On New Year's Day there is the festival at the beach from 6pm to midnight. But my wife also appears to have made a special dinner for New Years and there is a kid sitting on the floor too. Does it matter which event you go to? I have no idea why we suddenly have a kid, when I go on to the next day the kid is gone. Weird!
On a side note, I noticed another kind of cool glitchy thing when you have Gotz working for you over New Year's (Eve & Day). When he appears at the festival he is still sawing wood. Very funny looking!
The kid is probably just programed into the game so that if your married during certain events, the game just thinks that you already have a kid. Haha! That's funny about Gotz! I guess he's a really hard worker!
