I am sorry Cher. I do not feel I am better than the 'fishes' just because I am registered I assure you. I just become mad at the ones who spam. Yet again I am sorry. :(

I apoligize. I know that this is a game help board. I just don't want to see this place destroyed. I guess I can do nothing and should do nothing. I'm sorry to waste your time.

Just to clarify - I don't feel I'm being an elitist. I don't have a problem with fishies - hey I was a fishy once. It wouldn't surprise me if my first post had something to do with a release date and it wouldn't even surprise me if there were 3 other release date posts on the same page (heck one of them was probably a sticky topic). I stand by what I said before in a different thread....
fawkes66 wrote:I think they should be allowed to post without registering. If they decide they want to stick around, then a lot of them do end up registering. It's Cher's board and I agree with her decision not to make them register.

If you want a cleaner board then ask that the mods clean-up/delete the spam. I agree that it's really annoying when you have to wade through a bunch of garbage posts whose only purpose of existance is to raise someone's post count. But banning fishies won't cure that, because fishies aren't the only ones that spam or get off topic. There are plenty of registered users that have spamming down to an art.
Shylight - I hope nothing I said earlier in this thread made you feel uncomfortable because when I complained about spammers it wasn't directed at fishies - fishies don't have seeds and veggies under their names. But if it seemed that way to you or made you feel uncomfortable, then I apologize.

FullMetal: What indications have their been at all about this forum being destroyed? There haven't been any mass floodings, or constant spammings... all in all I'd say this forum runs remarkably well.

The thing to remember is everyone is new at some point. Even if this isn't your first forum... how many of you can honestly say you've followed every forum rule for every forum you've been to? We all make mistakes and we all ask stupid questions on occation. Instead of complaining about it or insulting people you should help them see what they've done wrong. 90% of the time you do this and you won't have that problem again from them in the future.

Newbies aren't some sort of horrible evil alien invading army... they are people just like you and me. If you want to know what destroys forums, it's elitism. It causes people to drive away all the new members and then the forum slowly stagnates. And I know none of you want that.

Yeah, if there were no new people...then the old would eventually leave and there would be no one left. So, were actually gaining new members so we won't be lonely. :)

GameFAQs. Seriously, they might, though they may not mean to, you know, bring in « n3w farm3rs ». I've seen a lot of topics there that ask about this site, or for help and they are referred to this site. So... Yeah.

No, not everyone is a n.0.0.b. when they start out.

There's is an ENORMOUS difference between n.0.0.b and newb.

A newb is a newbie, a new member to the message board or chat room. They usually just need a little push to get involved and feel welcome.

A n.0.0.b. is usually also a newb, but they are someone who does not use any sort of ettiquette or manners on the internet, whether they're in chat rooms or on message boards.
They don't bother to acquaint themselves with rules or read FAQs posted to let people know what's what. And a lot of times, they'll ignore rules or requests to stop acting rudely.
They often times act like jerks or just idiots right from the start. That's borderline trolling, too.

I have been a newb many, many times because of all the different forums I've joined.
But I have NEVER been a n.0.0.b. since I use the same good manners online that I use in real life. And I always familiarize myself with a message board before I join.

But not everyone realizes this, especially when they're just starting out on forums. Fishies come here and get so excited because here is a forum where there is still a lot of activity with the HM games they don't stop to look for the rules. They can ask a question and get it answered. YIPPEE!!!Then all of a sudden they start reading these negative posts and it makes them feel bad. I've been there and done that.

I really don't care how many times the question "when will my baby start to crawl?" gets asked. If you can take the time to respond by saying use the search feature or this question has been asked and answered a million times, then you can certainly take the time to actually answer the question. As users get more familiar with the board and actually realize there is a search feature they will start to use it. But being snotty and saying "OMG I'm so sick of this question" is just as noobish in my opionion as someone asking the question and then triple posting underneath of it with "can someone answer me now" or "is anyone there".
