I reached level 10 of the mine (the one the opens up after some guy comes in and initiates a cut scene), but I cannot seem to go further. There is a grey chick that seems to irritate my farmer though, so I took out the axe and ... killed it ... nothing happened. Is it supposed to be this way or will my friendship/love points fall as I have killed some animal? Any help will be appreciated! Thanks ....

It's okay to kill the animals in the mine, you won't lose friendship/love points.

The mines are as so:

1st mine: 10 floors (can fall 1 floor),
2nd=255 (can fall around 10 floors),
3rd=999 (fall around 100 floors)
and 4th=65535 (around 500 floors)

If you don't know what I mean by falling, I mean the holes that you can walk over when you walk on the floor, they're useful, not bad.

After you've reached the bottom of the floor you've opened, enter the mine when Kaain isn't present and the next floor will open.

Yes, I know what you meant by falling. I managed to reach the 10th level of the first mine with no problem at all becuase I did not even try digging/hitting the rocks, just running around and hopefully I land on a square and fall 1 floor. I managed to do this for 8 of the 10 levels of the first mine. Then some sprite (one with the funny eyes) appeared. It seems the opening of the second mine happened only when I returned to the digging area when no one was in there at night (same thing hat opened the first mine).

I have a solution..you cannot go farther because that is the last level of that mine...
to get the next mine try gonig into the main mine after everyone leaves..that should work

You can enter the mine when Furen is there, but Kaain can't be present when you enter the mine if you want the scene to occur.

When the sprite appears, he's telling you you're at the bottom (other places he's telling you you're at certain 1/4 and 1/2 way points).

He just kinda congratulates you mostly. There's also something you can dig up on the levels the sprite speaks to you on, but Fawkes knows more about that.

It seems every 50 levels you can dig up a lithograph. I've collect well over 40 of them and so far nothing special has happened. They don't sell for much though.
