I have a pool, but I haven't met the mermaid. How to unlock the event?

befriend Guriru, after you befriend him, the gray trapdoor kinda thing in his house will be open to you.

He likes eggs, he likes the colored grasses even better (don't think he likes the poison kind).

Also, there is no cutscene for this so just keep checking the trap door and one day it will be unlocked. I made the mistake of waiting for a special scene before I could meet the mermaid only there isn't one.
