I think if you marry Ann, you will be allowed to go into the back room if you are not good friends with Doug. My reasoning to this is, I'm tring a game where I'm married to Popuri. Before I got married to her, I wasn't allowed to go to the upstairs of her house. When I got married to her, now I can go upstairs.

If you win a cooking festival, you might get let in.. I gave Doug like one or two things before the 2nd year cooking festival. That year, I won the festival and I could go into the backroom. I think it boosts both Doug and Ann's affection for you.
