Once you've done the Your GotY 2025 thread, it's time to largely forget about 2025, because it's 2026. Time to move on to new digital horizons! Is anything fantastic looming? (Do fantastic things loom? Or is it only bad things that do that?)
What's your current backlog like? Do you have any goals in your gaming in 2026? Want to support more game streamers? Want to play more social games? Get better at FPS...es? Eliminate your backlog, only buy on sale...there's lots of things you might want to do. Or not do.
How are your preferences evolving?
You don't have to answer any of those questions, and you don't have to keep track of your backlog, if you don't want to. As long as you want to chat about the games you're playing or that others here are playing, you can take part in this thread.

My backlog is a large assortment of tons of genres. I bought the majority of them on sale after either sitting on them for those sales or getting them via recommendations. I actually organized my entire backlog a month-ish ago because I'm aiming to finish it this year. I'm not anxious looking at the list or anything, but so many of these games have just been there for so long that it almost feels disrespectful in some strange way. Like I want to play all of these, they're not holding me hostage, I just lack the time or personal motivation. But, I spent the last two years using most of my free time on my other hobbies; writing and art, and while I'm still doing them (and I was still playing games those years too, just not as many), It's time to shift my focus and get these games done and dusted. So I made a convenient list as I went through all my platforms.
Now, will I play all of these to completion? Probably not. I'll give them all a fair chance, because they all appeal to me in some way shape or form, but I'm beyond forcing myself to finish games I'm not enjoying. Sometimes just having the 'I tried it and didn't like it' badge is enough. And in the event the game has more than one ending or extra side content; I'm not going to 100% games if I don't want to either. I dictate my own experience and if I'm satisfied with what I got, then that's that.
So, as for what I'm tackling first; I'm currently chipping away at Ghost of Yotei. I'd say I'm around 60% through it as there's very little map left to explore, buuut those maps are jam packed with side quests that I do actually want to do (for lore, upgrades, ect) because they're worth it. However, once I finish Ghost of Yotei, I feel it'll be time to tackle some of my PC visual novel stash. I've noticed in my writing a lot recently is that I'm using the same words, sayings, and general vibes, among other things. This is fine in the sense that I'm not a professional and this is just fanfic, but it still bothers me personally because I fear becoming stale or too repetitious. The biggest advice all writers give to one another is to READ more, to expand your horizons and get new perspectives, and I agree. I've definitely gotten better over the years from practice AND just consuming other literature. While I do have a hefty backlog of book as well, one step at a time here; let's hit the visual novels first.
It's funny, I remember having an English teacher in college who snubbed my love of visual novels and claimed they weren't 'real literature' (despite the fact that I explained to her that they're literally books with visuals added). That was back in the 2010s when they were still just starting to get localized outside of Japan, and now they're everywhere on every modern gaming platform. I just think it's funny she snubbed reading, of all things, in the 2010s, because I consumed it differently than her in that moment. I wonder how she's doing these days and if her opinion has changed at all. Like, logically, having read the longest visual novel of all time; Umineko When They Cry, which takes a MINIMUM of 75 hours to complete (100 hours if you're not rushing) at just over 1,000,000 words, that puts me at the same level as having read the Lord of the Rings trilogy TWICE - but it doesn't count because it's a 'vIdEo GaMe'.
Heaven forbid people partake in hobbies differently. Imagine gatekeeping READING of all things. And now the new generation has a learning epidemic. *shrugs aggressively*

Let see... I played a bunch in the last few months and I did finish some stuff but started new things. Here's how things stand right now.
- Pokemon Legends Z-A. I beaten the main game but I started the Mega Dimension DLC. Things are going smoothly so I should be able to wrap it all up soon. I really had a good time with it so far.
- I have to finish my Persona 3 Reload's New Game Plus playthrough but that had taken a pause when I got too busy with not enough time.
- I had to put aside because otherwise I would have not been able to play other games this year, but it's time to go back to Xenoblade Chronicles X once I wrap up Pokemon Legends Z-A. I'll finish it this time, damnit.
- Playing Cook, Serve Delicious! 3?! twice a month so with some luck I'll be able to get it all done before the year is done.
- I started Cuisineer last year and I'm having fun with it but I only play it once a month so I have no idea how long it will take me to finish it.
- My replays of the Mega Man Battle Network games continue. I'm now on Mega Man Battle Network 3. I do need to play both versions though so not sure how much time that will take me. Funny enough, Battle Network 3 weren't initially designed as a dual version release. The original is actually Mega Man Battle Network 3 White which was just Rockman.EXE 3 in Japan. However, Capcom eventually released an updated version called Rockman.EXE 3 Black which became Mega Man Battle Network 3 Blue. However, because White didn't come out outside of Japan yet, they just decided to release both as a dual version despite Blue objectively being the better version. Anyway, I digress.
- I'm still working on Harvestella. I'm now in Winter Frost so I'll be pushing through Spoiler:
- Still working on Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma. Because I'm limiting myself on how much I can play it, I'm still not too far. I just arrived in Autumn Village.
- Started my 3rd year in Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town. 3 years will be it for me just to reflect how the end of YEar 3 was the end in Harvest Moon: Back to Nature. At this point I'm just cleaning up a bunch of harder to get stuff.
- Stardew Valley is still a thing. Can you believe that there's more content on the way? This will never end.
- For transit time between home and the office, I will start up Story of Seasons for the 3DS also known as the first game following the rebrand. I had it for a while but never took the time to try it. Now that I wrapped up on Pilotwings Resort, it's next on the 3DS docket.

Happy 2026 everyone! Wow, it's hard to believe it is already a new year. This year my primary gaming goal is going to be trying to finish games that I like and have already started, before moving on to starting new ones. I had trouble with starting and not finishing many this past year. Then I hope to work on some games I have not even touched in the backlog yet. So for organization (and memory sake):
Started games:
Untouched games:
Games I will probably inevitably revisit:
Whew! I am a little intimidated now that I have gone and made a list. I guess we see how it will go with everything else going on. Ultimately, game time is for fun, so if it is not fun, I can do something better with my time, or pick a different game. Currently chipping away at Mario and Luigi: Brothership as my main game for the time being.
Edit: Already blew the plan a bit when I saw the library had Grand Bazaar in stock and I checked it out, lol!

I've put this off for days now, but I finished Grand Bazaar. I got my ultimate axe, too, and maxed out Honey. I'm only one level away from maxing out Ivy. I've discovered I don't want to bother making it so that I get all Royal Honey every time I harvest anyway, though. It just ties the blue windmill up for way too long, you'd only be using it for royal honey all the time. Well, half the time. And I do keep the green wonder in there to max out the slots, so I guess it'd still be workable. Though I could just sell the honeycombs, they're still worth a good chunk. Hmm.
I also realized that after you finish the story, you don't really need to sell at the bazaar any more, if you don't want to. What I mean is, it's BETTER to sell there because you get huge bonuses from your decor and a bit from cheer time, but let's just say that, putting that aside, end game goals don't need you to make your money specifically at the bazaar, even though the goal still goes through the bazaar.
Funny way to put it, I know. I'm mostly saying that because this will make it easier to clear up inventory space by getting rid of small stacks of lower level stuff that I was hoarding, without cluttering up the limited bazaar stall space. But anyway, I think I may skip bazaars once in a while, now. There's not much left to unlock except when I hit certain levels, and I'd rather make a million every two weeks than only have enough to make 500,000G every week. Plus I'd like to have big stacks to sell, rather than just a few of many different things. Jewellery takes so long to make, you can't get stacks of it in only a week. (Amazing that children can show up and buy 5 10,000G brooches all at once, lol. That's a lot of pocket money they've got!)
My cow has a brand, now. Gotta figure out which animal I should get a brand for next. I suppose a brown alpaca or a suffolk sheep has the products worth the most, though I'd need to check to see. I also have to think carefully about which crops to promote first, but honestly, I think just doing the priciest ones is the smartest. Watermelon, for example. You can sell it for a bundle even without a brand. I wonder if it has a special variety? I should try the rare crop watering buff on it next time. I'm not far off of Summer Year 2, now. (I managed to finish the story on the last bazaar of Year 1.)
I could also just move on to a new game. Or something other than gaming. Either would be more productive than continuing with this game forever.

Congrats, Kiki! I stopped playing Grand Bazaar once I finished the story and got married. If you're satisfied and want to move on, I'd say just do it. The end game grind is really only there for people who want something to do while waiting for their child to age, imo. If that's not your cup of tea, then turf it!

Gahhhh, I can't give in! They just added Fire Emblem Path of Radiance to NSO, the ONE game I've been waiting for them to add, but I can't play it yet, no-no! I NEED at least finish Ghost of Yotei first! Still though... the temptation...!
I was exhausted yesterday and didn't have it in me to finish art. I have just one more drawing to do for the Bokumono 30th anniversary art collab and I'm finally free of it lol. 'Free' as in I don't need to keep working towards a full loop of drawing one character from every game + the added categories the organizer made. I'll still do a few here or there afterwards, but definitely not on the same level I have been.
But I did play some FFXIV and Genshin. FFXIV was just my weekly raid completion to keep my gear up to date, but I saw that my last section of Nod Krai was at 70% exploration rate and just decided to finish that up. It was mostly just hunting down hard to find treasure chests, but there was one world quest I'd missed + I farmed some wishes from the battle pass for the upcoming patch. I want Zibai, I WILL have her. I've got 50 wishes locked and loaded and we'll be getting even more with the Chinese New Year celebration. I've been so dendro pilled with my teams for so long that I'm looking forward to playing with Geo again. Time to pull Zhongli out of retirement!

I don't have every storage expansion or soil expansion, yet. I believe I have the storage expansion that allows for, uhhhh...I think 264 slots. (11 pages.) I KNOW there's one more, and it's possible that there are 2, though if there are, that final one is at a RIDICULOUS level that would take many many game years to reach. But I definitely want the final soil upgrade, which I'm a handful of levels away from unlocking.
I also hate that I have so little branded, yet. Just a cow and...do I even have ONE crop branded? I think I have two at 7 stars but not to brand, yet, and two at just six stars. I think. Anyway, there's a TON left to do, and it just doesn't feel done. I feel like I should be able to make a million in a single morning session at the bazaar, if I got things going really well. I'd like to have enough brands to be able to make all my money on just animal products, crops, and maybe some ores/gems and cooking. All things that don't need the windmills.
And I'd like to have the orichalcum rod. No, the ultimate one. And maybe the orichalcum watering can. Not sure there's any incentive to upgrade the sickle or hoe beyond gold, since they really don't need any more range.
I also want all the top-grade tents and counters, haha...
So there's a bunch more I actually want. Not sure if the horseback foraging really has a point, though! The horse is a pain to ride. They didn't program that very well. I understand the stamina is what makes the minigame a challenge, but it makes the horse clunky to actually ride for transportation.
I'm not sure what I'd want to go on to, after this. Honestly, I should write, or quill, or colour, more than game. But I guess Skyward Sword would like some attention, as would Daybreak II and Pikmin 4.
I should lend my virtual card of Grand Bazaar to Baby T, make her play it. Then it'd take it away from ME for two weeks AND get her into it, lol. Win-win? But if I do, I will take notes on what I was doing so that I can pick it back up more easily, later.

My backlog is really overwhelming right now, I hoped that the New Year energy would give me some motivation to sort it out but apparently not lol. I've sort of backed myself into a corner by starting a bunch of games and playing them simultaneously, so I plan to try and finish/drop them all one-by-one and then start being more organised about what I play. This year I also hope to go back to the one in one out system (at least) with my backlog to stop me from buying more games. Because what am I ACTUALLY buying when I pick up another RPG that I won't get to for a year in a Steam sale? It's like I get a little dopamine rush from adding something to my library and that isn't good at all.
Anyway, I'm currently playing:
So, yeah, overwhelming. I'll probably take another extended break from Sandrock whenever I burn out on it and go back to finish up Rogue Trader.
Anyway, I'm currently playing:

I mentioned it, but...I love my backlog right now. I don't even WANT to clear it up. It's like a treasure chest. I love looking at my sparkly list of games, especially the ones I haven't even started, or ones I did briefly start but quit (usually due to some other game coming up at that time, or for life reasons, not anything to do with the game that got set aside). I'm feeling no pressure at all, any more, to finish them. I like having them there, knowing I can go have a new experience any time, many of them, enough to last for ages. Perhaps especially since it is so rare for me to end up with any stinkers, the past few years. I don't buy iffy games much any more. I only had ONE bad purchase in 2025. (Hello Kitty: Adventure Island. What a load of boring twaddle THAT was, for me. I don't even find them cute! *sigh* Really a stupid purchase, on my part. It was on sale, but still not remotely worth it. The only way it would have been worth it is if I were PAID for every hour I played, because otherwise it was all time and money 100% wasted.)
Funny change. But this past year has been all about change, for me. Interesting times.
I just found out that if you want to 100% complete SoS: Grand Bazaar, you would need to make
I'm lending the game to my baby sis tomorrow, though. Haven't played it since I decided I was definitely going to lend it to her next time I see her, but I did write a whole page on what I was doing when I last played, so that I can pick up again smoothly. I have my trends and am working on making perfumes, for the most part. Wildflowers aren't really a worthwhile trend since they are so cheap, but there ya go. I don't remember what my other two trends are but I can check my page, cuz I wrote it down! I was also training my horse. I think training it must make them handle better and have more stamina, because at only level 4, my horse can't win the Silver level derby. They really can't. Maybe if I was PERFECT at handling the horse, it'd possible? But between managing stamina, aiming for carrots, and jumping hurdles at the right time without losing that stamina or missing the carrot (often the carrot is placed so that it would be impossible to get both the carrot AND the hurdle), I can't get anywhere near the 6000 points I'd need. I think I once hit 4500, out of about a dozen attempts.
Anyway, not playing that right now. Playing a bit of DQB2 and feeling sick, lol. I either have a 'stomach flu' (there's no such thing as a stomach FLU...flus are respiratory in nature...but people just get it right away if you say you have a stomach flu, for some reason.) or I'm having some kind of IBS flare. Baby sis insists it is probably GERD. Well, I happen to have a doc appt tomorrow, along with many other appointments, so...at least I can inquire about it right away. My fatigue is high. No, it's that my stamina is unusually low, more than that the fatigue itself is particularly high. Small distinction, but...I know what I mean.
I'm actually not all that into DQB2, though. Not this time. I should probably do something else entirely.
And I should go for a walk. Extra shift this evening but lots of time before that.

Moving, moving, moving!
The move is in full force and video game time is at an all time low for now. I packed up my Switch 2 and my husband's Steam Deck all safe and snug and put them with everything else as the hubbo in question has been making trips between locations. He's already got his WFM set up at the new house, so he's been breaking it in while I'm still at the old location for another week or so. I WOULD be there now, but our water heater isn't working and Bluie needs her hot showers. It's getting repaired within the next few days, so I've continued packing what's left. Yesterday it was all our clothes and now there's really only a handful of knick-knacks, a bed, and hygiene supplies... and my PS5 lol. I didn't let my husband take it yet because I'm committed to a Genshin weekly that's going to bring my Baizhu to level 100 and the FFXIV weekly raid grind. The former only takes maybe 5 min a day while the latter can take hours depending on the luck of the draw (teammates, loot rolls, queue fill rate). I did my raids yesterday and they definitely took longer than usual thanks to both healers in the third fight (out of four) were being complete space cadets.
FFXIV rant:
New Genshin update legit just dropped a few hours ago, but IDK when I'll be partaking. If I'm still stuck here because of the water heater, then I can see myself playing it while waiting, but if it does get fixed, then the PS5 is off to the new house and me with it. We'll get it hooked up so I can still do my dailies/weeklies, but I don't anticipate a vegetate day where I'll play games all day when I'm surrounded by boxes that need to be unpacked. I did play some Ghost of Yoeti last night for an hour or so just to wind down. ...One thing I will not miss from this house is the rest of the residents feeling the NEED to comment on everything as they pass by the living room. My headset is packed too and the PS5 is out of my room and hooked up in the living room (which nobody uses, btw, ever, it's just a big TV room that no one uses) which is next to the kitchen. Eeeeeeveryone who goes into the kitchen just HAS to stop and gawk and make little quips, usually 'playfully' making fun of whatever is on screen. I used to be in the living room until the set up in our room worked better, and wow, I do not miss the 'what're you doing' 'why are they talking like that' 'who wrote this' 'this looks dumb' -and so on. This is temporary, thank goodness, but you can't even watch movies with the family without a peanut gallery. I love them and I will miss them somewhat, but I also wont. Finally being in our own house with complete privacy is going to be so nice.

Are you being careful of people like me, especially since I am right here, Bluie? No need!
I would NEVER try to get in on endgame stuff. I'm useless. I don't understand how things work, and even if I DID understand how they work, the cold hard truth is that I haven't the reaction speed to adapt to changing situations in boss battles. I can't notice multiple things at once, and I react slowly even to one. I'm the derpiest derp that ever derped. Whatever a derp actually IS, I feel that it suits me. (I think it was originally designed as an adjective to describe the behaviour of ridiculous dogs like golden retrievers, but that's just an impression I have, not something I have facts to back up.)
It's because I know how hopeless I am that I never try to join multiplayer in any capacity, even the low level story stuff. I don't belong on a team, I'd only drag people down, so once I hit the stuff where you HAVE to use multiplayer to get through, I quit.
Anyway, yeah. If you're in endgame side content (meaning it isn't required to progress the story) then you should know what you're doing. I'm surprised there is such a thing as 'learning teams', though...never heard of that. Good idea. And no excuse not to figure things out before getting serious, if that's the case! That'd take a lot of pressure off.

Just being careful in general lol. Legit had people in-game call me toxic for pointing out someone kept killing the party while marked to be followed. People are so soft these days that expecting the bare minimum is seen as 'toxic'. Wild.
And yeah, Party Finder exists to help people make parties for literally anything - and I mean -anything-. So, imo, if you do not understand a mechanic in an endgame raid but want to tank/heal it, express that you need help and people will come to help. FFXIV has a very helpful community that comes together at the drop of a hat when people genuinely want to try. Or, you could watch a guide on YT, there are several people who make them within hours of new content dropping for those who don't want to go in blind. The first two weeks is fine to be making mistakes because it's a mass learning period, but week three and beyond, if I don't see a 'one or more members have yet to complete this duty' message when I queue in, then I kind of expect that everyone is there to do their weeklies, like me, and that they have the majority if not the entire fight down.
FFXIV draws in a lot of casual players, which is fine, they're FINE. I will not tell people how to play their game they're paying for, but I pay for it too and if you want to stay up to date with gear, then you have to put in the effort. If you're just there for the story, then you can get the minimum requirement by running the most recent dungeon or shelling out the cash for crafted sets (or making it, if you've got the stats and mats). Yoshi P doesn't have a gun to people's head who are just there for the MSQ and idling in Limsa Lominsa showing off their glams. But if you DO want to raid/do other side content that requires playing with other people who go beyond the MSQ difficulty, then you have to commit by getting your gear via earnable special currencies. You can, of course, just buy your way in via crafted sets too, but it's expensive and you will be taking more damage/have less margin for error if you ate a 'I got hit by an aoe' debuff.
So it's accessible for everyone, which again, is f i n e, but I'm sick to death of players who treat those who put in the effort as their free meal card and then pitch a fit when called out about it. I don't like my valuable gaming time to be wasted by people who play a multiplayer game and expect to be catered to.

I just can't feel comfortable, knowing how bad I am. I can't inflict myself on strangers in multiplayer. (And I'm not willing to spend hundreds or more likely thousands of hours...because I'm starting off with skills that are THAT bad... 'getting good' enough to actually be an asset. If I have that kind of time, I have a near-infinite number of things I would be better to spend that time and effort working on. Learning LIFE skills. Languages, art, etc. Not the mechanics that will only make me better at a single game.)

So, the 3.0 update for ACNH is out 'early'. Except it's not. It was never going to release on the 15th for us...it was always going to release on the 14th for the majority of the world. For DLC or an update for an already-released game, they release at midnight (the first second of the 15th) in the earliest timezone in the world, WORLDWIDE. Which means that as soon as the clock ticked one second past midnight on the 14th in, uh...technically I guess it's Kiribati. But more practically, we'll say it's New Zealand.
When New Zealand got it, we ALL got it. And New Zealand is a day ahead of most of us. So it didn't release early. It released exactly on time. When it was supposed to.
Anyway, it's as underwhelming as I thought. It's just a hotel version of Happy Home Paradise. I believe more items are going to unlock, since this isn't very many and I think the trailer showed more, so more probably unlock as you progress. But really, that's all there is to this, for me. Some more items. And I'm not all that big into decorating, so...meh. And I'm LONG sick of decorating houses for Happy Home Paradisers. Not any more into decorating rooms for hotel guests, thanks. I don't enjoy interior decorating. Not in AC!
I did get one really nice item, though, some kind of planter pot with a really odd low-lying flower arrangement. I haven't received it yet. Anyway, I tried it, and am suitably (?) unimpressed. This is just more of the same.
Though it's great that they've added bulk crafting and the ability to store trees/shrubs/flowers. I love that. But too little, too late. I'm already done with this game, so what good do those new features do me NOW?

I lent SoS: GrB to baby sis, and I miss it already, lol. I thought lending it out miiiiiight make me want to play it, but I didn't realize it'd make me want it this badly, this quickly. Ridiculous. But I keep thinking of all the plans I had. I even wrote them all down, so as not to forget when I get the game back. My pineapples were about to come ripe, so I could soon have made some tea perfume, and THEN I could have made some mixed perfume, and that probably would make a killing since it is on trend. Mind you, you need a lot of time to make a big bundle of mixed perfume. Especially since you need a load of black tea tins to start with, so you've got to have the tea and the time to turn it into tins, first. Actually...do you have to have AUTUMN tea leaves to make black tea tins? i can't remember. If so, I need even more time, because I'm in early summer and have no autumn tea leaves left, so I'd have to change my spring and summer leaves in for autumn at the yellow windmill, which takes a very long time. So it's a very lengthy process, getting not just tea perfume but the mixed. I might be better off concentrating on 'refreshing juices', but that's tough, too, since you can't get huge hauls of fruit. Even fertilized to the max, a tree will only ever drop 12 fruit about, what, once a week? So a tree might manage to give you about 50 fruit in an entire season, if you're fertilizing it every day for the quantity boost.
Good, but even trending, juice isn't exactly the biggest earner out there. I like how trends encourage you to try making money in different ways, but without a lot of warning, it's hard to get a lot of stuff ready for trends. Maybe if you had more storage and could just hoard everything forever, until a trend comes up, but even with only two more pages possible, I fill up my inventory pretty fast and need to unload at the bazaar just to free up space.

*Emerges from her mountain of boxes*
Moving is going along. We're in the house now, wading through all our totes and boxes as we can. I've taken the next two weeks off work to just focus on this whole kerfuffle that is getting the house in working order and looking nice. I'm defs going to NEED these two weeks, lol. So far, I've unearthed most of the kitchen appliances and placed them, and today the hubs and I are going to several stores to get things we need (curtains, food, towel hangers, and so on).
Hubbo had set up my PS5 in a temporary space so I can still do my weeklies in FFXIV/Genshin. I actually played through Genshin's newest update the first day in the house just because spoilers were EVERYWHERE and I didn't want to get spoiled. Honestly, what is it with people and NEEDING to have spoilers in people's faces mere hours or days from content dropping? Not everyone is glued to their freaking game and no-life it. Some of us have to WORK.
Anyways, other than that - Umamusume! I got some more A Ranks, yippie! While I didn't really like the Unity Cup scenario when it first released, I'm warming up to it. I now have Taiki Shuttle, Sakura Bakushin O, Symboli Rudolf, and Oguri Cap at A Rank all through the Unity Cup, so I'm a little more inclined towards it now. I might actually join a serious PVP club if I can get a whole team of 'A's, but that's probably going to take a while.
