MFoMT OR FoMT?

I know there were a lot of questions about this, and I still don't know what the answer is.
To get the Newspaper, the DVD Player, and MT characters to come, do you need MFoMT or FoMT or either?

As the game was in development it was said that you could connect the boy version of FoMT to earn a Dvd player and dvds, but that apparently has been added into SS without the FoMT For Boy connection requirement. You can buy the items from Ban when he is in town. The Dvd player sits on top of your tv inside of your house and you can select which dvd to watch. The dvds are from shows that appeared in FoMT (farmhouse shows and town cottage shows).
And:
You can plug in your copy of FoMT (Boy or Girl) into the DS to unlock new events and items in the DS version of the game. As you play through both games you will receive a Mineral Town newspaper in your SS mailbox.
So you can plug in both games

Sweet! So you don't need either game to buy the dvds and the dvd player???
I have FOMT and I can still use that to get events right???

Yeah Arron Changes! That was my favorite on FOMT.

Really? I liked that show too. ^_^ That show was the first time I heard someone swear in an E rated game (I think Arron said damn once). XD
