I never understood it either. I think its mostly just to make the inside of your house look a little better.
WHen I had first played through it like..whenver it first came out (98?), there were rumors floating around that if you left your chicken on the roof of your house that it never got sick (I think that was it..whatever it was never worked for me though.)

well, it's currently that if you leave them on the roof, you can keep track of them better. not that they'll never get sick, just that the roof acts the same as the rest of the farm land, they can get food there. i think.FallenAngel wrote:I never understood it either. The stairs are there to take up space in your house, really, but they also make a nice area for you chickens (as stated).
They will be able to get sick or unhappy if it rains when they're on your roof but while its sunny the chickens can feed and lay eggs and be happy about it.
Careful though, if you go up your stairs first thing in the morning and someone is outside the'll leave by the time you get back outside through the door.
