDO GAME. I'm serious. Make with the demos, Nintendo!
I didn't see a single game that immediately made me go "I want it." There is nothing on there I'll definitely buy. There are a couple I MIGHT buy. I was very happy to see three currently PC-only games, but I already own 2 of them on Deck, so not really a big deal, either.
One of them I don't own, and I really did like the first game on Switch, and I love the developer. But...I don't know if I want the sequel. My baby sis will probably really like it, though, she played the first game quite a lot.
Oh, and that...how can I say, no-spoiler? Uh. Well, a spin-off to a famous series that is a little bit DQB and a little bit Animal Crossing, maybe. Anyway, it was the 'interesting' game that I'll watch, but I don't know if I want. It doesn't look like it'd keep me interested for very long.
I slept through bits of the sizzle reel, so not sure if they showed anything good in there, but I didn't notice anything.
Lotsa Mario, hopefully that makes some happy. Now I can't remember if a NEW Mario game was shown or not, lol. I think none was? Or did I dozy my way through that, too?
Anyway, not terrible, but not really for me, either.
EDIT: Oh yeah. If anyone wants to see the whole Direct, you can now watch it directly on the Nintendo Direct archive, and if you click the current one, they have the breakdown under the main video, of headlines, and clips of each game individually if you don't want to watch the whole thing.
HERE.

Yeah, that really stood out to me. Somehow it's very off-putting, to have paid DLC announced for a game that hasn't even RELEASED yet. And they announced you can pre-order the...was it the Pokemon DLC? That they gave NO details for? And yet you can PREORDER IT TODAY?
I dunno. Feels quite ick. Makes Nintendo look sleazy, imo. Of course, all big-business is sleazy here and there, but...I don't like to see extra bits of yuck from them popping up, even so.
I also immediately thought it looked like Natsume, btw. It's because it's not cubes, but flattened blocks, imo.
