And now, a brief history of Ownage.<br><br>When you are the sole possessor something, like a bike, or money, it is yours, and no one elses. You own it. You are the master, and therefore, are greater than it.<br><br>Then, sometime in the 1960's ARPA created the first incarnation of what we now know as the internet.<br><br>Some time in 1994, the internet became functional for people other than techies (what with their CompuServe BBS's and 4k dial up connections).<br><br>Now on to 1998. A game called "Half Life" was released, and soon several modifications followed. To this day, Counter Strike is the most played online game worldwide. Of course, CS sucks hard. Team Fortress Classic is where its at.<br><br>Now, TFC features many burly men shooting each other (the graphics, not the players). Playing under the image of a totally ripped guy with a chain gun creates the subconcious illusion that you may actually be as cool as he is (hint: you're not). Now, mankind has competed since the day that there were two men and one woman/source of food/shiny object/what have you. Combine the primal instinct of competition with the persona of a Heavy Weapons Guy, and you have a recipe for hostility. Now, as if shooting each other wasn't enough, players also feel the need to assault each other mentally with things like insults, quips, and half witted come-backs (although the sheer stupidity of the average TFC player is for more harmful to the mind than their insult is).<br><br>There is a certain satisfaction to killing someone in TFC. Facing off, shooting, slicing, general fighting. But surviving. THAT is the satisfaction. Knowing that you were equally matched in terms of equipment, and coming out on top. Besting your opponent. YOU are the superior being. You are the dominating force. You possess the greater skill. You are the master. You own them.<br><br>Of course, shooting and typing ain't easy. The "O" key is right beside the "P" key. Sometimes, you hit the P instead, resulting in "pwned". This common mistake has gradually become a legitimate comment. In fact, many regard this newer, perhaps "more evolved", phrase to be the advanced form of owned. The successor. The stronger. The superowned. The "owner of owned", if you will. <p>Robots. Ninjas. Girls. Fire.<br><br>The four most awesome things in the universe.</p><i></i>
