I've been noticing that all the new harvest moon games that are coming out aren't featuring the Mineral Town cast as the villagers anymore , so does this mean that they won't be appearing in any more games anymore ?! ( visiting characters don't count ) Because then it would be a big change since they have been around since HarvestMoon64 . What do you think ?

i personally am glad that they are breaking away from the old characters. those characters were way overused, i think.
they took them out of the nice timeline and roles of 64 and stuck them in a totally diffrent place for BTN, and while it was an okay thought, the new roles did not fit their personalities (or what they had left of them, after they practically removed that feature after 64), and it just ruinined the characters. maybe one or two more games from the original timeline would have been good, then break off into newer things, but even that would require new characters, like how 64 takes place two generations after SNES, so that the girls are the granddaughters of the original girls. these characters wore thin well before FOMT came out, even, i think, and they held onto them for much too long.

i came in pretty late to the hm world (i started with mfomt) but i'm still gonna miss the mineral town crew. but considering how long the mineral town cast has been around, i think its about time to change up the characters. not that i like any of the new ones...but i think that's a sign i may be outgrowing hm within a few years...kinda like how too many new pokemon pretty much made me outgrow the pokemon world.
but they should reallie keep at least one staple character consistent throughout the games. the female character changes with every single game, but they should stick to the same male character. mark ought to be brunette. and he ought to be named jack.

i dont really mind if they wont ever show up again anymore,
ive seen them since HM64, then BTN, then BTNFG, then FOMT and MFOMT....
but theyre still show up in DS (even though only bachelors and bachelorettes...and Thomas....and Gotz.....) and okay, i wont mention them in Kimishima and Yasuragi
so for me, thats enough already, as i am getting bored easily
and BTN/BTNFG will be released for PSP soon, so thats already a good thing if you still want to see them
its not that i hate them, *cough*i still like doctor*cough*, but as for me, new game need new characters

I think they should make a game where you can visit every stinkin town. I guess you'd end up with clones like Alex (MM) and Doctor (FOMT) and so on. Or they could always mix people from each game.
Some of the Mineral Town cast seems to be reappearing like Karen, Cliff, Popuri, and Doctor in the island game.

Agree, new game need new characters.
Not that I hate the Mineral Town crew or anything . . .
OK, so actually I love them, but it's the characters that made the
game memorable and in order to made a new game be unique and
different from the others in the series they need new characters.
Not like what they did to HM64 and BTN (That's mess up the old image), or in MM (where they just made clones) but something completely new.
Not that's doing that is horrible or anything but they can't keep on doing that forever.
To me a new game is a new story, a new universe where you got to meet someone else. It's okay that's the characters' personalities are similar. Just need to see new faces.
If the old characters just keep popping up again and again the old games would lose their replay values. And somehow that's sadden me.
It's nice to dust off old games and replay it again every once in a while.

I like the new characters~ I think that the games really do need them to stay fresh and interesting. While it's fun to get to see old characters coming back, they really ought to be limited in how much they can come back. I mean, just playing three games straight where you marry the Doctor might be fun for a while, but I agree: it does limit the replay value.
I actually like what they're doing: new characters that look different and act different, but that you can see traces of former characters in (eg. Vaults and Gray). It makes things interesting and makes you feel like you kind of know the character beforehand, too.

I like the fact that they are starting to move away from the older characters. They just need to bring back the social aspect that made HM64 so captivating to play. In that game, the townspeople actually had problems in their lives that you could fix and doing so would affect the way the game played out. I agree that they totally ruined the cast when they altered their roles and relationships to one another in BTN.
